Yes, your choices matter in The Wolf Among Us—but mostly through character survival, investigation order, relationships, Bigby’s reputation, and the way the final judgment unfolds. The five-episode murder mystery still converges on many of the same major scenes, so no route creates a completely different case. The most consequential decisions include visiting Lawrence or Toad first, choosing whom to arrest, burning or preserving Greenleaf’s tree, killing or sparing Tweedle Dum, sending Colin to the Farm, and deciding the Crooked Man’s fate. This guide gives a spoiler-light answer first, then clearly marked full spoilers for every episode. It covers the original game’s documented choice and save systems and separates confirmed Remastered information from assumptions.
Do your choices matter in The Wolf Among Us?
They matter in several distinct ways, but not every dialogue option creates a new branch. Choices can change whether a character survives, which person Bigby interrogates, who appears in a later scene, how other Fables react to him, and whether he shows mercy or intimidation. Other decisions mainly alter tone, relationships, or the order in which evidence is presented.
The safest way to think about the game is as a branching presentation of a largely shared investigation. Some branches genuinely change a character’s presence or fate; others return to the same major plot event with different lines, reactions, or evidence order. A compassionate decision is not automatically the “correct” route, and a violent one does not reliably unlock a better clue.

- The original story has five episodes: Faith, Smoke and Mirrors, A Crooked Mile, In Sheep’s Clothing, and Cry Wolf.
- Choices are often cumulative. A decision in one episode may change a later character’s presence or a line at the final gathering rather than immediately redirecting the plot.
- There is no complete route that avoids every tragedy. Several characters are already in danger or fatally injured when Bigby receives a choice.
- Do not treat player-reported routes as universal guarantees. The exact result can depend on what you do during the scene, not simply which location or menu option you select.
If you want to preserve a first playthrough, stop at the spoiler warning below. The short version is: make the choices that fit the Bigby you want to play, keep a separate save before experimenting, and do not expect every minor line to produce a lasting branch.

How does the original game save and record choices?
The original game includes a Player Choices menu that reviews major decisions. Its manual also explains that some dialogue is timed and that choosing not to answer is itself an option. As the manual puts it: What you choose to say—or NOT say—could have a dramatic effect on your story.
Checkpoint rewinds let you revisit an earlier point, but the manual warns that progress after the rewind point is lost if the save is overwritten. Use a separate save slot before testing an alternate route. If you start a later episode without completing the earlier episodes, the game generates random decisions for the skipped content; it will not reconstruct your personal history from memory.
These systems are documented for the original release. The Remastered edition may present menus differently, so do not assume that a menu label, save behavior, or rewind interface is identical without checking the edition you own.
Full spoilers: which decisions change the story?
The sections below discuss the complete original five-episode story. They distinguish dependable consequences from outcomes that are often overstated in online guides.
Episode 1 — Faith: should you visit Lawrence or Toad first?
Visit either location first if you are following your own investigative instinct, but the order can affect Lawrence’s survival. Both the Lawrence and Toad locations are investigated; choosing one first does not permanently lock you out of the other.
Reports from players who go to Lawrence first describe preventing his death, but the first click alone is not a guarantee independent of what Bigby does in that scene. Treat it as an order-and-action sequence rather than a simple “correct answer.” If keeping Lawrence alive is your priority, going to his location first gives you the opportunity associated with that outcome.
After the pursuit, Bigby can arrest the Woodsman or Tweedle Dee. This is a real change, because the person arrested determines whom Bigby interrogates next. It does not determine the eventual identity of the killers; the central investigation converges.

Episode 2 — Smoke and Mirrors: does the interrogation choice change the culprit?
The interrogation target reflects your Episode 1 arrest, while the interrogation style changes Bigby’s conduct and relationships rather than revealing a different murderer. The Woodsman and Tweedle Dee routes supply different scenes and responses, but neither route produces a separate culprit.
You can question the suspect with restraint or intimidation. The violent approach communicates that Bigby is willing to use force; the restrained approach supports a more procedural or merciful characterization. Do not assume brutality automatically produces better evidence or unlocks a hidden solution.
Recorded major choices in this episode also include whether Snow accompanies Bigby, whether he damages Georgie’s club, and whether he strikes or spares Beast. These decisions can influence how characters regard him and how later scenes feel. They are examples of the game’s convergent design: different conduct inside the same broad investigation.

If you are replaying to see every variation, change one decision at a time and note the interrogation target, the dialogue tone, and any later callback separately. That prevents you from attributing a later difference to the wrong choice.
Episode 3 — A Crooked Mile: should you burn Greenleaf’s tree?
Burning or preserving Aunty Greenleaf’s tree is a meaningful mercy-versus-enforcement decision, but it does not rewrite the entire case. The episode also asks you to choose the order of leads and to decide whether Tweedle Dum lives.
The tree decision expresses what Bigby believes the law should protect. Greenleaf’s treatment can be raised at the final gathering, so the choice has a documented later callback beyond the immediate scene. Calling one option universally lawful or moral oversimplifies the conflict between Snow’s responsibilities and Bigby’s judgment.
The decision to kill or spare Tweedle Dum is a clearer survival branch. Dum’s presence in Episode 5 depends on what you decide here. If you spare him, he can appear later; if you kill him, that later presence is absent. This is a stronger, more concrete consequence than a small variation in dialogue.
The order in which you pursue leads changes what Bigby sees first and how the investigation is paced. It should not be described as removing an entire location or proving that one route is the only valid solution.

Episode 4 — In Sheep’s Clothing: should Colin go to the Farm?
Sending Colin to the Farm is a relationship and safety decision whose effects appear later; it is not simply a moral score. The episode also includes the ribbon decision, the butcher-shop or Lucky Pawn lead order, and choices about helping Toad.
Bigby can decide whether Colin remains in Fabletown or is sent to the Farm. A later Farm scene involves Toad and TJ and can conditionally involve Colin, so the decision changes who is present and how the scene plays. The game does not support promising that one earlier action guarantees a complete reversal of every later Farm outcome.
Bigby can reach for Nerissa’s ribbon. The moment is important for the story’s tension and for how you interpret Bigby’s conduct, but avoid claiming an unsupported mechanical effect beyond the scenes and reactions the game actually presents.
You can visit the Cut Above butcher shop or Lucky Pawn first. This is another order-of-leads choice: both investigative threads remain part of the episode. Choosing one first does not prove that the other location vanishes.
Treatment of Toad, including whether Bigby gives him money, affects the relationship and later context. Money alone should not be advertised as a guaranteed way to reverse every decision about the Farm or Toad’s family.
Episode 5 — Cry Wolf: what changes in the finale?
The finale contains the game’s clearest judgment branch: Bigby can kill the Crooked Man or bring him back alive for the community confrontation. Earlier choices influence reactions and who is available, but the central revelations still occur.
Georgie is revealed as the direct killer of Faith and Lily. The Crooked Man’s responsibility is contested within the story, and his fate is resolved through testimony and judgment rather than a simple discovery that he personally carried out every killing.

Bigby can kill the Crooked Man or bring him back alive. Bringing him back permits him to participate in the confrontation with the community. If the Crooked Man is captured alive, the subsequent disposition is a separate matter: players report distinct punishments, including imprisonment or the Witching Well. Keep the capture decision separate from the later punishment when comparing routes.
Earlier mercy, violence, and treatment of characters shape the atmosphere of the gathering and the reactions Bigby receives. A route that feels more humane is not necessarily rewarded with a different explanation of the murders; the game is testing reputation, trust, and judgment as much as detective logic.
“Go after her” or “let her go”: does the final choice solve the mystery?
No. The final prompt, “[Go After Her]” or “[Let Her Go],” does not conclusively solve the Faith/Nerissa identity puzzle. Going after the departing woman can provide an additional closing exchange and a different emotional emphasis, while letting her go ends the pursuit immediately.

Which choices have the most dependable consequences?
| Decision | What reliably changes | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Lawrence or Toad first | Investigation order; the opportunity associated with Lawrence’s survival | The first location permanently removes the other, or guarantees an outcome regardless of your actions |
| Woodsman or Tweedle Dee arrested | The next interrogation target and its dialogue | The arrest identifies a different killer |
| Burn or preserve Greenleaf’s tree | Bigby’s stance toward Greenleaf and a later final-gathering callback | One option is an objectively universal “good” route |
| Kill or spare Tweedle Dum | Whether Dum can be present in Episode 5 | A completely different finale |
| Send Colin to the Farm | Later character presence and relationship context | Money or one conversation reverses every Farm consequence |
| Kill or return the Crooked Man | Whether he participates in the community confrontation and the judgment path | Capture and final punishment are the same decision |
| Go after her or let her go | The closing pursuit and final exchange | A definitive answer to Faith and Nerissa’s identities |
How should you choose: survival, evidence, reputation, or mercy?
Use four questions when a decision appears:
- Does someone’s immediate survival depend on my next action? This is the most concrete consequence and should take priority if you are trying to keep a character alive.
- Am I changing evidence order or the evidence itself? Many choices change which scene comes first without removing the underlying lead.
- Will this character appear later? Dum’s survival and Colin’s Farm decision are examples where presence matters more than a single line.
- What kind of sheriff is Bigby becoming? Mercy, due process, intimidation, and violence affect relationships and community reactions even when the case converges.
This framework is more useful than labeling every compassionate choice “right.” The game often presents competing responsibilities, and the consequences are social and narrative as well as logistical.

Remastered is a current digital release as of October 30, 2026; physical editions are planned for early 2027, and Nintendo Switch versions are to follow later. The October 29, 2026 launch information describes the same five-episode story with Noir Mode, improved presentation, and supplemental material.
Publisher-reported bonus content includes five playable deleted scenes, more than 100 gallery artworks, and over an hour of developer interviews. Those are Remastered features, not counts of alternate endings or statistics showing how often players choose a route.
Do not assume that deleted scenes rewrite a specific original-game branch. The release information confirms the content exists, but it does not establish a new consequence for Lawrence, Greenleaf, Dum, Colin, the Crooked Man, or the final identity puzzle. Likewise, claims about Remastered menu labels should be checked against the edition rather than copied from the original manual.

Will my choices carry into The Wolf Among Us 2?
Telltale has announced that signed-in Telltale Account players will be able to carry “defining choices” made in Remastered into The Wolf Among Us 2, while newcomers can establish past choices when starting the sequel. The sequel is announced for 2027.
No exhaustive import list has been published. That means you should not assume every minor dialogue selection, every timed non-answer, or every exact punishment transfers, and you cannot yet describe the sequel’s consequences as if they have been played. The safest conclusion is that major history will be represented in some form, while the precise list and payoff remain unspecified.
How do you replay alternate routes safely?
- Finish the current scene before judging a consequence. Some callbacks appear an episode later or at the final gathering.
- Keep a separate save before a major decision. A checkpoint rewind can discard progress made after the rewind point if you overwrite the save.
- Change one variable at a time. For example, compare Lawrence-first and Toad-first while keeping your actions in both scenes consistent.
- Record presence separately from dialogue. Note whether a character survives or appears; do not treat every changed sentence as a new branch.
- Do not rely on skipped-episode continuity. Starting later without completed earlier episodes creates random decisions for the skipped content.
This method lets you compare genuine consequences without mistaking a different investigation order or performance variation for an entirely new ending.

There is no evidence-based universal “best” ending. The Crooked Man’s fate, Georgie’s final treatment, Greenleaf’s tree, Colin’s Farm decision, and the final pursuit all reflect different priorities: public safety, mercy, law, loyalty, or closure.
If you want the broadest set of later character appearances, prioritize survival decisions such as Lawrence and Tweedle Dum, then accept that preserving everyone is not always possible. If you want a restrained Bigby, use the interrogation, Beast, Georgie, and Crooked Man choices to avoid unnecessary violence. If you want to test the game’s harshest route, make a separate save first so the experiment does not replace your main history.
Optional companion reading: where does the story come from?
The Wolf Among Us is based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comics and is set before the comics’ first issue. Reading the graphic novels can add context for the characters and setting, but they are not a complete canonical answer key to the game’s closing Faith/Nerissa mystery. The game’s own final ambiguity remains deliberate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change a decision without replaying the whole game?
Use a checkpoint rewind when the option is available, but remember that progress after the rewind point can be lost if you overwrite the save. A separate save is safer when comparing routes.
Does Remastered add new endings?
The announced Remastered features include Noir Mode, presentation improvements, five deleted scenes, gallery artwork, and developer interviews. The release information does not confirm new alternate endings or a rewritten identity reveal.
Are there really multiple endings to the murder mystery?
The finale has meaningful judgment and closing-pursuit variations, especially around the Crooked Man and the departing woman. The main investigation still converges, so these are not wholly separate mysteries with unrelated culprits.
Which choices will import into The Wolf Among Us 2?
Telltale says signed-in players can carry defining choices from Remastered and that newcomers can set past choices. It has not published an exhaustive list, so minor dialogue and every punishment outcome should not be assumed to transfer.
Is Faith definitely Nerissa at the end?
The closing line deliberately supports more than one interpretation. Going after the departing woman does not provide an officially confirmed solution to the disguise and identity question.
