The free Elder-focused content is part of The Sims 4 update EA announced for October 27, 2026—not a separately purchased pack. If the new items are missing, first confirm the game finished updating, then clear the EA app cache and repair the installation (or verify files in Steam). If that does not work, test without mods and custom content. Back up your Sims 4 user folder before resetting it; repair and reset address different problems, and neither should be treated as a way to recover deleted saves or mods.
What is included in the Elder update?
EA’s October 27, 2026 announcement describes a free update for The Sims 4. It lists two hairstyles for Adults and Elders, four clothing items, five clothing recolors, four Styled Looks, and 11 Build/Buy items. EA presents these as update content, not a separately purchased pack.
The categories matter when you check whether the items are present. Hairstyles, clothing, recolors, and Styled Looks belong in Create-a-Sim; the 11 objects belong in Build/Buy. Finding one group does not establish that every item in the other group loaded correctly. Check both parts of the game rather than assuming that a missing chair, hairstyle, or outfit means the entire update failed.

What should I check before repairing the game?
Confirm that the October 27 update has actually finished installing, then restart the game and launcher before changing files. EA’s news index lists the Elder update among the October 27, 2026 Sims 4 updates, but an older or incomplete game build may not show the new content.
- Close The Sims 4 and exit the launcher fully.
- Reopen the launcher and check the game’s status in your library. Let any update or download finish before launching.
- Start the game and check the relevant Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy categories.
- Look for both age-appropriate CAS content and the new Build/Buy objects; checking only one category can give a misleading result.
- If the content is still absent, continue with the repair path for the platform where the game is installed.
This first check avoids treating an update that has not completed as a damaged installation. Menu labels can change as launchers are updated, so use the current equivalent if a label differs slightly. Do not start by deleting folders or reinstalling random files while the launcher is still downloading.
How do I repair The Sims 4 in the EA app?
Clear the EA app cache first, then use the game’s Manage menu to run Repair. EA-hosted troubleshooting recommends this sequence; repair checks installed game files and is intended to replace files that are missing or corrupted.
- Open the EA app menu and choose the option to clear the app cache. Follow the app’s prompts, then reopen it if requested.
- Open Library and select The Sims 4.
- Choose Manage > Repair. Wait for the process to finish before starting the game.
- Launch the game and check Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy again.
Keep the launcher open until the repair has completed. Interrupting a file check or starting the game while the app is still working can leave you unsure whether the operation finished. If the EA app offers a restart after clearing its cache, allow that restart before selecting Repair.
Repair works on the installed game, not on the separate user content stored in the Sims 4 user folder. It will not recreate a deleted mod, custom-content item, save, or Gallery download. If the game files are intact but a user file is broken or absent, the next steps are diagnosis rather than another repair. Running Repair repeatedly without testing the user folder will not recover a missing custom item.
How do I verify the files in Steam?
For a Steam installation, verify the integrity of the game files from the Steam library. This is the Steam equivalent of checking installed program files; it does not restore deleted user-created content.
- Open the Steam Library and right-click The Sims 4.
- Choose Properties, then Local files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and let Steam complete the check.
- Launch the game and check the item categories again.
Steam’s menu wording may change over time. If the labels differ, look in the game’s Properties for the local-file verification option rather than deleting game or user folders. Use the launcher that actually manages your installation: verifying in Steam does not diagnose a separate EA app installation, and an EA app repair is not a substitute for Steam’s local-file check when Steam owns the files.

Repair, mod testing, or a folder reset: which step is right?
These actions have different scopes and risks. Choosing the least disruptive test first makes it easier to identify the cause.
| Action | What it checks | Risk and diagnostic value |
|---|---|---|
| Clear EA app cache | Launcher cache and temporary app data | Lower-risk maintenance step; it does not remove saves or mods. |
| EA app Repair or Steam file verification | Installed program files | Lower-risk check for missing or corrupted game files; it does not restore user-created content. |
| Move the Mods folder | Whether outdated or incompatible mods or custom content interfere | Reversible if you keep the folder; test value is high because official files are checked without third-party additions. |
| Reset the user folder | Whether saves or downloaded user data cause the problem | Requires a complete backup; a clean-folder test separates user-data issues from installation issues. |
Repair addresses the installed program. A reset changes which user data the game reads. Neither action is a general recovery tool. Keeping that distinction clear prevents a player from expecting Repair to bring back a deleted save or a creator’s custom-content file.
Could mods or custom content be hiding the new items?
Yes. EA’s troubleshooting guidance says outdated or incompatible mods and custom content can cause missing or damaged game-data errors, and recommends testing after removing the Mods folder. Move that folder to a safe temporary location instead of deleting it.
- Close the game.
- Move the
Modsfolder out of the active Sims 4 user folder, such as to a clearly named temporary folder elsewhere on your computer. - Launch the game and check whether the official Elder content appears in both CAS and Build/Buy.
- If the content appears, close the game and add your mods or custom content back in a controlled way, testing between additions to identify a conflicting file.
Keep the moved folder as a backup while diagnosing. Do not overwrite it with a newly generated folder or assume that repair will restore its contents. A mod or custom-content item that was deleted or is incompatible must be recovered from its creator or from your own backup.
If the Elder items remain missing with the Mods folder out, that result does not prove the installation is damaged; continue through the clean-folder test before drawing a conclusion. If they appear only after the folder is moved, add content back gradually rather than returning the entire folder at once. The gradual approach identifies a conflict and avoids losing track of which addition changed the result.
How do I reset the Sims 4 user folder safely?
A clean-folder test can show whether the problem is in user data or in the game installation. Back up the entire Sims 4 folder before moving it; EA’s reset guide instructs players to make this backup first.
- Close the game and launcher.
- Locate
Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4and copy the wholeThe Sims 4folder to a safe backup location. Confirm the copy exists before proceeding. - Move the original folder out of
Documents/Electronic Arts. Do not delete it. - Launch the game. It should create a fresh Sims 4 user folder. Check whether the game runs normally and whether the Elder items appear.
- Close the game before restoring anything. Keep the clean folder available for comparison while you work with the backup.
The reset temporarily changes which user data the game reads; it does not erase the backup when you follow the copy-first process. EA’s guidance says that if the game runs normally after the reset, the cause is in the previous saves or downloaded content. If it still does not run normally, EA says those files were not the cause, and the backup can be restored.

Do not skip the backup because the problem appears to concern only new clothing or furniture. The user folder contains more than saves: it can also contain Mods, Tray content, Gallery downloads, and other downloaded data. Moving the entire folder gives you a clean comparison while preserving the original for selective recovery.

How should I restore saves and other files?
Restore selectively instead of putting the entire old folder back at once. EA recommends copying folders or individual saves back incrementally and testing after each addition; this makes it easier to identify the file or group that brings the problem back.
- Keep the original backup untouched.
- Copy one folder or one save from the backup into the new user folder, then launch the game and check for the issue.
- Repeat with the next item only after the game behaves as expected.
- Where an old and newly generated version of a file conflict, EA-hosted troubleshooting recommends preferring the file generated by the new folder.
Use the same controlled approach for downloaded content and Mods. Restore a small, identifiable group, test, close the game, and continue only when the result is stable. This process can narrow the cause to a save, mod, or downloaded file without reintroducing every piece of user data at once. If a specific save triggers the problem, keep it isolated rather than replacing your only backup.
Remember that a save or Gallery download is not the same thing as the official Elder update. A clean-folder test can show that user data is involved, but it cannot recreate a deleted user file. Recover missing custom content from its creator or your own backup, and retain the untouched backup until the diagnosis is complete.
What if the launcher says content is installed but it is still missing?
Check that the launcher and the game are using the same installation location before moving or removing folders. EA-hosted guidance identifies duplicate Sims 4 folders, a CAS Demo folder, and content installed in the wrong program directory as possible causes when content is marked installed but unavailable in-game.
- In the EA app, open The Sims 4 and go to Manage > View properties.
- Check the installation path shown there and compare it with the folder you are inspecting. Make sure you have identified the active game installation, not an older or duplicate folder.
- If the path points to a different location than expected, resolve which folder the launcher uses before changing any files.
- Once the active location is clear, clear the EA app cache and repair the installation again.
Do not delete a duplicate-looking folder simply because its name seems redundant. The launcher’s reported path is the useful reference for identifying the installation; removing the wrong folder can make diagnosis harder. A CAS Demo folder can also be mistaken for the live game’s directory, so compare the complete path instead of relying on a familiar folder name.
If the launcher reports the game as installed but a fresh user-folder test still cannot see the Elder items, record that result. It tells support that the problem survives removal of downloaded user data and may involve the active installation or launcher state.

What can and cannot restore the Elder items?
Cache clearing, Repair, and Steam verification can address launcher or installed-file problems. They cannot restore a deleted mod, custom-content item, save, Tray file, or Gallery download. Those user-created or downloaded files must come from the original creator, a legitimate download, or your own backup.
The official Elder hairstyles, clothing, recolors, Styled Looks, and Build/Buy objects are part of the free base-game update. They should be diagnosed as game content first. Mods and custom content can mask or disrupt loading, but they are not the source from which the official items are recovered. Keeping the two categories separate helps you choose the right remedy and prevents accidental deletion of valuable user files.

When should I contact EA support?
Escalate if the update is complete and the issue remains after repair, a mod-free check, and—if needed—a backed-up clean-folder test. EA’s support hub covers troubleshooting for updates, mods, error codes, backup and reset, downloads, and platform-specific issues.
When contacting support, include the platform and launcher, whether the update completed, whether the launcher reports the game content as installed, and whether the game works with a clean user folder. Also describe which categories are missing: CAS items, Styled Looks, Build/Buy objects, or all of them. These details help distinguish a game-file problem from a user-folder or installation-location problem.
Keep the backup and any moved Mods folder available while the case is open. Use the official EA support route for the relevant platform rather than deleting files or reinstalling folders without confirming which installation is active. If you use Steam, state that clearly and report the result of Steam’s local-file verification; if you use the EA app, report the cache-clear and Repair results.

For most players, the least disruptive sequence is:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm the October 27, 2026 update finished and restart the launcher and game.
- Check both Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy for the listed Elder content.
- Clear the EA app cache and run Manage > Repair, or verify local files in Steam.
- Move the Mods folder and test with no mods or custom content.
- Back up the complete Sims 4 user folder.
- Run a clean-folder test by moving the original folder aside.
- Restore saves and downloaded folders one at a time, testing after each addition.
- Check the launcher’s installation path if it says content is installed but the game cannot see it.
- Contact EA support with the platform, launcher, update, installation, and clean-folder results.
This order starts with lower-risk maintenance and reserves the disruptive steps for cases that need stronger diagnosis. At every stage, keep copies of user data and avoid deleting a folder until you know whether it is the active installation or your only backup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to download an Elder pack separately?
No separate Elder pack is described in EA’s October 27, 2026 announcement; the items are presented as part of a free game update. Make sure the game itself has completed that update before looking for the items.
How many free Elder items should I expect?
EA lists two hairstyles for Adults and Elders, four clothing items, five clothing recolors, four Styled Looks, and 11 Build/Buy items.
Will repairing The Sims 4 delete my saves or mods?
Repair checks installed game files and is not intended to remove or recreate user-folder content. It will not restore a deleted save, mod, custom-content item, or Gallery download. Keep a backup before any broader folder changes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Will resetting The Sims 4 delete my saves?
A reset makes the game start with a newly generated user folder, so the old saves will not be in that active folder during the test. Copy the whole folder somewhere safe first, and keep that untouched backup until you have confirmed which files you want to restore.
Why test without mods if the update is official?
EA says outdated or incompatible mods and custom content can cause missing or damaged game-data errors. Moving the Mods folder temporarily lets you test the official game content without deleting your third-party files.
What if the EA app says the game is installed but the Elder items are absent?
Check Manage > View properties for the active installation path. Duplicate Sims 4 folders, a CAS Demo folder, or content installed in another program directory can make the launcher and the folder you are checking disagree. Confirm the path before moving or deleting anything, then clear the cache and repair again.
How should I restore files after a clean-folder test?
Keep the original backup untouched and copy one folder or individual save into the new user folder at a time. Test after each addition, and prefer files generated by the new folder when old and new versions conflict.
What information should I give EA support if the items are still missing?
Include your platform and launcher, the update status, whether the launcher reports the content as installed, which CAS or Build/Buy categories are missing, and whether the game behaves normally with a clean user folder. Those details help support separate an installation issue from a problem in saves or downloaded content.
The Bottom Line
The Elder hairstyles, clothing, Styled Looks, recolors, and Build/Buy objects are free content from the October 27, 2026 The Sims 4 update. Confirm the update, clear the EA app cache, repair or verify files, and test without Mods before making deeper changes. If you reset the user folder, back it up first and restore files incrementally; never expect Repair to recover deleted saves or custom content.
