As of November 2026, the free demo of The Regreening has no documented in-game FPS cap, graphics presets, or resolution and VSync controls. The official Steam pages publish minimum PC requirements but no recommended specification or target frame rate. If the demo is making your GPU run hot, there is no confirmed in-game setting to turn down; you can check that your PC meets the minimum, report the issue, and consider an unverified frame-rate cap in your graphics driver while waiting for an update.
What performance settings are actually available?
There is no published graphics-options guide or confirmed list of performance controls for the current demo. In particular, the available information does not document a resolution selector, fullscreen or windowed mode, VSync, an FPS limit, anti-aliasing, shadow or foliage controls, view distance, post-processing, or Low/Medium/High/Ultra presets. That means there is no reliable “best settings” combination to recommend, and no basis for promising a particular FPS improvement.
Some other settings and features are documented, but they are not graphics controls. The developers announced sound-level adjustments in an August 2026 playtest update. The demo also has a Report a Bug control in its Main Menu and Pause Menu, and a Quest Journal option for disabling Grandma Laima’s helpful tips. Those can change audio or interface behavior; they do not provide a documented way to reduce GPU load.

The strongest public sign that players want graphics controls is a Steam discussion opened by ThymeWellTill on 24 October 2026. The player wrote: “The game looks and feels amazing, sadly it makes my graphiccard work too hard, so it gets too hot…. Will there be FPS and other graphic options in the game?” The thread had no comments at the time it was recorded, so it establishes a reported concern—not a confirmed cause, widespread failure, or developer promise to add a cap.

There is also a positive but anecdotal counterpoint: a Steam community player named carmen said, “I love the Demo though ~ very smooth and a really nice world and vibe”. One person’s impression does not establish how the game performs on other PCs. No publisher, lab, or reviewer has published an FPS benchmark, frame-time study, or recommended-spec table for the title.
What PC does the official minimum requirement describe?
The Steam store pages for the full game and demo give the same Windows minimum. Treat these as the published floor, not as a guarantee of smooth play at a particular resolution or frame rate: the store does not state a performance target or explain which graphics settings the minimum supports.

The AMD card’s memory is listed as 3 GB on Steam; a secondary listing gives a conflicting 2 GB figure. The official store is the better reference for the requirement. The same store block specifies Windows 10, while the recorded supported-system information and demo executable are Windows-focused; do not read the minimum as a published promise of native Mac or Linux support. Windows 11 compatibility is not separately stated in the listed minimum.
There is no published recommended-spec row to compare with the minimum. The processor floor is an older, relatively specific CPU requirement alongside a GTX 760-era graphics floor, but that alone cannot tell you whether a newer low-power laptop, integrated graphics system, or a PC with a faster GPU and weaker CPU will run smoothly. A CPU-related bottleneck is plausible for a simulation with habitat and tile management, but it has not been measured for this game.

The store asks for 2 GB of available storage. SteamDB lists the demo depot as 419.44 MiB to download and 1.64 GiB on disk. Those figures describe the current demo footprint, not a replacement for the full game’s official storage requirement; leave enough free space for the install and any updates.
What should you do if the demo makes your GPU hot?
First separate an in-game performance problem from a thermal warning. A fan becoming audible or a GPU drawing more power is not, by itself, a temperature reading. If the computer reports a temperature warning, shuts down, or behaves abnormally, stop playing and follow the PC or graphics-card maker’s guidance rather than trying to solve a hardware cooling problem with unverified game tweaks.
- Check the published floor. Compare your Windows version, processor, RAM, and graphics card with the minimum table above. Being above the listed hardware floor still does not guarantee a particular FPS because no target or benchmark has been published.
- Try the free demo before buying. The demo is the playable build available ahead of the scheduled 7 December 2026 full-game release. SteamDB’s recorded demo size is 419.44 MiB downloaded and 1.64 GiB installed. A short session on your own PC can help you decide whether the current build is acceptable for your setup, without treating that experience as a performance benchmark for other systems.
- Look for a patch note before assuming a control exists. Check the demo’s Steam news and current in-game menus for newly added options. The developers have not published a graphics-options guide, and the documented audio adjustments should not be mistaken for an FPS limiter.
- Send a report through the game. Use Report a Bug from the Main Menu or Pause Menu and describe your PC hardware, when the heat or slowdown occurs, and what you observed. The developers said the report control links to a form the team checks. You can also use the game’s community channels, but do not assume a report means a fix or feature is scheduled.
- If needed, consider a driver-level frame cap. NVIDIA Control Panel and AMD Adrenalin are examples of vendor tools that commonly offer frame-rate controls. Applying a cap to the game executable is general Windows/driver practice, not a setting verified for The Regreening; the available data does not establish a tested profile or a specific FPS value. Treat it as an optional experiment, not an official fix.
- Reduce avoidable background load. Closing demanding overlays or other heavy applications is ordinary PC housekeeping that may help a system already under strain. It has not been measured as a fix for this demo, and it cannot substitute for a game-level limiter if the game is rendering more frames than your system can comfortably handle.
Do not paste Unreal Engine Engine.ini tweaks or r.* console variables from guides for unrelated games. SteamDB identifies The Regreening as a Unity title using Unity URP, not Unreal Engine. A tweak written for another engine or another game may do nothing or cause problems.

What do the updates and engine information tell us?
The developers have acknowledged optimization work during playtesting, but that is not the same as shipping user-adjustable graphics options or reporting a performance result. In its 20 July 2026 Playtest #4 news, the team listed water and lighting improvements, new visual effects, and “Bug fixes and optimization.” A 19 August thank-you post mentioned “More settings and quality-of-life improvements, like sound level adjustments and an improved tutorial.” Neither post is a graphics-options guide, and neither names an FPS cap or graphics preset.

That playtest feedback came from a substantial group, but it should not be confused with a controlled hardware test. Positive Impact Games reported 7,300 playtesters across four playtests in 2026. The reported average playtest session was about 1 hour 15 minutes; more than 600 players spent over three hours, and some played for more than 16 hours. The developers also said they fixed more than 50 bugs based on reports. Those figures show sustained player participation and iteration, not frame rates or thermal measurements.
SteamDB detects Unity Engine, Unity URP, Unity Burst, DirectStorage, FMOD, and Mono in the demo. It identifies the executable as regreening-release/TheRegreening.exe. These are useful technical clues, but they do not reveal the game’s current graphics-menu options or establish a performance benefit. In particular, the presence of DirectStorage is not a published loading-time measurement or proof of faster performance on a particular PC.
The simulation’s design helps explain why players may care about performance, but it does not answer the settings question. The Regreening is a single-player cozy simulation about restoring a deserted world: planting biomes, recycling junk into tools and decorations, befriending spirits inspired by Baltic folklore, and bringing wildlife back. PC Gamer’s Lauren Morton described the Steam Next Fest demo as almost as much a small city-builder as a farm sim, with overlapping tile-based habitat management. Creative Director Manny Hachey told PC Gamer: “We removed the currency and exploitative loops of planting and harvesting for profit.” He also said: “In The Regreening, you’re not planting nature to take its resources and sell them. You’re planting because that tree might improve the soil, provide shelter for an animal, help retain water, or become part of a larger biome spread.” This context may help set expectations for a simulation, but it is not evidence of a particular CPU or GPU load.
Is controller support a way to make gameplay smoother?
Controller support and frame-rate performance are separate issues. The first phase of controller support was announced in July 2026, but October demo players still described trouble using a pad or changing controls. If the concern is whether the game feels playable with your preferred input method, do not treat a controller tag or an early support announcement as proof that the current demo has complete, comfortable controller support.

In its 20 July Playtest #4 post, the team said: “We’ve also added the first phase of controller support, improved trash rewards, introduced auto-save, and made plenty of quality-of-life improvements based on your feedback (thank you so much for it!)” The post described key remapping as a possible future feature, not a confirmed control available in the demo. In October, LNXlady wrote, “I can’t even try the game without it.” SarahHeretic said the demo was “impossible on a controller”. These are player reports rather than an official compatibility assessment, but they show why “supports controller” may not answer whether the controls work for a particular player.
There is also a save-state caveat. The July playtest post said the game would automatically save whenever a player ended the day at the Campfire, and SteamDB categorizes the demo as “Save Anytime.” However, a player reported “no autosave” and lost progress on 22 October 2026. Because those details conflict, do not rely on auto-save as a guaranteed recovery method in the live demo; save manually where the game allows it and check current patch notes for the behavior in your build.

The demo is the practical option if you want to check compatibility on your own PC before the full game’s scheduled 7 December 2026 release. That date is listed by the Steam store and developer news. Graphics settings, controller support, recommended specifications, and save behavior may change before or at launch, so verify the current store requirements and patch notes close to the date rather than assuming a feature is planned.
For context, Positive Impact Games said it had been developing the game for 2.5 years as of 21 October 2026. The studio was founded in Hamburg in 2024 by five industry veterans, and its site describes a team of six. The demo launched on 1 October 2026 after a move from the previously announced 21 September date. The Steam store showed 91% of 57 demo reviews as Very Positive in 2026; that small review sample is a sentiment snapshot, not a hardware-compatibility rating or a performance test.

The launch attracted attention: Positive Impact Games reported more than 50,000 wishlists at demo launch, and Pirate PR’s 30 September-dated release, published 1 October, reported more than 55,000. Those are different publisher-reported figures from different points around launch, not evidence that the game has been optimized for every PC. The relevant decision for a performance-sensitive player remains whether the current demo runs acceptably on their own system and whether the controls and options they need are actually present.
