Online play is confirmed for The Duskbloods, but cross-play is not. FromSoftware describes an online-focused PvPvE game for up to eight players, while the official game site currently lists only Nintendo Switch 2. Cooperation exists in several forms—temporary alliances, help against a shared boss or trespasser, and a test-mode pairing rule that can let two players share a victory—but that is not the same as an always-cooperative campaign. A release-version matchmaking plan would let you enter a blood pact with an invited friend, yet the final implementation has not been demonstrated. The release window is now 2027, after FromSoftware moved it from 2026 on October 29, 2026.
Is The Duskbloods cross-play?
There is no announced cross-play support. Cross-play means players on different hardware platforms—such as Switch 2, PC, PlayStation or Xbox—can enter the same match. The official game site currently identifies Nintendo Switch 2 as the only announced platform, so there is no documented way for players on another system to join a Switch 2 match.
That is a statement about what has been announced, not proof that a future port or cross-platform matchmaking is impossible. Until FromSoftware or Nintendo names another platform and explicitly says that its players can match with Switch 2 users, treat cross-play as unconfirmed. An eight-player online specification does not change that: it describes the size of a match, not the number of hardware ecosystems connected to it.

What a standard alliance means
The network-test guide states that standard alliances are disbanded in the final phase. That makes them tactical cooperation during the earlier parts of a match, not a promise that two players remain teammates when the endgame begins. You can therefore help another participant and later face the consequences of the match’s final competition.
How Bloodbound Alliances differ
Bloodbound Alliances are a separate matchmaking rule. In the test version, the pair remains linked from the opening phase to the conclusion and can win together. Because this was documented as test behavior, do not assume the same pairing duration, rewards or victory conditions will ship unchanged.
Where boss and trespasser cooperation fits
Nintendo’s interview with Miyazaki describes special victory conditions that may require teaming up to defeat a boss. The test guide separately describes answering a call to fight a trespasser. Both are examples of cooperation against a shared threat; neither turns every match into a conventional four- or eight-player cooperative mission.

No. FromSoftware’s 2025 overview specifies up to eight online players for an online-focused PvPvE action game. “Up to eight” is a player-capacity limit: those participants may include rivals as well as people temporarily cooperating against game-controlled enemies.
The 2026 network-test guide gives a more specific test structure: eight entrants move through four phases, and three survivors enter the final phase. Those numbers describe the test version, not a permanent launch format. They also show why “eight-player online” should not be rewritten as “an eight-person co-op squad.”

The PvPvE design can make cooperation instrumental. Two players might work together to overcome an enemy or event, then compete for the match’s final outcome. Whether a given encounter demands collaboration, permits it or rewards it depends on the rule set in effect.
Can I play with an invited friend?
There is a planned route for doing so, but it is not yet a launch-proven feature. The official network-test guide says the release version plans matchmaking that enters a blood pact with an invited friend. That is stronger than a generic hope for private groups, yet the wording leaves the final user interface, restrictions and timing unspecified.
In the test’s Bloodbound Alliances rule, paired players could remain together through the final phase and share a win. Keep that documented test behavior separate from the release-version invitation plan: one describes how the test pairing worked, while the other describes what the developers intend to provide at release.
An invitation also should not be confused with the Destined Companion role. That role rewards creating a bond with a designated player, but the interview does not say it provides a permanent friend slot, a campaign partner or unrestricted invitations.
What platform and release information is official?
Nintendo Switch 2 is the only platform currently announced on the official game site. No PC, PlayStation or Xbox version—and no cross-platform matchmaking—has been announced. Avoid treating unlisted platforms as cancelled; they are simply not confirmed.

FromSoftware changed the release window from 2026 to 2027 in an announcement dated October 29, 2026, saying it needed more time for game-rule and balance adjustments after the August network test. The latest notice does not provide a day or month. Older developer material and older articles that still say 2026 are out of date; the current window is the one to use.

For U.S. online features, Nintendo’s game interviews specify three requirements: a Nintendo Switch Online membership, a Nintendo Account and an internet connection. Nintendo’s terms and regional availability can change, so check the service details for your country when the game approaches launch.
The membership requirement applies to online functionality; it does not establish whether an offline or local mode exists. No local split-screen or fully offline mode has been announced in the official material currently available.
How should I prepare for online matches?
You do not need special networking hardware according to the published guidance, but a stable connection matters. During the test, FromSoftware suggested reliable wireless access or a wired connection while the console was docked when communication was unstable. A wired accessory is therefore an optional troubleshooting measure, not a stated requirement.
- Confirm that your Nintendo Account is linked to the Switch 2 profile you will use.
- Check that your Nintendo Switch Online membership is active in your region before attempting online matchmaking.

The best places to check for those answers are the official game site, FromSoftware’s launch notices and Nintendo’s final online-feature documentation. An explicit platform list and a sentence saying “cross-play supported” are the evidence needed before assuming mixed-hardware matchmaking.
What does “co-op” mean in this game?
