The best Samsung phones of 2026 are not one universal model: the Galaxy S26 is the best choice for most people, the S26 Ultra is the best conventional flagship, the Z Fold8 is the best foldable for most buyers, the Z Fold8 Ultra is for productivity, the Z Flip8 is the compact foldable, and the A57 5G is the value pick.
These recommendations reflect the independent testing cited from Tom’s Guide and TechRadar, combined with Samsung’s current specifications and launch information. The rankings distinguish mainstream use from camera, S Pen, foldable, productivity, compact-design, and long-support priorities.
Key takeaways
- The Galaxy S26 is the default choice for most buyers because Tom’s Guide’s March 14, 2026 review found strong performance, useful Agentic AI features, improved display visibility, good gaming performance, and a lightweight design after a week of testing.
- The Galaxy S26 Ultra is Samsung’s most complete conventional flagship, with a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ display, S Pen support, a 5,000mAh battery, and a built-in Privacy Display according to Samsung Electronics’ 2026 First Quarter Interim Report.
- The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the best foldable for most buyers, combining a 5.5-inch cover screen, a 7.6-inch inner screen, and flagship-level performance.
- The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the productivity specialist, with an 8-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display, but the S26 Ultra remains the more straightforward camera-first phone.
- The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the best compact foldable for buyers who specifically want a pocketable clamshell, FlexWindow features, and hands-free shooting rather than maximum value.
- The Galaxy A57 5G is the value model for ordinary users who prioritize a bright display and long software support over demanding gaming or flagship camera quality.
What does tested mean in this 2026 Galaxy comparison?
“Tested” refers to the independent testing and reviews cited in this article, not first-hand testing by the writer. The Galaxy S26 and Z Fold8 recommendations rely especially on Tom’s Guide reviews, while the S26 Ultra, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8, and A57 5G assessments also draw on TechRadar testing. The article does not claim that one reviewer personally tested every Samsung phone in the lineup.
The 2026 Samsung range is materially different from the 2025 range. The Galaxy S26 family launched in February 2026 and became available worldwide on March 10, 2026, while Samsung announced the Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8 foldable generation in July. Samsung’s current U.S. smartphone index presents the S26 Ultra and the three new foldables as current products. The Galaxy A57 5G is the principal mid-range A-series recommendation in this comparison.
Country-specific models, storage configurations, carrier editions, and retailer promotions can change the result. The A57 5G recommendation is particularly region-sensitive because the U.S. launch configuration differs from some U.K. and Australian configurations.

How do the best Samsung phones of 2026 compare?
| Phone | Best for | What makes it compelling | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | Most people | Lightweight conventional flagship, strong performance, useful AI, brighter and larger display, good gaming | Higher price than the previous generation, shorter battery life than desired, and limited camera improvement |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | Traditional flagship buyers | 6.9-inch display, S Pen, top S-series camera and zoom system, Privacy Display, premium performance | Large and expensive; unnecessary for light users |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 | Most foldable buyers | 5.5-inch cover screen, 7.6-inch inner screen, wider and more conventional form factor, flagship performance | Thicker and more mechanically complex than a regular phone, with a higher purchase cost |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | Productivity and large-screen use | 8-inch inner display, 6.5-inch cover display, maximum workspace, Ultra positioning | Expensive and less conventional; S26 Ultra is more direct for camera-focused buyers |

Which Samsung phone is best for most people?
The Galaxy S26 is the best Samsung phone for most people because it delivers a high-end conventional smartphone experience without the size and cost of the Ultra models or the complexity of a folding hinge. The Galaxy S26 is the safest default recommendation for messaging, browsing, streaming, photography, gaming, and everyday AI features.
Why is the Galaxy S26 the best all-around Galaxy?
Tom’s Guide tested the Galaxy S26 for a week and highlighted the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, Agentic AI features, a brighter and larger display, Horizon Lock video stabilization, gaming performance, and a lightweight design. Those strengths make the Galaxy S26 a balanced choice for buyers who want flagship speed in a conventional phone that is easier to carry than the S26 Ultra. See the full Tom’s Guide Galaxy S26 review for the independent testing behind this recommendation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Galaxy S26 is not the best choice for every buyer. Tom’s Guide reported a $100 price increase over the previous generation, shorter battery life than desired, and no major camera improvement over the Galaxy S25 generation. Buyers should therefore choose the Galaxy S26 for its overall balance, performance, display, and size—not because the Galaxy S26 is the clear camera leader or an automatic value winner.
The Galaxy S26 makes more sense than the Ultra when the buyer does not need S Pen note-taking, long-range zoom, the largest screen, or the Ultra’s more advanced camera system. The Galaxy S26 Ultra makes more sense when one of those features is a central reason for upgrading.
When is the Galaxy S26 Ultra worth buying?
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is worth buying when the buyer specifically wants Samsung’s strongest traditional-phone package: a large display, S Pen support, the most capable S-series camera and zoom system, premium performance, and built-in privacy technology. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is not automatically the best Samsung phone for a light user who mainly messages, browses, streams, and takes ordinary photos.
According to Samsung Electronics’ 2026 First Quarter Interim Report, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ display, weighs 214 grams, measures 7.9 millimeters thick, runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5, and uses a 5,000mAh battery. Samsung describes the S26 Ultra as thinner and lighter than the S25 Ultra. Samsung also identifies the built-in Privacy Display as a first-of-its-kind feature for the industry.

The S Pen adds a practical reason to choose the Ultra for handwritten notes and precise input. The camera system and optical reach also give the S26 Ultra a stronger case for travel, distant subjects, and buyers who treat phone photography as a priority. TechRadar’s independent S26 Ultra review supports the phone’s premium performance and camera positioning, although “best” still depends on the buyer’s priorities.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

The trade-off is straightforward: the Galaxy S26 Ultra is large, heavy compared with the regular S26, and expensive. A buyer who does not use the S Pen, large display, zoom camera, or privacy screen can obtain most of the everyday Galaxy S26 experience in a smaller and less costly design.
Buying note: If the S26 Ultra is the right fit, compare the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra unlocked smartphone listing carefully before purchasing. Storage, color, seller, carrier status, and current price can change. This product mention may be monetized through a qualifying retail referral; the recommendation itself is based on fit, not on a claim that every buyer needs the Ultra.
What is the best Samsung foldable phone for most people?
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the best Samsung foldable for most buyers because the wider form factor makes the closed phone more usable while the inner display creates a much larger workspace when opened. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the right middle ground for readers who want documents, multitasking, reading, video, and a tablet-like canvas without moving all the way to the productivity-specialist Z Fold8 Ultra.

Samsung’s U.S. product material lists a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main screen for the Galaxy Z Fold8. The cover display handles normal phone tasks, while the inner display is useful for documents, side-by-side apps, long articles, maps, and video. Tom’s Guide calls the Galaxy Z Fold8 the best foldable for most people and reports flagship-level performance from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is a flexibility recommendation, not a value or camera-dominance recommendation. The open screen can replace some tablet use, but the foldable form remains thicker and mechanically more complex than the Galaxy S26 series. Buyers should choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 because the inner display will materially change how they work or consume content, not simply because folding hardware is novel.
Who should buy the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra?
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is for people whose work or entertainment genuinely benefits from the largest available Galaxy foldable workspace. Samsung describes the first Ultra-branded foldable as a productivity-focused device with an 8-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display in its official Z Fold8 Ultra product material.
The 8-inch inner display gives documents, spreadsheets, multitasking, and media more room than the standard Z Fold8. TechRadar’s Z Fold8 Ultra review describes a flatter, thinner design with a crease that is close to invisible during use. Those improvements support a premium productivity case, but they do not make the Fold8 Ultra the automatic winner over the S26 Ultra.

The 6.5-inch cover screen is less wide than the conventional display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, so the S26 Ultra remains the more straightforward option for ordinary phone use, camera-first buyers, and people who rarely need a tablet-sized screen. In Tom’s Guide’s August 8, 2026 camera comparison, both the Z Fold8 Ultra and S26 Ultra use a 200MP main camera, but the S26 Ultra retains advantages in optical range and low-light performance. The independent camera comparison is the better reference for buyers choosing between the two Ultras.

Samsung recommends official magnetic cases and accessories for the Z Fold8 Ultra. Case compatibility matters more here than with a standard slab phone: buyers should select accessories made for the exact Z Fold8 Ultra model rather than assuming that a Z Fold8 or S26 Ultra accessory will fit.
Is the Galaxy Z Flip8 worth buying?
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is worth buying when pocketability, a clamshell design, hands-free shooting, and personal style matter more than maximum camera quality or performance per dollar. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is not the best general-purpose Galaxy for most people; the conventional Galaxy S26 is the safer all-around choice.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip8 alongside the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra in July 2026, and the phone reached shelves on August 7, 2026. Samsung positions the Z Flip8 around self-expression and more intuitive AI interactions through FlexWindow. The clamshell design allows a large phone to close into a small footprint and supports hands-free shooting at useful angles. Samsung’s launch announcement is documented in the official Galaxy foldables release.

The value case is weaker. Tom’s Guide describes the Z Flip8 as more expensive and barely different, while TechRadar’s camera and vlogging test reports that the phone retains the 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP selfie camera arrangement without clearly outperforming competing foldables in image quality. The TechRadar Z Flip8 camera and vlogging test supports a creator-oriented recommendation, but also makes the camera compromise clear.
Choose the Z Flip8 if the folding format itself is the main reason to buy. Choose the Galaxy S26 if a buyer wants dependable everyday photography, straightforward handling, and stronger value from a conventional flagship.
Is the Galaxy A57 5G the best value Samsung phone?
The Galaxy A57 5G is the best value-oriented Samsung recommendation for ordinary users who value display quality, a slim body, and long support more than flagship performance, advanced photography, or demanding gaming. The Galaxy A57 5G is not a good substitute for the S26 family for serious mobile gamers or serious mobile photographers.
Samsung’s U.S. launch information says the Galaxy A57 5G launched on April 9, 2026, with a U.S. starting price of $549.99. Samsung promises six OS upgrades and six years of security updates, and lists a 6.9-millimeter, 179-gram design with Knox Vault security. The Samsung U.S. launch announcement provides the U.S.-specific price and support information; retailer pricing can change after launch.

TechRadar’s April 23, 2026 review measured a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED Plus display, 1,900-nit peak brightness, an Exynos 1680 processor, and a 5,000mAh battery. TechRadar reported approximately one-and-a-half days of typical use. The full Galaxy A57 review found a good display, slender body, clean software, and competent everyday use, while criticizing the price increase, middling performance, and camera quality.
The Galaxy A57 5G is therefore a long-support phone with meaningful compromises. The A57 5G makes sense for messaging, social apps, video, web browsing, routine photographs, and moderate gaming. The S26 or S26 Ultra makes more sense for sustained gaming, demanding camera work, faster flagship performance, or a more premium long-term experience.

Should you choose the Galaxy S26 or S26 Ultra?
Choose the Galaxy S26 for portability and balanced everyday performance; choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra for the S Pen, camera reach, large display, privacy screen, and maximum conventional-phone capability. The Galaxy S26 is the better default, while the S26 Ultra is the better specialist tool.
The difference is not simply screen size. The S26 Ultra’s camera system, S Pen, and display are reasons to buy the phone, whereas the S26’s appeal is that it provides a strong flagship experience without requiring the buyer to carry the largest model. Buyers who cannot name a specific Ultra feature they will use regularly should start with the Galaxy S26.
Should you choose a Galaxy Fold or a regular Galaxy phone?
Choose a Galaxy Z Fold8 or Z Fold8 Ultra when opening the phone to a larger screen will improve work, reading, multitasking, or entertainment several times each week. Choose the Galaxy S26 or S26 Ultra when simplicity, conventional ergonomics, camera consistency, and easier accessory selection matter more.
Foldables introduce a hinge and two-screen design, so foldable ownership involves different handling and accessory decisions. The available dossier does not establish a blanket durability winner through a controlled test. Buyers should not interpret a flatter design or a less visible crease as proof that one foldable is universally more durable than another.
Is the Galaxy A57 5G good enough for gaming and photography?
The Galaxy A57 5G is good enough for ordinary gaming and everyday snapshots, but the phone is a poor fit for demanding mobile gamers and serious mobile photographers. TechRadar’s testing found competent daily use alongside middling performance and camera quality, making the A57 a support-and-display choice rather than a speed-and-camera choice.

What should you check before buying a 2026 Samsung phone?
- Confirm the region. U.S. launch prices and availability do not automatically apply in the U.K., Australia, or other markets. The Galaxy A57 5G’s storage configurations also vary by country.
- Recheck current pricing. The $549.99 Galaxy A57 5G figure is a U.S. launch starting price, not a permanent worldwide price. Foldable and Ultra pricing is especially sensitive to storage, promotions, trade-ins, and seller.
- Verify software features. Samsung AI feature names, supported functions, Android versions, One UI versions, and regional availability can change. Confirm the exact software build and supported features at publication or purchase.
- Match the camera claim to the need. The S26 Ultra is the camera-first conventional recommendation here. The regular S26 offers no major camera hardware improvement over the S25 according to independent testing, and the Z Flip8’s camera evolution is modest.
- Check the exact model before buying accessories. A case for the S26 Ultra, Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, or Z Flip8 is not interchangeable with the others. Foldable owners should pay particular attention to hinge and screen coverage.
- Do not infer durability from form factor alone. A foldable is mechanically more complex than a slab phone, but the supplied testing does not justify declaring one model universally more or less durable.
Which accessories and creator tools make sense?
Accessories should follow the phone choice rather than determine it. A model-specific Galaxy S26 Ultra case is appropriate for the large conventional flagship, while a Galaxy Z Fold8 case or Galaxy Z Flip8 case must match the exact foldable model. Samsung specifically points Z Fold8 Ultra buyers toward official magnetic cases and accessories. A compatible screen protector and a USB-C fast charger for Galaxy phones can also be sensible additions, but charger performance should be checked against the phone’s supported charging standard and the charger’s actual rating.
For creators: The Z Flip8’s hands-free shooting can suit vlogging and live-content workflows. StreamNeo’s official service description says that cloud live streaming from a phone can loop recorded phone video into a continuous YouTube live stream and automatically recover the stream. That is an optional creator use case for Galaxy phone owners, not a reason for ordinary buyers to subscribe or a feature required by any Galaxy model.
How Galaxy creators can keep YouTube Live running
StreamNeo lets Galaxy creators upload a recorded video and paste a YouTube stream key to turn that file into an always-on YouTube Live broadcast from the cloud.
Because the stream runs in the cloud while the PC stays off, creators do not need to leave a computer or encoder running for the broadcast. This suits a Galaxy owner who wants to keep a channel live after recording the source video.
StreamNeo checks stream health every 30 seconds and automatically restarts a dropped stream. A 24-hour 720p/30fps trial is free with no card at signup, giving creators a practical way to test the workflow before committing.

The Galaxy S26 is the best Samsung phone of 2026 for the broadest audience. The Galaxy S26 Ultra earns the traditional flagship recommendation for buyers who will use its S Pen, large display, camera reach, or Privacy Display. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the best foldable for most buyers, while the Z Fold8 Ultra is reserved for people who can justify its larger productivity workspace. The Z Flip8 is the compact, design-led choice, and the Galaxy A57 5G is the sensible long-support option for ordinary users who accept mid-range camera and performance limits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Samsung phone has the best camera in 2026?
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the strongest camera-first conventional choice in this comparison because it has Samsung’s top S-series camera and zoom system. The Z Fold8 Ultra also has a 200MP main camera, but Tom’s Guide’s August 8, 2026 comparison found the S26 Ultra ahead in optical range and low-light performance.
Is the Galaxy A57 5G good for gaming?
The Galaxy A57 5G is suitable for ordinary gaming but is not recommended for demanding mobile gamers. TechRadar’s April 23, 2026 review found competent everyday performance but criticized the phone’s middling performance and camera quality.
Are Samsung foldable phones more durable than regular Galaxy phones?
The supplied independent testing does not establish a blanket durability winner among Samsung’s 2026 foldables. Foldables are mechanically more complex than conventional phones, so buyers should use model-specific protection and check warranty terms rather than assuming that a thinner design or less visible crease guarantees greater durability.
