For most businesses, start by comparing 1Password Business and Bitwarden. 1Password is the stronger fit when employee adoption, identity-provider integrations, reporting and developer workflows are priorities. Bitwarden stands out for lower published seat prices and the option to self-host. Keeper, Dashlane, NordPass and Proton Pass each suit more specific needs, from regulated-industry controls to Google Workspace integration and privacy-focused plans.

The right choice depends on more than password storage: consider how a product connects to your identity provider, handles shared credentials and employee departures, and fits your deployment and compliance requirements.

Business password managers: what to compare

A business password manager stores employee credentials and other sensitive information in encrypted vaults, then adds administrative controls for sharing, policies, provisioning, reporting and offboarding. Bitwarden describes its business product as a digital vault for passwords and other secure information with business administration features.

Before comparing products, check these capabilities against your existing identity and security setup:

  • Identity integration: Confirm whether the plan supports single sign-on (SSO), System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) provisioning, or directory synchronization—and whether it works with your identity provider.
  • Administration: Review group and role controls, policy enforcement, event or audit logs, recovery options and the ability to remove access when an employee leaves.
  • Sharing: Check how teams share credentials and other secrets without sending plaintext passwords through chat or email.
  • Deployment and security: Decide whether a hosted service is suitable or whether self-hosting is required. Evaluate the vendor’s security architecture and the compliance evidence your organization needs.
  • Adoption: Consider how easily employees can enroll, save credentials and use autofill, as well as whether the product supports developer workflows.
  • Total cost: Compare per-user pricing alongside seat minimums, billing terms and which plan includes the integrations and controls you need.

Compare the six business password managers

Product Best fit Published pricing in the cited 2026 sources Standout consideration
1Password Business General business use and developer workflows $8.99 per user/month, billed annually (Spotsaas, September 2026 comparison) Identity-provider provisioning, reporting, developer tools and governance for unmanaged business logins
Bitwarden Teams / Enterprise Value-conscious organizations and teams that need deployment control Teams: $4 per user/month; Enterprise: $6 per user/month; both billed annually (Bitwarden official page, 2026) Enterprise adds self-hosting, passwordless SSO and granular access controls
Keeper Business / Enterprise Regulated industries and organizations considering privileged access management (PAM) Business Starter from $2 per user/month for small seat bundles; Enterprise $6 per user/month (Spotsaas, September 2026 comparison) Compliance-oriented controls and a PAM upgrade path
Dashlane Omnix Password Management Teams seeking password-health and credential-risk signals $8 per user/month, billed annually (Expert Insights and Spotsaas, 2026) Omnix adds phishing alerts and proactive credential-risk detection
NordPass Business Small and mid-sized teams using Google Workspace Teams: $2.49 per user/month in a 10-user pack; Business: $5.99 and Enterprise: $7.99 per user/month, each with a five-user minimum (Spotsaas, September 2026 comparison) Native Google Workspace SSO, an activity-log API and granular user- or role-based rules
Proton Pass for Business Privacy-sensitive teams seeking a lower-cost entry plan Essentials from $1.99 per user/month, billed annually, with a three-user minimum; Professional from $4.49 per user/month (Spotsaas, September 2026 comparison) Professional includes SSO and SCIM

Prices are the figures reported by the named sources, not a like-for-like quote: plan inclusions, minimum seats and billing terms differ. NordPass prices vary by term and tier, and longer commitments reduce its prices. Enterprise pricing for 1Password is sales-led rather than listed as a public per-seat figure.

Which business password manager should you choose?

1Password Business: best overall for adoption and developer workflows

Choose 1Password if you want a polished employee experience alongside business administration and developer credential tooling. Its official feature comparison lists two-secret-key derivation, AES-256 vault encryption, SSO, developer integrations and governance for unmanaged business logins. The company says those features were reviewed as of August 2026. The September 2026 comparison also lists role-based vault sharing, Watchtower alerts, reports, SIEM event streaming and guest accounts.

Bitwarden Teams or Enterprise: best value and self-hosting choice

Bitwarden is a strong option for organizations watching per-seat costs or seeking more control over deployment. Its official plan information lists centralized management, secure credential sharing, event logs, directory synchronization and SCIM for Teams. Enterprise adds granular access control, passwordless SSO, enterprise policies, self-hosting and access-intelligence remediation. Self-hosting makes Bitwarden a candidate for teams with the technical capacity to operate their own deployment; confirm the operational and security responsibilities before choosing it.

Keeper Business or Enterprise: best for regulated industries and a PAM path

Keeper is worth shortlisting when compliance-oriented controls matter or the organization may later need privileged access management. Security.org highlights its zero-knowledge architecture and BreachWatch monitoring, while the September 2026 comparison lists SSO and SCIM with Enterprise. Confirm the evidence, configuration and plan requirements against the specific regulations and audits your organization faces; a product feature alone does not establish compliance.

How to roll out a password manager at work

  1. Inventory your requirements. Record your identity provider, employee seat count, regulated data, existing directory, developer tooling needs and any self-hosting requirement.
  2. Set minimum controls. Where your identity stack supports them, require SSO and SCIM or directory synchronization. Define role-based access, event-log access and an offboarding workflow before rollout.
  3. Pilot with different users. Start with IT and one nontechnical department. Track enrollment and successful autofill so you can spot usability or configuration problems before company-wide deployment.
  4. Assign vault ownership and recovery. Decide who owns shared vaults, how teams recover access and which administrators can change permissions. Document the recovery process for use if an employee or administrator becomes unavailable.
  5. Make offboarding a defined process. Include removal of password-manager access, reassignment of shared-vault ownership and review of credentials an employee could access. Coordinate this with identity-provider account suspension.
  6. Consider phishing-resistant MFA. FIDO2 or U2F security keys can be part of the MFA setup. Verify compatibility with both your identity provider and the password manager before rollout; support for a key standard does not by itself confirm that every configuration will work.

How to make the final choice

Start with your non-negotiables rather than the lowest advertised price. If adoption, reporting and developer workflows lead, evaluate 1Password first; if self-hosting or value leads, assess Bitwarden Enterprise. For Google Workspace integration, include NordPass. Add Keeper when regulated-industry controls or a PAM expansion path matter, Dashlane when credential-risk signals are a priority, and Proton Pass when privacy and an economical entry tier are central.
