Super Battle Golf is a simultaneous multiplayer race to the hole. Up to eight players swing, move and use disruptive items on the same course at the same time, so winning depends on more than accurate shots. You must keep moving, choose routes quickly, decide when a pickup is worth the detour and use attacks to gain time without abandoning your own line. Start by learning a repeatable swing-and-movement rhythm in solo practice, then add items and live opponents as your map knowledge improves.
What is Super Battle Golf?
Brimstone’s official press-kit description calls it “An online 1-8 player golf game where everyone plays at the same time.” That sentence explains the essential difference from turn-based golf: your shot, movement and decisions happen while other players are advancing, taking shortcuts and interfering with one another.
The immediate objective is to make progress toward the hole faster than the rest of the lobby. A beginner guide describes rockets, mines, lasers, golf carts and other interactions layered onto ordinary golf movement. These tools can slow an opponent or open a route, but they do not replace golfing. The player who spends too long fighting can lose the race to someone taking steady shots toward the hole.

Think of each hole as a time-and-position problem. Every action should do at least one of four things: advance your ball, improve your position, protect your route or delay an opponent. If it does none of those, it is probably costing you the match.

How do Super Battle Golf matches work?
Matches follow a repeating race loop rather than a fixed turn order. You aim and charge a shot, release it, move immediately, read the next section of terrain and decide whether to take a safe line, a shortcut or an item detour.
- Aim and charge. Set the direction and power for the next shot. Use a charge level you can reproduce instead of holding out for a theoretically perfect hit.
- Release and move. Start repositioning as soon as the shot leaves. Remaining stationary while you watch the ball makes you easier to attack and delays your next decision.
- Read the terrain. Look for slopes, hazards, gaps, ramps, vehicles, checkpoints and alternate lines before committing to the next swing.
- Evaluate pickups. Take an item when its likely speed, protection, disruption or route access is worth more than the time spent leaving your current line.
- Use the item with a purpose. A well-timed attack can create an opening, but firing simply because an item is available may waste the moment or expose your own route.
- Keep prioritizing the hole. Combat is a way to gain time. Return to movement and shot selection as soon as the tactical exchange is over.
Detailed scoring, respawn behavior, timers and mode labels can change with updates or custom rules. Treat the current in-game rules screen as authoritative when it conflicts with an older guide.
What controls should a beginner learn first?
Beginner material describes a control model built around mouse aiming, a charged left-click swing, movement and a separate item-use action. It also identifies diving or dodging, pickups, vehicles, checkpoints and inventory management as important mechanics. Exact keys can differ by platform, patch or personal settings, so verify the binding display before relying on a memorized key.
Build a three-shot charge reference
In practice, deliberately repeat a short, medium and long charge. Note how far each normally sends the ball on level ground and how much correction is needed on slopes. You are not trying to memorize a universal distance; you are creating a personal reference that makes quick decisions possible when opponents are moving.
Combine aiming with movement
Use the time before release to aim, then move while the ball travels. If you need a longer look at terrain, reposition first and aim from a safer angle rather than standing in the open. Learn the dive or dodge action early because a defensive movement can preserve a route that would otherwise be interrupted.
Find interaction and item actions
Identify the control used to pick up an item, enter or use a vehicle and activate the item currently in your inventory. Practice switching your attention between the ball, the route and the item indicator. If an update changes a binding, recheck it in practice instead of assuming a third-party control list is still current.
Use checkpoints as route objectives
Where a map provides checkpoints or equivalent recovery points, treat them as part of navigation. Reaching one can make an aggressive line less costly because a mistake later does not erase the entire approach. The exact recovery behavior is map- and rule-dependent, so confirm it in the current match.

Which mode should a beginner choose?
Choose the mode that isolates the skill you need next. Solo practice is best for learning routes and charge timing; online multiplayer supplies real pressure; spectator play reveals how experienced players connect terrain and items; custom rules let a private group reduce complexity or emphasize one mechanic.
| Mode | Best use | Pressure | Primary skills | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo practice | Learn shot angles, terrain and safe routes | Low | Charge control, movement rhythm, map memory | It does not reproduce unpredictable attacks from live opponents |
| Online multiplayer | Apply skills in real-time races | High | Fast decisions, item timing, opponent awareness | New maps or patches can make older advice less reliable |
| Spectator play | Observe routes and item timing | None while watching | Pattern recognition and strategic reading | Watching does not build charge control by itself |
| Custom rules | Private practice or a simplified session | Adjustable | Focused drills and group experimentation | Results may not transfer directly to standard rules |
Start with solo practice
Run the same section several times using the safest line. Your goal is to learn where a short shot is enough, where a longer charge risks overshooting and which hazards force a movement adjustment. Once the route feels automatic, test one shortcut at a time.
Move to online multiplayer
Use live matches to practice acting under pressure, not to discover every map mechanic at once. Keep your first objective simple: complete a reliable route while moving between shots. Add aggressive item plays only after you can reach the hole without freezing to aim.
Use spectator play deliberately
Watch how a strong player approaches the same terrain from several positions. Look for when they stop chasing an opponent, whether they take an item before or after a shot and how they recover from a missed line. These observations help you identify decisions to rehearse in solo play.

Private custom rules are useful when a group wants to remove distractions, repeat a map or focus on a particular interaction. Because custom settings can reshape the session, record which rules were enabled before judging whether a tactic works in standard play.
How should I use items without losing time?
Every pickup has an opportunity cost. Compare the time needed to reach it with the time its effect is likely to save. An item that looks powerful is still a bad choice if the detour leaves you behind or places you in a worse position.
Mobility items
Speed boosts, vehicles and other movement tools are valuable when they shorten a substantial part of the route or help cross difficult terrain. Take them when the approach is already near your line; do not abandon a strong angle for a small movement gain.

Disruption items
Rockets, lasers and similar attacks are strongest when they delay an opponent who is about to pass a narrow section, take a shortcut or reach the hole. Fire when the delay changes the race, then return to your own route. Chasing a player across the map often costs more than the interruption is worth.

Area-denial items
Mines and hazards can make a route temporarily unsafe. Place or use them where an opponent is likely to travel, while checking that your own next movement will not cross the danger zone. A defensive placement that protects your line can be more valuable than a random attack.
Route-access items
Some tools solve a terrain problem or open a shortcut. Before collecting one, identify the exact obstacle it solves and the landing point you expect. If you cannot name the saved section of route, continue golfing instead of detouring for the pickup.
Spend inventory instead of hoarding it
Guides describe a limited inventory and recommend converting items into immediate time, safety or route value. Use a tool when it creates a clear advantage, then replace it when convenient. Saving every item for an imagined perfect moment can leave you carrying unused power while opponents gain ground.
How can I win more Super Battle Golf matches?
Winning comes from repeatable progress under pressure. Improve one decision category at a time: shot reliability, movement, route choice, item timing and opponent reading.

1. Prefer reliable progress to perfect swings
A controlled shot that advances the ball and keeps you mobile is usually better than a perfect-looking charge that leaves you exposed. Set a practical charge limit for dangerous areas and release before you become a stationary target. Consistency also makes your next position easier to predict and plan.
2. Move while aiming and after releasing
Standing still gives opponents a simple target and delays your next shot. Aim from a position that offers cover or an escape line, release, then immediately move toward the next decision point. This rhythm—aim, release, reposition, assess—keeps your turn in the race even when the ball takes an unexpected bounce.

3. Choose routes by time economy
Compare the complete cost of a line: charge time, travel distance, hazard risk, pickup detour and likely recovery. A safe route that you can repeat may beat a shortcut that works only with a precise angle. Learn the safe line first, then test shortcuts where the saved distance is large enough to justify the added failure risk.
4. Use disruption when it protects your own timing
Attack when an opponent is entering a bottleneck, approaching a checkpoint or about to finish a section you cannot otherwise contest. If the attack requires a long chase or a risky stop, keep moving instead. The best disruption often doubles as defense by making your own route harder to challenge.

Map knowledge determines shot selection, item locations, hazards, shortcuts and recovery routes. Practice each map until you know the next safe landing area before you swing. Once those landmarks are familiar, you can spend attention on opponents rather than rediscovering terrain during a live race.
6. Read opponents without copying their route blindly
Watch whether a rival is taking a fast but fragile line or a slower route with reliable checkpoints. You do not need to follow them to respond: choose the line that leaves you with the better next position. If they stop to fight, gaining distance toward the hole may be the strongest counter.
7. Recover quickly from a mistake
After a miss, stop trying to recreate the lost shot. Identify the nearest safe landing, checkpoint or item that restores momentum and take it. A fast recovery keeps one error from becoming a full-hole deficit.
What beginner mistakes cost the most time?
- Charging too long in danger: a stronger shot is not useful if the extra charge leaves you exposed.
- Ignoring items: treating the game like ordinary golf forfeits mobility, disruption and route-access opportunities.
- Hoarding inventory: unused tools provide no advantage while opponents continue advancing.
- Chasing too far: following an opponent away from the hole turns a tactical exchange into lost travel time.
- Skipping map and checkpoint learning: raw swing accuracy cannot compensate for unknown hazards and poor recovery lines.
- Trusting old control lists: updates or personal settings can change bindings and interaction behavior.
How should I practice between matches?
Use short, focused drills rather than trying to master every mechanic in one session.
- Charge drill: repeat short, medium and long swings from the same start point until each has a predictable result.
- Movement drill: aim, release and reach the next safe position without stopping to watch the entire ball flight.
- Route drill: run the safest line to a checkpoint, then compare one shortcut against it.
- Item drill: practice collecting and activating one item while continuing toward the hole.
- Pressure drill: enter online play and keep the same routine while ignoring low-value distractions.
When a tactic fails, record the cause in practical terms: charge was too long, the detour was too far, the attack missed its timing or the route lacked a recovery point. Correct that one variable in the next run.

How current are the modes, controls and item details?
They are update-sensitive. Steam announcements for Super Battle Golf document changes involving modes, maps, items and fixes, so third-party guides can become inaccurate after a patch. Before a serious session, check the current in-game rules and control screens, and confirm that the mode and map you intend to practice still use the same mechanics.
The stable principle is simultaneous competition: everyone is advancing at once, and your best decisions preserve forward progress while creating time for you or removing it from an opponent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I learn Super Battle Golf without playing online?
Yes. Solo practice can teach charge distances, map landmarks and recovery routes without live interference. Add online matches when you can complete a reliable line while moving between shots, because solo play cannot reproduce opponent timing.
Is it better to attack the leader or keep golfing?
Attack only when the disruption changes a meaningful section of the race, such as a bottleneck or shortcut approach. If reaching the leader requires a long detour, continuing toward the hole usually preserves more time.
How do I know whether a pickup is worth taking?
Estimate the complete detour, including the approach and the return to your route, then identify the specific distance, hazard or opponent timing the item changes. If you cannot name a concrete saved section, stay on your current line.
Why do controls in a guide not match my game?
Bindings can differ by platform, personal settings and updates. Use the current control screen in the game as the authority, then rehearse pickup, item-use, vehicle and dodge actions before entering a competitive match.
