Verdict: The Sunbeam Kyoto City Collection KEM8007 is a 1.7-litre household jug kettle aimed at buyers who care about appearance as much as straightforward boiling. Its metal body, soft illumination, push-button lid and cordless 360-degree base make it more distinctive and usable than a basic plastic kettle. It is a sensible buy if you want a full-size kettle for several cups and do not need precise tea-brewing temperatures.
The important qualifications are equally clear: the documented controls are for boiling to 100 °C rather than selecting 80, 90 or 95 °C, the warranty is a 12-month replacement warranty, and user feedback is positive but mixed rather than conclusive. Treat it as a design-led everyday kettle for home use, not as a commercial appliance or a specialist temperature-control brewer.
What is the Sunbeam Kyoto KEM8007?
The KEM8007 is Sunbeam’s Japanese-inspired Kyoto City Collection jug kettle. The white version is identified as KEM8007WH, while a black variant is listed as KEM8007BK. Both are positioned around a minimalist Kyoto aesthetic, a gently lit base area and a push-button lid that opens from the handle.
It is a conventional electric kettle in operation: fill the jug, place it on its power base, switch it on and let the concealed element heat the water to boiling. The published information describes a boiling temperature of 100 °C, not a set of selectable lower-temperature programs. That distinction determines whether the KEM8007 suits you: it is convenient for coffee, instant drinks and fully boiled water, but less suitable for green, white or specialty teas that benefit from lower temperatures.

How practical is the 1.7-litre size?
A 1.7 L capacity is the KEM8007’s most useful everyday specification. Sunbeam describes it as enough for seven standard cups, which gives a household room to make several hot drinks without refilling between each serving. It also accommodates a larger saucepan or cafetière fill than a compact one-litre kettle.
Capacity is not the same as the amount you should always boil. Heating only what you need saves time and electricity, and the transparent water window helps you judge the level before switching on. A full jug also means more weight to lift and pour, especially for anyone with limited hand strength. If you usually make one or two cups, a smaller kettle can be easier to handle and may boil less water per cycle.
Will it fit under kitchen cupboards?
The listed height is 253 mm, with a 158 mm width and 205 mm depth. Measure the space with the lid-open path in mind: the push-button lid needs room to open for filling, and the handle needs clearance for lifting the jug from its base. The 900 mm lead can be stored in the base, which helps keep excess cable off a shallow bench.
How fast and efficiently does the KEM8007 boil?
The kettle is rated between 2000 and 2400 W by Sunbeam, while Appliances Online lists a 2400 W connected load. That is a typical high-power range for a full-size domestic kettle and should provide brisk boiling when filled with a modest amount of water. The available material does not provide a controlled stopwatch test, a minimum-fill time or a measured energy figure, so an exact boil-time claim would be unwarranted.
Power draw can vary with the water volume, starting temperature and household supply. A full 1.7 L jug will naturally take longer than one cup, even at the same rated wattage. For repeatable results, fill to the amount required rather than relying on the maximum mark every time.

Does the Sunbeam Kyoto KEM8007 have temperature control?
No documented variable-temperature presets are provided. The published specification describes boiling to 100 °C and does not identify buttons or modes for 80, 85, 90 or 95 °C.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That makes the KEM8007 straightforward: it is well suited to black tea, herbal infusions, instant coffee, cooking water and any recipe that calls for boiling water. It is not the right feature set if you routinely brew delicate tea at a lower temperature, want to hold water at a selected temperature, or need a display showing the current water temperature. Choosing a variable-temperature model is the more direct solution for those jobs than trying to stop this kettle manually.
What are the design and handling advantages?
Metal body with a restrained appearance
The metal construction gives the KEM8007 a more substantial, minimalist look than an all-plastic budget kettle. Sunbeam’s Kyoto City Collection styling is intended to suggest Japanese simplicity rather than add decorative controls. Metal can become hot during and immediately after boiling, so handle the jug by its insulated handle and keep hands away from the body and spout.
Illumination and water visibility
The illuminated switch or tank creates a visible glow while the kettle is operating. Sunbeam describes the feature as “Subtly lit from below, the premium illumination is reminiscent of the delicate floating lanterns shining throughout the Old City.” The transparent water-level indicator provides a second practical benefit: you can check the fill without opening the lid.
Push-button lid and cordless base
The lid opens from a button rather than requiring you to pull it up by hand. That is useful when the other hand is holding a tap or jug. Once filled, the jug lifts free of its base, and the 360-degree connector allows it to be returned from any direction. The arrangement is convenient for left- or right-handed users and avoids a cable attached directly to the pouring jug.
Is the Kyoto KEM8007 noisy?
There is no published decibel measurement or independent laboratory noise test in the available evidence. ProductReview displayed a customer comment describing the kettle as quieter than a previous kettle, but that is a personal comparison under unknown conditions rather than a controlled result.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

In practical terms, expect the normal rushing and clicking sounds of a high-power kettle. Noise can change with the water level, limescale, the surface under the base and the age of the appliance. The KEM8007 should not be purchased on the assumption that it is a certified quiet kettle; the evidence supports only that some owners found it quieter than what they previously used.
How safe is it, and what does the manual require?
Sunbeam lists a three-way safety system, but the published summary does not break down each protection mechanism. Use the kettle within the manual’s limits rather than treating the safety system as permission to leave it unattended.
- Fill before switching on. Do not operate the kettle without water. Keep the level within the marked range and avoid overfilling so boiling water cannot surge from the spout.
- Close the lid and place the jug correctly. Confirm that the lid is shut and the jug is seated on the 360-degree base before pressing the switch.
- Do not open the lid during boiling. The manual states: “Do not open lid while water is boiling.” Steam and hot water can escape through the opening.
- Pour carefully. Keep the spout and hot metal body away from children, and use the handle rather than touching the heated jug.
- Disconnect before cleaning. Unplug the kettle when it is not in use and before cleaning. Never immerse the jug, base or cord in water.
- Keep boiling water away from children. Place the appliance where a child cannot pull the cord or reach the hot surface.
These are operating requirements, not optional tips. If the kettle boils dry, the switch behaves unexpectedly or the cord or base is damaged, stop using it and follow Sunbeam’s service or replacement process instead of continuing to test it.

CHOICE’s specification panel confirms the main physical details: 1.7 L capacity, 2000–2400 W power, a 90 cm cord, a transparent water indicator, illumination and a one-year warranty. It records a measured weight of 1.12 kg, slightly below Sunbeam’s listed 1.17 kg; small differences can result from measurement method, packaging or variant.
ProductReview displayed a 3.7/5 score from 64 reviews at the time of checking, with 68% positive, 15% negative and 17% neutral sentiment shown on the page. Customer comments mentioned quick boiling, easy operation, a clear gauge, the push-to-open lid, illumination and lower noise than a previous kettle. Those comments are useful for identifying ownership themes, but they do not establish a measured boil time, a noise level or long-term durability. The score should therefore be read as mixed-positive evidence rather than a guarantee of uniform experience.
What is the warranty and what does it mean for buyers?
Sunbeam lists a 12-month replacement warranty, and CHOICE records a one-year warranty. “Replacement” is an important wording detail: the documented promise is a replacement warranty, not a multi-year repair or parts program. Keep the receipt and model information, and check the terms that apply to your Australian purchase if a fault develops.

The retailer information also identifies the kettle as not intended for commercial use. A home kitchen, apartment or office break room used in an ordinary domestic way fits the stated positioning; a café, restaurant or other high-volume operation does not. Commercial buyers should choose equipment with an explicitly commercial duty rating and warranty.

How much does the KEM8007 cost?
Sunbeam’s Australian page showed AUD 179 at the time of checking. That is a time-sensitive listing price, not a permanent recommended street price. Retailer prices, promotions and stock can change, and the white KEM8007WH and black KEM8007BK may not be available at the same price.
Evaluate the price against the features you will actually use. The premium is easiest to justify if the metal styling, illumination, large capacity and easy lid matter to you. It is harder to justify if you only need the lowest-cost way to boil one or two cups or if variable-temperature control is essential, because those priorities are not documented on this model.
What are the KEM8007’s main strengths and weaknesses?
| Strength | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Full 1.7 L capacity | Handles several cups or a larger cooking-water batch without repeated refills. |
| Metal Kyoto-inspired design | Provides a more distinctive appearance than a basic plastic jug. |
| Illumination and water window | Makes the operating state and fill level easier to see. |
| Push-button lid | Allows one-handed opening while filling. |
| Cordless 360-degree base | Supports either-handed placement and tidier serving. |
| Clear one-year replacement warranty | Sets a defined baseline for Australian household buyers. |
| Limitation | Practical consequence |
|---|---|
| No documented variable-temperature presets | Not ideal for precision tea brewing or holding water below boiling. |
| No controlled noise or boil-time data | Claims about quietness or speed must remain qualified. |
| Metal surfaces heat up | Requires careful handling immediately after boiling. |
| Household-only positioning | Not the appropriate choice for commercial kitchens or heavy-duty service. |
| 12-month replacement warranty | Shorter than warranties offered by some appliances and limited to the stated terms. |
| Price and stock can change | Verify the current Australian listing and exact colour before buying. |
Who should buy the Sunbeam Kyoto KEM8007?
Choose it if your priorities line up with most of the following:
- You want a full-size 1.7 L kettle for a household rather than a travel or single-cup appliance.
- You prefer a metal, minimalist appearance and appreciate the illuminated operating light.
- You want a push-button lid, visible water level and a base that accepts the jug from any direction.
- You mainly need fully boiled water and do not require selectable temperatures.
- You are buying for normal domestic use and are comfortable with a 12-month replacement warranty.
Look elsewhere if any of these are deal-breakers:
- You need reliable 80–95 °C settings, temperature holding or a digital temperature display.
- You require independently measured low noise or a verified boil-time benchmark.
- You need a commercial-duty kettle for continuous service.
- You have very limited bench clearance or difficulty lifting a full metal jug.
- You want a longer documented warranty or a lower-cost basic kettle.
How should you compare it with another kettle?
Compare the KEM8007 on the features that affect your use, not on styling alone. The table below gives a practical checklist for evaluating another model without assuming that a higher wattage or a larger number of buttons automatically means better performance.

Is the Sunbeam Kyoto KEM8007 worth buying?
The KEM8007 is worth considering when design, visibility and everyday capacity matter more than advanced brewing controls. Its 1.7 L metal jug, glow illumination, clear water gauge, push-button lid and cordless 360-degree base form a coherent set of household features, and the documented one-year replacement warranty gives Australian buyers a clear minimum commitment.

- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
It is not a universal recommendation. The absence of documented temperature presets rules it out for precision tea preparation, the available evidence cannot prove that it is especially quiet or fast, and the household-only positioning limits where it should be used. Buy it for attractive, uncomplicated boiling at home; skip it when temperature precision, commercial durability or independently measured performance is your main requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do the listed and measured weights differ?
Sunbeam lists 1.17 kg, while CHOICE records 1.12 kg in its specification panel. A five-gram difference can arise from measurement method or the exact sample, so it is not evidence of a different capacity or performance level.
Where is the Sunbeam Kyoto KEM8007 made?
CHOICE lists China as the country of origin. Sunbeam’s key product summary does not foreground that detail, so check the packaging if country-of-origin information is important for your purchase.
