U.S. stock futures were nearly flat Thursday evening, October 22, 2026, after a technology-led sell-off: Dow futures rose about 0.1%, S&P 500 futures gained 0.06%, and Nasdaq-100 futures slipped 0.1%. The session’s losses had been concentrated in technology stocks, with concerns about the scale and financing of artificial-intelligence spending weighing on the sector.
Why were stock futures little changed after the tech sell-off?
Futures showed little immediate follow-through after a sharp cash-market decline. Thursday’s close left the S&P 500 down 1.2% and the Nasdaq Composite down 2.6%, while the Dow finished marginally higher; by Thursday evening, futures for those indexes were close to unchanged.
The difference matters: the index closes describe the completed regular session, while the futures figures describe trading later that evening. These are October 22, 2026 historical figures, not live market prices for October 26.

Doubts about the scale and financing of artificial-intelligence spending were the report’s central explanation for the technology sell-off. The U.S. technology sector fell about 3%, and losses hit several large technology names.

The concern is not simply whether customers want AI services. It also involves whether companies building data centers and other AI infrastructure can obtain enough capital, and at what cost, to fund their plans. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said during the October 22 report: “There’s a scarcity of capital. The demand [for] the capital is much greater than the availability of the capital,”
That distinction helps explain why doubts about financing can unsettle technology shares even when the underlying demand story remains part of the investment case. Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research, offered a less alarmed view during the same report: “Taking some air out of the AI bubble is a good thing. I don’t think it’s going to burst and create problems for the economy,”

What happened to Nvidia, AMD and Alphabet?
All three named companies fell during Thursday’s cash session, with AMD recording the steepest decline of the group.

The broader index moves showed the same technology-heavy pattern: the Nasdaq Composite lost more than twice as much as the S&P 500, while the Dow was marginally higher. The figures describe the October 22 session, not subsequent trading.

Why did Treasury yields fall while oil rose?
Investors sought safety in Treasuries as markets absorbed the equity decline, pushing the 10-year Treasury yield down 18.5 basis points to 4.961%. At the same time, Brent crude rose 4% to $113.17 after reports about possible renewed U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Those moves point in different directions for markets. Lower yields can support valuations of growth-oriented companies, whose expected profits are often further in the future. Higher oil prices, if sustained, can raise inflation concerns and potentially put upward pressure on interest rates. The October 22 report captured both forces; it did not establish whether either move would persist.

As of the October 22 report, the S&P 500 was up less than 0.1% for the week, the Nasdaq was down 0.5%, and the Dow was up 1.7%. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq-100 futures?
The Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq-100 are different indexes, so their cash-session and futures moves are not interchangeable. The October 22 figures here report the Composite’s regular-session loss and the Nasdaq-100 futures move later that evening.
What does a basis-point move in Treasury yields mean?
A basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point. A decline of 18.5 basis points is a larger change than a decline of 0.185 basis points, and should not be confused with an 18.5% drop in the yield.
