The published weights are close in rounded terms—4.1 kg is about 9 lb—but “dry weight” and “listed device weight” are the manufacturers’ respective descriptions. They do not tell you the weight of a fueled, ready-to-cut machine. What cutting head and line does the FS 38 use?
The specified cutting system is the AutoCut C 6-2 mowing head with TapAction line adjustment. Regional STIHL information identifies the C 6-2 as standard equipment, and the applicable regional manual specifies compatible 2.0 mm line. A small, light-duty trimmer can feel manageable for spot work while still producing fatigue or discomfort in extended use. Fit, grip, technique, vibration, and the time spent working all affect comfort; the available weight figure alone cannot establish how it will feel for a particular operator.
