Many pages grew from 940 to 1,200 pixels wide, while game pages gained additional media-viewing modes and more flexible presentation for game descriptions. Search, recommendations, bundles, hubs, charts and news pages also received changes.
Why is the Steam Store wider?
Valve said it chose 1,200 pixels after experimenting with different proportions. Its stated aim was to show more content without making pages feel overwhelming or harder to navigate. The announcement also said Valve’s research indicated that most players do not run Steam or their browser full-screen, but it did not publish the study methods or a percentage. Valve’s announcement described the change as an update to many store pages, not every page.

The redesign first became available in beta to Steam client users who opted in, beginning in late August 2025. Valve announced the public release on November 7, 2025. The announcement discussed store-page changes and said similar adjustments to the Steam homepage were still to come at that time; the homepage should not be treated as part of this specific release.
What changed on game pages?
Wider layout and game media
The wider layout gives screenshots and trailers more room to display detail. The trailer and screenshot carousel added default, theater and full-screen viewing modes. Valve said the carousel respects users’ autoplay and audio preferences across those modes.

More flexible About the Game sections
Valve expanded developer options for the About the Game section. On many newer pages, developers can use larger, higher-quality images and richer formatting. Valve also described subtle changes to page backgrounds that allow more of the artwork’s color and texture to show through.
Which other Steam Store areas changed?
- Search results: Wider results with slightly taller rows.
- Bundle detail pages: More colorful backgrounds and larger content artwork.
- Recommendation pages: Wider layouts.
- Tag hubs: A common page width.
- Steam Charts and News Hub: More consistent styling.
Does the wider design adapt to smaller screens?
Valve said the pages are designed to shrink to fit narrower monitors, browser or client windows, tablets, Steam Deck and mobile devices. That is Valve’s description of the intended responsive behavior, not an independent test or a guarantee that the experience is identical on every device.

What the 1,200-pixel figure means
The 1,200-pixel figure refers to the width of many store pages in the updated layout, replacing the 940-pixel width Valve cited for those pages before the change. It is a page-layout measurement, not a recommended monitor resolution or a hardware requirement.
Developers have separate image specifications for store assets. For example, Steamworks documentation lists a minimum resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels (16:9) for store screenshots. Those asset requirements are distinct from the page’s 1,200-pixel width. See Steamworks’ store asset documentation for the developer requirements.
