To request a Steam refund, sign in to Steam Support with the purchasing account, open Purchases, and choose the purchase transaction. Select the individual game if it was bought separately; select the bundle if the bundle was bought as one transaction. Then choose the relevant problem, select I’d like to request a refund, choose an available refund destination, and submit the form.
The usual individual-game offer is a request within 14 days of purchase with less than two hours played. For a bundle bought as one transaction, Valve describes a full-bundle refund when combined use of all included items is under two hours and no item was transferred. Steam’s published policy does not establish a general right to remove only one game from a single bundle transaction, so ask Support about that specific case.

Steam’s refund policy page was last updated April 23, 2024. Steam can change its wording, eligibility screens, and button labels, so the account interface may look slightly different when you submit a request. The controlling detail is always the transaction displayed in your signed-in Purchases list.
How do I request a Steam refund?
Use the purchase-level flow in Steam Support. The transaction you select determines whether you are asking about a separately purchased game or a bundle transaction.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open Steam Support and sign in. Go to help.steampowered.com and use the Steam account that paid for the purchase. A different account, even one that has access to the same computer or library, may not show the transaction.
- Open Purchases. Find the charge you want reviewed. A separately bought game appears as its own purchase. Several products bought together in one checkout appear under the bundle transaction, even though your library may list each included game separately.
- Select the problem. Choose the support reason that most closely describes what happened. This routes you to the available options for that transaction.
- Choose “I’d like to request a refund.” The link opens the refund form associated with the purchase you selected. Do not start by selecting a library title merely because its name is familiar.
- Complete the form and choose the destination offered. Steam may offer Steam Wallet funds or the original payment method. The original-method option depends on whether that payment method can receive a refund, so it is not shown identically for every purchase.
- Submit the request. Steam Support says to expect an email confirming submission and a separate email after the request has been processed. Keep both messages until the case is resolved.
Describe the transaction accurately if the form gives you a text box. For a bundle, say whether you are seeking a refund for the complete bundle or asking Support to consider one included title. A clear description cannot create an entitlement that the policy does not state, but it helps Support understand which purchase and outcome you mean.
Do not select an individual library title on the assumption that it automatically creates a separate refund transaction. Start from the purchase shown under Purchases, then explain any title-specific issue in the form.
Should I select the game or the bundle?
Select the transaction that was actually charged. A game bought on its own is an individual-game request; several games bought together in one checkout are a bundle request. The library view is an ownership list, while Purchases is the record used for the refund request.

What are the normal Steam refund rules for an individual game?
For a Steam Store game purchased separately, Valve’s usual threshold is a request within 14 days of purchase and less than two hours played on that game. The wording is “less than two hours,” so reaching two hours is not the same as remaining below the stated threshold.
- The 14-day period is measured from the purchase.
- The playtime condition is tied to the game for which you are requesting the refund.
- The two conditions are the standard offer, not a published promise that every qualifying request is approved automatically.
- Valve says you can still submit a request outside those rules for review, but approval is not promised.
For example, a game bought eight days ago with 45 minutes of play fits the usual timing and playtime thresholds. A game bought 20 days ago or played for more than two hours falls outside the ordinary offer, but the Support form may still allow a request for review. Explain the circumstances rather than presenting the request as guaranteed.
Valve summarizes the policy by saying, You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason.
The important distinction is between being able to submit a request and being entitled to an approval.
How does a Steam bundle refund work?
For a bundle purchased as one transaction, Valve describes a full-bundle refund when no included item was transferred and combined usage across all bundle items is less than two hours. Apply the ordinary purchase-window requirement as the baseline. The rule is about the bundle transaction, not a separate entitlement for every game listed inside it.
Combined playtime, not a separate allowance per game
The two-hour condition is shared across the bundle’s included items. For example, 60 minutes in one game and 70 minutes in another totals 130 minutes, which is more than two hours. It is not a separate two-hour allowance for each title. If three games have 40 minutes each, the combined total is still two hours, not three independent allowances.
Check every included item before submitting. Briefly launching several games can add up, and the relevant question is the aggregate use of the bundle items rather than only the title you liked least.

Transfers can affect eligibility
Valve’s bundle rule requires that no included item was transferred. Review whether any included product was transferred before treating the bundle as eligible. If you are unsure what the account record shows, mention the uncertainty to Support instead of claiming that the condition is met.
Check the checkout disclosure
Some bundles can contain in-game items or downloadable content marked as nonrefundable. The checkout disclosure identifies those marked components. Read that notice when you buy and refer to it when you review the transaction; do not assume that every line displayed inside a bundle has identical refund treatment.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What a full-bundle request means
A full-bundle request concerns the bundle purchase as a whole. It is different from asking to keep most items while removing one game. Valve’s published bundle section explains the full-bundle conditions but does not promise that Steam will split the transaction or preserve the other titles.
Can I refund just one game from a Steam bundle?
Steam’s published bundle section explains a full-bundle refund, not a universal process for refunding or removing only one title from a single bundle transaction. If you want only one included game removed, select the bundle transaction and describe the situation to Steam Support. Ask what options are available for that specific purchase rather than stating that a partial refund is an automatic right.
If the game was bought in a separate transaction outside the bundle, use the individual-game route instead. That is a distinction between two different purchases, not evidence that Steam grants partial refunds from every bundle. A title appearing separately in your library does not, by itself, prove that it was charged separately.
When writing to Support, identify the bundle, state which title concerns you, give the total bundle usage as accurately as possible, and say whether you would accept a full-bundle review or are specifically asking about one item. Support decides what the transaction can support.

What if the purchase is missing from Steam Support?
If the intended purchase does not appear in the guided list, Steam Support says it may be too far outside the normal refund window. The absence of the transaction in the guided flow is not a promise that it can be recovered there, and repeatedly choosing unrelated library entries will not turn them into the missing purchase.
Check that you signed in to the account that paid and that you are looking under Purchases rather than only in the library. If the transaction remains unavailable, use any available support path to explain the purchase date, item, and circumstances. Valve’s policy also says that a request outside the stated rules can still be submitted for review, but the outcome is discretionary.
Where does an approved refund go, and how long does it take?
An approved refund is issued within one week of approval, not necessarily within one week of the day you submit the request. Submission and approval are separate events.

- If the payment method is eligible, Steam can return the money to the original payment method.
- If that method cannot receive the refund, Steam can issue the amount as Steam Wallet funds.
- The form shows which destination choices are available for that transaction. Do not assume that Steam Wallet is the only option or that every payment method can receive a reversal.
- The submission-confirmation email only confirms that Steam received the request; a later processing email reports the decision and handling.
If a week has passed after approval and the funds have not appeared, review the processing email and the destination selected, then contact Steam Support with the transaction details. The one-week statement is measured from approval, not from the initial click on Submit.

Gifts
For a redeemed gift, the recipient must initiate the refund process. If approved, the refunded purchase funds go back to the original buyer rather than becoming money for the recipient. The person who received the gift should therefore use the account that redeemed it, while understanding where the money is returned.
Separately purchased downloadable content
DLC bought separately has its own conditions: the request is generally within 14 days, less than two hours of base-game play has occurred since the DLC purchase, and the DLC has not been consumed, modified, or transferred. Valve notes marked third-party exceptions. These conditions refer to the separately purchased DLC and the relevant base-game usage since that purchase; do not apply this DLC rule automatically to every item in a bundle.
Pre-purchases and early access
Pre-release purchases have timing nuances. If the title was playable during early or advanced access, the relevant playtime can count toward the refund assessment. For an unplayable pre-purchase, the ordinary 14-day period starts when the title releases. State whether you had access before release when you submit an unusual pre-purchase request.
Retail keys and Steam Wallet cards bought elsewhere
Valve cannot provide a Steam refund for a third-party retail activation key or a Steam Wallet card purchased outside Steam. Those transactions were paid to another seller and must be handled with that retailer or seller. Steam Support’s purchase flow is for purchases charged through Steam, not a way to reverse an external retail sale.
How should I handle a request outside the normal rules?
Submit the request when Steam Support provides a route, then explain the facts precisely: the transaction, the date, the relevant playtime or bundle usage, and what outcome you are seeking. Valve’s Support FAQ states, Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can submit a request and we’ll take a look at it.
That wording confirms review, not approval.
- Use the purchasing account, not a different family or shared account.
- Choose the actual transaction rather than a library entry that merely names one included title.
- For a bundle, state whether you are requesting the whole bundle or asking Support to consider a particular included game.
- For a late request, explain the concrete reason for the delay without claiming that an exception is guaranteed.
- Keep the confirmation email so you can distinguish submission from the later decision.
What commonly causes confusion?
Confusing a purchase with a library item
Your library can list each game inside a bundle, but the charge may be one bundle transaction. Refund eligibility follows the purchase record and the bundle’s combined-use rule.
Counting playtime separately
Playing each bundle game for less than two hours does not preserve a separate allowance for each one. Valve’s bundle condition uses the combined usage of the included items.
Assuming submission means approval
Steam lets you submit requests outside the normal rules, but the policy does not promise approval. The confirmation email is not a refund decision, and the one-week processing statement begins only after approval.

Expecting a retailer refund through Steam
Steam Support handles purchases charged through Steam. A key or Wallet card bought from another seller is outside Valve’s Steam-purchase refund process.
Assuming every bundle item is refundable
A checkout disclosure can identify nonrefundable in-game items or DLC. Review those marked components instead of treating the bundle name as a guarantee that every included line follows the same rule.
What should I check before pressing Submit?
- Are you signed in to the account that paid?
- Did you select the purchase transaction, not merely a game listed in your library?
- For an individual game, is the request within 14 days and is playtime under two hours?
- For a bundle, is combined usage under two hours and has no included item been transferred?
- Does the checkout disclosure mark any DLC or in-game content as nonrefundable?
- Is the requested destination available for this payment?
- If the request is late or outside a rule, have you explained the circumstances without treating approval as guaranteed?
- If it is a gift, are you following the recipient-and-original-buyer arrangement?
- If it is DLC, have you checked the separate 14-day, playtime, and consumption conditions?
- Did you save the submission confirmation and note that processing time is measured from approval?
Examples of which route to use
You bought one game alone nine days ago and played 80 minutes: select that individual purchase and use the ordinary refund form.
You bought a three-game bundle five days ago, played 35 minutes in each game, and transferred nothing: the combined usage is 105 minutes, so select the bundle transaction and request a full-bundle review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou bought a bundle, played one included game for 30 minutes, and want only that game removed: select the bundle transaction and ask Support about the specific partial request. Do not select the library title as though it were a separate charge.
You bought a game from a retail website using a key: Steam cannot refund that external sale; contact the seller that accepted payment.
You received and redeemed a gift: initiate the request from the recipient account, while understanding that approved funds return to the original buyer.
What is the practical answer for your situation?
Use the Steam Support Purchases flow and select the transaction that was charged. A separately purchased game normally uses the 14-day and under-two-hour test; a bundle bought in one transaction is assessed as a full bundle with combined usage and no transfers. Steam does not publish a general partial-bundle entitlement, so a one-title request from a bundle must be explained to Support for case-by-case review.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Steam publish a refund approval percentage?
No published approval percentage or partial-bundle approval rate is stated in Valve’s refund guidance. Treat the policy thresholds as eligibility guidance rather than a statistical promise.

Does the two-hour rule apply separately to every game in a bundle?
No. For a bundle bought as one transaction, Valve describes less than two hours of combined usage across all included items. Time played in each title is added together.
Can I refund one game from a bundle and keep the rest?
The published policy explains a full-bundle refund but does not establish a universal partial-refund procedure. Select the bundle transaction and ask Steam Support about your particular request.
What happens if my original payment method cannot accept the refund?
Steam can issue the approved amount as Steam Wallet funds when the original method is not eligible to receive it. The available choice is shown in the refund form for that transaction.
How long after I request a refund will I receive the money?
Valve says an approved refund is issued within one week of approval. That is not a guarantee of one week from submission, and the submission email is separate from the processing decision.
Do early-access hours count toward a refund request?
Yes, playable early or advanced access can contribute relevant playtime. For a pre-purchase that was not playable, the ordinary 14-day period starts when the game releases.
Who receives money when a redeemed gift is refunded?
The recipient starts the refund request for a redeemed gift, but approved funds return to the original buyer. The recipient does not receive the purchase amount as their own refund.
What if my purchase is not listed in the refund flow?
Steam Support says a missing purchase may be too far outside the normal refund window. Confirm that you are using the paying account, then use an available support route to explain the situation; listing absence does not guarantee recovery.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAre separately purchased DLC and a bundle treated the same way?
No. Separately purchased DLC generally requires a request within 14 days, under two hours of base-game play since the DLC purchase, and no consumption, modification, or transfer, subject to marked third-party exceptions. Do not apply that rule automatically to an entire bundle.
Can Steam refund a retail key or Wallet card bought elsewhere?
No. Valve’s Steam purchase refund process does not cover a third-party activation key or Steam Wallet card purchased from another seller. Contact the seller that took the payment.
The Bottom Line
Start with Steam Support’s Purchases list and select the transaction that was charged. Individual games usually use the 14-day and less-than-two-hour test. A single-transaction bundle uses combined playtime, no transfers, and a full-bundle policy; a one-title partial refund is not guaranteed by the published rules. An approved refund is issued within one week of approval to an eligible original payment method or Steam Wallet.
