Meeting the recommended line does not establish a fixed FPS number because resolution, scene complexity and frame-time behavior vary. What should I change first on PC?

Change one of these settings, restart the same activity, and record the result before changing the other. Foliage reductions can make environments look sparser, while lower shadows reduce contact and long-distance shadow detail. Neither setting has a universally verified FPS gain across all PC hardware.

A July 17, 2026 community report said that setting World Level Detail to Medium improved that author’s frame stability. This is a single-user observation, not controlled testing, so treat it as a reversible experiment. It may help one configuration and do nothing—or look worse—on another.
Choose Medium, apply it, and compare the same route or encounter. Keep the setting only if it reduces hitching without introducing unacceptable pop-in. Restore the previous value if objects appear too abruptly or visual quality falls more than the smoother frame delivery is worth.
4. Turn motion blur off for a clearer image
The Steam listing documents motion blur options of Off, Low and High, along with field-of-view and gamma controls. Set motion blur to Off when camera movement looks smeared or when you prefer a sharper view. The available evidence does not establish a consistent FPS improvement from disabling it, so treat this as a visibility preference rather than a guaranteed performance fix.
5. Keep view-distance changes conservative
Community Unreal Engine 4 guidance warns that aggressive view-distance values can make objects appear suddenly or create other visual problems. - Record the baseline. Note your resolution, resolution quality, foliage, shadows, World Level Detail, view distance and motion blur settings. Describe the symptom as either low average FPS, brief stutter, or uneven frame pacing.
- Reproduce a repeatable scene. Use the same save, location and activity for each comparison. Avoid judging a change after only a menu or loading screen.
- Change one setting or one small group. Start with resolution/resolution quality, then foliage or shadows. Do not paste a large configuration block while also changing in-game sliders.
- Check image quality and stability. Look for pop-in, shimmering, missing shadows, texture glitches or crashes as well as smoother motion.
