The published specification does not identify the materials in all 12 layers, the exact dimensions beyond the queen size, or whether the model included a particular top treatment. Do not assume that two mattresses with the same height or spring count have the same construction or feel.

Is the Armadale firm, and what does that mean in practice?
Yes. CHOICE categorises the Armadale as firm. That label is a useful starting point, not a standardised measurement: firmness can feel different depending on a sleeper’s body shape, weight, sleeping position and the mattress’s condition.
For that reason, an old Armadale in a showroom or someone else’s home may not feel like a new one did. A used mattress may have softened or developed uneven areas, and even a remaining new unit has been stored for an unknown length of time unless the seller can document it. If possible, lie on the exact mattress you are buying in your usual sleep positions, rather than relying on a salesperson’s description or the model name.
Firmness also does not by itself establish whether a mattress will suit a person with back discomfort. A sleeper who wants a firm surface should still check whether the mattress lets their shoulders and hips settle comfortably without leaving uncomfortable pressure points.

How does the Miracoil support system work?
SleepMaker describes Miracoil as a continuous, Z-shaped coil system. The manufacturer says the continuous coil covers more surface area than regular spring systems and is intended to provide more even body support. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of the design, not an independent test result for the Armadale.

SleepMaker’s current Miracoil page lists Super Firm, Firm, Medium and Plush comfort options, with sizes from Single through Super King. The brand also lists a 10-year warranty for the current range. Those current-range details should not be transferred automatically to a discontinued Armadale: confirm the exact model’s warranty, size availability and terms with the seller before purchase.
SleepMaker says its Miracoil mattresses are designed to support two adults weighing 120 kg each, and that Miracoil Advanced mattresses can support two sleepers weighing up to 150 kg each. These are manufacturer statements about the ranges named, not independent capacity tests for the Armadale. The available data does not establish that the Armadale is a Miracoil Advanced model or provide a model-specific weight limit.
Does the Armadale provide good back support?
The available evidence is not enough to conclude that the Armadale improves back health or treats back pain. SleepMaker says Miracoil is endorsed by Sports Chiropractic Australia and supported by back-care professionals for spine alignment and back health; that is a manufacturer claim, not independent clinical proof that the Armadale will relieve pain.

In practical terms, judge fit and comfort on the mattress itself, and treat back-care endorsements as context rather than a personal medical recommendation. Persistent or severe back pain is a reason to seek advice from a qualified health professional, not to rely on a mattress claim alone.

Positive reviewers describe comfort, support and perceived help with neck or back discomfort. Those reports are self-selected owner experiences across the range, not controlled tests and not reviews of the Armadale specifically.
The negative accounts include one owner reporting that a pillow top became too soft and saggy after three months, and another describing progressive sagging over several years and a disputed warranty outcome. These reports illustrate the kinds of durability and claims concerns to ask about, but they do not establish how common those problems are or predict how an Armadale will perform.
Read owner feedback as a set of questions to investigate rather than a guarantee. For an old or discontinued unit, the condition and the seller’s written warranty arrangements matter more than a broad range-wide rating.

Is the Armadale still available to buy?

A showroom try-out is particularly useful because “firm” is not a universal feel standard. Spend enough time in your usual sleeping positions to notice pressure or discomfort, and compare a current model’s actual features and terms rather than assuming it is an Armadale replacement because it carries the Miracoil name.

How do you care for an Armadale mattress?
Sleep House’s SleepMaker care guidance recommends a quality washable mattress protector and keeping the mattress clean, dry and ventilated. A protector can help shield the surface from spills and everyday soil, but it does not resolve sagging, restore support or substitute for checking an old mattress’s condition.
Because CHOICE records the Armadale at 33 cm thick, look for a queen protector whose stated pocket depth is approximately 33 cm, then check the actual mattress depth and the protector’s elastic fit before ordering. A nominal size alone may not ensure the protector stays in place on a thick mattress.
