The Insta360 Luna Ultra is a premium pocket gimbal camera built around two camera modules, 3-axis stabilization and a detachable screen. It is most compelling if you expect to use both focal lengths, want to frame yourself remotely, or need recording modes beyond a basic walk-and-talk setup. Its U.S. launch price was $769.99, so the key question is whether those extra capabilities fit your actual workflow—not whether the headline specifications sound impressive.
This review assesses the manufacturer’s specifications and launch information alongside Digital Camera World’s hands-on review. It is not a first-hand test, and launch pricing is historical rather than a quote for today’s price or availability.
What is the Insta360 Luna Ultra?
The Luna Ultra is a dual-lens, gimbal-stabilized camera that Insta360 announced on June 10, 2026, with Leica co-engineering. Its design combines a primary wide camera with a second, longer-focal-length camera, plus a detachable touchscreen intended to support remote framing. That combination positions it for vloggers and mobile filmmakers who want more framing options than a single-camera pocket gimbal can provide.

Insta360’s June 17 launch announcement described 3-axis stabilization, AI-powered tracking, a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen and zoom of up to 12×, including what the company calls 6× lossless zoom. Those are manufacturer-described capabilities; the zoom figures should not be treated as equivalent to optical zoom across every lens or recording mode. The announcement also says the camera directly supports Insta360’s Mic Pro and Mic Air microphone systems. Insta360’s Luna launch announcement provides the launch-era overview.

Leica’s involvement is part of the camera’s positioning, but it is not a substitute for evaluating the results you need. A Leica Camera AG press release attributes to Marius Eschweiler, VP of Business Unit Mobile at Leica Camera AG, the statement: “With the Insta360 Luna Ultra, we are bringing the Leica image philosophy to a new form of mobile”. The source excerpt ends there, so the quote is reproduced only to that point. Leica’s June 2026 press release contains the statement.
What do the two lenses and recording modes offer?
The camera’s clearest practical distinction is its two different focal lengths. Insta360 lists a 1-inch sensor with an F1.8 aperture and 20mm-equivalent focal length, alongside a 1/1.3-inch sensor with an F2.0 aperture and 60mm-equivalent focal length. The longer view can offer a tighter composition without moving the camera as close to a subject; it also gives a creator another framing option when the camera is mounted or held at a fixed distance.
| Camera module or mode | Manufacturer-listed specification | What it may mean for a creator |
|---|---|---|
| Primary camera | 1-inch sensor, F1.8, 20mm-equivalent focal length | A wider view suited to showing the presenter and surroundings together. |
| Second camera | 1/1.3-inch sensor, F2.0, 60mm-equivalent focal length | A tighter composition when you want to emphasize a person or detail without changing camera position. |
| High-resolution mode | 8K, 16:9, up to 30 fps | Potentially useful when high-resolution capture is part of your delivery or reframing plan; it is not a requirement for every publishing platform. |
| High-frame-rate mode | 4K, 16:9, up to 120 fps | Offers a higher-frame-rate recording option for footage intended to be slowed in editing, subject to the mode’s actual image and workflow trade-offs. |
The specifications are published on Insta360’s Luna Ultra product specifications page, accessed October 21, 2026. Maximum resolution and frame rate describe available modes, not a guarantee that every mode will be best for every scene or that a platform will preserve those settings after upload. Before buying for a particular production, check the current manual and test the modes you expect to use with your editing and delivery process.

Is the Luna Ultra worth the price?
It may be worth a premium to a creator who will regularly use the second lens, detachable screen, stabilization and higher-end recording modes. It is harder to justify if you mainly need a camera for straightforward talking-to-camera clips and seldom change framing. The launch price makes this a workflow decision, not simply a question of whether the camera has a long feature list.

Insta360 said U.S. pricing started at US$769.99 in its June 17, 2026 announcement. Digital Camera World’s August 25, 2026 hands-on review reported Standard Bundle launch pricing of $769.99, £649.99 and AU$1,229.99. These are launch-era figures, not a live price check; current price, stock and regional bundle contents may differ. See the manufacturer’s launch announcement and Digital Camera World’s review for their respective pricing context.
Digital Camera World reports a weight of 233 g and 47 GB of built-in storage, with microSD support. Those are reviewer-reported specifications, so check the current regional configuration and manual before relying on them for a purchase or a long shoot. The review describes the Luna Ultra as premium-priced and asks whether its dual-camera system, detachable remote screen and other features warrant the premium over competing pocket gimbals. It is useful evidence of the buying question, but the available review information does not establish detailed findings about battery runtime, overheating, tracking reliability or image artifacts. Those should not be inferred from the headline or from the specifications alone.
A quick decision test
- Consider it if the 60mm-equivalent view solves a recurring framing problem, remote framing would make solo filming easier, or you know you will use the high-resolution or high-frame-rate modes.
- Think carefully if most of your footage is a single wide shot, you rarely need a remote screen, or the launch-level price would crowd out equipment you need more often.
- Compare alternatives by workflow: look at focal-length flexibility, useful recording modes, weight, remote monitoring, microphone compatibility, included accessories and the actual price in your region. The supplied specifications do not establish a direct model-by-model comparison, so no competing camera can be declared the better buy on this evidence alone.
Do you need the second lens?
You need it only if a tighter 60mm-equivalent framing is valuable often enough to justify paying for and carrying the two-camera system. The longer view gives you a different composition from the 20mm-equivalent primary camera, which can be useful when you cannot move the camera closer or want to isolate a subject from a wider setting.
Think through a normal shoot before treating the second module as an automatic upgrade. If you film alone, for example, would you actually switch to a tighter view for a close-up or a detail shot? If you mostly record continuous walk-and-talk footage, would a single wide frame already cover what you publish? The 60mm-equivalent specification establishes a distinct framing option; it does not, by itself, establish how often you will use it or whether its image will suit every situation.
The same test applies to the advertised zoom. Insta360 describes up to 12× zoom, including 6× lossless zoom, but those marketing figures should not be read as a promise of optical quality at every setting. Confirm the zoom behavior for the lens and mode you intend to use in the current specifications or manual, then judge it against the framing you need.

How useful are the detachable screen and stabilization?
The detachable 2-inch OLED screen is aimed at a practical creator problem: seeing and controlling a shot when the camera is pointed back at you or positioned away from your hands. Insta360 also describes AI-powered tracking and 3-axis stabilization. Together, these features are designed to support solo recording and moving shots, but the available sources do not establish detailed test results for tracking accuracy or stabilization under specific conditions.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For a vlogger, remote framing can matter as much as a sensor specification if it helps confirm composition before recording or while filming. For a creator who always holds the camera in front of them and can see the framing directly, it may matter less. The value depends on where you place the camera, how often you record alone and whether you need to monitor a shot while moving.
Do not assume that a gimbal removes every source of motion or makes every movement look the same. The camera’s manufacturer specifies mechanical movement ranges, and the quality of a particular shot still depends on how it is used. If your work calls for a precise tracking move or an unusual camera angle, verify the controls and limits before planning the shot around them.
What should you know about audio, storage and bundles?
Insta360 says the Luna Ultra directly supports its Mic Pro and Mic Air microphone systems. That is the clearest supported route for buyers considering external wireless audio, but support is not the same as an included microphone. Check the exact camera listing and the relevant microphone compatibility details before ordering.
The manufacturer’s store listing describes a Creator Bundle containing a Mic Pro transmitter, wide-angle lens, battery handle, carry bag, protective cover, wind guard, 1/4-inch thread handle and wrist strap. Contents can vary by region and date, so do not assume this is what comes with every Luna Ultra or Standard Bundle. Check the listing for your market and the exact bundle name before comparing package value. The listing is at the Insta360 Store Luna Series page.

Digital Camera World reports 47 GB of built-in storage as well as microSD support. Consult the Luna Ultra User Manual, version 1.1, for current requirements before choosing a card or planning a recording day around it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the Luna Ultra’s caveats?
The first caveat is price: at launch, this was a premium purchase, and the extra camera and creator controls only make financial sense if they solve recurring problems for you. A feature can be technically useful without being worth the added cost to a creator whose usual footage needs only a wide view and basic stabilization.
The second is that specifications cannot settle several important real-world questions. The cited hands-on coverage establishes a review context and reports price and select specifications, but the information available here does not document specific battery-runtime measurements, overheating behavior, image artifacts or tracking failures. It would be misleading to label any of those as proven weaknesses—or to claim they are not concerns—without a documented test or a specific finding from the full review.
The third is that launch details can age quickly. The stated launch price and announced retailers describe the June 2026 introduction, not the camera’s present price, stock or package contents. Check the current seller listing and the bundle details for your region if those factors decide the purchase.
Finally, the top-line video modes are not a complete production specification. Your decision should account for the formats and settings you will actually edit and deliver, the camera movement your shots require, audio needs, and the storage demands of your sessions. The manufacturer’s current specs and version 1.1 manual are the relevant references for details that go beyond the headline modes.

Who should buy the Insta360 Luna Ultra?
The Luna Ultra is best matched to vloggers, travel creators and mobile filmmakers who can point to a specific use for its second focal length, remote screen or higher-end capture modes. It is a less obvious fit for someone who wants the simplest possible camera for a stable, wide talking-head shot and would leave most of those features unused.
Before deciding, write down the three shots or workflow problems you want the camera to improve. If the tighter lens, remote framing and stabilization answer those needs, the system has a coherent reason to command a premium. If your list mostly says “better video” without a specific mode or framing need, the available specifications alone are not enough to establish that the Luna Ultra is the right upgrade.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where was the Insta360 Luna Ultra sold at launch?
Insta360’s June 17, 2026 announcement named the Insta360 Store, Amazon, Best Buy and select retailers worldwide, with some markets expected to follow later. That is a launch announcement, not confirmation that any particular seller has stock now.

Insta360 says the camera directly supports its Mic Pro and Mic Air systems, but support does not mean a microphone is included in every package. Check the exact bundle listing in your region to see what is in the box.
Can I use the Luna Ultra for slow motion?
The official specifications list 4K (16:9) recording at up to 120 fps, which offers a high-frame-rate option for footage you plan to slow in post. Check the current manual for any mode-specific limitations before building a shoot around that setting.
Is the Luna Ultra a 360-degree camera?
The sources describe a dual-lens gimbal camera and specify mechanical movement ranges; they do not describe it as an unrestricted 360-degree camera. If your shot depends on a full surrounding view, verify that the product’s current recording modes meet that requirement rather than assuming the gimbal provides it.
