Yes—you can finish a satisfying game in one sitting, provided you match the game to the hours you actually have. The most reliable choices in this list take about two hours, while longer narrative adventures run three to six hours. Nintendo’s 2022 roundup uses an eight-hours-or-less scope, but that is an editorial ceiling rather than a promise that every player will finish within eight hours. The completion figures below are GamesRadar+ editorial averages, so exploration, retries, collectibles, alternate outcomes and co-op decisions can extend them.

For the safest short session, choose Journey, A Short Hike, INSIDE, Donut County or Superhot. If you have an afternoon, What Remains of Edith Finch, Abzû, Firewatch and Pikuniku offer more room to breathe. Two-player groups should look first at Man of Medan or A Way Out.

What counts as a game you can finish in one sitting?

There is no universal definition of “one sitting.” Your available block may be a lunch break, an evening, or an uninterrupted weekend afternoon. Nintendo’s 2022 short-game roundup defines its scope as games that can be completed in eight hours or less, while PC Gamer separates short PC games into under two hours, about two hours, three to five hours and over five hours. Those are useful planning bands, not guarantees.

The times in this guide come from GamesRadar+ average completion estimates. They are not speedrun records, laboratory measurements or an industry standard. A player who explores every corner, retries a difficult puzzle, looks for hidden items or sees a different character outcome can take longer. Man of Medan is an especially clear example: GamesRadar+ gives it a four-to-six-hour range depending on which characters survive.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Use the shortest estimate as the minimum comfortable booking, then add a buffer if you dislike stopping at a checkpoint. A two-hour average usually means roughly one focused evening for a first playthrough, not a timer you must beat.

Which games can I finish in under two hours?

These five are the strongest choices when you have a tightly bounded evening. Their short runtimes still cover a complete journey, story or challenge rather than acting as a prologue to a larger game.

Journey — an atmospheric expedition

GamesRadar+ lists an average completion time of two hours for Journey. You guide a robed traveler across a vast desert toward a distant mountain, communicating without spoken dialogue. The game’s wordless presentation and deliberately cryptic world leave room for interpretation, while seamless online encounters let another player appear during your expedition without requiring conventional voice chat.

Choose it when you want a reflective, visually led experience rather than combat-heavy action. It is available on PlayStation 4, PC and iOS. Because the design is linear and compact, it is one of the safest picks when you need a complete ending before bed.

A Short Hike — relaxed exploration with optional detours

A Short Hike has a two-hour GamesRadar+ average. You play Claire, a bird climbing and gliding through Hawk Peak Provincial Park on the way to its summit. Nintendo characterizes the activity as hiking, climbing and soaring; the open park also offers fishing and hidden treasures.

The summit path can fit a short session, but optional discoveries make this a flexible choice rather than a strict two-hour appointment. Spend the whole time following the main climb for a brisk finish, or wander when you have extra minutes. The game is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch.

INSIDE — tense, wordless puzzle-platforming

GamesRadar+ gives INSIDE a two-hour average. Nintendo describes it as a narrative-driven platformer in which a hunted boy avoids detection and solves environmental puzzles. Its bleak atmosphere, precise movement and escalating set pieces make the short runtime feel purposeful.

This is a good fit if you want tension and forward momentum without a large inventory or map. Expect to retry some sections while learning the intended solution, so leave more than exactly two hours if you are unfamiliar with puzzle-platformers. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Donut County — a light physics puzzle about swallowing everything

Donut County takes about two hours according to GamesRadar+. You control an expanding hole that swallows objects from the ground; each stage turns that simple idea into a new spatial puzzle. The tone is playful, making it a useful palate cleanser after a demanding day.

Its compact levels make stopping between stages easy, but a single uninterrupted run is still realistic. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. Mobile availability makes it the most convenient option here when your “sitting” is not tied to a television or computer.

Superhot — tactical action where movement controls time

GamesRadar+ lists a two-hour average for Superhot. Its defining rule is that time moves only when you move, turning each encounter into a puzzle of positioning, aiming and choosing when to act. The minimalist presentation keeps the focus on that mechanic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pick it when you want action that rewards planning rather than reflexes alone. Failed attempts can add time, especially as scenarios become more demanding, so budget a cushion beyond the listed average. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation VR and Nintendo Switch.

Which games take about three or four hours?

A three-to-four-hour game gives you a fuller arc while still fitting a single long evening or afternoon. These choices differ sharply in tone, so mood matters as much as the clock.

What Remains of Edith Finch — a family story told through varied vignettes

GamesRadar+ estimates three hours for What Remains of Edith Finch. You explore the Finch family home and experience a series of bite-size stories, each using a different gameplay idea to reveal part of the family history. The changing formats keep the short campaign from feeling mechanically repetitive.

Abzû — a wordless underwater journey

Abzû has a three-hour GamesRadar+ average. You dive through an underwater world, interacting with marine life and ancient environments while the story is communicated visually rather than through conventional exposition.

The game suits players who want calm exploration and music more than dialogue or combat. Looking around for every creature or scenic detail can lengthen the session, but the main journey remains compact. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Firewatch — a conversational wilderness mystery

GamesRadar+ lists four hours for Firewatch. You play Henry, a fire lookout in Wyoming, and build a relationship with Delilah through radio conversations while investigating events in the wilderness. Nintendo also includes it in its short-game selection and lists a Nintendo Switch product entry.

This is the best middle-length option when character dialogue and atmosphere matter more than complex systems. The campaign is chapter-based, so you can divide it across an evening and a second short session, although a single four-hour block keeps the emotional progression intact. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Pikuniku — comic puzzles, writing and mini-games

Pikuniku takes about four hours according to GamesRadar+. Its offbeat writing, environmental puzzles and collection of mini-games create a lighter alternative to the more dramatic adventures in this time band.

Select it when you want a playful campaign with frequent changes of activity. Optional experimentation and mini-games can push the total beyond the estimate, but the main route is still manageable in one extended sitting. It is available on PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Which games fit a five- or six-hour session?

These are still short by modern single-player standards, but they need a deliberate afternoon or a long evening. One is built around branching survival; the other requires two players.

Man of Medan — a branching horror story for solo or co-op play

GamesRadar+ gives Man of Medan a five-hour estimate, with a four-to-six-hour range depending on which characters survive. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The survival-horror structure means your decisions and successful or failed quick-time actions can change who reaches the ending.

The game supports online or local co-op, so it can become a shared one-sitting event rather than a solitary campaign. Plan for the upper end of the range if your group discusses choices, misses inputs or wants to see more than one outcome. If you only need one completed story, accept the consequences of your first decisions instead of replaying immediately.

A Way Out — a six-hour prison-break built for two

A Way Out has a six-hour GamesRadar+ average and is designed for two players. Its prison-break story uses split-screen co-op, whether the two participants are playing together locally or coordinating remotely, and it mixes narrative scenes with short mini-games.

Both players should reserve the full block because progress depends on cooperation and neither person can independently rush to the end. The mini-games provide optional pauses without being separate campaigns. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

How should I choose a one-sitting game?

Start with the time you can protect, then filter by mood, player count, platform and tolerance for optional content. The table below turns the shortlist into a quick decision aid.

How can I make sure I finish before I have to stop?

Good scheduling matters as much as the advertised runtime. Use this practical setup before launching:

  1. Measure your real window. Subtract setup, meals, travel, controller charging and any fixed appointment. If you have 150 minutes door to door, do not select a game with a two-hour estimate unless you can tolerate running over.
  2. Add a buffer for your play style. Add time when you explore, retry puzzles, read every line or dislike leaving optional areas unfinished. The estimates are averages, not guarantees.
  3. Match the game to your energy. Choose Donut County or A Short Hike for a low-pressure evening, INSIDE or Superhot for focused problem-solving, and Firewatch or What Remains of Edith Finch when you want a story to carry the session.
  4. Check the player count before starting. A Way Out requires two players, and Man of Medan changes shape in co-op. Confirm that everyone is available for the full block.
  5. Use natural chapter or level breaks. Most of these games let you stop between scenes or stages. Avoid beginning the final stretch when you know you must leave in ten minutes.
  6. Decide whether optional content counts as “finished.” A first ending, every collectible, and every alternate outcome are different goals. Set yours before you play so optional discoveries do not turn a planned evening into an unfinished campaign.

What makes a short game take longer than its estimate?

  • Exploration: A Short Hike includes fishing and hidden treasures, and Abzû rewards looking beyond the direct route.
  • Retries: Puzzle-platforming in INSIDE and tactical encounters in Superhot can require repeated attempts.
  • Branching outcomes: Man of Medan can end in different character configurations, with the cited estimate ranging from four to six hours.
  • Conversation pace: Reading or discussing every choice in Firewatch or a co-op horror game naturally slows progress.
  • Replay goals: Seeing every vignette variation, mini-game or ending is a broader project than completing one first playthrough.

Conversely, a player who skips optional interactions and already understands a game’s conventions may finish faster. Treat the listed figure as a planning midpoint, not a deadline.

Are these games better than longer games for a single evening?

They are better suited to a single evening because their campaigns have a defined endpoint within a narrow range. That does not make them universally better: a longer role-playing or strategy game may be the right choice when you want an ongoing project rather than closure tonight.

The advantage of this shortlist is commitment. You can begin Journey, Firewatch or A Way Out knowing the main arc has a realistic finish line, while still choosing whether optional exploration or replay deserves another session. Nintendo’s own wording captures the distinction: these games can be finished quickly, but you do not have to finish them quickly.

How reliable are the completion times?

The figures are editorial estimates from GamesRadar+, and the publication date for that page is not shown in the available listing. Nintendo’s eight-hour scope comes from a 2022 official roundup. No independent statistical study or industry-wide runtime standard establishes a universal one-sitting duration.

Use the estimates comparatively: a two-hour title is generally a safer short-session bet than a four-hour title, and a five-to-six-hour branching game needs more room than either. For a hard stop, reserve extra time and choose a game with clear chapter breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the listed times speedrun records?

No. They are GamesRadar+ editorial average-completion estimates for a normal first playthrough, not optimized speedruns. Your route, retries and optional activities can move the actual finish time substantially.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which choice works when I only have a phone or tablet?

The cited platform listings include iOS versions of Journey and Donut County, and an Android version of Donut County. The other games in this list are listed for consoles or PC rather than mobile.

Can I play a short game across two nights and still keep the story coherent?

Yes. Chapter-based or vignette-based games such as Firewatch and What Remains of Edith Finch provide natural stopping points. For a more continuous atmosphere, games such as Journey or Abzû benefit from one uninterrupted run but do not require it.

What is the shortest option with online interaction?

Journey is the shortest listed game with seamless online encounters, averaging about two hours. Man of Medan adds explicit online co-op but requires a much longer four-to-six-hour window.
