Yes—if you want an inexpensive 50-inch 4K television that is easy to use, the Sharp HJ6725KB is a strong buy at roughly £299–£350. Its 4K QLED/LCD panel produces unusually well-balanced SDR colour, Roku TV is simple and app-rich, and Freely can stream most Freeview HD channels without an aerial. Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG are all supported, too.

The compromises explain the low price. HDR brightness is modest, the 60Hz panel has no VRR, viewing angles are narrow, sound lacks deep bass, Bluetooth is absent and occasional audio dropouts have been reported. It is therefore best for one or two viewers seated fairly centrally, casual console gaming and everyday streaming—not bright-room HDR cinema or high-refresh PS5 and Xbox play.

What is the Sharp HJ6725KB?

The HJ6725KB is Sharp’s 50-inch 4K Roku television, sold under the model numbers 4T-C50HJ6725K and 50HJ6725K. It uses a 3840 × 2160 QLED/Quantum Dot LCD panel with a maximum 60Hz refresh rate. HDR support covers Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.

Sharp equips it with three HDMI 2.1 inputs, two USB ports, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, optical digital audio, a 3.5mm headphone socket and a three-RCA composite video/audio input. The VESA mounting pattern is 400 × 300mm.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Its defining feature is the combination of Roku TV and Freely. Roku provides the app platform and menus; Freely supplies internet-delivered live television, including most Freeview HD channels, when your broadband connection is available.

Is the Sharp HJ6725KB worth buying?

It is worth buying when your priorities are a low purchase price, a 50-inch screen, simple streaming and balanced SDR picture quality. The set does more right than most budget televisions: Standard mode is relatively bright, Movie mode is accurate, input lag is low enough for ordinary gaming, and the interface is unusually straightforward.

Choose something else if your room has wide seating, you expect strong HDR highlights, you need 120Hz/VRR gaming, require Bluetooth headphones or want cinema-like bass from the built-in speakers. Price is particularly important: captured listings have ranged from £299.99 at Currys to about £350 elsewhere, with a former £399.99 price shown on one Currys listing. Check the live retailer price and stock before ordering.

How good is the SDR picture?

SDR is the television’s strongest picture mode. Standard mode measured 265cd/m², while Movie mode measured 235cd/m². Those figures are brighter than many inexpensive sets and are sufficient for normal daytime viewing, although they do not make this a sunlit-room specialist.

Standard mode is lively without looking wildly inaccurate

Standard mode covered 122% of the Rec.709 colour gamut in testing. It gives programmes a little more colour volume and brightness while retaining credible dark-scene handling. Skin tones and everyday broadcast material look natural rather than aggressively processed.

Movie mode is the better choice for accuracy

Movie mode covered just under 98% of BT.709. Its average greyscale Delta E 2000 measured 2.7 using a two-point calibration and 2.4 using multipoint calibration—below the commonly cited threshold at which errors become clearly visible. If you watch films or want the least exaggerated picture, start with Movie mode and adjust brightness for your room.

Viewing angle is the major SDR weakness

Colour saturation and contrast fall substantially at roughly 15–20 degrees away from the screen’s centre. The effect is obvious on a wide sofa: people sitting to the side see a flatter, less saturated picture. Position the main seats as close to straight-on as the room allows.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How convincing is HDR on this TV?

HDR works, but the HJ6725KB is brightness-limited. Testing reached 270cd/m² peak HDR brightness, so HDR highlights have less impact than they do on a more expensive, brighter television.

HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision are all supported

HDR10 can clip bright highlights, losing detail at the top end of a picture. Dark HDR scenes can also show a mild green tint. Dolby Vision Normal mode reduces the clipping problem and produces more nuanced contrast and warmer colour than standard HDR10 playback, making it the preferred format when a streaming service offers it.

Colour and tone mapping are better than the price suggests

The panel covered 96% of the P3 colour space in HDR testing. Dynamic tone mapping is a useful inclusion: it helps fit demanding HDR content into the set’s limited brightness range rather than simply crushing every bright area. HDR Dark mode recorded greyscale Delta E 2000 results of 1.4 (two-point) and 1.2 (multipoint), with a 2.8 ColorChecker result. Saturation Sweep was weaker at 17.4, so some highly saturated shades are less precise.

Fast 24p HDR motion can look slightly soft, and subtle colour textures may appear coarse. The result is competent HDR for streaming dramas and games, but not the bright, sparkling presentation associated with premium sets.

Is it good for PS5 and Xbox gaming?

It is good for casual and mainstream console gaming, but not for taking advantage of the latest consoles’ highest-refresh modes. Game mode measured 13.3ms input response, and the television can switch to Game mode automatically when a compatible signal is detected.

What you get

  • 4K resolution for compatible PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC sources.
  • Low enough input lag for responsive single-player games, racing games and ordinary online play.
  • Good colour and contrast in Game mode.

What you do not get

  • The panel is limited to 60Hz.
  • There is no variable refresh rate (VRR).
  • Rapid camera pans are less crisp than on a 120Hz gaming television.

For a console that will mostly output 60 frames per second, the HJ6725KB is a sensible low-cost display. If 120Hz performance, VRR or competitive latency is central to your purchase, look beyond this model.

How good are Roku TV and Freely?

Roku TV is one of the set’s biggest practical advantages. Setup is quick, the home screen is easy to understand and the platform carries broad global and UK streaming-app coverage. The supplied Roku-style remote is lightweight and plasticky, but its layout is clear and responsive.

Roku favours simplicity over sophisticated discovery

Apps and inputs are presented plainly, which is helpful for households that do not want a complicated television menu. Recommendations and content discovery are basic compared with more elaborate smart-TV interfaces. Pick Roku if you value predictable navigation; choose a rival platform if algorithmic recommendations and deeper content aggregation matter more.

Freely can remove the need for an aerial

Freely can live-stream most Freeview HD channels over broadband. That means you can watch supported live channels without connecting an aerial, provided your internet service is reliable. It is especially useful in rooms without an existing aerial socket or in homes where installing new cabling would be inconvenient.

Freely does not turn every broadcast service into an internet stream: channel availability depends on what the service supports, and broadband usage and reliability still matter. Keep an aerial connected if you need channels or reception conditions that Freely does not cover.

What connections and control options does it have?

Physical connections are generous for a budget 50-inch set:

  • Three HDMI 2.1 inputs.
  • Two USB ports.
  • Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
  • Optical digital audio output.
  • 3.5mm headphone output.
  • Three RCA inputs for composite video and analogue audio.

Bluetooth is not supported, so Bluetooth headphones, speakers and game controllers cannot pair directly with the television. Use the optical output, headphone socket or an external streaming/AV device instead.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

In addition to the included remote, control is available through the Roku mobile app. The television also integrates with Apple Home, Apple AirPlay, Alexa and Google Home. The lower rear section protrudes, which can make a wall installation less flush than the slim front profile suggests. Use a VESA 400 × 300mm mount rated for the television’s weight and check that the bracket leaves clearance for the rear connections.

How is the built-in sound?

Dialogue is reasonably clear, the overall tone is rounded and the speakers have enough power to avoid obvious distortion or crackling during ordinary programmes. That makes the television usable without immediately adding a soundbar.

Its soundstage is modest and bass lacks depth. Dense action mixes flatten when the speakers approach their limits, so explosions, orchestral scores and low-frequency effects do not have much physical weight. The optical output is the most suitable connection for a separate soundbar or AV receiver; the 3.5mm output is useful for simple wired listening.

How does it compare with similarly priced TVs?

The review identified three similarly priced alternatives. Their exact live prices and stock can change, so the figures below are the prices cited at the time rather than permanent recommendations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Model Price cited What to compare before choosing
Sharp HJ6725KB About £299–£350 Roku simplicity, Freely, balanced SDR, Dolby Vision, 60Hz/no VRR, narrow viewing angle
Samsung U8000H £299 Picture brightness and accuracy, smart-platform preference, viewing angle, gaming latency and refresh features, sound and connectivity
Hisense A6S £319 Picture brightness and accuracy, smart-platform preference, viewing angle, gaming latency and refresh features, sound and connectivity
Toshiba UF2653DB £349 Picture brightness and accuracy, smart-platform preference, viewing angle, gaming latency and refresh features, sound and connectivity

The Sharp’s differentiators are not a high-end specification victory; they are the combination of Freely, Roku’s low-friction interface and unusually even SDR performance at the lower end of the price range. Compare the alternatives on the features you will actually use rather than assuming the most expensive option is automatically better.

What are the main drawbacks?

  • Limited HDR brightness: 270cd/m² peak output restricts highlight impact and makes HDR less dramatic than on brighter televisions.
  • Narrow viewing angles: contrast and saturation drop around 15–20 degrees off-axis.
  • No 120Hz or VRR: suitable for 60Hz gaming, not advanced high-refresh console play.
  • Basic sound: clear dialogue but shallow bass and a small soundstage.
  • No Bluetooth: wireless headphones and speakers cannot connect directly.
  • Occasional audio dropouts: reported interruptions can be frustrating, particularly during streaming.
  • Wall-mounting clearance: the protruding lower rear section can make a flush installation awkward.

Who should buy the Sharp HJ6725KB?

Buy it if you want

  • A low-cost 50-inch 4K TV for streaming, broadcast and general family viewing.
  • Roku’s straightforward menus and broad app selection.
  • Freely live television without relying on an aerial, where broadband is available.
  • Dolby Vision as well as HDR10 and HLG support.
  • Balanced SDR colour and responsive 60Hz gaming.

Look elsewhere if you need

  • A wide seating layout where viewers sit well off-axis.
  • Bright, high-impact HDR in a sunlit room.
  • 120Hz gaming, VRR or the sharpest motion during rapid pans.
  • Bluetooth audio or substantial built-in bass.
  • A very slim, flush wall-mounted design.

What should you check before ordering?

  1. Check the live price: the set has appeared at about £299, £299.99 and £350, so the value changes with retailer promotions and stock.
  2. Measure the viewing layout: keep primary seats close to the centre line because the picture loses saturation and contrast off-axis.
  3. Confirm your live-TV plan: Freely needs broadband and does not necessarily replace every channel or reception method provided by an aerial.
  4. Plan audio: use the built-in speakers for ordinary viewing, but reserve space and a suitable cable for a soundbar if you watch action films regularly.
  5. Check gaming expectations: connect consoles to HDMI, enable Game mode or automatic switching, and accept that output is 60Hz without VRR.
  6. Check wall-mount compatibility: use the 400 × 300mm VESA pattern and allow room behind the set for its protruding lower section and cables.

Sharp HJ6725KB: final verdict

The Sharp HJ6725KB gets the fundamentals right at a genuinely low price. Its SDR picture is balanced, Roku TV is easy to live with, Freely is a meaningful convenience and 13.3ms Game mode response is perfectly usable for 60Hz console gaming. Dolby Vision support also gives compatible streaming content a better result than the price suggests.

  • Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
  • Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
  • HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

That recommendation comes with clear boundaries: HDR is competent rather than spectacular, seating must be fairly central, the panel is not a 120Hz gaming display, and the speakers are best described as adequate. At around £299 it is one of the more convincing cheap 50-inch choices; nearer £350, compare current alternatives carefully and buy it for its Roku/Freely combination rather than for headline specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Sharp HJ6725KB need an aerial to watch live TV?

Not necessarily. Freely can stream most Freeview HD channels over a broadband connection, so supported services can work without an aerial. An aerial remains useful for channels or reception situations that Freely does not cover.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I connect Bluetooth headphones to the HJ6725KB?

No. Bluetooth is not supported on this model, so use the 3.5mm headphone output, optical audio output or an external device that provides Bluetooth transmission.

Will Dolby Vision work from every streaming app?

Dolby Vision support is built into the television, but the format is only used when the app, programme and subscription supply a Dolby Vision stream. Otherwise compatible HDR content may arrive as HDR10 or HLG.

Is a 4K HDMI cable required for a PS5 or Xbox?

Use a cable rated for the console’s intended 4K/60Hz signal and connect directly to one of the television’s HDMI inputs. An expensive premium cable is not required when a properly rated, undamaged cable already handles that signal.

Why does the picture look different from the side?

The LCD panel’s contrast and colour performance fall noticeably at roughly 15–20 degrees off-axis. Moving the seat closer to the centre or turning the screen toward the seating area is the practical fix; a different panel design is the long-term alternative.
