If your Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition save is already on another Nintendo Switch 2, use Nintendo’s individual save-data transfer. The source and destination consoles must be online, use the same Nintendo Account for the relevant user, and be together during the transfer. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for that nearby-console method.
If the save is on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, no supported import method was verified. Nintendo’s transfer menu moves compatible Nintendo-console save data; it is not a universal file converter. Nintendo also says Switch 2 saves cannot be copied to a microSD Express card, so a memory card, USB cable, or card reader will not convert a computer or other-console save.
Where is your existing save?
Choose the route by identifying the console and exact software edition that currently contains the save. Nintendo’s official instructions cover compatible Nintendo software, while the game-specific listing confirms the Switch 2 release but does not document a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox import process.

What should I check before transferring?
Prepare both consoles before opening the transfer menus. These checks prevent the most common account, connectivity and overwrite mistakes.
- Confirm the software identity. On the Switch 2, verify that the installed title is Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, not another Tomb Raider game. If your old save is described as a “Switch save,” inspect the exact software title and edition before treating it as compatible.
- Use the same Nintendo Account. The user profile associated with the save must be linked to the same Nintendo Account on the relevant consoles. A different profile can prevent the save from appearing in the selection list.
- Connect both systems to the internet. Nintendo’s nearby transfer process requires the consoles to be online. Keep them close enough to operate the prompts on each system and connect their power supplies if the transfer could take a while.
- Install system updates. On each console, open System Settings and use the system-update option before starting. Menu wording can change with firmware, so follow the labels shown on your current software.
- Protect the destination save. If the destination already has a save for this game, decide whether it is expendable before sending anything. The transfer is not a merge operation, and an existing destination save can be overwritten irrecoverably.
- Know which cloud account you are checking. Save Data Cloud backups are tied to the Nintendo user and require paid Nintendo Switch Online. A cloud backup from a different user will not substitute for the correct profile.
How do I move a save from another Nintendo Switch 2?
Use Nintendo’s individual save-data transfer when both consoles are available. This is the direct route for a compatible save already inside Nintendo’s console ecosystem and does not require Nintendo Switch Online.
- On both consoles, connect to the internet and finish any pending system update. Sign in to the Nintendo users that correspond to the save.
- On the source Switch 2, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Send Save Data to Another Console.
- Choose the user whose save contains your Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition progress.
- Select the game’s save data from the compatible titles shown by the console. If the game is absent, stop and recheck the user, title and edition instead of selecting a different Tomb Raider game.
- Confirm that you want to send the save. Keep the source console on the transfer screen while the systems communicate.
- On the destination Switch 2, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Receive Save Data.
- Follow the destination prompts and wait for the completion message before closing either menu.
- Launch the game on the destination user and check that the expected profile, progression and most recent checkpoint are present.
Nintendo’s support instructions state: “Once sent, the save data file will be deleted from the source system.” Treat this as a move, not a backup or duplicate. Read the full Nintendo nearby-console save-transfer instructions before confirming the send command.

Can I restore the game from Nintendo Switch Online cloud backup?
Yes, if the Switch 2 edition has an available Save Data Cloud backup for the correct user and you have a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo’s game listing marks Save Data Cloud as supported; that support applies to Nintendo’s service, not to a Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox cloud account.
- Make sure the destination Switch 2 is signed in to the Nintendo Account and user that owns the backup.
- Open the game’s software menu from the HOME Menu. Highlight the game, press the + or − button, and open Save Data Cloud.
- Select the relevant user and inspect the date of the available backup. A backup made before your latest play session will not contain later progress.
- Choose the download or restore command shown for that backup and accept the warning about replacing the destination’s local save, if one appears.
- Start the game and verify the restored progress. Do not delete the local destination save until you have confirmed that the cloud copy is the one you intended to use.
If no backup is listed, check the Nintendo Account, user profile and membership status first. Cloud support for this game does not make a save stored on another company’s service visible in Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud.

Can I move my PC, PlayStation, or Xbox save?
No supported import method was verified for a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox save. Do not use Nintendo’s nearby-console menu as a conversion procedure: it is designed to transfer compatible Nintendo save data between Nintendo consoles, not to parse a Windows, PlayStation, or Xbox save file.
The absence of a verified method is narrower than a claim that imports are impossible. A publisher could document a game-specific migration feature later, but no Aspyr or Crystal Dynamics policy establishing one was verified for this release. Until an official game-specific instruction exists, the practical choices are to start a new Switch 2 save or continue the old save on its original platform.
Do not download an unofficial “converter,” edit files copied from a console, or provide account credentials to a service claiming to migrate the save. Nintendo’s published transfer path does not authorize those actions, and an unsupported file modification can leave the original progress unusable.
What if my save is supposedly from Nintendo Switch 1?
Verify the exact software before promising compatibility. Nintendo documents general transfers between Nintendo consoles, but the evidence for this article verifies a Switch 2 edition of Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition; it does not establish that an earlier Switch edition of this exact game was released.
Ask which product created the file, whether it was a native Nintendo release or a different Tomb Raider title, and which user profile owned it. If the source software is not the same compatible game identified by the Switch 2 system, the transfer list may not display it. In that situation, do not rename files or attempt a microSD-based workaround; seek a game-specific compatibility statement instead.

Will a microSD Express card transfer my save?
No. Nintendo says Switch 2 game save data remains in internal system memory and “cannot be saved or copied to a microSD Express card.” A card can store downloadable software and DLC, but it cannot carry the save from one console to another or convert a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The same limitation applies to a card reader, USB storage device, or moving the game card itself. These methods may help with software installation or storage capacity, but they do not perform save-data migration. Read Nintendo’s Switch 2 data-management FAQ for the current storage rules.
Should I use a whole-system transfer instead?
Use Nintendo’s whole-system transfer only when you intend to move the broader console environment, not merely this one game’s save. It is a separate process associated with setting up or migrating to a Switch 2 and has different effects on the source console than the individual save command.
Nintendo provides local and server-based system-transfer routes. Their source-data consequences differ: the server route initializes the source console and has a retrieval deadline, while a local route follows a different sequence. Read the current Nintendo Switch 2 system-transfer instructions immediately before choosing a route, especially if the old console contains other games, users, screenshots or settings you still need.
If your only goal is to move Shadow of the Tomb Raider progress and both consoles are available, the individual save-transfer menu is the narrower operation. It avoids moving unrelated content, but it still carries the source-save deletion warning described above.

What should I do if the save does not appear?
Work through the failure by symptom rather than repeating the transfer blindly.
The game is not listed on the source console
- Open the game once on the source user, then close it normally so the console has a local save to detect.
- Confirm that you selected the Nintendo user who actually created the progress. Saves are associated with users, not simply with the console.
- Check the title and edition shown on the HOME Menu. A similarly named Tomb Raider release is not automatically compatible.
- Install available system updates on both consoles and reconnect them to the internet before reopening the transfer path.
The destination already contains progress
Stop before confirming the receive operation if the destination save matters. Nintendo’s process does not combine two progress files; preserve the more valuable copy through an eligible cloud backup or by keeping the original console untouched until you have decided which save to use.
The cloud menu shows no backup
- Verify the paid Nintendo Switch Online membership on the Nintendo Account being used.
- Open the game’s Save Data Cloud screen under the correct user rather than a family member’s or guest profile.
- Check whether the source console ever uploaded a backup. Cloud support being listed for the game does not guarantee that every user has a backup.
- If the old save exists only on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, Nintendo’s cloud screen will not discover it.
The transfer stops partway through
Leave both consoles powered and connected, then retry only after checking the internet connection and system software. Do not erase the source console or delete local data while diagnosing the problem. If Nintendo’s transfer screen reports a specific error code, use that code with Nintendo Support’s current instructions rather than substituting a storage-card solution.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I verify that the transfer worked?
After the destination reports completion, launch the game with the receiving user selected. Check the save slot or profile name, campaign chapter, inventory and the last checkpoint you remember; these are more useful than simply confirming that the game starts.
Keep the source console unchanged until that verification is complete. Once the destination has the expected progress, enable or confirm Save Data Cloud for the destination user if you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online. Cloud synchronization is a backup measure for future loss, not a way to import the old PC, PlayStation or Xbox file.

What exactly is the Switch 2 release?
Nintendo Australia lists Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition as a Nintendo Switch 2 release from Aspyr dated October 23, 2026. That listing describes a 21.6 GB game file and seven included challenge tombs; the 21.6 GB figure is the Australian store specification, not a measured save-file size, and the seven tombs are game content rather than seven transferable save slots.
Because the listing is regional and the release is recent, verify your own Nintendo eShop region for its date, availability and download requirements. None of those storefront details creates a cross-platform save-import feature.
Which transfer route is right for me?
- Two Switch 2 consoles and one compatible local save: choose the nearby individual transfer. It requires no paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and moves one user’s save.
- No second console, but an eligible Nintendo cloud backup: use Save Data Cloud after confirming the membership, user and backup date.
- Only a PC, PlayStation or Xbox save: there is no verified supported import method. Do not follow Nintendo’s console menu as though it were a file converter.
- Moving every user and game from an old console: read the whole-system-transfer instructions and compare their source-console consequences before starting.
- Considering a microSD Express purchase solely for saves: do not buy one for that purpose; Switch 2 saves cannot be stored or copied there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nintendo Switch Online automatically upload every Shadow of the Tomb Raider save?
No. The game can support Save Data Cloud, but a usable backup still depends on the correct Nintendo user, an active paid membership and a completed upload. Check the backup date in the game’s Save Data Cloud screen before relying on it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan I transfer the save to a different Nintendo Account?
Nintendo’s nearby save-transfer flow is tied to the relevant user and account, so it is not a general account-to-account merge tool. If the destination uses another account, the save may not be offered for selection; confirm account ownership before beginning.
Do I need the game installed on both Switch 2 consoles?
Nintendo’s transfer documentation describes moving save data, not installing the game. Ensure the destination can launch the compatible Switch 2 edition after the transfer, and use the eShop’s current regional listing for installation details rather than treating the save procedure as a software-copy method.
Is the 21.6 GB figure the size of my save?
No. Nintendo Australia presents 21.6 GB as the listed game-file specification. Save data is separate, stored in the Switch 2’s internal system memory, and Nintendo does not establish a 21.6 GB save requirement.
Can I keep playing on both consoles after an individual transfer?
The nearby transfer is a move: Nintendo says the source save file is deleted after it is sent. To play on both systems independently, you would need a separate, supported synchronization arrangement; the individual transfer itself does not create a duplicate.
