To add product variants in Bluehost AI Store, open your store from Bluehost Portal, go to Websites → your Sell Online plan → Manage Store → Products, open or create a product, then use Options & Variants → + Add Option. Choose attributes such as size or color, add their values, and save the product. AI Store generates the variant combinations, after which you can give each combination its own price, SKU, stock quantity, image, and availability. Use one listing for related choices, update variants as inventory changes, and delete options you no longer sell.
What is a product variant, and why use one listing?
A product variant is a version of a product defined by one or more attributes. Size, color, material, and style are common examples. Instead of creating a separate listing for every size or color, you keep the choices under one product page so a shopper selects the desired option before adding the item to a cart.
Bluehost describes variants as a way to offer multiple versions of the same product without creating separate product listings. That approach keeps related choices together and lets you manage the commercial details of each choice independently.

| Catalog approach | Catalog simplicity | SKU and stock detail | Customer selection | Maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One product with variants | One product page for related choices | Each generated variant can have its own SKU and stock quantity | Customers select attributes on the product page | Options and combinations are maintained in one editor |
| Separate product listings | More listings for the same underlying product | Separate records can be maintained, but related stock is spread across listings | Customers choose between product pages rather than options in one listing | Descriptions, images, and status changes may need to be repeated |
Bluehost does not publish a benchmark showing that one approach increases conversion or revenue. Choose variants when the items are genuinely the same product with selectable attributes; use separate listings when the products need substantially different descriptions, fulfillment rules, or merchandising.

Where do I find the variant editor in Bluehost AI Store?
Start in the Bluehost customer interface, then enter the store dashboard:
- Sign in to the Bluehost Portal.
- Select Websites.
- Open the relevant Sell Online plan.
- Choose Manage Store.
- Open Products.
From Products, select an existing item or choose the control for creating a new product. The product editor contains the Options & Variants area. Bluehost describes AI Store as a centralized dashboard for a WooCommerce-powered store, while its FAQ notes that the store can also be accessed from the WordPress admin. Product changes and CSV imports are available from Products.
How do I add size, color, or other options?
Use the following sequence for every product that needs selectable attributes.
- Open the product editor from Products.
- Scroll to Options & Variants.
- Click + Add Option.
- Choose an option type, such as Size or Color.
- Enter or select the values customers can choose, then click Add Option.
- Add another option if the product has a second attribute, such as color in addition to size.
- Review the generated variants and click Update Product to save.
The system automatically generates variants from the options you select. For example, adding size values and color values creates combinations for the available size-and-color choices. Keep option names and values short and consistent so the storefront selector is easy to understand.
What should I check after combinations are generated?
- Confirm that every intended attribute value appears.
- Look for combinations you do not actually sell and remove them rather than leaving misleading choices online.
- Open each variant and complete its commercial fields before promoting the product.
- Use accurate images when a color or style changes the product’s appearance.
Adding options creates the records; it does not replace the need to assign the correct price, inventory, SKU, image, and availability for each record.

Which details can I set for each variant?
Each generated variant can be managed independently. Expand a variant in the editor to expose its fields.
| Field | What to enter or select | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Price | The selling price for that specific combination | Different sizes, materials, or styles can carry different prices without creating another product listing. |
| SKU | A unique stock-keeping unit for the combination | Unique identifiers make order and inventory records distinguishable. |
| Stock quantity | The quantity currently available for that variant | Stock is tracked at the option-combination level rather than as one undifferentiated number. |
| Image | An image that accurately represents the selected color, style, or other difference | Shoppers can see the version they are choosing. |
| Availability | The availability setting for that variant | You can keep an unavailable combination from being offered while leaving the rest of the product active. |
Use a distinct SKU for every variant, even when two variants currently have the same price. A consistent internal pattern such as a base product code followed by normalized attribute values can make manual searches easier, but the important requirement is that each variant’s SKU is unique in your catalog.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →How do I edit an existing variant?
Editing uses the same product editor; you do not need to recreate the option.
- Return to Products and open the product.
- Find the variant list and click the caret beside the target variant to expand it.
- Change the price, SKU, stock quantity, image, or availability setting.
- Click Save.
Bluehost says saved changes are reflected on the storefront immediately. After saving, open the product page as a shopper would and verify that the selector, displayed price, image, and availability match the value you entered.
How do I remove an unavailable variant?
Delete a combination when you no longer offer it, rather than leaving an option that customers can select accidentally.

- Open the product and go to the Variants area.
- Locate the unavailable combination.
- Click the trash icon beside that variant.
- Confirm the removal.
Removing unavailable options keeps the listing accurate. If an item is temporarily out of stock but you expect to sell it again, changing its availability or stock setting may be more appropriate than deleting the combination; retain the variant when you need its SKU and product history for future replenishment.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Can I manage inventory separately for every size or color?
Yes. AI Store provides an individual stock quantity for each generated variant, so a blue medium shirt and a black large shirt can have different counts. Review these quantities regularly to reduce the risk of offering a combination that has already sold out.
Inventory controls in the product editor
The wider product editor also includes inventory tracking, backorder settings, and a sold-individually limit. These controls are separate from the option-generation step: first create the variants, then apply the inventory rules that fit your fulfillment process. The available fields let you decide whether the store tracks stock, how it handles backorders, and whether a customer can purchase more than one unit at a time.
Finding stock problems in a large catalog
The Products tab includes keyword search, status and stock filters, grid and list views, and quick actions. Status labels include Active, Draft, Low Stock, and Out of Stock. Use these views for a recurring stock review, then open products that need corrected variant quantities or availability settings.
What are the best practices for a clean variant catalog?
- Use variants instead of duplicate listings when the choices are versions of one product.
- Assign a unique SKU to every variant. Do not reuse the parent product’s identifier for all combinations.
- Use accurate variant images. A color or style choice should show the corresponding product whenever possible.
- Keep option names simple and consistent. Use one spelling and capitalization for values such as “Small,” “Medium,” and “Large.”
- Review stock regularly. Inventory changes outside the product editor should be reflected promptly so customers do not select unavailable combinations.
- Remove obsolete combinations. Deleting a variant that you no longer sell prevents a dead choice from remaining in the selector.
- Save in small, verifiable changes. After adding options or editing stock, check the storefront immediately because Bluehost states that saved changes appear there at once.
What other catalog tools are available alongside variants?
Variant creation happens in the product editor, but the same catalog area supports related merchandising and operations.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should I troubleshoot a variant that looks wrong?
The option does not appear
Reopen the product and confirm that the value was added under Options & Variants, then click Update Product. If the value was added but its combination is not intended for sale, check whether that generated variant was removed or marked unavailable.
The price or SKU is incorrect
Expand the exact combination with its caret instead of editing the parent product’s general fields. Correct the value, click Save, and verify the storefront display and the order record using the variant’s unique SKU.
The storefront still shows an old value
Confirm that the save action completed, then reload the product page and check the selected option. Bluehost’s documentation says saved changes are reflected immediately; if the page still shows the previous value, inspect the product again in Products to determine whether the edit was saved to the intended variant.
A combination is available even though it cannot ship
Open that combination and change its availability or stock setting. If you will never sell it, remove it with the trash icon and confirm the deletion so it no longer appears as a selectable option.

What is the practical workflow for ongoing maintenance?
- Create one product record and add only the attributes customers genuinely need.
- Review every generated combination and assign its SKU, price, image, stock, and availability.
- Publish or update the product, then test the selector on the storefront.
- Use the Products tab’s stock and status filters during routine inventory checks.
- Adjust quantities and availability as stock changes; delete combinations that are permanently discontinued.
- Use CSV import or channel listings when catalog operations require them, without relying on those tools to create the initial option structure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I import product variants with a CSV file?
The Products area supports CSV import, so it can be useful for bulk catalog work. Bluehost’s published guidance does not specify a universal CSV column layout for variant combinations; check the import screen’s current field requirements and verify the generated variants after the upload.
Do Google Shopping and Meta Catalog listings create variants automatically?
No. Channel listings are separate catalog-distribution settings in the product editor. Create and verify the product’s options and variant records first, then configure the channels where you want that product represented.
What SKU format should I use for size-and-color combinations?
Use a predictable, unique pattern that identifies the parent product and each attribute value, such as a product code followed by abbreviated size and color. The exact pattern is your store’s choice; consistency matters more than a particular abbreviation.
How can I audit a large catalog without opening every product?
Start in Products with keyword search and the stock or status filters, then switch between list and grid views or use quick actions to narrow the work. Open individual products only for the variants that appear low stock, out of stock, draft, or otherwise need correction.
