Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance’s joint audio-and-video generation model for clips up to 30 seconds. You can prompt it with text, images, video, or audio, then extend, edit, or guide the result with references. The official BytePlus API is asynchronous: submit a task, wait by polling or webhook, and download the finished file from content.video_url.
There is no single fixed “price per video.” BytePlus bills completion tokens, with published rates from $6.40 to $11.70 per million tokens depending on resolution and whether video input is used. Gateways that expose the same token model and providers that charge per second therefore need to be compared on the same duration, resolution, and input workload.
What is the Seedance 2.5 API?
Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance’s model for synchronized video and audio generation. Its main use is producing short, directed scenes rather than silent image-to-video clips that require a separate soundtrack. The model supports text-to-video, reference-driven generation, editing, and continuation of an existing sequence.
The official product description emphasizes 30-second storytelling, precise reference control, white-model control, and green-screen editing. A clip can be extended twice, allowing a longer narrative to be built from successive generations instead of one very long request.

What inputs can it use?
The BytePlus API accepts text, image, video, and audio content items. Dreamina’s Seedance 2.5 interface allows 1–30 reference images or up to 10 reference videos; the combined duration of those videos cannot exceed 30 seconds. Keep those limits in your request planner because adding references can change both the result and the token bill.
How much does Seedance 2.5 cost?
BytePlus publishes token rates, not a universal charge for a five-, ten-, or thirty-second clip. The estimated price is the applicable per-million-token rate multiplied by the task’s completion-token usage. The completed response reports that usage in usage.completion_tokens.
| BytePlus output | Video input | Published rate (2026) | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 480p or 720p | No | $10.70 per million tokens | Text/image/audio-led generation without a video reference |
| 480p or 720p | Yes | $6.40 per million tokens | Generation that includes video input |
| 1080p | No | $11.70 per million tokens | Higher-resolution generation without a video reference |
| 1080p | Yes | $7.00 per million tokens | Higher-resolution generation with a video reference |
For example, 500,000 completion tokens at the 480p/720p no-video rate would be 0.5 × $10.70, or $5.35. That is an illustration of the formula, not a promise that a particular duration consumes 500,000 tokens. Duration, references, quality settings, and generation mode determine actual usage.

Yes. When draft mode is used, BytePlus bills the draft and final steps separately. Include both usage records when calculating the cost of an iteration; otherwise a draft-heavy workflow will appear cheaper than it really is.
How do alternative providers charge?
Published units differ, so a lower-looking number is not automatically a lower cost for your workload.

| Provider | Published unit | Published figures | What you still need to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| BytePlus | Completion tokens | $6.40–$11.70 per million tokens, depending on video input and resolution | Token consumption for your prompts, references, duration, and mode |
| Vercel AI Gateway | Generated tokens | $10.70 per million generated tokens | Whether its token accounting and model options match your intended Seedance request |
| PiAPI | Video seconds | $0.15/sec at 480p; $0.35/sec at 720p; $0.80/sec at 1080p | Any account, storage, queue, or feature charges attached to the per-second quote |
Using PiAPI’s published per-second figures, a five-second clip would be $0.75 at 480p, $1.75 at 720p, or $4.00 at 1080p; ten seconds would be $1.50, $3.50, or $8.00; and thirty seconds would be $4.50, $10.50, or $24.00. These calculations apply only to the stated per-second rates. You cannot derive an equivalent BytePlus price without the task’s completion-token count.
Before procurement, price the same five-, ten-, and thirty-second scenarios at each provider, using the same resolution, reference inputs, audio setting, and editing or extension steps. Record the returned usage rather than comparing headline units.

What happens during editing and extension?
Editing, extension, and first-frame or first-and-last-frame workflows use adaptive ratio behavior. The output duration remains approximately aligned with the selected input during editing, and the API may require duration=-1 for that mode. Do not assume that a generic four-to-thirty-second duration setting will override an input video’s timing.
How do I call the official BytePlus API?
The official workflow is asynchronous. You create a task, receive its identifier, monitor the task until it succeeds, and then download the URL returned in the task content.

- Prepare credentials and inputs. Create a BytePlus API key and select the Seedance 2.5 model ID
dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628. Keep reference files reachable by the method required by your account and current API schema. - Submit a task. Send a Bearer-authenticated
POSTrequest to https://ark.ap-southeast.bytepluses.com/api/v3/contents/generations/tasks. - Save the task ID. The create response includes an identifier. Persist it with your prompt, input references, and application job ID so a worker can resume after a restart.
- Poll or register a webhook. Poll
GET /contents/generations/tasks/{id}or configure the documented webhook. Continue until the status issucceededor the service reports a terminal failure. - Download the result. When the task succeeds, read
content.video_url, download the file to your own storage, and associate it with the original job record.
What does a minimal request look like?
The following is a representative JSON shape showing the model and the principal controls. Match the current BytePlus content-item schema for your account before sending production traffic.
curl -X POST "https://ark.ap-southeast.bytepluses.com/api/v3/contents/generations/tasks"
-H "Authorization: Bearer $BYTEPLUS_API_KEY"
-H "Content-Type: application/json"
-d '{
"model": "dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628",
"content": [
{"type": "text", "text": "A slow camera move through a rain-soaked neon market"}
],
"generate_audio": true,
"ratio": "16:9",
"duration": 10,
"watermark": false
}'
For an image, video, or audio reference, add the corresponding content item rather than placing a local file path in the prompt. The API’s accepted item fields and media-hosting requirements should be taken from the version enabled for your project.
How should polling be implemented?
Use a bounded interval with a deadline rather than an unending tight loop. Store the last status, back off between requests, and treat a network timeout as an unknown state: query the same task again before creating a replacement. A webhook is preferable for a high-volume service because workers do not need to hold open polling schedules, but you should still verify the task ID and final status before downloading.
How do audio, watermark, and references affect production decisions?
Audio synchronization
With generate_audio=true, Seedance 2.5 generates audio synchronized to the scene. Set it to false when a production already has a narrator, music bed, or sound-design pipeline; the returned video will be silent and can be mixed later.
Watermark handling
The watermark parameter controls the AI-generated watermark. Treat that as a delivery requirement, not a cosmetic afterthought: confirm whether the selected setting is allowed for your intended publication and whether downstream providers add their own mark.

Reference planning
References improve continuity and identity control but increase request complexity. Keep image references within the documented 1–30 range, keep video references to no more than 10 files and 30 seconds in total, and test representative combinations because token use and visual adherence can change with each addition.
Which Seedance 2.5 provider should you choose?
Choose BytePlus when direct access to the official asynchronous API, public technical documentation, and token-level usage reporting matter most. A gateway can be convenient if your application already standardizes authentication and model calls there. A per-second provider is easier to budget when your team needs a predictable duration-based estimate, but verify that its feature set matches Seedance 2.5 rather than assuming every control is exposed.

Ask each provider for retention, geographic processing, account activation, concurrency, failure handling, and downloadable-format terms before committing customer media. Those operational terms can outweigh a small difference in generation price.
What commonly goes wrong, and how can you fix it?
- The request never finishes: confirm that your worker is polling the returned task ID, not creating a new task each time. Move to webhook notifications at scale, but retain a status lookup for recovery.
- The clip is silent: check whether
generate_audiowas explicitly set to false. Silent output is expected in that configuration. - The duration or ratio is ignored: check whether you submitted an editing or extension request. Those modes adapt to the selected input and can require
duration=-1. - The bill is higher than expected: inspect
usage.completion_tokens, include separately billed draft and final steps, and compare the input-video and no-video rate that actually applied. - The download fails after success: retrieve
content.video_urlpromptly, copy the file into controlled storage, and record the task ID and response metadata for re-download or support. - A reference is rejected: count image and video inputs, then verify that combined reference-video duration stays within 30 seconds and that each media item uses an accepted type.
What should a production checklist include?
- Pin the model ID and record the API version used by your deployment.
- Log prompt, references, ratio, duration, resolution, audio, watermark, task ID, final status, and completion-token usage.
- Budget with measured token consumption for short, medium, and maximum-length clips instead of extrapolating from one request.
- Download successful files to durable storage; do not make your application depend indefinitely on a returned URL.
- Set request deadlines, retry reads safely, and alert on terminal failures.
- Test silent and audio-enabled outputs, 720p and 1080p delivery, editing, extension, and reference-heavy prompts before launch.
- Obtain written answers on retention, region, activation, concurrency, and rights for your account and audience.
FAQ
Can I generate a clip longer than 30 seconds in one request?
No. The documented per-clip duration is 4–30 seconds. For a longer story, generate a base clip and use the model’s extension capability in successive steps, then assemble the resulting segments in your editor.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes leaving out the duration create a 30-second video?
No. If the duration field is omitted, the model selects a duration. Set an explicit value when timing matters, and expect adaptive behavior in editing workflows.

Is a token-priced provider always cheaper than a per-second provider?
Not necessarily. Token consumption varies with the request, while a per-second quote is tied to output length. Measure the same prompts, references, resolution, and audio setting on both systems before choosing.
Can I add my own soundtrack after generation?
Yes. Set generate_audio to false to request silent video, then add narration, music, or effects in your post-production pipeline. This avoids having to remove model-generated audio from a finished clip.
What information should I request before using a third-party gateway?
Ask for its exact Seedance model version, supported controls, media-retention period, processing regions, concurrency limits, and failure or refund policy. Also confirm whether its displayed price includes only generation or additional storage and transfer charges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the same Seedance 2.5 task ID after a worker restart?
Yes. Persist the returned task ID with your application job and query that task again after a restart; do not submit a duplicate generation merely because your local worker lost state.
Why might two identical prompts consume different numbers of tokens?
Completion usage can change with references, selected duration, resolution, editing steps, and draft-plus-final workflows. Compare the reported completion-token values rather than assuming prompt text alone determines cost.
Is 1080p always the best delivery setting?
Not always. It carries a higher published BytePlus rate than 480p/720p without video input and uses 10-bit H.265/HEVC, so confirm that your playback, editing, and distribution systems support that format before standardizing on it.
