To view phonetic lyrics in Apple Music, play a catalog song on an iPhone or iPad, open the full Now Playing screen, tap Lyrics, then choose Translation and Pronunciation and Show Pronunciation. Apple displays a phonetic rendering of the words so you can follow lyrics written in an unfamiliar script. The control is separate from translation and appears only when Apple has pronunciation data for that particular song and language.
What does “pronunciation” mean in Apple Music?
Apple Music’s pronunciation view converts supported lyrics into phonetic text. It is intended to show how the words sound, not what they mean. A translation, when available, gives the meaning in another language; pronunciation keeps the original words’ sounds but represents them in a reading-friendly form.
Apple says the feature is offered for select songs. Its provider documentation explains that machine learning generates the translation and pronunciation, with fine-tuning from language experts. Apple does not publish a coverage percentage or a song count, so the presence of the feature must be checked on each track.
How do I see pronunciation of lyrics in Apple Music?
On an iPhone or iPad, the complete path is Apple Music → play a song → Lyrics → Translation and Pronunciation → Show Pronunciation.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Open Apple Music. Use the Music app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Play a song from the Apple Music catalog. Start playback and leave the song playing.
- Open Now Playing. Tap the song currently playing in the strip at the bottom of the screen. This expands the player.
- Open the lyrics panel. Tap the Lyrics button.
- Open the language controls. Tap Translation and Pronunciation. The control may be represented by a language or text icon, depending on the current Apple Music interface.
- Show the phonetic text. Tap Show Pronunciation. The lyrics panel changes to Apple’s phonetic rendering.
If the lyrics are synchronized, the display can continue moving with the song while the phonetic text is shown. Apple’s documentation establishes the pronunciation workflow, but it does not promise synchronized timing for every track.
How do I return to the original lyrics or show a translation?
Stay in the lyrics panel and reopen Translation and Pronunciation. The same menu lets you change what is displayed.
- Hide Original: removes the original-script lines from the current view when Apple is showing an alternate text form.
- Show Translation: displays a translation when Apple has one for that song and language.
- Show Pronunciation: switches back to phonetic text when pronunciation data is available.
Pronunciation and translation are independent options. A song can have one without the other, so seeing a translation does not prove that a phonetic version exists.

How can I make Apple Music pronunciation easier to read?
Apple provides separate text-size controls for the original lyrics and the phonetic rendering.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then Music.
- Tap Larger Text.
- Choose Lyrics to enlarge the original-script text, or choose Pronunciation to enlarge the phonetic text.
These settings are useful when the phonetic characters are difficult to distinguish on a small display. Increasing the pronunciation size does not add missing lyrics or create pronunciation data for unsupported songs; it only changes the way available text is rendered.
Why is “Show Pronunciation” missing or disabled?
The control is conditional. If Apple does not have pronunciation data for the selected song or language, the pronunciation option can be absent or unavailable even though the lyrics themselves are visible.
| What you see | Likely reason | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Lyrics is missing | The track is not from the Apple Music catalog, lyrics are unavailable, the device is offline, or the song has not been downloaded for offline use. | Choose a catalog track, connect to the internet, or download the song and reopen Now Playing. |
| Lyrics opens, but there is no language control | Apple may not provide translation or pronunciation data for that song. | Try another song in the same language and check again while online. |
| Translation and Pronunciation appears, but Show Pronunciation is unavailable | Apple has no pronunciation for that specific song or language, or the feature is not offered in your region. | Confirm the song’s language and region support; there is no setting that can generate the missing data locally. |
| The panel will not load | The device has no connection, or the track is not available for the current playback state. | Reconnect to the internet, restart playback, and open the full Now Playing view again. |
Apple notes that translations and pronunciations may not be available in every language or region. Availability is also tied to Apple’s catalog metadata, so two songs in the same language can behave differently.
Does downloading a song make pronunciation available offline?
Downloading can help when the ordinary lyrics button is unavailable because the device is offline or the track has not been saved for offline use. It does not guarantee that pronunciation will appear: Apple must still have phonetic data for that song and language.

For a reliable check, connect to the internet before changing lyric modes. If the pronunciation option appears online, download the track and test it again without a connection. If the option never appears online, the limitation is probably coverage rather than the download state.
Which songs and languages support Apple Music pronunciation?
Apple describes pronunciation as available for select songs and says support is not guaranteed for every language. The company does not provide a public coverage list or a numeric availability rate in the cited consumer and provider documentation.
Use these practical checks:
- Verify that the track is an Apple Music catalog item rather than an unavailable local file or a source without Apple lyric data.
- Check the exact language of the lyrics. A language can be supported in some tracks or regions without every song receiving phonetic treatment.
- Keep the device online while checking. Offline status can hide the lyrics interface before you can inspect pronunciation availability.
- Try a second song in the same language. This distinguishes a song-specific data gap from a broader language or regional limitation.
Apple’s stated method combines machine learning with language-expert fine-tuning. That process improves consistency but does not mean every lyric, dialect, transliteration, or release has been reviewed or supplied.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs the pronunciation workflow available on Mac or Apple TV?
The documented consumer instructions establish the workflow on iPhone and iPad. They do not establish an equivalent Show Pronunciation path for Mac, Apple TV, or other Apple Music clients.

If you need phonetic lyrics for reading or practice, use the documented iPhone or iPad route rather than assuming that another device has the same menu. The absence of a matching control on a different client is not proof that the song lacks pronunciation data; it may simply be a platform difference.
What should I check before troubleshooting further?
Run through this short checklist in order. It avoids changing settings that cannot fix a catalog or language-coverage limitation.
- Confirm that Apple Music is playing the intended track, not a local file or an unavailable catalog item.
- Tap the bottom player to open the full Now Playing screen.
- Look for Lyrics; if it is absent, resolve the catalog, connection, or download issue first.
- Inside lyrics, open Translation and Pronunciation.
- Look specifically for Show Pronunciation, not only Show Translation.
- If the option is absent, test another song and check the language and regional availability.
- Once pronunciation appears, adjust Settings → Apps → Music → Larger Text → Pronunciation if the text is too small.
What are the practical limits of Apple Music’s phonetic lyrics?
- It is not universal: Apple supplies pronunciation only for selected songs and languages.
- It is not a translation: phonetic text helps with reading sounds; it does not explain the lyrics’ meaning.
- It depends on catalog data: a song without Apple-provided lyrics cannot expose the pronunciation menu.
- It depends on state and connectivity: offline playback or an undownloaded track can prevent the lyrics interface from appearing.
- It is platform-specific in the documentation: the cited instructions cover iPhone and iPad, not every Apple Music app.
- It has no published coverage guarantee: Apple gives no percentage or song total that can be used to predict availability.
These limits explain why the same language may work for one release and not another. The feature is a catalog service, not a general-purpose phonetic converter built into the device.
Can Apple Music pronounce foreign lyrics?
Yes, for some songs and languages where Apple has pronunciation data. Open the track’s lyrics and look for Translation and Pronunciation → Show Pronunciation; if that option is missing, Apple has not supplied it for that specific combination of song, language, region, and catalog state.

Bottom line: what is the fastest way to get phonetic lyrics?
On an iPhone or iPad, play the catalog song, open Now Playing, tap Lyrics, choose Translation and Pronunciation, and select Show Pronunciation. If the command is unavailable, check the connection, catalog status, download state, language, and region before assuming the app is malfunctioning.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple Music pronunciation change the way the song sounds?
No. It changes only the lyric text shown on screen; playback audio remains the original recording. Use the phonetic display as a reading aid while listening.
Why can I see a translation but not a pronunciation guide?
Apple stores translation and pronunciation as separate data types. A track may have a translated meaning without having a phonetic rendering for the original lyrics.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will changing the text size affect other Apple Music screens?
The Larger Text controls described by Apple target the lyrics and pronunciation displays. They are intended to enlarge those text views rather than alter the song’s audio or metadata.
Is there a published list of every language supported for pronunciation?
The cited Apple documentation does not provide a complete language list, coverage percentage, or song count. Availability therefore has to be verified from the pronunciation menu for the track you want to use.
