Scanpan Australia uses a different size-specific SKU for the same family—the 20cm pan is SKU 17600—so do not assume that every market uses identical numbering.

How is the Pro IQ 17602 constructed?
Scanpan describes the Pro IQ family as squeeze-cast aluminium cookware. The Australian product information says the 20cm variant uses 93%–96% recycled aluminium; the 26cm pan belongs to the same construction family, but the cited page does not publish a separate recycled-content percentage for SKU 17602. Squeeze casting forms a dense aluminium body designed to distribute heat quickly and evenly.
An aluminium pan alone would not work on an induction hob. Scanpan integrates a steel element into the aluminium base, creating the magnetic interface that induction requires while retaining aluminium’s light, conductive body. The cooking surface uses STRATANIUM, Scanpan’s flagship multi-layer non-stick coating, and the handle and trim are stainless steel.
The available documentation establishes the materials and design, not a guaranteed number of years before the coating wears out. Non-stick life depends on heat, cleaning, utensils and storage, and the manufacturer’s warranty excludes some forms of user-caused residue or damage.
Is the 26cm Pro IQ 17602 induction compatible?
Yes. Scanpan states that the Pro IQ range is suitable for all cooktops, including induction. That covers conventional electric and gas cooking as well as induction, so the pan can move between kitchens without a separate base or adapter.
On induction, the integrated steel element is the part detected by the hob. Keep the pan centered on the active ring and use a ring close to the pan’s base size; an oversized high-power zone can heat the empty edges faster than food. The published specifications do not state a minimum wattage, hob-brand compatibility list or maximum induction setting, so follow the cookware and hob manuals rather than assuming that the highest boost mode is appropriate for an empty pan.

Can it go in the oven, and what temperature is safe?
Yes, but the precise ceiling varies by market documentation. Consumer NZ records the 17602 as oven-safe to at least 250°C. CHOICE lists 260°C for its specification entry, and Scanpan’s US FAQ gives STRATANIUM cookware a limit of 500°F (about 260°C), including lids and handles.
Use the lower limit printed in your local instructions when sources disagree. Treat 250–260°C as the documented range, not permission to exceed the rating or use a self-cleaning oven. Remove any temperature-sensitive accessories and use oven gloves: the stainless-steel handle becomes hot even though it is safe at the stated oven temperature.

What are the pan’s measured dimensions and weight?
“26cm” describes the nominal rim diameter, not the diameter of the flat cooking base. CHOICE measured the 17602’s base at 19cm. That distinction affects how much food sits directly over an induction ring and how many portions fit without crowding.

The 1.1kg measured weight is substantial enough to feel planted on a hob, while still being manageable for most users. If you have limited wrist strength, compare the listed weight with lighter aluminium pans before ordering; the available data contains no separate empty-handle balance measurement.
How good is the non-stick coating?
STRATANIUM is the coating system used across the Pro IQ family. Scanpan identifies it as its flagship coating and recommends gentle cleaning and avoiding excessive heat. The public product pages do not provide a standardized release test, abrasion-cycle result or independent lifespan figure for the 17602.

That evidence limit matters when reading marketing claims. Consumer NZ lists performance, surface-durability and ease-of-use categories, but the scores are not displayed publicly. CHOICE confirms that it tested the model, yet its expert rating and test results are member-only. You can therefore verify the pan’s construction and compatibility from open sources, but not assign it a public numerical score or promise that it will outlast every competing non-stick pan.

At those prices, value comes from the combination of induction compatibility, oven capability, heavy squeeze-cast construction and a market-specific warranty—not from a proven public superiority score. A new pan sold close to its original list price should include a dated receipt and clear warranty terms. A discounted discontinued unit can be sensible if the coating is unmarked and the seller accepts returns, but a high “collector” price is difficult to justify when replacement availability is uncertain.
How should you prepare and use it?
Correct first-use and heat practices are the best way to protect a non-stick surface. Follow this sequence:
- Before cooking for the first time, wash the pan with hot soapy water and a nylon brush.
- Dry it completely before placing it on the hob.
- Preheat at a moderate setting rather than leaving an empty pan on high heat. Add food or cooking fat once the pan is warm.

- Use nylon or other soft, non-abrasive tools and scourers recommended by Scanpan. Do not drag sharp objects across the coating.
- When transferring the pan to an oven, remember that the metal handle heats up and that the oven must remain within the applicable 250–260°C documentation range.
- Let the pan cool before washing. A sudden temperature shock from a hot pan into cold water can stress cookware and makes handling less safe.
Scanpan specifically warns against aerosol cooking sprays. Their propellants and additives can leave a difficult-to-remove film, and spray-related residue or damage is excluded from the warranty terms described in the US FAQ.

How do you clean the Scanpan Pro IQ 17602?
The pan is dishwasher safe, but Scanpan says it recommends handwashing to extend product life. Handwashing also makes it easier to notice and remove a film before it becomes baked on.
Routine handwashing
- Allow the pan to cool to a safe handling temperature.
- Wash with hot water and ordinary dish soap using a soft nylon brush or sponge.
- For cooked-on food, soak briefly and use a soft nylon scourer; do not use steel wool, aggressive powders or harsh abrasive pads.
- Rinse and dry fully before storing.
When a dishwasher is unavoidable
Place the pan so it cannot bang against other metal items, use the dishwasher’s normal cookware cycle and remove it when the cycle ends. Repeated detergent, heat and contact can be harder on a non-stick finish than gentle handwashing, which is why the manufacturer’s recommendation favors the sink even though dishwasher use is allowed.
What warranty do you get?
Warranty length is regional, and the seller’s written terms control your purchase. Scanpan Australia states a 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Scanpan’s US FAQ describes STRATANIUM and STRATANIUM+ cookware as covered by a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects.

These are not interchangeable promises. Before buying, confirm which entity issued the warranty, whether the term starts on purchase or manufacture, what proof of purchase is required, and whether a discontinued model remains eligible. Keep the receipt and photograph the pan’s condition if you need to make a claim.

Choose a different model if you need a very light pan, require a replacement that will remain in production for years, or cannot commit to moderate heat and gentle cleaning. You should also compare the actual flat-base diameter if your induction hob has small zones or if you regularly cook large batches.
