You can find and save upcoming indie games on Xbox without buying them or subscribing to Game Pass. On a console, start in the Xbox Store’s Games > Indie Selects hub; then open a title’s Xbox Store page and use its wishlist option if one is available. You can also manage your account-linked wishlist on Xbox.com and supported Xbox apps. The important distinction: Indie Selects includes released games too, and a showcase announcement does not guarantee that a full-game listing is live or wish-listable.
The workflow is free apart from whatever device you already use to access the Store. A Microsoft account is the essential requirement. Game Pass, a paid preorder, and even an Xbox console are optional. The most reliable habit is to treat every announcement as a lead, then verify the exact full-game listing, platform, region, and current release information before saving or buying.
What do you need before you start?
You need a Microsoft account to manage an Xbox wishlist. Xbox says the wishlist can be accessed on Xbox.com, Xbox consoles, and Xbox apps for iOS, Android, and Windows. Game Pass is not required to save a title to the list, and adding a game does not cost anything.

Sign in to the account you actually use for Xbox purchases and play. If you have more than one Microsoft account, a title saved while signed in to one account will not automatically appear in another account’s list. A shared family console can therefore show different wishlists depending on who is signed in.

Before adding a game, check that the listing is for the full game you mean to follow, and that its platform and regional availability fit your needs. A trailer, showcase announcement, or demo page is not necessarily the full game’s Store listing. Release windows can also move, and an announcement can arrive before a Store page has been published.
How do you find and wishlist an upcoming indie game on Xbox?
Use the curated discovery hub to find candidates, verify each game’s own Store listing, and then revisit your wishlist to track saved titles. The wishlist option may not appear for every announced game.
- Open Indie Selects on your console. Open the Xbox Store, select Games, and look for the Indie Selects hub. Xbox’s ID@Xbox team described an upcoming-indie channel there for games players can add to wishlists. The live hub also has broader curated collections that include games already available to buy, so check whether a title is actually upcoming rather than assuming every selection is unreleased. - Open the individual game’s Xbox Store page. Confirm the title, platform, and regional listing. If the page offers a wishlist option, select it. Do not assume every game mentioned in a showcase already has a live Store page or a wishlist control.
- Review the saved list. Sign in to your wishlist on Xbox.com, your console, or a supported Xbox app. If a game is missing, check that you are using the Microsoft account that saved it and revisit the listing later.
What is free and what might cost money?
Creating or using the Microsoft account and saving a title are free. You do not need Game Pass merely to browse Indie Selects, open a Store page, or add a game to the wishlist. You may later choose to buy the game digitally, or use Game Pass if Xbox and the developer explicitly announce that title’s inclusion, but those are separate decisions.
A console is also optional. If you already use an iPhone, Android phone, Windows PC, or a browser, the web and app routes can handle the account-linked list. If you are choosing hardware specifically to play the games you discover, Xbox identifies the Series S as an all-digital console; that can be a sensible purchase for digital Store games, but it is not a requirement for wishlisting. A controller is relevant to playing on a console, not to saving a title online.
Can you wishlist an indie game without a console?
Yes. The wishlist is available through Xbox.com and supported Xbox apps, so a console is not required for saving or reviewing titles. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox wishlist, then open the wishlist to review your saved games.
The console route is useful for browsing the Store directly, but it is only one access point. The supported app list includes iOS, Android, and Windows; exact screen layouts can vary, so use the app’s wishlist access rather than relying on a button position that may change.

How can you tell whether a game is truly upcoming and wish-listable?
Use the game’s own full-game Store page as the check. A release window in a news post is useful context, but it does not prove that a regional listing or wishlist option is currently available.

Distinguish Indie Selects from the full hub
ID@Xbox helps independent developers self-publish; Indie Selects is Xbox’s curated discovery program. The wider Indie Selects page includes rotating themed collections and released games, so it is a place to find candidates—not a guarantee that every game there is unreleased. The US Indie Selects page describes its monthly curation as six standouts selected by the team at the beginning of each month; that is a curation count, not a count of upcoming or wishlistable titles.
Xbox’s January 2024 description said, “A new collection, featuring various channels and rotating themes, will go live every Wednesday.” The current page likewise describes a Wednesday rhythm, but a new collection can mix newly released games, older recommendations, and upcoming titles. Read the labels on the individual cards instead of treating the cadence as a release schedule.
Treat showcases as leads, not Store confirmation
For example, the October 20, 2026 ID@Xbox–IGN showcase recap announced Croak for March 2027 on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC, with a planned day-one Game Pass release, and Chronoscript: The Endless End for summer 2027 on those platforms. Those announced windows are useful search terms, but the recap does not establish that either full game has a wishlistable Xbox Store page today. Check the current listing and date for your region on the showcase recap and Store.
The same rule applies to any future showcase: a trailer can confirm that Xbox plans to support a game, while the Store page may still be pending, limited to a different platform, or unavailable in your country. Search the exact game name, open the result that identifies the full product, and compare its platform badges with the device you intend to use.

A demo can help you decide whether to follow a game, but it is not the same listing as the eventual full game. Xbox’s Indie Selects Demo Fest ran June 4–30, 2026 and featured more than 30 demos; it is a past event, not a current availability claim. Xbox cautioned that development-stage demos might differ from launch versions and that availability could vary by country. See the event announcement for that historical example.
If you enjoyed a demo, search for the developer’s full-game listing separately. Saving the demo, where that option exists, does not necessarily save the paid release. A demo can also disappear after an event ends, while the full game may receive a new title, release date, or platform listing.
How do you compare discovery routes?
Each route answers a different question. Indie Selects offers curated discovery and is useful when you do not yet know what to search for. A named showcase is better when you already heard about a particular announcement. The Store page is the decisive step because it reveals whether the full product exists in your region and whether Xbox currently exposes a wishlist control.

Do not confuse “featured,” “announced,” “demo available,” and “wishlisted.” They are four different statuses. A game can be featured but already released; announced but not yet listed; available as a demo but not purchasable; or listed and wish-listable without having a firm launch date.

How do you get Xbox notifications about wishlist games?
On console, Xbox documents release and Game Pass wishlist notifications under Settings > Preferences > Store notifications. Review your own settings to see which options are available; do not assume every account will receive an email or mobile push notification.
The settings include labels such as “Wish list items are released” and “Wish list items are in Game Pass.” Turn on only the reminders you want, and check the menu after a system update because labels and organization can change. A notification is a prompt to check the game, not a guarantee that a release date is fixed.
Do not treat a console alert as proof that the title is available everywhere. Verify the Store page, the listed platform, the price or Game Pass status, and the country attached to your account. Release windows and Store listings can change, so verify the current listing when an alert arrives.
What should you do if a game has no wishlist option?
If a showcase names an indie but you cannot find its full-game listing or a wishlist control in your region, there may simply be no listing to save yet. Recheck the game’s Xbox Store page later rather than treating the absence of a button as an account error or assuming a listing is guaranteed.
First, confirm the spelling and search for the exact announced title. Next, check whether you opened a demo, video, add-on, or backward-compatible version rather than the full game. Then verify that your Store region matches where you live. If the game is announced for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC but not for an older Xbox One model, the platform mismatch can also explain what you see.
Xbox also described a shortcut for adding an upcoming title to a wishlist directly from its Game Card before purchase was available. In June 2026, Xbox presented that feature as an Insider preview, initially for Alpha Skip-Ahead. It should not be treated as a feature confirmed on every retail console; see the Xbox Insider feature announcement for its preview status. The shortcut may move from testing to broader release, but a dated preview announcement alone does not establish universal availability.

How can you make the wishlist useful after saving games?
Use the list as a follow-up queue, then check the full-game listing when the game approaches release. Confirm its platform, region, and current release information before deciding how to play it. If a title has an explicitly announced Game Pass plan, treat that as the announced plan for that game rather than a general feature of wishlisting; Croak is one example in the October 2026 showcase recap.
- Keep the full-game page separate from a demo page.
- Revisit entries whose release window was announced far in advance.
- Check the listing for the platform and region you actually use.
- Use Xbox’s notification settings as a reminder, then verify the Store page rather than relying on an announcement alone.
- Remove entries that no longer interest you so the list remains a practical launch calendar.
- Before purchasing, compare the displayed price, edition, add-ons, and any explicit Game Pass availability on the current page.
There is no need to buy a physical edition or preorder simply because a game appears in a showcase. The announcements cited here do not establish physical releases, Amazon preorders, or a guaranteed price. If you are shopping for a digital-first console to play your eventual purchases, the all-digital Series S is an optional hardware choice, not part of the wishlist process.

Does adding an indie game to my Xbox wishlist preorder it?
No. A wishlist entry saves the title to your list; it does not place an order, charge your account, or reserve a copy. You still need to make a separate purchase if you decide to buy the game when it becomes available.
Do I need Game Pass to wishlist an Xbox indie game?
No. A Microsoft account is the requirement for managing the wishlist. Game Pass may matter later if Xbox explicitly announces that a particular title will join the service, but membership is not required to discover or save games.
What does ID@Xbox mean?

Why can I see an announcement but no wishlist button?
A showcase can announce a game before its full Xbox Store listing is live. The title may also be unavailable in your region, listed under a different product type, or supported on a different platform. Recheck the full-game Store page later instead of assuming your account is broken.
Is a demo the same as the game I want to wishlist?
No. A demo is a separate listing and may represent a development build. Search for the full game separately, and remember that demo availability can vary by country and can end after an event.
Can I manage my Xbox wishlist on a phone or PC?
Yes. Xbox says the account-linked wishlist is available on Xbox.com and Xbox apps for iOS, Android, and Windows, as well as on Xbox consoles. Sign in to the Microsoft account that saved the title.

Do not assume that. Xbox publicly documents console settings for release and Game Pass wishlist notifications under Settings > Preferences > Store notifications. Check the options on your own console; email and mobile push delivery are not guaranteed by that documentation.
What should I verify when a notification arrives?
Open the current full-game Store page and check the release status, platform, region, edition, price, and any explicitly announced Game Pass availability. An alert is a reminder, not a promise that the date or offer is unchanged.
What platforms were announced for Croak and Chronoscript: The Endless End?
The October 20, 2026 ID@Xbox–IGN recap announced Croak for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC in March 2027, with a planned day-one Game Pass release. Chronoscript: The Endless End was announced for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC in summer 2027. Those announcements do not, by themselves, prove that a wishlistable Store listing is live today.
Do I need an Xbox Series S to use the wishlist?
No. You can use Xbox.com or supported iOS, Android, and Windows apps. Xbox describes the Series S as an all-digital console, so it can be an optional hardware choice for playing digital discoveries, not a requirement for saving them.
