Zenith is live. Housemarque released the free SAROS update for all SAROS owners on PS5 on October 19, 2026. If your console does not show it, you usually do not need to reinstall the game immediately. Start with the tile’s Check for Update command, then work through the PS5’s network, system-software, storage, download, license and Safe Mode checks in that order.
Why the Zenith update should be available
Housemarque announced Zenith on October 19, 2026, describing it as a free update for SAROS owners. The announcement calls out Overlord Rush and new leaderboards. Sony’s SAROS page also identifies Zenith as a free PS5 update and lists Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers and new accessibility features.
Jirka Silander of Housemarque wrote, “Today marks the occasion for shedding light on our free update to SAROS, called Zenith.” The same announcement tells owners to download the latest update. That confirms Zenith is a released game update rather than a paid expansion or a limited-time test.

No official source specifies a universal patch size, a regional delay or a deadline by which every account must show Zenith.

First identify which problem you have:
- Not showing: SAROS appears on the home screen, but there is no update notice.
- Queued: Zenith is listed in Downloads/Uploads but has not started.
- Stuck: The progress percentage or remaining time stops changing.
- Failed: The PS5 displays an error and stops the download or installation.
- Missing or locked content: SAROS or an add-on is not visible, or the console acts as if you do not own it.
The symptom determines where to begin, but the least disruptive checks are useful in every case.
Start with the least disruptive fix: check the game tile
- From the PS5 home screen, highlight SAROS.
- Press the controller’s Options button.
- Select Check for Update.
- If an update is found, follow the download and installation prompts.
- Open the control center’s Downloads/Uploads panel to watch its progress.
Sony says PS5 games and applications normally update automatically when you start them. The manual check is useful when the console has not yet refreshed the title’s update information. Start SAROS once after the check if the system asks you to; launching the game can trigger the normal automatic-update process.
Do not confuse the update command with checking for a system-software update. Check for Update on the SAROS tile asks about the game. The separate system-software menu checks the PS5 operating system. Both checks matter if Zenith is not offered.

If Check for Update reports that SAROS is current, or the download does not start, verify the conditions that PS5 requires for an update. These checks are reversible and do not remove the installed game.
Test the internet connection
- Open Settings from the PS5 home screen.
- Choose Network.
- Select Connection Status, then Test Internet Connection.
Let the test finish rather than relying on the console’s Wi‑Fi icon. A failed test means the update cannot be retrieved; fix the connection or try a wired connection before repeating the game-tile check. If the test succeeds but the download repeatedly stalls, continue with the service-status and queue checks below. A successful test does not prove that PlayStation’s download service is currently available, so it is only one part of the diagnosis.
Restart the PS5 completely
Use the power menu and choose Restart PS5. A restart clears a temporarily stuck update process without deleting the game or saved data. After the home screen returns, run Check for Update again and inspect Downloads/Uploads.
If the console is unresponsive, avoid repeatedly pulling the power cable. Use the normal power menu when possible, then retry the update after the PS5 has fully restarted.
Recommended Free Tools
Install the latest PS5 system software
In Settings, open System, then System Software and System Software Update and Settings. Install any available console update and restart when prompted. A game update can fail when the operating system itself is behind the version required by the title.
After the system update finishes, return to the SAROS tile and run Options > Check for Update again. Treat the console update and the Zenith update as separate downloads; completing one does not necessarily start the other automatically.

Check available storage
- Open Settings.
- Select Storage.
- Review free space on the console or the drive where SAROS is installed.
Free space is needed for the downloaded package and for the installation process. If space is low, remove an unneeded game or media item, then empty the relevant deletion area if the console still reports insufficient capacity. Recheck storage before starting Zenith again.
Sony’s guidance establishes the need to verify free space, but it does not publish a Zenith-specific size. Do not reserve space based on an unofficial number or assume that the update requires exactly the size shown in a social-media post. Leave enough room for the package and the console’s installation process, then let the PS5 report whether capacity is sufficient.
Check PlayStation service status when downloads are stuck
A stalled download can be caused by an outage or maintenance affecting PlayStation services rather than by your console. Check the official PlayStation service-status page from a phone or computer, or use the status information available through PlayStation support. If a service incident is listed, wait for service to recover before repeatedly deleting and restarting the download.
There is no official, guaranteed waiting period for a Zenith outage. Repeated retries during an incident can create more incomplete queue entries without changing the underlying service condition. Once the status page shows normal service, restart the PS5 and perform a fresh game-tile check.
If Zenith is queued, paused or frozen
Use the download controls before deleting anything.
- Press the PS button to open the control center.
- Select Downloads/Uploads.
- Highlight the SAROS update.
- Choose Pause, wait briefly, then choose Resume.
If resume does not move the progress bar, cancel and delete that download from the same panel. Then open Game Library, find SAROS and start the update again. This removes the incomplete download package while leaving the installed game in place.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
When several downloads are listed, allow the SAROS item to move ahead of optional downloads if the queue controls permit it. Close applications that are actively using the network, and check that the PS5 is not waiting for a system restart. Do not interpret a long remaining-time estimate as proof of failure; use whether the percentage or transfer activity changes as the practical indicator.
What each download symptom usually means
| Symptom | Action to try first | Why this order matters |
|---|---|---|
| The update is not listed | Use the game tile’s Options > Check for Update, then restart the PS5. | These actions refresh the update check without altering local files. |
| The update is listed but remains queued | Pause and resume it in Downloads/Uploads. | A queue refresh can recover a stalled transfer. |
| Progress stops or an error appears | Test the connection, check service status and storage, then cancel and retry the download. | It separates a platform or network problem from a damaged download. |
| The update disappears after cancellation | Find SAROS in Game Library and select it again. | The game library is the documented route to restart a deleted update. |
| The console says there is not enough space | Review Settings > Storage, remove unneeded content and recheck capacity. | The download and installation both need available storage. |
| A service incident is reported | Stop retrying until PlayStation services recover, then restart the console and check again. | Local queue changes cannot repair an external outage. |
Restore the license if SAROS or Zenith content is missing or locked
Use license restoration when SAROS is not visible where expected, an add-on appears locked, or the console behaves as if you do not own the game. On PS5:
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses and confirm.
Sony says restoring licenses does not affect saved data. When it finishes, restart the PS5, open the SAROS tile and run Check for Update again. License restoration will not repair a broken network connection or create free storage; it addresses ownership and content-location checks.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
License restoration is especially appropriate after changing the account used on the console, moving between editions, or seeing a lock icon. It is not a substitute for downloading the update. If Zenith is already listed and its transfer is frozen, return to the network, service, storage and Downloads/Uploads steps.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do you need to reinstall SAROS?
Usually, no. Reinstallation is a later step because it removes the local game installation and requires the full game download or disc installation before Zenith can be applied. Use it when the update repeatedly fails after the connection, system, storage, queue and license checks, or when the installed files appear corrupted.
Before deleting anything, make sure you know whether your copy is digital or disc-based and that you can access the account or disc needed to install it again. A reinstall also requires enough storage for the base game and its updates, so it cannot solve a capacity problem by itself.
Reinstall from a digital library
- Highlight SAROS on the home screen and press Options.
- Choose Delete and confirm. This removes the installed application, not your cloud or local save data.
- Open Game Library.
- Find SAROS under your collection and select Download.
- After the base game installs, allow its updates to finish before launching.
If SAROS does not appear in the library after deletion, restore licenses before assuming the purchase is gone. Use the same PlayStation account that owns the digital game. If the download fails again, record the error instead of repeatedly deleting and reinstalling.
Reinstall from a SAROS PS5 disc
If you own the physical edition, insert the SAROS PS5 disc and follow the console’s install prompts after deleting the damaged installation. Keep the disc available because the PS5 may require it to start the game. Disc availability and edition details vary by region; use the edition that matches your account and console.
Sony explicitly lists reinstalling from a game disc as an option when an app or game will not update. A disc reinstall still needs an internet connection for the latest game updates, so it will not bypass a PlayStation service outage or a failed network test.
Do not delete the game merely because the Zenith announcement is visible online. First confirm that the console can connect, has room, recognizes your license and can download other content. Reinstalling over a service outage only adds time and bandwidth without fixing the underlying problem.
Use Safe Mode for persistent cache or database problems
When ordinary restarts and a clean retry fail, Sony documents two Safe Mode tools that can address system-feature or content-database issues: Clear System Software Cache and Rebuild Database.
Enter Safe Mode
- Turn the PS5 off completely, not just into Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the console’s power button.
- Release it after the second beep.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
Choose Clear System Software Cache first when the problem looks like a temporary system-feature or performance issue. If SAROS still will not update, return to Safe Mode and choose Rebuild Database. Sony describes this as scanning the drive and creating a new content database, which can correct how installed content is indexed.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Safe Mode has destructive options, including resetting the PS5. Do not select a reset option for a Zenith update problem unless PlayStation Support specifically directs you and you have verified your backups. Cache clearing and database rebuilding are separate from deleting and reinstalling SAROS, but you should still follow the on-screen warnings carefully.
Sony’s CE-120706-6 guidance uses a similar escalation: restore licenses, restart, rebuild the database, then delete and reinstall the game. That sequence explains why Safe Mode belongs after ordinary platform checks and before more drastic reset actions.
Choose the fix according to effort and risk
| Fix | Reversibility | Data or time impact | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check for Update | Fully reversible | Minimal | Zenith is not shown on the SAROS tile. |
| Restart PS5 | Fully reversible | Minimal | The update check or queue appears stale. |
| Connection, service and storage checks | Fully reversible | Low | The download will not start or stops partway through. |
| Pause/resume or cancel the download | Reversible, but the package must be fetched again | Uses download time and bandwidth | The update is queued or frozen. |
| Restore licenses | Reversible | Low; Sony says saves are not affected | SAROS or an add-on is missing or locked. |
| Clear cache or rebuild database | Less disruptive than a reset, but performed in Safe Mode | Requires a shutdown and scan | System-feature or content-index problems persist. |
| Delete and reinstall SAROS | Not quickly reversible | Full reinstall time and storage required | Local installation data is likely incomplete or corrupted. |
The practical rule is to move from checks that change nothing to actions that remove local data. Check the game tile, connection, service status, system software and storage first. Refresh the queue next, restore licenses when ownership or locked-content symptoms point there, then use Safe Mode. Reinstall only after those steps fail.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not assume the online announcement is a download notification. The announcement confirms release, but the PS5 still has to query the game service and complete the transfer.
- Do not use an unofficial patch-size claim as a storage requirement. Sony has not published a Zenith-specific size in the cited support information.
- Do not repeatedly cancel a download during a service outage. Check PlayStation status first.
- Do not choose Reset PS5 in Safe Mode by accident. Cache clearing and database rebuilding are the relevant non-reset tools.
- Do not treat license restoration as a network fix. It addresses missing or locked ownership and add-on data.
- Do not use third-party utilities or promise that changing DNS will solve this PS5-only problem. The documented path is the console’s own network, service, storage, queue, license and installation checks.
Common questions about a missing Zenith update
Why does my PS5 say SAROS is up to date when Zenith is live?
The console may not have refreshed its update information, or the update request may be blocked by a connection, service or storage problem. Restart the PS5, run Options > Check for Update on the SAROS tile, and then inspect the download panel. If the game still reports current, verify system software and PlayStation service status before reinstalling.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How do I force the SAROS update?
Highlight SAROS on the PS5 home screen, press Options, and select Check for Update. Sony’s automatic-update behavior is triggered when a game or app starts, so launching SAROS after the manual check can also prompt the normal update process.
Why is my SAROS download stuck at the same percentage?
Test the internet connection, restart the console, verify system software and free storage, and check PlayStation service status. Then pause and resume the item in Downloads/Uploads. If it remains frozen, cancel and delete that download and start it again from Game Library.
What if the update is queued but never begins?
Open the control center, select Downloads/Uploads, highlight the SAROS item and pause, then resume it. If the queue remains unchanged, cancel and delete the item, restart the PS5 and select SAROS from Game Library to begin a clean download.
Will restoring licenses delete my saves?
Sony says the PS5’s Restore Licenses function does not affect saved data. It is intended for games or add-ons that cannot be located or appear locked.
Can I clear the cache without reinstalling SAROS?
Yes. Shut down the PS5, hold the power button until the second beep, connect the controller by USB and choose Clear System Software Cache in Safe Mode. If necessary, use Rebuild Database afterward. These tools are separate from deleting the game.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Should I reinstall the digital game or use my disc?
Use the installation method that matches the copy you own. Digital owners reinstall from Game Library; disc owners insert the SAROS PS5 disc and follow the install prompts. Either method still requires storage and a functioning connection for current updates.
Is there a published Zenith download size or regional rollout schedule?
The launch announcement confirms the October 19, 2026 release and free availability for SAROS owners, but the available official information does not state a universal download size, regional delay or deadline for every account. Avoid relying on an unofficial size or a promised wait time.
Could a PS5 storage accessory fix the problem?
Only if insufficient free space is the actual cause. Sony’s guidance is to check available storage; it does not validate a particular accessory or require one for Zenith. Free space on the drive where SAROS is installed should be checked before buying hardware.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen to contact PlayStation Support
Escalate after the documented checks fail, especially if other games update normally but SAROS repeatedly returns the same error. Before contacting support, record the exact error code, the date and time of the attempt, whether the console is using Wi‑Fi or a wired connection, and a screenshot or short video of the failure.
Include the steps that reproduce it: for example, selecting Check for Update, starting the download and observing where it stops. Also note whether the game is digital or disc-based, how much free storage the PS5 reports, whether a service incident was listed, and which Safe Mode or license steps you already tried. Sony asks for a detailed description and reproduction steps for unresolved download or launch problems; those details let support distinguish a license issue, service problem, storage failure or damaged installation.
