Yes—the Sanli LazerMulch LMS400 is a push petrol mower that can either collect clippings in its catcher or mulch them back onto the lawn. Its steel deck, approximately 45–46 cm cutting width, 60-litre catcher and 10 cutting positions suit ordinary residential mowing, provided you are comfortable pushing a 28 kg machine. The 135 cm³ engine needs 600 ml of SAE 30 oil and minimum 95-octane premium unleaded petrol; the manual specifically warns against E10.
The important buying complication is availability. CHOICE’s 2026 comparison page marks the LMS400 discontinued and lists a $399 price, while its detailed cutting, noise, vibration and ease-of-use scores are restricted to members. Treat the specifications and maintenance instructions below as the reliable baseline, then confirm stock, parts and warranty status for the individual mower you are considering.
What is the Sanli LazerMulch LMS400?
The LMS400 is a conventional walk-behind mower with a petrol engine, steel chassis and push drive. “LazerMulch” describes its ability to mulch as well as catch: you can fit the catcher for collection or configure the discharge system for mulching, depending on the job. There is no powered drive system, so the operator supplies all forward movement.

CHOICE’s page, published in 2026 and reporting testing conducted before 2019, identifies the model as a catcher/mulcher with 10 cutting positions. The SANLI manual identifies the engine as an SL1P64F-A, rated at 135 cm³, with maximum power of 2.75 kW and a maximum operating speed of 3,100 rpm. Those figures describe the machine’s design, not a guarantee of cutting performance on every lawn.

For a buyer, the LMS400’s proposition is straightforward: a relatively wide domestic mower with a large catcher and a choice between collecting and returning clippings. Its main compromises are the effort of pushing a 28 kg machine, petrol-engine servicing and uncertain support now that the model is listed as discontinued.
What are the Sanli LMS400’s specifications?
The published figures differ slightly where CHOICE and the SANLI manual use different measurement conventions. The table keeps both values visible instead of presenting them as one definitive number.

The two height ranges are the most obvious discrepancy. The manual’s 15–75 mm range may describe the full mechanical adjustment, whereas CHOICE’s 25–65 mm figure may reflect the range observed or recorded for its tested configuration. Check the adjustment notches on the actual mower and use the supplied manual for setup rather than assuming one range applies to every production run.
How does catching compare with mulching on the LMS400?
Catching gives you a visibly tidy finish and removes clippings from the lawn; mulching leaves finely cut material on the surface. The LMS400 supports both workflows, so the practical choice depends on grass growth, lawn appearance and what you want to do with the clippings.
Using the 60-litre catcher
Install the catcher before mowing and monitor its fill level. A 60-litre bag reduces emptying stops compared with a smaller catcher, but a full bag adds weight and can make a push mower feel heavier. Empty it when airflow drops or clippings begin to trail behind the mower rather than waiting for the bag to become tightly packed.
Collection is useful when growth is long, when you are clearing leaves or when clippings would otherwise be carried indoors. It also gives a simple visual check: if the catcher is filling evenly, the discharge path is working. A sudden change in filling can indicate a blocked chute, wet material or a blade that needs inspection.
Switching to mulching
Mulching avoids carrying and disposing of clippings. Fit the mulching components exactly as shown in the manual and verify that the discharge opening is closed as specified for that configuration. Work at a pace that lets the blade recut the material; forcing the mower through dense growth can overload the engine and produce larger pieces.

Because the LMS400 is push-operated, alternating between catcher and mulcher is a manual workflow rather than a dashboard setting. Stop the engine before changing attachments or reaching near the blade area. Never remove a catcher or clear a blockage while the blade could still be rotating.
How do I prepare the LMS400 before its first start?
The engine must be filled with oil before it is started. The SANLI manual specifies 600 ml of SAE 30 oil in the sump and premium unleaded petrol of at least 95 octane; it warns not to use E10.
- Place the mower on a level surface with the engine stopped and cool.
- Add 600 ml of SAE 30 engine oil to the sump. Use the dipstick or level-check procedure in the manual to confirm the oil is at the correct mark; do not run the engine dry.
- Fill the 1.0-litre fuel tank with fresh petrol rated at least 95 octane. Do not substitute E10, which the manual expressly excludes.
- Check that the catcher or mulching setup is correctly fitted, the height controls are locked into a position and the blade area is free of loose material.
- Inspect the control cable, wheels, fasteners and visible blade condition before pulling the starter.
- Start with the throttle/control in the position specified by the manual for a cold engine. If it does not start, stop repeated attempts and work through the fault checks below rather than continuing to pump fuel into a flooded engine.
Oil and petrol capacities are maximum system figures, not instructions to pour both fluids in without checking levels. Spilling fuel on a hot engine is a fire risk; refuel outdoors with the engine stopped and allow hot components to cool.
What maintenance does the manual require?
The manual calls for an initial oil change after the first five hours of operation, followed by ongoing servicing. It also identifies the spark plug, air filter and blade as regular inspection or replacement items.
The Tool Desk

Plan the first oil change at five operating hours, even if the oil still looks clean. Drain and refill on a stable, level surface using the manual’s procedure, then confirm the level before restarting. Use SAE 30 as specified rather than mixing grades casually, and take used oil to an approved recycling or collection point.
Spark plug and air filter
A fouled or worn spark plug can cause hard starting, while a dirty air filter can restrict airflow and reduce power. Inspect these items at the intervals in the manual, keep dirt from falling into the intake while the filter is removed and install the correct replacement type for the SL1P64F-A engine.
Blade and deck
Inspect the blade for looseness, bends, cracks and excessive wear. Grass packed under the deck can contribute to vibration and interfere with discharge, so clean the underside only with the engine stopped, the ignition isolated as described by the manual and the mower secured against movement. Replace a damaged blade rather than trying to straighten a cracked one.

Why will an LMS400 not start, lose power or vibrate?
The manual links the common symptoms to a short list of checks. Work methodically and stop if a mechanical fault is visible.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Starting problems
- Confirm the throttle or control is in the required start position.
- Check that the tank contains fresh fuel of at least 95 octane and that the fuel has not been left stale.
- Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage and verify its connection.
- If the engine smells strongly of fuel after repeated pulls, allow for a flooded condition and follow the manual’s clearing procedure rather than adding more fuel.
- Make sure the fuel-cap vent is not blocked; restricted venting can interrupt fuel flow after the mower runs briefly.
Loss of cutting power
A dirty air filter is one documented cause. An incorrect cutting height can also overload the engine, particularly when taking too much material in one pass. Raise the deck, clear grass safely and make a slower pass instead of forcing the mower through dense growth.
Excessive vibration
Stop immediately and inspect for a loose, bent or damaged blade and for grass buildup under the deck. Do not continue operating while vibration is present: an unbalanced or damaged blade can worsen the fault and create a safety hazard. Tighten or replace parts only according to the manual’s instructions.
Is the LMS400 comfortable to push?
There is no drive motor to propel the mower, and CHOICE lists the weight at 28 kg. That combination is manageable on level, regularly cut lawns but demands more effort on slopes, thick growth and soft ground. A 45–46 cm deck covers a useful strip per pass, reducing the number of passes compared with a narrow mower, while the same width can make turns and storage less compact.
Before buying, measure gates, ramps and storage doors and consider who will push the machine. A self-propelled mower would reduce forward effort, but the LMS400 does not offer that function. The trade-off is a simpler drive system with fewer propulsion components to service.

The SANLI manual states a sound level of 75 dB. The document does not specify the measurement distance or test conditions, so use the number as a manufacturer-published indication rather than a direct comparison with every competing mower. Petrol engines are noisy enough that hearing protection is sensible, particularly during extended mowing or maintenance runs.
What warranty does Sanli provide?
The manual states that Sanli provides an express warranty for three years from the original purchase date for domestic use. Commercial use is covered for 90 days instead. Keep the original purchase evidence and confirm the seller’s process before relying on the warranty, especially when buying old stock or a used mower.

A warranty term does not guarantee that every consumable item or replacement part will still be obtainable. The LMS400’s discontinued status makes it important to verify who would handle a claim and whether compatible blades, filters and ignition parts can be sourced locally.
Is a discontinued LMS400 worth buying?
It can make sense when the mower is complete, starts readily, has a sound deck and is priced to reflect the support risk. It is a less attractive choice when you need guaranteed long-term parts supply or do not want to perform petrol-engine maintenance.
Checks for a new or old-stock mower
- Confirm that the catcher, mulching hardware, height-adjustment parts and safety controls are all present.
- Read the identification label and compare the engine designation with SL1P64F-A documentation.
- Look underneath for rust-through, severe dents or repairs around the blade mount.
- Ask the seller to explain the warranty start date, because the domestic term runs from the original purchase date.
- Check local availability and price for a replacement blade, spark plug and air filter before paying.
- Run the engine long enough to notice hunting, smoke, fuel leaks, abnormal vibration or poor catcher filling.
How to interpret the $399 listing
CHOICE shows a listed price of $399 on its 2026 page, but the same page marks the model “Discontinued.” That figure should not be treated as a current guaranteed retail price. Actual value depends on whether the mower is new old stock, second-hand, complete and supported by a usable warranty.
What does CHOICE’s review tell you—and what does it not?
CHOICE confirms the core specification: push drive, catcher/mulcher operation, 10 cutting positions, a 45 cm listed width, a 25–65 mm listed height range, 28 kg weight and the discontinued designation. Its page reports that testing occurred before 2019.
Detailed cutting, noise, vibration and ease-of-use scores, along with the associated pros and cons, are member-only on the retrieved page. It would therefore be misleading to assign the LMS400 a performance ranking from that listing. Use the published specifications and an inspection of the individual mower for your decision instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does the LMS400 compare with another petrol mower?
A fair comparison should use the same evidence categories rather than relying on the model name or an advertised engine size. Put the LMS400 beside another mower and check:
- Cutting system: whether both machines can mulch and catch, and how quickly the catcher can be removed or emptied.
- Deck width and height: compare the measured width and the usable height range for your lawn.
- Propulsion: a push mower shifts effort to the operator; self-propelled alternatives add mechanical complexity and usually cost more.
- Weight and handling: consider slopes, turning space, transport and storage.
- Engine requirements: compare fuel octane rules, E10 compatibility, oil grade and tank size.
- Serviceability: check access to blades, spark plugs, filters and oil-drain points.
- Support: compare warranty terms and confirm that parts are currently sold, not merely listed in an old manual.
- Noise information: make sure quoted decibel values use comparable test methods.
The available LMS400 evidence supports these specification and maintenance comparisons, but not a fresh independent score against another model. If two mowers are close on paper, parts availability and the effort of pushing them may matter more than a small engine-output difference.

What should you do before storing the mower?
Storage is especially important for a petrol mower that may sit unused between cuts. Empty or manage fuel according to the engine manufacturer’s instructions, clean grass from the deck, inspect the blade and keep the machine dry. Do not store it where fuel vapour can contact a flame, pilot light or other ignition source.
At the next use, recheck oil level, fuel condition, catcher fit and blade security. A mower that has been parked for months is more likely to show stale-fuel, blocked-vent or restricted-air-filter symptoms, so a short inspection can prevent a difficult start and protect the engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the LMS400’s warranty transfer to a second owner?
The manual describes coverage from the original purchase date, but it does not state a transfer policy. A second-hand buyer should obtain the original receipt and ask the seller or Sanli service contact to confirm whether the remaining domestic coverage is recognised.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhy do listings call the deck 45 cm while the manual says 460 mm?
Those measurements are effectively the same nominal width expressed with different rounding. The discrepancy is presentation, not evidence of two different deck sizes.
Can I rely on finding replacement LMS400 parts online?
No guarantee is established by the published specifications. Because the model is marked discontinued, check blade, filter and spark-plug availability with a mower-parts supplier before purchase and verify compatibility from the engine and deck identifiers.
What should I do if the catcher stops filling evenly?
Stop the engine and inspect the discharge path, catcher seating and underside for packed grass. If the problem remains after safe cleaning, inspect the blade condition and cutting height rather than continuing to mow through the blockage.
