Samsung’s original target for mass-producing its SF1.4 process was 2027, but the latest dated target located is 2029. Samsung’s 1Q 2026 investor presentation called 1.4nm “on track” without naming a year; the 2029 date comes from reporting on the company’s July 2026 SAFE Forum remarks.
How Samsung’s SF1.4 production target changed
| Date | What was said about SF1.4 | Source and meaning |
|---|---|---|
| October 2022 | Mass production planned for 2027. | Samsung Electronics’ roadmap announcement; the original target. |
| June 2024 | Preparations were “progressing smoothly,” with performance and yield targets on track for mass production in 2027. | Samsung newsroom update; a reaffirmation of the target at that time. |
| April 2026 | Samsung’s 1Q investor presentation said “1.4nm on track,” but the retrieved presentation text did not give a year. | Samsung investor presentation; it does not establish that the 2027 date was still in force. |
| July 2026 | Mass production targeted for 2029. | Financial News reported that Samsung Foundry Design Platform Development VP Shin Jong-sin gave this target at SAFE Forum 2026. |
| August 2026 | Reporting described SF1.4’s target as having moved from 2027 to 2029. | Tom’s Hardware’s account of the roadmap presented at NGL 2026; secondary reporting, rather than a direct Samsung roadmap document located here. |
Is Samsung’s 1.4nm process still on track for 2027?
Not according to the latest dated target located: 2029. The “on track” wording in Samsung’s April 2026 presentation did not include a year, so it should not be read as confirmation of 2027. The clearest evidence of the newer date is Financial News’ July 2026 account of the SAFE Forum statement; August reporting also described the target as 2029.
What does “1.4nm” mean in this roadmap?
SF1.4 is Samsung’s process-generation label. Samsung’s 2022 roadmap described continuing development of its gate-all-around (GAA) technology on the path to 1.4nm, but the reviewed material does not establish that “1.4nm” is a literal physical feature measurement. Nor does it provide comparable figures for SF1.4 transistor density, performance, power use, yield, or cost. Samsung’s process-technology overview provides general foundry context, not a revised SF1.4 production date.
What is known about the schedule change and High-NA EUV?
The cited reporting does not establish why Samsung’s target shifted. Tom’s Hardware reported that Samsung technology executive Chang Min Park discussed High-NA EUV readiness, quoting him as saying the technology still required improvement before use in mass production at nodes such as 2nm and 1.4nm. He also said Samsung expected High-NA EUV to become necessary from A10 and below and was conducting joint development with partners. Those remarks, as reproduced by the outlet, provide technology context; they do not prove that High-NA EUV caused the SF1.4 schedule change.

Does the 2029 target mean SF1.4 chips or devices will be available then?
No specific retail chip or consumer device based on SF1.4 is identified in the cited announcements and reports. A target for foundry mass production is a manufacturing-roadmap milestone; by itself, it does not confirm a named customer product, shipment date, or volume available to consumers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What has Samsung said about SF1.4’s capabilities?
The public statements cited here establish roadmap timing and Samsung’s stated preparation status, not independently published technical results. There are no substantiated SF1.4 figures here for performance, power, yield, density, or manufacturing cost, so a numerical comparison with another foundry’s process would not be supported.
