Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA: At First Glance

With the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA, Samsung offers its consumers a fair mixture of brand recognition and excellent performance. However, this particular Samsung television is quite expensive as its price is very close to $1000.

To be more specific, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA has a price tag of $999.99. This price was accurate as of the time I wrote this article in November 2021.

As a television this expensive, buyers will expect nothing less than high-end features and adequate performance. Thankfully, that is exactly what the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA delivers.

This television features a 4K display that supports HDR and should perform well in most cases or usage. Having introduced the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA, let’s get to know the television even more in subsequent sections below.

Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA: Design, Dimension and Weight

For a television with an expensive price tag, it is no surprise the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA features a sleek, premium design. To give more details, this television features slim bezels.

These plastic bezels, which borders the television’s display screen, have a matte-black finish. To add more appeal to the design, in the center of the bottom bezels, there is a “Samsung” logo.

That said, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA comes with two V-shaped legs. These legs have a matte-black finish and they are plastic.

Furthermore, these plastic matte-black legs are pretty sturdy, so they should support the television well if not wall-mounted. However, despite being so sturdy, the legs won’t prevent the television from wobbling if pushed.

Also, the legs are widely spread across to the edges of the television. Hence, you will need a fairly large table to put the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA on if not wall-mounted.

Turning to the back of the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA, you will see a black high-quality plastic panel. It is worth mentioning that the texture of this television’s back panel is matte.

Additionally, the back of this television features a bunch of horizontal ridges that give the television a more premium look. Also, a stripe of deep channels/tracks run along the bottom of the TV’s back for cable management.

Furthermore, the television’s back has holes to accommodate a 200 x 200 millimeter VESA mount. Speaking of wall-mounting, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA won’t budge out of the wall if wall-mounted.

This is due to the fact that the television isn’t thick.

Having said all that, let’s quickly discuss the dimension and weight of the television. The Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA measures 1457 x 58.4 x 838 mm and weighs 24992 g.

To be honest, for a 65-inch television, the weight of this TV is fair. Besides that, the television weighs less than most of the competitors.

For example, the Sony XBR-65Z9F, which is also a 65-inch television, weighs a massive 29500 g.

In conclusion, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA features a premium design that buyers would expect from an expensive high-end television. Therefore, I will rate the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA a nine out of ten in this design review section.

Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA: Display Features

The Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA mostly impresses when it comes to its display performance. To give more details, this television comes with a 65-inch LCD display.

Furthermore, this television’s display has a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. 4K resolution displays are mostly found on expensive televisions like the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA.

This is because 4K resolution displays are expensive. However, they offer crisp, colorful, and clear images.

Besides that, a 4K display is about 4 times better than the regular HD display. Therefore, since the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display features 4K resolution, it should be able to deliver colorful and clear content.

Moving on, despite already featuring one of the best resolutions available, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display offers an impressive contrast ratio. To be more specific, this display comes with a 5,120:1 contrast ratio.

However, most readers may not know what a display contrast ratio means. Well, let me explain.

The contrast ratio of a display is the ratio between the display’s brightness white and its darkest black. Furthermore, a high contrast ratio indicates that the display can produce deep blacks, which improves the display’s overall picture quality.

Therefore, since the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display’s 5,120:1, contrast ratio is practically high, it should be able to produce deep blacks. In other words, blacks that would appear on the display will look dark as they should be.

Also, the blacks on the display won’t look grayish, unlike cheap televisions with poor display contrast ratio. I guess you should be getting some hints now on why the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA is expensive.

That said, thanks to its display’s impressive contrast ratio, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA is suitable for dark room viewing. Also, the television is ideal for watching films with lots of dark and shadowy scenes.

The Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA has been impressive from the start of this display review section. Well, the television’s impressive performance continues as its display supports HDR.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a picture technology that allows for a greater range of colors and contrasts on a display. To put it another way, an HDR-compatible display produces contrasts and colors more realistically.

Oddly, despite having an impressive contrast ratio and supporting HDR, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display has somewhat poor brightness. Basically, this television display has a maximum brightness of only 215.7 nits.

You will get even more disappointed with this display brightness considering the television’s expensive $999.99 price tag. Asides from that, even some low-cost televisions nowadays feature a maximum brightness of up to 450 nits or more.

For me, I believe this display’s brightness is definitely the television’s most disappointing flaw. As a result of its poor display brightness, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA isn’t ideal for use in well-lit areas.

Therefore, the television is best-suited for use in dimly-lit or moderately-lit rooms.

Not only does the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display have poor brightness, but it also has mediocre viewing angles. Thus, viewing the television slightly off-center will result in a rapid reduction of picture quality.

In addition to reduced picture quality, picture colors also looks washed out.

Hence, it is advisable to view the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA directly from the center to retain its display’s brilliant picture quality. Additionally, because of its display’s poor viewing angles, this TV isn’t ideal for a large room setting.

Moving on, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display has a semi-gloss coating that prevents reflection. However, this semi-gloss coating can only prevent reflection effectively in moderately-lit rooms.

Thus, the semi-gloss coating might struggle to retract reflection in well-lit rooms or direct sunlight.

That said, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s display has a low input lag, which makes the television suitable for gaming. To give more details, this television’s display has a low input lag of 10.2 milliseconds.

Input lag is the amount of time that a display takes to register a signaled input. Additionally, the lower the input lag, the better the gaming experience.

The Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA is not only suitable for gaming, but it is also good for watching fast-motion content. Specifically, this TV’s display has an impressive response time of just 5.2 milliseconds.

The response time of a display is the time it takes the display to change from one color to another.

In conclusion, apart from its poor display brightness and viewing angles, this TV has all the display features to give users a cinematic viewing experience.

Therefore, in this display features review section, I will be rating the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA an eight out of ten.

Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA: Sound Features

For the sound department, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA employs a pair of 20-watts speakers. These speakers produce a good amount of fairly-rich sounds.

However, the speakers lack bass. Well, that was expected since the television doesn’t feature a subwoofer to support the speakers.

Notwithstanding, Samsung could have done better by adding a subwoofer since the television is pricey. As a result of its lack of a subwoofer, watching bass-heavy movies on the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA may not be enjoyable.

Besides that, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA won’t be able to produce thumping or rumbling sounds like explosives in movies.

On a positive note, this TV makes up for its lack of bass with its decent distortion performance. Specifically, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s speakers produce little to no distortion when the television’s volume level is 75% or below.

However, at the maximum volume level (100%), distortion might be a bit audible, but not too much. Moreover, some people might not hear the distortion but it depends on the type of movie you are viewing.

To top the television’s decent distortion performance up, the speakers produce clear and audible dialogue. Dialogue is the sound produced when two or more characters are talking in a movie.

Lastly, I will rate the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA an eight in this sound features review section.

Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA: Ports and Connectivity Features

The Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA comes with a good set of port selections. However, all of the ports are on the back of the television.

Therefore, if the television is wall-mounted, the port will be difficult to access.

That said, this Samsung television comes with three HDMI ports. Moreover, one of these HDMI ports supports ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Thus, you can connect a soundbar to the television using that particular HDMI port.

Moving on, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA offers two USB ports for connecting a flash drive or even charging your phone. Additionally, an RF connector, which can be used for connecting an antenna, is also included on the television.

Other ports include a composite video input, an optical audio port, and an Ethernet port for wired internet connectivity. For wireless connectivity, however, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA has a Built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Moving on, this TV comes with remote control, as everyone would expect. Regrettably, this remote control isn’t like the remote found on other premium and expensive Samsung televisions.

Specifically, this remote control looks like the remote of a budget television. To give more details, the remote is made of cheap plastic and it features huge rubbery buttons.

Furthermore, the remote is chunky to the extent it will barely fit in the user’s palm. However, this remote is functional as it features all of the necessary buttons.

To be more specific, this remote features a full number pad. Additionally, the remote has three dedicated buttons for quick access to streaming services like Netflix, HULU, and Amazon Prime Video.

Also, the remote features a plus-shaped navigational button with an input button in the center. Other buttons on the remote include Home, media playback, volume and channel rockers, power button, and mute button.

However, the remote doesn’t have an in-built microphone, unlike high-end Samsung remotes. Thus, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA’s remote isn’t voice-enabled.

In summary, this TV comes with a good port selection. However, the ports can’t be easily accessed because they are on the back of the TV.

Also, the included remote control doesn’t look good despite the fact that the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA is pricey. Additionally, the remote doesn’t support voice input.

After thorough consideration, I believe the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA doesn’t deserve a rating of more than eight out of ten.

Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA: Smart Features

For the smart department, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA is powered by the 2019 version of the Tizen operating system. This Tizen OS offers a user-friendly interface which Samsung calls the Smart Hub.

This Smart Hub interface looks really nice, smooth and should work well in most cases. Furthermore, the Smart Hub has a row of pre-installed apps, which can be found at the bottom of the screen.

Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime Video, HULU, and Disney+ are among the pre-installed apps you will find on the Smart Hub.

If those apps aren’t enough, you can download a whole lot more applications from the Samsung App Store.

Moving on, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA supports Amazon Alexa and Google Voice Assistant for voice input. However, to use the voice input feature, you will need to purchase an Amazon Alexa speaker or Google Home speaker.

This is due to the fact that the television like its remote control lacks an in-built microphone.

Impressively, users will be able to stream content from their mobile devices to the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA via the SmartThing app. Also, with AirPlay 2 built-in, users can stream or share content from their Apple devices to the television.

In conclusion, I will rate the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA an eight out of ten in this smart features review section.
