Because the 387L figure is described as gross volume, do not assume 387L of usable shelf and bin space. Shelves, lighting, air channels and door storage occupy part of the cabinet. Power Cool
Power Cool is the retailer-listed rapid-cooling function. It is useful after a large grocery shop or when warm items have been added, but rapid-cooling modes generally increase short-term electricity use while active. Use the control according to the manual and switch back to normal operation when the food has reached the desired temperature.
Digital Inverter Compressor
Samsung says the Digital Inverter Compressor varies its speed in response to cooling demand, which is intended to reduce energy use, operating noise and mechanical wear compared with a compressor that runs only at one speed. The public material does not provide a decibel figure, duty-cycle measurement or independent durability test, so those outcomes should be treated as design objectives rather than guaranteed performance numbers.
Frost-free operation and door alarm

Possible explanations include different measurement or labelling records, a regional or production revision, or a listing error; the available documents do not establish which explanation is correct. Ask the seller for a photograph of the energy label on the exact serial-numbered appliance and compare the test standard and model suffix. For running-cost estimates, calculate both scenarios rather than assuming the lower number: annual cost equals kWh per year multiplied by your electricity tariff.
For example, at a tariff of A$0.30 per kWh, 170kWh would be about A$51 per year and 205kWh about A$61.50. Those are arithmetic illustrations, not a forecast of your bill; household temperature, room heat, door opening and tariff changes will affect actual consumption.
What warranty do you actually get?
The warranty wording also differs by source. Samsung’s specification sheet says the compressor is backed by a 20-year warranty and explicitly limits that 20-year term to the compressor only. Appliances Online lists a two-year manufacturer warranty for the appliance plus 10 years of parts coverage for the Digital Inverter Compressor.

Do not interpret a long compressor term as 20 years of full-appliance coverage. Shelves, door hardware, seals, electronics, fans and labour may have different terms or exclusions. Before ordering, save the retailer’s warranty page, ask who handles service in your region and confirm whether the offered unit is new, clearance, refurbished or old warehouse stock.

Will the refrigerator fit your kitchen?
The listed external dimensions are 595mm wide, 1,853mm high and 694mm deep. Measure the cabinet opening, not just the appliance cavity: skirting boards, benchtops, rear ventilation space and the thickness of the door can all reduce usable clearance. Check the door swing
The reversible door is valuable when the hinge side would otherwise collide with a wall or adjacent cabinet. CHOICE’s public page confirms a 2023 test year, energy metadata, dimensions, price and discontinued status, but its expert rating and laboratory score breakdown are member-only. There is therefore no public evidence here to rank the SRP406RS on measured cooling stability, noise or test performance.
Is the Samsung SRP406RS discontinued?
CHOICE marks the model as a discontinued model. That does not prove that every retailer has no remaining stock, but it does make availability, spare parts and exact warranty terms more important to verify.
