Is the Samsung SRL456LS a good refrigerator?

The 427 L brochure figure and 458 L retail/test figure do not prove that one source is wrong. Manufacturers and retailers may report gross volume, usable net volume, or a claimed compartment measurement using different conventions. The refrigerator and freezer figures above therefore should not be added together or compared with another model unless both products use the same basis. For a like-for-like purchase decision, ask the seller for the net usable refrigerator and freezer volumes and record the source beside each number.
How much clearance does installation need?
The published dimensions are the appliance body, not a guaranteed clearance diagram. Leave the manufacturer’s specified ventilation gap at the top, rear and sides, and allow the door to open far enough to remove shelves and drawers. A reversible door helps when the hinge side conflicts with a wall or adjacent cabinet, but reversing it does not eliminate the need to check the full swing in its final position.
Measure doorways, stair turns and lift interiors before delivery. At 83 kg net, the cabinet is heavy enough that a delivery team and an unobstructed route matter; the 91 kg retailer figure may include packaging or represent a listed shipping weight.

All Around Cooling and multi-flow cooling circulate cold air through the compartments to reduce temperature variation. The documented no-frost system is intended to prevent routine manual defrosting. Keep air outlets clear and avoid packing food tightly against the rear wall, because blocked circulation can create warm spots regardless of the system name.
Power Freeze
Power Freeze provides a temporary intensive-freezing mode for newly added frozen food or ice making. It uses more cooling effort while active, so use it for the intended short period and return to normal operation when the load has frozen.

How much electricity does the Samsung SRL456LS use?

For example, a tariff of $0.30 per kWh would produce a simple estimate of about $99 to $104 per year using the two published consumption figures; your tariff, climate and usage can move the actual result. Use the same test or label basis when comparing another refrigerator, and do not infer annual cost from the four-star label alone.

What did independent testing and the warranty cover?
CHOICE records a 2021 test of the SRL456LS, but the detailed performance scores are available only to members. That means a public article should not assign the refrigerator a CHOICE expert score or imply rankings that cannot be verified. The available evidence supports the existence and date of the test, not a specific public result for cooling, noise or reliability.

The parts coverage is not the same as a full-appliance warranty: labour, call-out charges, transport and other components can have different terms. Before buying old stock or a used unit, obtain the actual warranty document, confirm the start date and ask whether the serial number and original proof of purchase are required.
Is the Samsung SRL456LS discontinued, and where can you buy one?
Andoo says the product is no longer available. ProductReview.com.au labels it discontinued, and Consumer NZ also labels it discontinued in a page last updated 7 October 2024. Those notices indicate that a normal new-stock purchase is unlikely, although an individual retailer may still hold old stock or a marketplace seller may offer a used appliance.
Availability claims are time-sensitive. A listing that appears online may be a display unit, returned appliance, parallel import or a listing that has not been removed after the last unit sold. Ask for a photograph of the model and serial label, the manufacturing or purchase date, a written condition report and the seller’s return terms. Confirm that the seller can arrange service and obtain replacement parts in your region before treating the listing as a viable purchase.

Use owner reports as prompts for inspection: listen for abnormal cycling, check that drawers and shelves are intact, inspect door alignment and seals, and verify that cooling is even after the appliance has stabilised. A review score should not replace a temperature check, serial-number lookup and parts-support confirmation.

For a new purchase, find a current Samsung successor or another model that fits the same space, then compare these axes line by line. Do not assume a successor has identical hinge geometry, net volume or warranty simply because the cabinet looks similar.

Choose a current model instead when you need predictable availability, transparent net-capacity data, a fresh full-appliance warranty or documented independent performance results. The SRL456LS’s basic cooling design is not obsolete by itself, but discontinued status changes the ownership risk enough that price and support should decide the purchase.
