The Samsung SR520BLSTC is a large top-mount refrigerator with a genuinely useful convertible freezer, but it is no longer a straightforward new-buy recommendation. Samsung rates it at 498 litres of usable space, while CHOICE lists 525 litres total, and the freezer can be switched between up to five modes for extra refrigerator capacity. Its separate cooling circuits, pantry drawer and inverter compressor are practical advantages. The main drawbacks are its reported discontinuation, limited public evidence on noise and temperature performance, and the uncertainty of obtaining warranty or parts support in 2026.
It makes the most sense as a verified used, clearance or remaining-stock purchase when you need flexible storage and a conventional top-freezer layout. If dependable new-product warranty and long-term parts access matter more than convertible storage, compare it with currently sold top-mount models before committing.
Is the Samsung SR520BLSTC a good refrigerator?
It is a capable, spacious refrigerator for households that value a large freezer-on-top format and the option to turn freezer space into refrigerator space. The configuration is less suitable if you require a plumbed water dispenser, automatic ice production, a bottom freezer or the certainty of current-model support.
The SR520BLSTC was sold under Samsung’s RT18M6211SG/SA code. Samsung’s specification sheet describes 498 litres of usable storage, while CHOICE’s 2018 record lists 525 litres of total volume. Those figures are not necessarily contradictory: manufacturers and test organizations can calculate usable and total volume differently. Treat the two numbers as different measurement methods rather than adding or averaging them.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Best fit: families wanting a wide top-mount refrigerator, flexible freezer use and no water connection.
- Less suitable: buyers who need a current model, guaranteed parts availability, automatic ice or a built-in dispenser.
- Buying position in 2026: verify stock, condition, local warranty and service support because multiple listings describe the model as discontinued or unavailable.
What are the Samsung SR520BLSTC dimensions and capacity?
Measure the delivery route and the final installation space using the retailer’s millimetre figures, not only the rounded dimensions in a comparison listing. The cabinet is about 1.70 metres high, 0.73 metres wide and 0.81 metres deep, so doorways, lifts and benchtop overhangs can be more restrictive than the kitchen opening itself.
| Specification | Samsung specification sheet | CHOICE or retailer listing |
|---|---|---|
| Product type | Top-mount refrigerator/freezer | Large freezer-on-top model |
| Model identification | SR520BLSTC; sold under RT18M6211SG/SA | Verify the rating plate on the actual appliance |
| Total capacity | 498 L usable space | 525 L total volume in CHOICE’s 2018 record |
| Refrigerator compartment | 360 L | Not separately stated |
| Freezer compartment | 138 L | Not separately stated |
| Height | Not stated in the sheet cited | 1,697 mm retailer figure; CHOICE rounds to 170 cm |
| Width | Not stated in the sheet cited | 729 mm retailer figure; CHOICE rounds to 73 cm |
| Depth | Not stated in the sheet cited | 810 mm |
| Weight | Not stated in the sheet cited | 82 kg |
| Finish | Not stated in the sheet cited | Black layered steel |
The 360-litre refrigerator section is the larger part of the appliance, while the nominal 138-litre freezer is unusually adaptable because it can be converted. Capacity comparisons should therefore include both the compartment figures and the mode you expect to use most often. A refrigerator that looks similar on a specification page can provide less usable cold-storage space if shelves, drawers or ice hardware occupy more of its interior.
What should I check before installation?
The published 1,697 × 729 × 810 mm dimensions describe the appliance, not the complete clearance required for doors, ventilation or service access. Ask the seller for the local installation diagram and measure the narrowest doorway, hallway turn and lift entrance. Leave enough room for the doors and drawers to open fully; a cabinet that physically fits can still be unusable if a wall prevents the doors from swinging.
The refrigerator has no water dispenser and does not require plumbing. That simplifies placement in a rental, pantry or kitchen without a nearby water line, but it also means ice comes from the included manual twist ice maker rather than an automatic dispenser.
How does the Smart Convertible Freezer work?
The freezer can be changed into additional refrigerator storage through up to five Smart Convertible Freezer modes. Samsung describes the change as being made with a few button presses, allowing you to match the compartment to seasonal or household demand.

Useful conversion scenarios
- Use the normal freezer setting when you regularly store frozen meals, meat or ice.
- Switch to refrigerator use when a party, holiday or bulk grocery trip creates more chilled-food demand than frozen-food demand.
- Use the flexibility to avoid buying a second refrigerator solely for occasional extra capacity.
Conversion is a storage trade-off, not an expansion of the cabinet. In a refrigerator mode, the compartment no longer provides the same frozen-storage function, so plan where frozen goods and ice will go before changing it. Allow the appliance to reach its new operating temperature before loading it heavily, and follow the mode and loading instructions on the control panel or local manual because the exact sequence is market-specific.
What happens to the ice maker?
The included ice maker is manual, movable and removable. Taking it out can free space inside the freezer; keeping it installed preserves a dedicated place for making ice. If you convert the compartment to refrigerator use, decide whether the ice tray is still useful and store it safely if you remove it. There is no plumbed ice or water system to maintain.

What do Twin Cooling Plus and the pantry drawer do?
Twin Cooling Plus uses separate cooling systems for the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Samsung says the arrangement is intended to improve temperature control and minimize mixing of odors between the two sections. Separate circuits can be valuable when uncovered foods, strong cheeses or frozen items would otherwise share circulating air, although the specification sheet does not provide an independent odor or temperature score.
The Slide & Reach Pantry is a lower-temperature drawer within the refrigerator compartment. Samsung positions it for foods such as meat or fish that benefit from colder storage than the main refrigerator shelves. Keep raw foods sealed and follow local food-safety guidance; the drawer is a storage zone, not a substitute for checking the actual temperature with a thermometer.
Which everyday features does the SR520BLSTC include?
- Power Cool: a rapid-cooling function for the refrigerator after loading warm groceries.
- Power Freeze: a rapid-freezing function for the freezer after adding fresh items or making ice.
- Tempered-glass shelves: rigid shelves designed for normal refrigerator loads and easier wipe-down than wire racks.
- LED lighting: illumination for the interior with lower heat output than older incandescent-style lamps.
- Door alarm: an audible warning when a door remains open, useful in busy kitchens.
- Digital Inverter compressor: Samsung’s variable-speed compressor design, intended to adjust output rather than repeatedly running at one fixed speed.
- R600a refrigerant: the refrigerant specified for this model; servicing should be performed by a qualified appliance technician.
There is no water dispenser, external ice dispenser or plumbing requirement. That reduces installation complexity and potential water-line leaks, but users who expect chilled water at the door will need a separate jug or countertop solution.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

How much electricity does the Samsung SR520BLSTC use?
The cited energy figure is 360 kWh per year, and CHOICE lists a four-star energy rating from its 2018 record. The annual figure is a claimed or labeled consumption value, not a promise that every household will use exactly that amount. Ambient temperature, door openings, food load, temperature settings, installation clearances and the selected convertible mode all affect actual consumption.
| Energy detail | What is established |
|---|---|
| Annual consumption | 360 kWh/year claimed by Samsung’s specification sheet and listed by CHOICE |
| Energy rating | Four stars in CHOICE’s 2018 record |
| Test year | 2018 CHOICE record |
| Household running cost | Not fixed; calculate from your electricity tariff |
To estimate electricity cost, multiply 360 kWh by your tariff per kilowatt-hour. For example, a tariff of 0.30 currency units per kWh would produce a theoretical annual cost of 108 currency units before real-world variation; use your own bill’s rate and currency. Because the model is discontinued, compare its labeled consumption with the current local energy label of any replacement rather than comparing star counts from different labeling systems or years without checking the regional rules.
Is the SR520BLSTC quiet and reliable?
There is not enough public evidence to assign it a defensible noise rating or reliability forecast. CHOICE’s paid testing fields include temperature stability, temperature evenness, noise, running cost and reliability, but the public page does not expose the individual scores.
ProductReview displays a 3.4/5 score from six owner reviews. Its visible sub-scores include 4.0 for noise level and 2.7 for build quality, and one owner praises capacity and temperature consistency while criticizing cleaning convenience. Six self-selected reviews are an anecdotal signal, not a controlled reliability study; use them to identify questions for inspection rather than as a statistical failure rate.
Is the Samsung SR520BLSTC discontinued?
CHOICE, Andoo and ProductReview each report the SR520BLSTC as discontinued or no longer available. Availability can vary by country and by remaining warehouse stock, so a local retailer may still have a boxed unit, a display appliance or a refurbished example even when the manufacturer no longer lists it as a current model.

Before paying, ask for the exact model code, manufacturing date, warranty document and written confirmation of service support. A current refrigerator with similar capacity may cost more or offer different features, but it can provide simpler warranty claims and easier parts ordering. For a discontinued unit, confirm that the seller can identify replacement shelves, door seals, drawers, the manual ice maker and compressor service in your region.
What should you compare with a current top-mount refrigerator?
Compare the complete ownership proposition rather than headline litres alone. The following checklist covers the differences most likely to change your decision.
| Comparison point | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Usable storage | Are the figures usable or total, and how much space remains after shelves and ice hardware? |
| External fit | Do height, width, depth, door swing and required clearances work in the actual room? |
| Energy | What annual kWh figure and local star rating appear on the current regional label? |
| Temperature performance | Are independent stability, evenness and noise results available, or only marketing claims? |
| Freezer flexibility | Can the freezer convert, and what frozen-storage capacity remains in each mode? |
| Ice and water | Is ice manual or automatic, and is plumbing required? |
| Warranty | How long are the appliance and compressor warranties, and who performs local service? |
| Parts support | Can the seller supply seals, shelves, drawers and electronic controls after the sale? |
| Availability | Is the model actively manufactured, or is it clearance, used or refurbished stock? |
The SR520BLSTC is strongest on conversion flexibility and conventional installation. A current model can be the safer choice when parts, documented service and a fresh energy label outweigh the benefit of switching freezer space to refrigerator space.
What should I inspect on a used or clearance SR520BLSTC?
- Confirm that the rating-plate model matches SR520BLSTC or the RT18M6211SG/SA code shown on the paperwork.
- Check door seals for splits, gaps or sections that no longer grip the cabinet.
- Run the refrigerator and freezer long enough to confirm that both compartments cool and that the control panel responds.
- Test the convertible modes and verify that the pantry drawer, shelves, lighting and door alarm are present.
- Inspect the manual ice maker for cracks and make sure it can be removed or repositioned as intended.
- Listen for abnormal rattling, repeated clicking or unusually long compressor operation; record any symptom for the seller rather than assuming it is normal.
- Look for heavy corrosion, water damage, damaged hinge hardware or a cabinet that rocks on the floor.
- Obtain the warranty card, receipt and return terms in writing before delivery.
A display or used appliance should be priced with its support risk in mind. The lower purchase price is not a saving if a failed control board, seal or drawer cannot be sourced locally.

- Keep door seals clean and dry so they close evenly.
- Wipe spills promptly, especially in and around the pantry drawer, and remove shelves according to the manual before washing them.
- Do not block interior air passages with large containers; cooling performance depends on circulation.
- Use Power Cool and Power Freeze for recovery after loading groceries, then return to normal operation when the food is cold.
- Clean and dry the manual ice maker before storing it or moving it between modes.
- Keep the cabinet level and leave the manufacturer’s specified ventilation space around it.
- Arrange professional service for sealed-system or refrigerant work; R600a systems require appropriate tools and handling.
Samsung SR520BLSTC pros and cons
Advantages
- Large top-mount layout with 360 litres of stated refrigerator capacity.
- Up to five freezer-conversion modes for changing household storage needs.
- Twin Cooling Plus separates refrigerator and freezer cooling circuits.
- Lower-temperature pantry drawer for meat or fish.
- No plumbing requirement and a movable manual ice maker.
- Inverter compressor, LED lighting, tempered-glass shelves and door alarm.
Limitations
- Reported discontinued or unavailable, with uncertain new-stock and parts status.
- CHOICE’s detailed laboratory scores are not publicly visible.
- Owner feedback is limited to a small, self-selected sample.
- No water dispenser or automatic ice system.
- Published capacity differs by measurement method, so comparisons require care.
- Warranty terms depend on the local card and seller, not only the headline motor-parts statement.
Final verdict: should you buy the Samsung SR520BLSTC?
Buy the Samsung SR520BLSTC only after verifying the exact unit, local support and return protection. Its convertible freezer, separate cooling systems, pantry drawer and generous top-mount storage remain useful, and the 360 kWh/year claim is reasonable context for comparing appliances from the same market and labeling period. However, the reported discontinuation and limited independent performance data make a current, supported alternative the lower-risk choice for most new purchases.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the R600a refrigerant label mean for owners?
R600a is an isobutane refrigerant used in many efficient domestic refrigerators. It is flammable, so puncturing tubing or attempting sealed-system repairs is unsafe; arrange service through a technician equipped and authorized to handle the refrigerant.
How can I calculate my own annual running cost?
Read the energy rate on your electricity bill, expressed in currency per kWh, and multiply it by the appliance’s 360 kWh/year label figure. Your actual bill can differ because the label is a standardized estimate rather than a household guarantee.
Why might a retailer show a different model number?
The SR520BLSTC name is associated with Samsung’s RT18M6211SG/SA code in the specification material. Match the complete code on the appliance rating plate and warranty paperwork, because regional suffixes can identify different electrical, finish or warranty versions.
What clearance information should I request before delivery?
Ask the seller or Samsung service channel for the installation diagram for your market, including ventilation space, door-swing clearance and leveling requirements. The cabinet dimensions alone do not establish the space needed to open drawers or service the appliance.
