Samsung Q6F: At First Glance

Samsung is unarguably one of the best television brands globally. In order to solidify its stance in the television market, Samsung started releasing QLED televisions in 2017.

Samsung’s QLED televisions are major rivals to LG’s OLED televisions. Furthermore, they are known for delivering vivid and colorful picture quality, and the Samsung Q6F isn’t an exception.

The Samsung Q6F is a smart television released in 2018 that has a 4K QLED display that offers exceptional picture quality and low input lag. Apart from its QLED display, this television comes with the Tizen OS, which gives it access to major streaming apps like Netflix.

However, does the Samsung Q6F have what it takes to compete with LG’s OLED televisions in the market? An answer to that question and more are what you are going to get in the remaining sections of this review.

Hence, continue reading!

Samsung Q6F: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Samsung Q6F comes with a sleek minimalist design that could catch one’s attention at first sight. To be descriptive, the television features extremely thin bezels that border its 55-inch display.

Moreover, these bezels are made of metal and feature a matte silver finish. Furthermore, at the center of the bottom bezel, you will find a black “SAMSUNG” logo.

This logo not only beautifies the front side of the television but also serves as a means of brand identification. Just like the bezels, the Samsung Q6F comes with a pair of metal legs that has a matte silver finish.

Besides, due to the metal build of these legs, they offer the television adequate support to stand firmly. As a matter of fact, the Samsung Q6F won’t wobble even a bit when nudged.

However, as with most televisions, these legs are positioned to the extreme edges of the Samsung Q6F. As a result, if not mounted on the wall, you will need a relatively large table to place the television on.

Turning to the rear of the Samsung Q6F, you will discover a slim panel that features a matte-black finish. Moreover, due to the slimness of this rear panel, this Samsung television shouldn’t bulge out when wall-mounted.

Talking of wall mounting, the Samsung Q6F features four VESA 200 x 200 holes on its rear panel for wall-mounting purposes. Also, on the plastic rear panel of this television, you will find some grooves and lines at the bottom part.

These groves and lines serve as a cable management system. In fact, the metal legs of the television have holes on their backs that also serve as a form of a cable management system.

Hence, with these cable management systems, the Samsung Q6F should look neat all the time when cables are connected to it.

Having said all that, let us briefly discuss the size and weight of the television. The Samsung Q6F measures 1227.1 x 54.9 x 710.7 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 17200 g.

In my opinion, for a 55-inch television, this Samsung television’s weight is fair. As a matter of fact, when compared to one of its competitors (Sony XBR – 55X900F), this television weighs less.

To be more specific, the Sony XBR – 55X900F weighs 18200 g and measures 1228 x 69 x 706 mm (W x D x H).

In conclusion, the Samsung Q6F comes with an attractive design with a minimalist build. Moreover, the television features two forms of cable management system and weighs less than one of its competitors.

Therefore, I will rate the Samsung Q6F a nine out of ten in this design review section.

Samsung Q6F: Display Features and Picture Quality

As hinted severally in this article, the Samsung Q6F comes with a 55-inch QLED display. The abbreviation QLED stands for quantum dot light-emitting diode, or “quantum dot LED” as Samsung calls it.

Moreover, any QLED display television appears and performs similarly to a regular LED display television. However, the major difference between these displays is that the QLED display is incorporated with a quantum dot layer.

This layer enhances the brightness and color presentation of the QLED display. Hence, it is safe to say that a QLED television should deliver better picture quality than a standard LED television.

Away from that, the Samsung Q6F’s QLED display features a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. Hence, thanks to this resolution, the display should be able to deliver clear, sharp, well-detailed, and realistic picture quality.

To add to the 4K UHD resolution, this television’s display offers an excellent contrast ratio of 6,203:1. Due to this, the blacks rendered by this display should be very deep and extremely dark.

As a result, the Samsung Q6F is suitable for watching movies with numerous dark or shadowy scenes, like 2022’s The Batman. Also, this television should be ideal for dark room viewing thanks to its display’s high contrast ratio.

For those wondering, contrast ratio is the ratio between a display’s brightest shade (white) and the darkest shade (black). Impressively, even though the Samsung Q6F’s QLED display already has a high contrast ratio, it still supports local dimming.

For clarity, local dimming is a technique that improves the black level of a display by dimming backlight zones. Hence, with local dimming, blacks on this television’s QLED display will be really deep and dark than they would be without local dimming.

In addition to its local dimming compatibility, the Samsung Q6F’s QLED display is also compatible with HDR. To be more specific, the display supports various HDR formats, which are HDR pro, HDR 10+, and HLG.

Just to be clear, HDR also means High Dynamic Range. Moreover, it is a picture technology that enhances the color accuracy and brightness of a display.

Practically, when viewing HDR-supported content on an HDR-compatible display such as the Samsung Q6F’s display, pictures will be very lifelike and realistic. For the record, HDR-supported content is mostly found on streaming platforms such as Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.

Thanks to HDR, the Samsung Q6F’s display offers an outstanding maximum brightness of 524 nits. Hence, the television is more than adequate for usage in a bright or sunny environment.

On the downside, this television’s display has poor viewing angles. As a result, the Samsung Q6F isn’t ideal for a large room setting.

This is due to the fact that colors will look washed out when the television is viewed off-center or from extreme angles. Thus, in order to retain the display’s color and picture quality, it is best you watch the television directly from the center.

On a positive note, the Samsung Q6F’s QLED display offers an excellent response time of 12.9 milliseconds (ms). The response time of a display is the time that it takes the display to transition from one color to another.

Hence, due to its fast response time of 12.9 ms, there will be minimal blur trials when this television’s display is rendering fast-motion content. Therefore, the Samsung Q6F is good for watching sports, action movies, and any other fast-motion content.

Aside from its outstanding response time, this television’s QLED display also offers a low input lag of 15.2 ms. As a result, the Samsung Q6F is suitable for playing video games.

For clarity, input lag is the time it takes a display to respond to a signal input from external sources like a wireless gamepad. Hence, the lower the input lag, the better the gaming experience.

In conclusion, apart from its poor viewing angles, there is absolutely nothing to dislike about the Samsung Q6F’s QLED display. In fact, the display offers a low input lag which makes the television good for gamers.

Therefore, in this display features review section, I will rate the Samsung Q6F a nine out of ten.

Samsung Q6F: Sound Features

From the sound department, the Samsung Q6F employs a pair of 2.1 CH 40-watt speakers. These speakers are extremely loud and produce a pleasing sound quality.

Hence, due to the loudness of the speakers, this Samsung television is good for a large room setting. Besides, the television features a built-in subwoofer, meaning it will be able to produce an adequate amount of bass.

As a result, bass-heavy movies will be a joy to watch on the Samsung Q6F. To make things even better, this television comes with a sound technology called Dolby Digital Plus.

Dolby Digital Plus helps the television’s speakers to store and transmit high-quality digital sound so as to deliver the best audio quality. Besides that, this sound technology improves the surround sound production of the Samsung Q6F’s speakers.

Thereby allowing them to deliver an immersive and theatre-like audio quality. Also, thanks to Dolby Digital Plus, the television’s speakers produce clear and understandable dialogue.

For clarity, dialogue means the conversation between multiple individuals in a movie or TV show. To top up its impressive sound performance, the Samsung Q6F offers an outstanding distortion performance.

This is evident via the 0.781% score achieved by the television on a THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test. To be clear, THD is a sound test that calculates the amount of distortion that a sound system is capable of generating.

Furthermore, based on the setting of this test, a score of 1% or less means the sound system generates minimal distortion. However, if the score is above 1%, that implies that the sound system generates a significant amount of distortion.

Well, as stated above, the Samsung Q6F delivered 0.781% on the THD test, which is relatively below 1%. Hence, whether the television is set at a moderate or maximum volume level, its speakers will only produce minimal distortion.

As a matter of fact, the distortion may not be audible at all, and you won’t be able to hear it. You must be wondering what distortion means.

To satisfy your curiosity, distortion is the alteration of the original audio signals of a sound system. Thereby allowing the sound system to generate an unappealing and disturbing sound quality.

In conclusion, the Samsung Q6F delivers a flawless sound performance. As a result, I will rate the television a nine out of ten in this sound features review section.

Samsung Q6F: Ports and Connectivity Features

Samsung equipped the Q6F with a reasonable amount of functional ports. However, all the ports are housed in a compartment on the back of the television.

As a result, if you eventually mount the television on the wall, you might not be able to access the ports easily. Having mentioned the location of the ports, let us quickly discuss the varieties of ports that the television feature.

To start off, the Samsung Q6F comes with four HDMI ports and two USB ports. It is crucial to mention that all these HDMI ports support ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Therefore, you will be able to connect a soundbar to the television by using any of its HDMI ports. That aside, the Samsung Q6F features an Ethernet port, digital optical audio out, composite input, component video input, and an RF port.

Meanwhile, for wireless connectivity, the Samsung Q6F offers a built-in 802.11 ac WiFi. Unexpectedly and disappointing, this television lacks Bluetooth.

On a positive note, the Samsung Q6F comes with a voice-supported TM1850A remote control. Specifically, this remote control features a built-in mic for voice input via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Design-wise, this remote control is composed of plastic with an attractive matte-black finish. However, the remote offers a limited number of buttons.

In fact, the remote lacks a full number pad. Among the few buttons that you will find on this remote include a ring-shaped navigation button and a microphone button.

Sadly, unlike most remotes nowadays, the Samsung Q6F’s TM1850A remote lacks dedicated buttons for quick access to specific streaming services. Nevertheless, you will find a white “SAMSUNG” inscription at the bottom of the remote for brand recognition.

In conclusion, the Samsung Q6F offers an adequate port selection but lacks Bluetooth. Also, all the ports cannot be easily accessed because they are all on the television’s back.

Besides, the television lacks Bluetooth. Nevertheless, this television compensates for all these by featuring a voice-supported remote control.

Hence, I will be rating the Samsung Q6F an eight out of ten in this ports and connectivity features review section.

Samsung Q6F: Smart Features

For the smart department, the Samsung Q6F comes with the Tizen operating system. This Tizen operating system offers a user-friendly interface which Samsung refers to as Smart Hub.

Moreover, this Smart Hub interface is responsive, free of lag, and has smooth animation. Hence, navigating the interface should be very easy and swift as breeze.

However, when navigating the interface, you might encounter some annoying advertisements. To make things even worse, these ads cannot be disabled.

On the plus side, the Tizen OS offers a variety of streaming services and applications. Some of these streaming services are Spotify, Hulu, HBO, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.

Besides, this operating system has an app store called the Samsung Store, where you can download additional applications. Aside from that, you should be able to share content from your smartphones to the Samsung Q6F.

To do so, you need to download the SmartThings app on your smartphone. Also, you need to make sure that your smartphone and the Samsung Q6F are connected to the same WIFI network.

For your information, the SmartThings app is free for download on the App Store and Google Play Store.

In conclusion, the Samsung Q6F comes with a brilliant OS that offers a smooth interface and numerous streaming services. However, the interface of the operating system features annoying ads that cannot be disabled.

Therefore, I will be rating the Samsung Q6F an eight out of ten in this smart features review section.
