Samsung NU6900 43: At First Glance

Samsung is one of the top leading producers of quality television sets. They have also been timely in delivering the best TV models that can compete with other television brands.

Hence, in 2018, Samsung released the NU6900 43, an entry-level smart television with a 4K display and awesome features. Some of these features include an amazing design, an easy-to-use Tizen operating system, and a fast response time.

Impressively, in spite of these features, the Samsung NU6900 43 has a reasonable price tag. To be more specific, when I wrote this article in March 2022, this Samsung television had a price tag of $499.99.

However, would the Samsung NU6900 43 offer adequate performance, or is its inexpensive price tag just a means to lure unaware buyers? Well, you’ll have to pay close attention to the remaining sections of this review to find out.

Samsung NU6900 43: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Samsung NU6900 43 comes with a simple design that is surprisingly good-looking and somewhat sleek. To be descriptive, this television features bezels of average thickness bordering its 43-inch display screen.

Furthermore, the bezels are made of plastic and have a glossy-black finish. Moreover, the bottom bezel features a stylish “Samsung” inscription at the center that adds to the premium look of the television.

Moving to the feet, the Samsung NU6900 43 is equipped with pair of attachable feet. This set of feet is made of plastic and has a black textured finish.

However, one noticeable defect of the television’s feet is their height. Specifically, the feet are somewhat short, thereby reducing the space underneath the TV for a soundbar to fit.

On a positive note, the feet are quite sturdy and provide the TV with enough stability to reduce wobbling when bumped.

Proceeding to the rear of the TV, the Samsung NU6900 43 features a back panel that is made of plastic; it is also plain and has a black finish. Additionally, the back panel of the television has a slight vertical dent at the top part.

Furthermore, there is a form of cable management at the bottom of the television’s back panel that cuts across from edge to edge. This cable management will come in handy for properly organizing cables that are connected to the TV.

That said, if you love wall-mounting televisions, the Samsung NU6900 43 has 200 x 200 mm VESA holes on its back panel. These VESA holes enable you to mount the television on the wall.

Besides, the television won’t stick out the wall or look somewhat odd when wall-mounted. The reason for this is that the Samsung NU6900 43 has a slim build.

In terms of dimension and weight, the Samsung NU6900 43 measures 967.7 x 78.7 x 571.5 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 7302.8 g. Impressively, this Samsung television weighs less than most televisions of the same size.

For instance, the LG 43UK6500PLA, which is also a 43-inch television, weighs 9000 g. Hence, I will be rating the Samsung NU6900 43 an eight out of ten in this design review section.

Samsung NU6900 43: Display Features and Picture Quality

The Samsung NU6900 43 comes with a 43-inch display accompanied by a 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution. Hence, thanks to its 4K resolution, the display should be able to exhibit clear, crisp, and colorful picture quality.

Besides, apart from its impressive 4K resolution, this television’s display offers a high contrast ratio. In case you are wondering, the contrast ratio is the difference between the brightest and the darkest shade that a display can produce.

In light of that, the Samsung NU6900 43’s display recorded a high contrast of 6,107:1. Hence, with such a high contrast ratio, this display should be able to produce good deep blacks.

As a result, you will have no problem watching movies with plenty of dark scenes on the television. Sadly, probably because it already has a high contrast ratio, the Samsung NU6900 43’s display doesn’t support local dimming.

For clarity, local dimming is a picture technique that increases the black levels and contrast ratio of a display. Hence, if a display supports local dimming, the blacks that it renders will be extremely dark.

This further enhances the darkroom performance and overall picture quality of the display. Regrettably, as mentioned earlier, the Samsung NU6900 43’s display doesn’t support local dimming.

To add to its list of downsides, this television’s display offers poor viewing angles. Hence, whenever you are watching the Samsung NU6900 43 off-center, the display’s picture quality will reduce, and colors will look faint.

Another unimpressive display feature of this TV is its mediocre screen brightness of 273 nits. This makes it unsuitable for use in extremely bright rooms.

On the good side, the Samsung NU6900 43’s display supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). Briefly, HDR is a picture-enhancement technique that boosts the brightness and color accuracy of a display.

Hence, when watching HDR-supported content on the Samsung NU6900 43, the picture quality will be clear, realistic, and more lifelike. To be clear, HDR-supported content can be found on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix, and other major streaming services.

Moving on to motion performance, the Samsung NU6900 43’s display delivers a response time of 16.2 ms. Briefly, response time is the speed at which a display can fully transition from one color to another.

Hence, with a display response time of 16.2 ms, there will be minimal blur trails when watching fast-motion content like sports on this Samsung TV. Another factor that is similar to response time is the input lag.

Input lag is the delay between the time a display responds to an input signal and when the signal is sent. Furthermore, the input lag is a crucial factor to look out for before deciding whether a TV is good for gaming.

Basically, if the television’s display has an input lag of 15 milliseconds or less, the television is ideal for gaming. In other words, the lower the input lag there is, the better the gaming experience.

Sadly, the Samsung NU6900 43’s display offers an input lag of 22.5 milliseconds. Obviously, this input lag isn’t low enough for the television to be considered a good choice for gamers.

Nevertheless, the display’s input lag is low enough for casual but not competitive gaming.

In summary, the Samsung NU6900 43 offers a brilliant 4K display that has a high contrast ratio and supports HDR. However, the display has some defects which include its poor viewing angles and low input lag.

Consequently, the Samsung NU6900 43 deserves a rating of eight out of ten in this display review section.

Samsung NU6900 43: Sound Features

The Samsung NU6900 43 is equipped with a pair of 2 CH 20-watt speakers. These speakers deliver good sound quality and are loud enough to produce a room-filling sound.

However, the television doesn’t have a subwoofer, meaning its speakers won’t have enough power to produce sufficient bass. Thus, watching bass-heavy movies on the Samsung NU6900 43 might not be a good option.

However, if you are really into bass-heavy movies, I recommend you purchase a soundbar. On the bright side, the Samsung NU6900 43’s speakers can produce a well-balanced and clear dialogue.

Hence, when watching movies when two or more characters are conversing, you will be able to hear what they say clearly. In addition to its excellent dialogue production, the Samsung NU6900 43 features Dolby Digital Plus.

As a result, the television’s speakers will be able to deliver an immersive and cinematic audio quality. Thereby improving the sound and viewing experience of this Samsung TV.

Moving on, let us now talk about the distortion performance of this television. To do so, we have to highlight the Samsung NU6900 43’s result on a THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test.

Briefly, the Total Harmonic Distortion test measures the volume of distortion that a sound device or speaker can produce. Furthermore, on this test, a score of 1 percent or less means the sound devices produce a low amount of distortion.

Meanwhile, if the score of the sound devices is above 1 percent on the test, that means it produces a significant amount of distortion. Sadly, the Samsung NU6900 43 scored 1.189 percent on the THD test.

Hence, at a maximum volume level, the distortion that the television’s speakers produce will be noticeable. Meanwhile, at a moderate volume level, the distortion may reduce and might not be audible.

For clarity, distortion in this context is the deviation of sound frequencies from their original form. Specifically, distortion causes a sound device or speaker to deliver disturbing and annoying sound quality.

In conclusion, after thorough consideration of all I have said in this section, I will be rating the Samsung NU6900 43 a seven out of ten.

Samsung NU6900 43: Ports and Connectivity Features

For ports, the Samsung NU6900 43 comes with an inadequate amount of ports. To make matters worse, all the ports are located at the back of the TV.

Hence, even with the small number of ports that the television offers, users won’t be able to access them easily whenever the TV is wall-mounted. Now that we know the location of the ports, let us get to know the types of ports.

First and foremost, the Samsung NU6900 43 features two HDMI ports. Like most modern televisions, one of these HDMI ports is compatible with ARC (Audio Return Channel) port.

Therefore, users can connect the TV with a soundbar using the ARC-HDMI port. Besides the HDMI ports, the Samsung NU6900 43 also comes with a USB port for connecting external USB devices or charging mobile devices.

Additionally, the television features an antenna port, a fiber optical port, and an Ethernet port. As for wireless connectivity, the Samsung NU6900 43 has built-in 802.11 ac WiFi.

Sadly, this Samsung television doesn’t have Bluetooth. Away from the wireless connectivity and ports, let us now discuss the included remote control.

To start with, the Samsung NU6900 43 features a standard Samsung TM1240A remote control. This remote has a stout design with a matte-black plastic body.

In addition to that, the remote control is fitted with a total of 42 buttons. Some of these buttons include the power button, input button, playback button, channel rockers, and volume rockers.

That’s not all; the remote comes with a full number pad and a plus-shaped navigation button. However, the remote lacks dedicated buttons that allow for quick access to specific streaming apps.

Also, there isn’t a built-in mic in the remote, meaning it doesn’t support voice input.

In conclusion, the Samsung NU6900 43 offers a limited amount of ports that cannot be easily accessed if the TV is wall-mounted. Also, the television lacks Bluetooth for wireless connectivity.

Therefore, I will be rating the Samsung NU6900 43 a six out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.

Samsung NU6900 43: Smart Features

As expected, the Samsung NU6900 43 features the Tizen operating system. This operating system offers an easy-to-use interface that makes navigation seamless.

However, the interface of this OS lags a bit, and there are some delays when trying to select certain streaming apps. Speaking of streaming apps, the Tizen OS comes with quite a number of pre-loaded streaming apps and services.

These streaming services include Sling TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube, Vudu, and Google Play Movies & TV. Moreover, you can download more applications and streaming services from the Samsung Store if these pre-loaded ones aren’t enough.

Besides, the Samsung NU6900 43’s Tizen operating system support AirPlay. Hence, users can share multimedia content from their Apple devices to the television.

Similarly, with the help of the SmartThings app, users can also share/stream content from their Android devices to the TV. Interestingly, you can also use this SmartThings app to control the television in case you misplace your remote control.

In summary, the Samsung NU6900 43 has an operating system that offers lots of streaming services. However, the interface of the OS lags.

Thus, I will rate the Samsung NU6900 43 an eight out of ten in this smart features review section.
