Samsung Internet is the better fit for Android users who want Samsung-focused customization, visible tracker controls, Secret Mode, content-blocking options, and video features. Chrome is the better fit if you rely on Google services, want Chrome continuity with a computer, or prefer its documented Safe Browsing choices and cookie controls. Neither browser can be called universally faster, safer, or better for battery life on the available evidence. Your device, settings, websites, and any enabled blockers can all affect the experience.
What is the difference between Samsung Internet and Chrome?
Both are Android browsers for everyday web use, but their strongest features serve different needs. Samsung Internet emphasizes customization and Samsung-device features; Chrome emphasizes Google account and desktop continuity, along with clearly documented security and cookie settings.
The practical choice is not a contest with one winner for everyone. Consider the features you will actually use: how you manage tracking and content blocking, whether you watch video in the browser, what you want to sync, and which account ecosystem you already depend on.

Is Samsung Internet safer than Chrome?
The available documentation does not establish that one browser is categorically safer. Samsung Internet and Chrome both offer security-related features, but the documented controls differ, and protection also depends on how you configure and use a browser.

Samsung Internet’s documented protections
Samsung says Protected Browsing warns about malware and phishing and uses Google Safe Browsing with hashed URLs. Samsung also documents a built-in Tracking Blocker powered by Disconnect. These are distinct functions: warnings address known risky sites, while tracking controls concern tracking activity.
Secret Mode is a separate local-privacy feature. Samsung says that after authentication, it does not reveal browsing history, search history, cookies, cache, IDs and passwords, or autofill data. Bookmarks and saved pages are stored separately with encryption at the same security level as Samsung KNOX. This describes Samsung’s handling of specified browser data; it is not a promise that activity is invisible to websites or networks.
Chrome’s documented protections
Google documents three Safe Browsing options: Enhanced protection, Standard protection, or no protection. Google describes Enhanced protection as its most secure browsing experience and Standard protection as the default protection against known dangers. Google also says Safe Browsing warnings can help protect against malware, abusive sites and extensions, phishing, malicious and intrusive ads, and social engineering attacks.
These descriptions are not a controlled, head-to-head security test, so they do not prove that Chrome or Samsung Internet blocks more threats in practice. Choose based on the controls you want, keep browser protections enabled, and treat unexpected warnings seriously whichever browser you use.
How the security choices affect daily use
Samsung’s approach puts several privacy-related controls in the browser experience: a protected private mode, tracking controls, and warnings. Chrome gives you an explicit choice among Safe Browsing protection levels and separate cookie preferences. A person who wants to inspect tracking activity and add a compatible blocker may prefer Samsung Internet, while someone who wants to choose an Enhanced or Standard Safe Browsing level may find Chrome’s wording easier to follow.
Neither set of controls removes the need for ordinary security habits. A warning can identify a dangerous destination, but it cannot make a suspicious message trustworthy. Keep the browser and phone updated, avoid entering credentials after following an unexpected link, and review permissions or extensions you do not recognize.
Does Samsung Internet block ads?
Samsung Internet supports content blocking, but it should not be described as universally ad-free. Samsung documents a built-in Tracking Blocker and support for third-party extensions; content blocking can require a compatible third-party app or filter.
Recommended Free Tools
Samsung’s developer documentation says Samsung Internet for Android supports third-party extensions that let users customize browsing. That support gives users a route to add content-blocking tools, but it does not mean every filter is built in, available on every device, or enabled by default. Check the particular blocker’s compatibility and settings if a page still shows ads or other content.
In practice, content blocking is a configuration decision. You may need to install a separate filter app or extension, select a filter, and enable it in Samsung Internet. A filter can also change page behavior: it may remove advertising elements, alter a layout, or prevent a script that a site needs. If a shopping cart, sign-in page, or video player breaks, temporarily review the blocker setting for that site rather than concluding that the browser itself is incompatible.

Chrome’s cited official documentation describes Safe Browsing and cookie controls. It does not establish a general-purpose Android extension ad-blocker model equivalent to Samsung Internet’s documented content-blocker path. Safe Browsing warnings about malicious or intrusive ads are a security feature, not the same thing as a general ad filter.
What privacy controls does each browser offer?
Samsung Internet’s documented strengths are its Secret Mode and visible tracking controls. Chrome’s cited strengths are its Safe Browsing choices and controls for cookies, including third-party cookies and preferences for particular websites. Neither browser’s cited documentation promises anonymous browsing.
When does Secret Mode help?
Use Secret Mode when you want the browser not to expose or retain the specified local browsing records in its ordinary history and autofill experience. Samsung requires authentication to access the mode and describes separate, encrypted storage for bookmarks and saved pages made there.
Private browsing modes limit records kept locally; they do not hide activity from every party involved in a connection. A website, network operator, or account provider may still be able to observe activity. Do not treat Secret Mode or another browser’s private mode as a substitute for anonymity or as a way to bypass a site’s account-based records.
When do Chrome’s cookie controls help?
Chrome lets users delete cookies, allow or block third-party cookies, and set preferences for certain websites. These controls are useful when you want to adjust how sites store or use cookie data rather than rely only on private browsing.
Cookie settings can affect site behavior, including sign-ins and features that depend on stored site data. If a site stops working as expected after you change a setting, review the setting for that site and adjust it if needed. The cited Google documentation establishes that these controls exist; it does not support a claim that one browser’s settings produce a universally more private outcome.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Tracking controls versus private browsing
These features solve different problems. Secret Mode addresses what is stored or displayed on the device. A Tracking Blocker or content filter addresses certain requests and page elements. Cookie controls determine whether a site can store or use cookie data under the choices you make. Safe Browsing focuses on warnings about known dangers. Using one feature does not automatically activate the others, so decide which concern you are trying to address before changing settings.
Which browser offers better customization and video features?
Samsung Internet is the stronger documented choice for Android-specific interface customization and browser video features. Samsung lists a movable URL bar and menu, Quick Access, translation, security and shopping-assistant add-ons, biometric web login, and Video Assistant.
A movable URL bar and menu can make one-handed use more comfortable, particularly on a large phone. Quick Access and translation are convenience features for repeat visits and unfamiliar pages, while biometric web login and the shopping or security add-ons target particular workflows. Video Assistant is the clearest reason to test Samsung Internet if browser-based video controls matter to you.

The product list shows what Samsung offers, but not that every feature behaves identically across every device, website, or software version. If a specific capability matters, check whether it appears in your installation and works on the sites you use. Chrome may still be preferable if its familiar interface and Google account integration matter more than Samsung Internet’s listed customization options.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →How do extensions and content blockers work?
Samsung explicitly describes support for third-party extensions on Android. That gives you an extension-based route to customize the browser, including compatible content-blocking tools. The extension is not the same as a guarantee that a particular filter will work forever: compatibility, filter maintenance, browser version, and site design can all affect results.
Before installing a blocker, identify the task you want it to perform. A tracker-focused tool, an advertising filter, and a general content-control tool may behave differently. Read the extension’s permissions and settings, enable only what you need, and keep a note of which blocker is active when troubleshooting a page. If you disable a filter and a page works again, the result points to a configuration conflict rather than a universal browser limitation.
The documented Chrome materials in this comparison establish Safe Browsing and cookie controls, not an equivalent general-purpose Android extension path. That does not answer every possible Chrome configuration question; it simply means you should not promise Samsung-style content-blocker support when describing Chrome on Android.
Can Samsung Internet sync with a computer?
Yes, Samsung says users can open bookmarks on a computer using the Samsung Internet extension for PC Chrome after signing in to a Samsung Account. That is a documented bookmark route; do not assume it also syncs browsing history, passwords, or open tabs in the same way.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To use the documented route, you need Samsung Internet on the Android device, the Samsung Internet extension for PC Chrome, and a Samsung Account sign-in. The important requirement is account matching: signing in is part of the feature description, not an optional detail. After setup, verify that the bookmarks you care about appear on the computer before relying on the workflow.
This distinction matters when choosing a browser for more than one device. If your main goal is to have bookmarks available on a computer, Samsung describes a specific setup. If you depend on broader Chrome desktop continuity through Google services, Chrome is the more natural fit based on the ecosystems each browser documents. Do not switch browsers assuming that passwords, history, tabs, and bookmarks will all follow the same synchronization rules.
Does Samsung Internet work on every Android phone?
Samsung’s product information establishes Android support, but the documented material does not specify identical feature coverage on every manufacturer’s phone. A non-Samsung Android user should check current app availability and then verify the features that matter, such as Secret Mode, the Tracking Blocker, Video Assistant, and extension support.
Even on a Galaxy phone, software version, region, account state, and website behavior can affect what appears. Treat the feature list as a reason to test, not as a promise that every item will be exposed in every installation. Chrome may be the simpler choice if you need a familiar Google-centered workflow across Android and a computer.

Which browser is faster, and which uses less battery?
No cited controlled, same-device benchmark establishes that Samsung Internet is faster or uses less battery than Chrome across Android devices. Browser version, phone model, network conditions, page content, settings, and active blockers can change results, so a single result on one setup would not settle the question for everyone.
Samsung describes Internet as its “best performing browser on Galaxy,” but its product page does not publish a Samsung-versus-Chrome test result. That marketing phrase is not evidence of a controlled comparison. Likewise, there is no basis here for claiming Chrome is universally faster or more efficient.
How to compare them on your own phone
If speed, battery life, or compatibility with a particular site will decide the choice, compare both browsers under the conditions you actually care about rather than relying on a general ranking.
- Use the same phone, network, and website in both browsers, and test close together in time so changing network conditions are less likely to skew the comparison.
- Keep the page and browser settings as similar as practical. If you use a content blocker in Samsung Internet, note that it may change what the page loads and how quickly it appears.
- Repeat the check on the sites and tasks that matter to you, such as video playback or a frequently used sign-in flow. A single page is not a universal compatibility test.
- For battery impact, compare similar sessions and workloads. Do not treat one short browsing session as proof of a general battery advantage.
- Record practical outcomes, such as whether a page renders correctly, a video continues playing, or a sign-in completes. A browser that is marginally quicker but unreliable for your key site may be the worse choice.
- Choose the browser that performs reliably for your use, while recognizing that a result may change after an update, on another network, or with different settings.
What about compatibility with websites and accounts?
Neither browser is documented here as universally more compatible. Compatibility can change with the site, its scripts, your cookies, an enabled blocker, and the browser version. Test the services you use most: work portals, banking or shopping checkouts, video sites, password prompts, and pages that require translation or biometric login.
Account continuity is a separate question from page compatibility. Chrome is a natural fit when your daily work already centers on Google services and Chrome on a computer. Samsung Internet can fit better when the Android interface, Samsung Account bookmark route, or Samsung-specific features are the reason you chose it. You can also keep both installed and use each for a different workflow.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is either browser free, and are extensions an extra cost?
The documented comparison does not establish a subscription price, paid tier, or universal fee for either browser. It does establish that Samsung Internet can use third-party extensions or filter apps, but the terms for any particular extension are separate from the browser itself. Check the current app and extension listings before assuming that a tool is free or that every feature has the same terms on every device.
Which browser should you choose?
Choose according to the feature that solves a real problem for you, rather than an unsupported promise of universal speed or safety.
- Choose Samsung Internet if you want Android interface customization, Secret Mode, visible tracker controls, an extension-based content-blocking route, Video Assistant, or Samsung device integration.
- Choose Chrome if you rely on Google services and Chrome on a computer, or value Chrome’s documented Safe Browsing options and cookie controls.
- Choose Samsung Internet and Chrome together if separate workflows are useful. For example, you might use Samsung Internet for a customized, tracker-conscious Android session and Chrome for Google-centered desktop continuity.
- Try both if performance or a particular site matters more than ecosystem features. Test them on the same device and network with the settings you intend to keep.
There is no need to make the choice permanent: a browser can be selected for its day-to-day strengths while another remains useful for a specific workflow. The important distinction is which ecosystem and controls match your habits—not a universal ranking unsupported by comparative testing.

Does Samsung Internet block every ad automatically?
No. Samsung documents a Tracking Blocker and support for third-party extensions or filter apps. A compatible blocker may need to be installed and enabled, and results can vary by filter, site, device, and settings.
Is Samsung Internet safer than Chrome?
The documented features do not prove a universal safety winner. Samsung offers Protected Browsing, Secret Mode, and tracking controls; Chrome offers Safe Browsing levels and cookie controls. Keep protections enabled and judge the controls that fit your needs.
Does using Secret Mode hide my activity from my internet provider?
No such protection is promised in Samsung’s description of Secret Mode. Its documented purpose concerns specified browser data and access to the mode, not preventing networks or websites from observing connections.
Will Samsung Internet sync my passwords and open tabs to PC Chrome?
Samsung’s documented computer-continuity feature covers bookmarks through its extension for PC Chrome after Samsung Account sign-in. The cited information does not establish equivalent syncing for passwords or open tabs.
Can I keep Chrome and Samsung Internet installed at the same time?
The comparison does not require choosing only one installed browser. Keeping both can be useful if you want Samsung Internet’s Android-specific features for some tasks and Chrome’s Google or desktop workflow for others.
Which browser is fastest on Android?
No controlled, same-device comparison here proves a universal speed winner. Test both on the same phone, network, sites, browser settings, and blocker configuration you actually use.
Which browser uses less battery?
The available documented evidence does not establish a universal battery winner. Similar workloads, page content, network conditions, updates, and active blockers can all change battery use.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Does Chrome’s Safe Browsing block ordinary advertisements?
Safe Browsing warnings about malicious or intrusive ads are a security feature. The documented Chrome materials do not establish a general-purpose Android ad-filtering extension model equivalent to Samsung Internet’s content-blocker path.
Will changing Chrome cookie settings break websites?
It can affect sign-ins and features that depend on stored site data. Chrome lets you allow or block third-party cookies and set preferences for particular sites, so review a site-specific setting if a page stops working as expected.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Samsung Internet wins for Android-focused customization, Secret Mode, tracker visibility, content-blocking options, and Video Assistant. Chrome wins for Google services, desktop continuity, documented Safe Browsing levels, and cookie controls. For speed, battery, and compatibility, test both on your own phone instead of trusting a universal ranking.
