Verdict: The Samsung HW-QS90H is a strong choice if you want forceful bass and convincing Dolby Atmos height effects from one enclosure. Its four integrated woofers avoid the need for a separate subwoofer, and its Convertible Fit design supports either furniture or wall placement. The trade-offs are equally clear: no subwoofer or rear speakers are included, expansion is limited, HDMI passthrough stops at 4K/60Hz, and stereo imaging is not as wide or smooth as some rivals.
Samsung positions the HW-QS90H as a 7.1.2-channel, 13-speaker soundbar for buyers who value a compact installation over a full component surround system. This review explains its bass, Atmos and DTS:X performance, placement options, connectivity, gaming limitations, optional expansion, pricing and the situations in which another design makes more sense.
What is the Samsung HW-QS90H?
The HW-QS90H is Samsung’s 2026 flagship-style all-in-one soundbar, specified as a 7.1.2-channel system with 13 speakers built into the main enclosure. Four of those speakers are woofers, allowing Samsung to produce substantial low-frequency energy without placing a separate bass cabinet in the room.
| Specification | HW-QS90H detail |
|---|---|
| Channel layout | 7.1.2 |
| Total speakers | 13 |
| Built-in woofers | Four |
| Dolby formats | Dolby Atmos |
| DTS format | DTS:X |
| HDMI | One HDMI input and one HDMI eARC output |
| Video passthrough | Up to 4K at 60Hz |
| Wireless and network audio | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect |
| Voice-assistant support | Alexa and Google Assistant |
| Main-bar dimensions | 1,245 x 68.8 x 125mm |
| Main-bar weight | 6.7kg |
| Included bass speaker | No separate wireless subwoofer |
| Included surround speakers | No rear speakers |
The 1,245mm width is close to the width of a typical 65-inch television, while the 68.8mm height should fit below most screens. Measure the gap between your TV panel and stand before buying, because a low television or a stand with a narrow soundbar shelf can still create a clearance problem.

Does the HW-QS90H need a subwoofer?
No. The package is designed to work without a separate subwoofer. Samsung uses four integrated woofers, and independent listening reports describe bass that is deep enough to be felt during action scenes rather than merely heard.
That approach is useful in apartments, bedrooms and living rooms where a second cabinet would be difficult to place or likely to disturb other people. It also simplifies setup: there is no wireless subwoofer to pair, position or troubleshoot. The single-bar layout keeps the front of the room visually clean.
There is a physical limit to an all-in-one enclosure. A dedicated subwoofer can move more air at very low frequencies and gives you more freedom to place bass where the room responds best. The HW-QS90H therefore suits buyers who want unusually full bass from one box, not buyers seeking the maximum low-end impact available from a multi-box cinema system.

How good are Dolby Atmos and DTS:X on the HW-QS90H?
The HW-QS90H produces a convincing height effect for a single bar, with reviewers highlighting an expansive presentation and strong overhead cues. It supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, so it can decode the two major object-based home-cinema formats rather than restricting you to Atmos sources.
Its height performance is one of the product’s relative strengths. Up-firing and height-directed drivers in the bar create the impression of sound above the screen when the room, ceiling and seating position cooperate. The result is not identical to having separate speakers physically installed in the ceiling, but it can make rain, aircraft, effects and musical ambience feel elevated without rear hardware.
Because no surround speakers are supplied, the wraparound field is front-loaded compared with a package that includes discrete rear channels. Reflections from side walls and the ceiling affect how enveloping the presentation feels, so a symmetrical room with a reasonably reflective ceiling will generally give the bar more to work with than an open-plan or heavily treated room.

How does Convertible Fit work for tabletop and wall placement?
Convertible Fit lets you use the HW-QS90H flat on furniture or rotate it for wall mounting. A built-in gyro sensor detects the orientation and changes driver assignment so the intended channel layout is preserved in either position.
- Measure the location. Confirm that the shelf can support a 6.7kg bar and that the 1,245mm width does not overhang an unstable surface.
- Choose the orientation. Leave the bar in its normal tabletop position for a TV stand, or rotate it according to Samsung’s wall-mount instructions when fixing it below a wall-mounted screen.
- Keep the front unobstructed. Do not place ornaments, a centre-speaker grille or a deep TV stand directly in front of the drivers; obstructions can reduce clarity and height reflections.
- Check screen clearance. At 68.8mm high, the bar fits below many televisions, but the TV’s feet and the shelf depth determine whether the screen blocks the display or remote sensor.
- Recheck channel orientation. Let the gyro-based layout do its work after the bar is repositioned, then play a familiar Atmos scene to confirm that dialogue remains centred and overhead effects are elevated.
Expert testing found the Convertible Fit feature works as intended. The design is particularly useful for renters or anyone likely to move between a media cabinet and a wall-mounted display, because the same bar does not require a different speaker package for each arrangement.
What does the HW-QS90H sound like with movies and television?
Movie playback is the bar’s strongest use case. Action sequences have substantial impact, low-frequency rumble reaches below the vocal range, and the broad front presentation makes a single enclosure sound larger than its footprint suggests.
Voice Enhancement can make speech easier to follow, especially in a busy mix. The trade-off reported by What Hi-Fi? is that voices become less natural when the mode is enabled. Treat it as a situational control for difficult programmes rather than a setting that should remain on permanently.
RTINGS places the QS90H among the stronger bars in its comparison group for low-frequency rumble and identifies its height output as a relative advantage. The same testing found weaker stereo tracking and a less even default balance than some alternatives. Music played in two-channel mode can therefore sound less precisely placed across the left and right sides than it does through a bar designed primarily around a wide stereo image.
Is the HW-QS90H good for gaming?
It is capable for ordinary console and PC audio, but the HDMI specification matters to anyone with a 4K/120Hz source. The bar’s passthrough is limited to 4K/60Hz, so it cannot carry a 4K/120Hz signal from a current-generation console at its full refresh rate.

You can connect a 4K/120Hz console directly to a compatible television and send sound back to the bar over HDMI eARC. That arrangement preserves the television’s high-refresh video path, while the QS90H handles the audio return. If your display has too few HDMI 2.1 inputs, the soundbar’s 4K/60Hz ceiling becomes a more significant limitation.
Expert Reviews also describes the dedicated game mode as underwhelming. The bar still delivers punchy effects and height cues, but the mode does not provide a compelling reason to choose it over a well-tuned movie or standard mode.
What connections and streaming features are included?
The rear panel provides one HDMI input for a source device and one HDMI eARC output for the television. HDMI eARC is the connection to use when the TV is the switching hub, because it returns the television’s audio to the soundbar while leaving other sources connected to the TV.

Wireless playback is unusually broad for an all-in-one bar in this class. The QS90H supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3, plus AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect. Alexa and Google Assistant support add voice-control options, although the exact commands available depend on the connected service and home network.
The absence of a digital display is a daily-use compromise. You cannot read a full input or mode name from a front panel; status information must be interpreted through the television, remote-control feedback or the relevant control interface.
Can you add rear speakers later?
Yes, but the expansion path is limited. RTINGS says the HW-QS90H can add two wireless satellite speakers, and Samsung lists the SWA-9500S as the compatible rear-speaker system. Those speakers are optional and are not included with the soundbar.

Adding the satellites can improve side and rear envelopment for films and games, but it does not turn the QS90H into an open-ended component system. The number of compatible wireless satellites is limited to two, and the core bar still supplies the integrated bass and front height channels.

How does the HW-QS90H compare with Sonos Arc Ultra and Klipsch Flexus Core 300?
The choice depends on whether you value bass from one enclosure, a wide stereo image, DTS:X, or high-refresh video passthrough. The independent comparison findings below cover the distinctions established for these three bars.
| Product | What the comparison establishes |
|---|---|
| Samsung HW-QS90H | Deeper bass than the Sonos Arc Ultra in the comparison set; stronger height output; supports DTS:X; includes an HDMI input; passthrough is limited to 4K/60Hz; stereo tracking and expansion flexibility are weaker points. |
| Sonos Arc Ultra | Wider soundstage and better stereo tracking than the Samsung in the comparison; does not support DTS:X. |
| Klipsch Flexus Core 300 | Smoother stereo tracking than the Samsung; supports 4K/120Hz passthrough and provides a subwoofer output. |
Choose the Samsung when a single enclosure must produce powerful bass and Atmos height effects, or when DTS:X and a built-in HDMI input matter. Choose the Sonos alternative when the broadest stereo spread is more important than DTS:X. Choose the Klipsch alternative when 4K/120Hz passthrough, smoother stereo movement or a conventional subwoofer-output upgrade path takes priority.

Who should buy the Samsung HW-QS90H?
The HW-QS90H is a good fit for someone who wants a large, bass-heavy cinema sound from one enclosure, has limited room for a subwoofer, or wants Dolby Atmos and DTS:X without installing a full speaker set. Its wall/tabletop flexibility and broad network streaming support make it practical in rooms where a conventional surround package would be visually or physically intrusive.
It is less suitable for buyers who want true rear-channel immersion out of the box, unlimited upgrade flexibility, the widest stereo image, or 4K/120Hz passthrough for a console connected through the bar. Those priorities point toward a package with discrete speakers or a rival that supports high-refresh HDMI and a more conventional subwoofer path.
What is the final verdict on the HW-QS90H?
The Samsung HW-QS90H succeeds at its central brief: it creates deep, physical bass and convincing Atmos height from a single, wall-mountable enclosure. Its 13-speaker, 7.1.2-channel design, DTS:X support and wide streaming compatibility give it a substantial feature set, while Convertible Fit removes a common placement constraint.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe compromises are not hidden. There is no separate subwoofer or rear-speaker pair in the box, expansion stops at two compatible wireless satellites, gaming passthrough is capped at 4K/60Hz, and stereo performance is not class-leading. If those limits match your room and sources, the QS90H is one of the more capable all-in-one soundbars of its 2026 generation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run a 4K/120Hz console through the HW-QS90H?
Not at full 4K/120Hz through the soundbar’s HDMI passthrough, which tops out at 4K/60Hz. Connect the console directly to a suitable TV HDMI 2.1 port and use the TV’s eARC connection to return game audio to the bar instead.
What does Samsung’s security-update date mean for this soundbar?
Samsung lists security updates through December 31, 2031. That date describes the published security-support period; it is not a statement about warranty length, guaranteed feature additions or the lifespan of the hardware.
Will the HW-QS90H fit below a 65-inch TV?
Its 1,245mm width is close to the width of a 65-inch television, and its 68.8mm height fits below many screens. Check the television’s feet, shelf depth and lower-bezel clearance rather than relying on screen size alone.
When should I turn on Voice Enhancement?
Use it when dialogue is being masked by effects or music, such as a busy action mix or a programme recorded at a low speech level. Since testing found voices less natural with the mode enabled, switch it off for films and music when intelligibility is already good.
