If you are choosing among Samsung’s current gaming televisions, start with four families rather than a forced top-five ranking. The premium S95F is the strongest fit for a compatible PC gamer who wants Samsung’s highest listed 4K OLED refresh tier; the S90F brings OLED to more compact screen sizes; the QN90F is the practical 4K Neo QLED choice for bright rooms; and the QN990F is the large-screen 8K option. Samsung’s current US comparison names those four families, and the available information does not establish a fifth US model with comparable specifications, pricing, and availability.

The right choice depends less on a headline motion number than on your room, screen size, graphics hardware, games, ports, and source resolution. The comparison below separates Samsung’s published specifications from what your console or PC can actually deliver.

Which Gaming TV is right for you?

Choose the S95F when premium OLED contrast, glare reduction, and the highest listed 4K PC refresh ceiling matter most. Choose the S90F when you want OLED but need a 42-inch or 48-inch option, or when its lower refresh tier is sufficient. Choose the QN90F for a bright room, a broad size range, or a 4K Neo QLED panel. Choose the QN990F only when you specifically want a very large 8K screen and have a source that can make meaningful use of it.

Family Panel category Samsung-listed sizes Published motion figure Gaming-relevant notes
QN990F Neo QLED 8K 65, 75, 85, 98 inches Motion Xcelerator 240Hz; Samsung notes the 98-inch model at 120Hz Large-screen 8K choice; verify size-specific behavior and whether your hardware and content can use it.
QN90F Neo QLED 4K 43, 50, 55, 65, 75, 85, 98, 115 inches Up to 165Hz; the 115-inch model is listed at 144Hz Bright-room-oriented Neo QLED family with Samsung’s Glare Free designation.
S95F OLED 4K 55, 65, 77, 83 inches Up to 165Hz for compatible PC gaming Premium OLED candidate, Glare Free, and four HDMI 2.1 ports.
S90F OLED 4K 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, 83 inches Up to 144Hz Four HDMI 2.1 ports for the OLED family; the specification sheet requires a compatible PC and VRR for the top mode. The 42- and 48-inch versions use a distinct OLED HDR label.

These are Samsung’s published figures, not independent laboratory measurements. “Up to” describes a ceiling under the right conditions, and a motion-marketing label should not be treated as the frame rate of every game or input.

Why are there four models here instead of five?

Samsung’s current US gaming-TV comparison identifies four families: QN990F, QN90F, S95F, and S90F. A defensible fifth pick would require a current US model with comparable, verifiable specifications and availability; the available corporate material does not establish one. Presenting an unverified fifth television as a ranked recommendation would create a false sense of completeness.

That does not mean Samsung sells only four television sizes or four individual SKUs. Each family contains multiple diagonal sizes, regional model numbers, and sometimes size-specific specifications. Treat the family names as the comparison level, then check the exact model number before ordering.

What should you look for in a gaming TV?

Latency and refresh rate are useful starting points, but they answer different questions. Latency is how quickly the display reacts to an input; refresh rate is how often it can show a new frame. Samsung highlights both, along with automatic low-latency behavior, in its gaming guidance.

Refresh rate that matches the source

The S95F’s listed ceiling is aimed at compatible PC gaming, while the S90F, QN90F, and QN990F publish their own family or size-specific motion tiers. Your game, graphics card, cable path, and selected resolution must all support the target mode. A television cannot create 165 or 240 frames per second from a game that outputs fewer frames.

Variable Refresh Rate

VRR synchronizes the panel’s refresh timing with a fluctuating game frame rate, reducing visible tearing and uneven pacing when the source supports it. Confirm VRR support in the exact television specification and in the PC or console settings rather than assuming that a high motion figure includes every VRR mode.

HDMI 2.1 and port planning

Samsung lists four HDMI 2.1 ports for its OLED families. That gives an S95F or S90F owner more room to connect several modern sources without immediately adding a switch, but it still matters which devices need the bandwidth and whether an AV receiver is in the signal path. Check the exact port labels and the source’s output mode during setup.

Automatic Low Latency Mode

Samsung describes ALLM as automatically selecting optimal latency settings so the television can react quickly to game commands. It is a convenience feature, not a guarantee that every game, input device, or picture-processing option has identical delay.

Is the Samsung S95F the best choice for a premium PC gaming setup?

For a PC gamer who can supply the required signal, the S95F is the clearest premium pick in this comparison. It combines a 4K OLED panel with Samsung’s highest listed 4K OLED PC refresh tier, Glare Free treatment, and four HDMI 2.1 inputs.

Why it stands out

  • OLED is suited to players who value strong contrast and deep dark-scene separation.
  • The published top mode is intended for compatible PC hardware and games, not as a guaranteed console frame rate.
  • Four HDMI 2.1 ports simplify a multi-device setup involving a gaming PC, console, and other high-bandwidth sources.
  • Glare Free is useful when reflections would otherwise distract from dark scenes or competitive play.

What to verify before buying

  • Confirm that the graphics card, game, cable, and chosen 4K mode can reach the advertised ceiling.
  • Check the exact regional SKU and size; Samsung’s documented US 55-inch listing uses model number QN55S95FAFXZA.
  • Make sure the room and viewing distance suit the selected diagonal rather than choosing solely on refresh marketing.

The S95F is therefore a hardware-dependent recommendation. If your PC cannot produce the required signal, you are paying for headroom you may not use immediately.

Is the Samsung S90F a better fit for smaller rooms?

The S90F is the more flexible OLED family when a compact display matters. Samsung lists 42- and 48-inch versions in addition to larger sizes, and its published ceiling is below the S95F’s premium PC tier.

Reasons to choose it

  • The smaller diagonal options work well for a desk or close seating position where a 55-inch-class screen would be unwieldy.
  • OLED provides the same basic display category advantages without requiring the S95F’s top listed refresh mode.
  • Four HDMI 2.1 ports support a multi-source gaming setup.

Important size and regional checks

Samsung’s specification sheet says the highest S90F mode requires a compatible gaming PC supporting 4K resolution, the listed motion rate, and VRR. That requirement is easy to miss if you read only a retailer’s headline. Samsung also uses a distinct OLED HDR label for the 42- and 48-inch variants, so do not assume every size has identical HDR wording or regional specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pick the S90F when the available size, seating distance, and price fit better than the S95F’s premium positioning. Pick the S95F instead when your PC is built around the higher 4K refresh ceiling and you are comfortable paying for that capability.

Is the QN90F the right Samsung gaming TV for a bright room?

The QN90F is Samsung’s 4K Neo QLED family in this comparison and the most natural starting point for a bright room or a buyer who wants an unusually broad range of screen sizes. Samsung specifically positions QLED and Neo QLED televisions for brighter viewing environments and lists Glare Free for this family.

Where it makes sense

  • Choose it when windows, lamps, or daytime viewing make reflection control a priority.
  • Consider it when you need a size outside the OLED families’ listed range, including very small or very large diagonals.
  • Use the 4K resolution as the practical match for current 4K gaming sources without moving to an 8K workflow.

Read the size-specific refresh note carefully

Samsung lists the family at up to 165Hz, but the 115-inch version is listed at 144Hz. That is a concrete example of why a family-level headline cannot substitute for the exact size’s specification sheet. If the largest screen is your target, use its own refresh figure when checking PC compatibility.

The QN90F is not automatically the best value because it has a high published number. Compare its live price, viewing conditions, diagonal, and source requirements with an OLED of the same size before deciding.

When does the QN990F 8K make sense for gaming?

The QN990F is the specialist choice: a Neo QLED 8K family for buyers who want a very large screen and are prepared to verify the entire signal chain. Its 98-inch specification is listed differently from the smaller sizes, so the exact diagonal matters.

Potential advantages

  • An 8K panel can be attractive when screen size and viewing distance are the primary goals.
  • Neo QLED technology is positioned for bright-room use, which can be useful in a large open space.
  • The family’s published motion figure provides substantial headroom on paper, subject to the source and size-specific limit.

Why it requires more scrutiny

  • Most buyers need to verify whether their games and graphics hardware can output a signal that benefits from the panel’s resolution.
  • The 98-inch model is listed at 120Hz rather than the motion figure shown for the family, so do not generalize the smaller-size specification.
  • A large 8K purchase should be based on seating distance, room layout, and current content—not just the largest number in a product name.

If you mainly play 4K games and sit relatively close to the screen, the QN90F may be the simpler match. The QN990F is for a specific large-screen and 8K use case, not a universal upgrade over every 4K model.

How do the four Samsung families compare for different buyers?

Buyer situation Most logical starting point Reason Check before purchase
Competitive PC player seeking the highest listed 4K OLED tier S95F Premium OLED, Glare Free, and the highest documented 4K OLED PC ceiling in this group Graphics card, game, cable, and display mode must support the ceiling
Desk gamer or smaller-room setup S90F OLED family with 42- and 48-inch choices Size-specific HDR label, regional specification, and PC/VRR requirement
Bright room or very broad size requirement QN90F 4K Neo QLED, Glare Free designation, and the widest listed size range Exact diagonal’s refresh figure, especially the 115-inch version
Large-screen 8K project QN990F Neo QLED 8K family with sizes reaching 98 inches 98-inch refresh behavior, seating distance, and usable 8K source

How should you choose between OLED and Neo QLED?

Start with the room and the image characteristics you value, then check gaming hardware. OLED families are the direct fit for buyers prioritizing OLED presentation and premium PC refresh support. Neo QLED families are the logical comparison when daytime brightness, reflection control, or very large size is more important.

Choose OLED when

  • You play in a controlled room and care strongly about dark-scene contrast.
  • Your PC can actually feed the high-refresh mode you want.
  • You want the compact 42- or 48-inch class available in the S90F family.

Choose Neo QLED when

  • The room is bright or has difficult reflections.
  • You want a size not offered by the OLED families, including the QN90F’s very large options.
  • You prefer a 4K or 8K path based on room scale and content rather than OLED as the deciding factor.

Neither category removes the need to check the exact size. Samsung publishes family-level claims alongside exceptions for particular diagonals, and those exceptions can change the answer for a very large screen.

How can you confirm that your PC will use the advertised refresh rate?

  1. Identify the exact television size and model number. Use the specification sheet for that SKU, not only the family name or a retailer title.
  2. Check the graphics card output. Confirm that it supports the television’s resolution, target refresh, and VRR mode simultaneously.
  3. Check the game. A game must offer a frame-rate mode that can make use of the selected refresh setting; the panel’s ceiling does not raise the game’s own output.
  4. Use an appropriate HDMI path. Connect directly to a suitable HDMI 2.1 port when the mode requires that bandwidth, and account for any receiver or switch between the PC and TV.
  5. Select the mode in the operating system and game. Set the intended resolution and refresh rate, then enable VRR where supported.
  6. Verify the result on the TV and PC. Check the input information and the graphics settings so you know the source is delivering the mode you intended rather than silently falling back to a lower one.

This process is especially important for the S95F, whose headline refresh figure is explicitly tied to compatible PC gaming, and for the S90F, whose specification sheet calls out PC and VRR support.

How do you set up a Samsung TV for low-latency gaming?

  1. Connect the primary gaming source to the TV. Use one of the television’s high-bandwidth HDMI inputs and avoid unnecessary intermediate devices while troubleshooting.
  2. Enable the source’s output mode. Set the console or PC to a resolution and refresh rate it actually supports.
  3. Allow ALLM to switch modes automatically. Samsung says ALLM selects optimal latency settings when the connected source supports the feature.
  4. Turn on VRR on both ends when available. The TV and the source must agree on the feature; enabling it on only one device does not create synchronization.
  5. Confirm the on-screen input information. Check that the television recognizes the intended signal rather than assuming the cable or port negotiated it correctly.
  6. Test each source separately. A PC, console, receiver, and streaming device can negotiate different modes, so verify each one before judging the television.

What does Samsung Gaming Hub require?

Samsung Gaming Hub provides access to cloud-gaming services through the television. Samsung says you need a compatible controller and a high-speed internet connection, and that additional subscriptions may be required depending on the service.

That makes Gaming Hub a convenience for people who want to stream games without a dedicated console or gaming PC, but it is not a promise that every service or game is included with the television. Check the service’s own account and subscription conditions before treating the hub as a complete replacement for local hardware.

What are the most common buying mistakes?

  • Treating motion rate as guaranteed frame rate. Published motion figures are ceilings or processing labels; the game and source still determine actual frames.
  • Assuming every size in a family behaves identically. The QN990F 98-inch and QN90F 115-inch entries have different listed refresh figures, and the S90F’s smaller sizes have distinct HDR labeling.
  • Buying for a console based on a PC headline. Samsung’s highest OLED figures are described for compatible PC gaming and should not be presented as guaranteed console output.
  • Skipping the exact SKU check. Regional model numbers can carry different specifications. Confirm the listing, documentation, and return policy for the unit you will receive.
  • Ignoring the room. A technically impressive panel can be uncomfortable if its diagonal overwhelms the seating distance or reflections dominate the image.
  • Putting an incompatible device in the signal path. A receiver, switch, or cable can limit the negotiated resolution, refresh, or VRR mode even when the TV and source support it individually.
  • Assuming cloud gaming is free. Gaming Hub may require a controller, fast internet, and separate service subscriptions.

What is the final buying framework?

First choose the panel category that suits your room: OLED for the S95F or S90F when that presentation and PC capability are priorities, or Neo QLED for the bright-room and large-screen use cases covered by QN90F and QN990F. Next select the exact diagonal, because Samsung lists exceptions by size. Finally match the TV to the source: resolution, refresh, VRR, HDMI path, and the games you actually play.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the four-family comparison as a shortlist, not as a substitute for checking live pricing, stock, regional SKU details, and the specifications of your own hardware. That approach prevents a high headline number from becoming an expensive feature you cannot use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are current prices included for these Samsung gaming TVs?

No. The available official comparison establishes family specifications and sizes but does not provide a reliable, current price set for every US size. Check the exact model number at the time of purchase because promotions, stock, and regional availability change.

Why can two sizes in the same Samsung family have different refresh figures?

Panel size can use a different hardware configuration, so Samsung lists exceptions rather than promising one identical mode across every diagonal. The QN990F 98-inch and QN90F 115-inch entries illustrate why the size-specific sheet matters.

Do I need a special controller for Samsung Gaming Hub?

Samsung says Gaming Hub requires a compatible controller and high-speed internet. The cloud service you select can also require its own subscription, so verify compatibility and account terms before relying on it.

How can I tell whether a retailer listing matches the TV I researched?

Compare the full model number, diagonal, panel family, and regional specification sheet rather than relying on a shortened product name. This is particularly important for OLED sizes with different HDR labels and for the large QN90F and QN990F variants.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
