The Samsung Galaxy S26 series is already available. Samsung announced the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra on February 25, 2026, opened preorders the same day, and began general U.S. sales on March 11, 2026. U.S. launch prices started at $899.99 for the Galaxy S26, $1,099.99 for the S26+, and $1,299.99 for the S26 Ultra. Samsung later described the family as available worldwide.

The base Galaxy S26 is the compact, least expensive option. The S26+ adds a larger QHD+ display, a bigger battery, and faster charging. The S26 Ultra is the feature leader, with Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display, a 200MP camera system, dual telephoto cameras, an integrated S Pen, and the fastest charging in the range.

Prices and availability in this guide are U.S.-focused and were checked against information available on August 10, 2026. Promotional pricing changes frequently.

Galaxy S26 release date and availability

There is no remaining “expected release date” for the Galaxy S26. The launch is complete:

  • Announcement and Unpacked: February 25, 2026
  • Preorders: February 25, 2026
  • General U.S. availability: March 11, 2026
  • Models: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra

The name “Galaxy S26” is often used to describe the entire family, but the three phones differ substantially in screen size, cameras, charging, and features. The detailed comparison below separates the base S26 from the S26+ and Ultra.

Galaxy S26 prices: U.S. MSRP versus real-world offers

These are the U.S. launch MSRPs, before sales tax. They are useful for comparing models, but they are not necessarily the price you will pay today.

Model Storage/RAM U.S. launch MSRP
Galaxy S26 256GB / 12GB $899.99
Galaxy S26 512GB / 12GB $1,099.99
Galaxy S26+ 256GB / 12GB $1,099.99
Galaxy S26+ 512GB / 12GB $1,299.99
Galaxy S26 Ultra 256GB / 12GB $1,299.99
Galaxy S26 Ultra 512GB / 12GB $1,499.99
Galaxy S26 Ultra 1TB / 16GB $1,799.99

Samsung’s launch announcement and U.S. product listings provide the MSRP and storage tiers. The entry-level S26 starts at 256GB in the U.S., rather than the 128GB configuration used by some previous entry-level Galaxy models.

What you may actually pay

Samsung, carriers, and retailers can reduce the effective price through different mechanisms:

  • Unlocked direct price: the amount paid to Samsung or a retailer without a carrier contract.
  • Trade-in credit: dependent on the exact old phone, its condition, and the terms of the promotion. “Up to” is not a guaranteed credit.
  • Carrier bill credits: may make a phone appear free or heavily discounted, but usually require an eligible plan, activation, and installment commitment over multiple years.
  • Storage promotions: sometimes offer a higher-capacity model for little more than the lower tier.
  • Temporary discounts: direct discounts can apply without a trade-in, but only during a stated promotional window.

For example, Samsung’s U.S. offers page listed up to $250 off select Galaxy S26+ purchases from July 27 through August 16, 2026. That offer should not be substituted for the $1,099.99 launch MSRP, and eligibility may depend on the specific configuration and sales channel. Check the current Samsung Galaxy S26 offers page before ordering.

Prices, storage combinations, taxes, cellular bands, and carrier compatibility can differ outside the United States. Do not convert the U.S. table directly into an international price guide.

The 2,600-nit figures for the S26 and S26+ come from Samsung’s U.S. specifications. Samsung’s global materials reference up to 3,000 nits for the Ultra. These are peak laboratory or manufacturer-specified figures, not a promise of sustained brightness across the entire screen during prolonged outdoor use.

Processors and regional differences

U.S. versions of all three phones use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Samsung’s Ultra uses Snapdragon globally, while the Galaxy S26 and S26+ use Samsung’s Exynos 2600 in markets including India. Qualcomm documents the Snapdragon configuration in its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy announcement, and Samsung’s India product page illustrates the regional split.

That means benchmark results, modem behavior, thermal performance, and battery life should be compared by exact region and model number. A review of a U.S. Snapdragon S26 is not automatically representative of an Exynos S26 sold elsewhere.

Samsung also advertises performance improvements for the Ultra compared with the Galaxy S25 Ultra—39% faster NPU, 24% better GPU performance, and 19% faster CPU performance. Those are Samsung’s own comparative claims, not universal independently verified gains for every workload.

Video 8K at 30fps; 4K at 60fps 8K at 30fps; 4K at 120fps in Pro Video

The Ultra’s camera advantage is not merely the 200MP number. Its main camera has a wider f/1.4 aperture, its ultrawide camera has much higher resolution, and it adds a 50MP 5x telephoto alongside the 3x telephoto. Wider apertures can help gather more light, while final image quality also depends on sensor size, stabilization, focus performance, image processing, and the scene.

Samsung labels some intermediate zoom settings as “optical quality”. The true optical focal lengths are 3x and 5x; 2x and 10x optical-quality modes use sensor cropping and processing rather than a separate lens providing those exact magnifications. At extreme zoom levels, AI processing can create detail but can also produce visible image degradation. The 100x label should therefore not be treated as equivalent to a clean 100x optical photograph.

Nightography Video, noise reduction, Super Steady stabilization, and Galaxy AI processing are important parts of the camera experience. The base S26 and S26+ have broadly similar headline camera hardware to their predecessors according to review coverage, so their improvements are more about processing, aperture or software behavior, and video features than a wholesale camera redesign.

Galaxy S26 Ultra 5,000mAh Up to 60W; up to 75% in about 30 minutes Up to 25W Up to 31 hours

Samsung’s video-playback figures are controlled claims, not normal mixed-use battery-life guarantees. In Tom’s Guide’s own battery test, the Galaxy S26 lasted approximately 11 hours 28 minutes, the S26+ lasted 13 hours 13 minutes, and the S26 Ultra lasted 16 hours 10 minutes. Those results are useful for comparison within that test, but real endurance varies with brightness, cellular signal, gaming, cameras, display settings, processor variant, and software.

The wall charger is not included. Samsung’s retail box includes the phone, a data cable, and an ejection pin. To reach the rated wired speeds, you need an appropriate compatible adapter and cable; Samsung’s percentage estimates also depend on battery level and charging conditions.

Operating system and software support

The S26 series ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5. Samsung promises seven generations of Android/One UI OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the initial global launch date. That makes any S26 model a reasonable long-term purchase, although individual AI features and update timing can vary by country, carrier, language, device model, and account.

What is new in the Galaxy S26 generation?

1. Privacy Display on the Ultra

The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a hardware-integrated Privacy Display. Samsung describes it as the world’s first built-in Privacy Display on a phone; that wording is Samsung’s manufacturer claim. Unlike a removable privacy screen protector, it changes off-axis visibility through the display hardware itself.

You can configure it for:

  • The entire screen.
  • Specific apps.
  • Incoming notification pop-ups.
  • PIN, password, and pattern entry.
  • Maximum Privacy Protection, which narrows the viewing angle further and dims the display.

Use the Privacy Display control in Quick Settings. Samsung also documents a double-press Side-button shortcut that can be enabled through the phone’s Advanced features settings. The exact controls can vary with software version and region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is a genuinely useful feature for commuters, travelers, business users, and anyone who reads work or financial information in public. It is not a free upgrade in every situation. Samsung warns that image quality can change outside the intended viewing angle, and its support documentation says the strongest privacy setting reduces brightness. Ars Technica reported a smaller brightness and contrast reduction in the default mode, while other reviewers observed narrower natural viewing angles or compromises in brightness, color, or clarity in stronger modes. The severity is reviewer- and setting-dependent.

If you rarely need privacy, compare the Ultra’s display directly with the S26+ before buying. The S26+ provides a large QHD+ panel without the Ultra’s privacy-display trade-offs, while the Ultra is the more compelling choice if public-screen privacy is a daily concern.

2. One UI 8.5’s more contextual Galaxy AI

Samsung’s S26 software focuses less on isolated editing tools and more on actions based on what is on screen. The features still have account, network, language, supported-app, and accuracy limitations.

Now Nudge

Now Nudge examines visible screen context and offers suggested actions. Samsung’s examples include suggesting Autofill, surfacing a Calendar action, or finding and sharing photos when a conversation asks for them. It may reduce app switching, but it is not guaranteed to recognize every screen or request correctly. It requires a Samsung Account, and availability varies by region, language, and supported application.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Now Brief

Now Brief creates personalized summaries and reminders using information such as travel bookings, events, birthdays, routines, exercise suggestions, and playlists. It is better understood as a configurable briefing than as an autonomous assistant that always understands your priorities.

More capable Bixby

The updated Bixby can interpret more natural-language requests, guide you through device settings, change selected settings, and search the web from voice requests. Bixby requires a Samsung Account and data connection. Samsung notes limitations involving language, accent, apps, devices, situations, and third-party app support.

Photo Assist and Creative Studio

Photo Assist accepts natural-language editing prompts. Creative Studio can generate stickers, invitations, profile cards, wallpapers, and sticker sets. Samsung listed 41 supported languages for Photo Assist and Creative Studio as of March 2026, while Now Nudge and recalled Now Brief data support fewer languages. Creative Studio requires a network connection and Samsung Account, and generated content is not guaranteed to be accurate or reliable.

3. AI processing is not entirely on-device

Samsung’s privacy architecture includes the Personal Data Engine, KEEP, Knox Vault, and Knox Matrix. However, “on-device AI” should not be used as a blanket description for every Galaxy AI feature. Samsung says processing can occur on the device or in the cloud depending on the feature and the user’s settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung says basic Galaxy AI features are free. Future enhanced Samsung services and third-party AI features may have different terms or fees, so buyers should not assume that every AI capability will remain free indefinitely.

4. Camera aperture and video improvements

The Ultra’s f/1.4 main-camera aperture and f/2.9 5x telephoto aperture are more meaningful changes than the headline megapixel count alone. Samsung also emphasizes Nightography Video, noise reduction, stabilization, and processing improvements. The S26 and S26+ remain the simpler camera choices, with the same 50MP/12MP/10MP rear-camera layout between them.

5. Faster charging

The S26 is limited to 25W wired charging, the S26+ rises to 45W, and the Ultra reaches 60W wired and 25W wireless charging. The change is most noticeable when recovering a large amount of battery quickly. Battery capacity itself has not dramatically changed at the top: the Ultra remains at 5,000mAh, so its gains depend more on charging speed, efficiency, and endurance than on a larger cell.

6. A lighter, thinner Ultra design

The S26 Ultra measures 7.9mm thick and weighs 214g. It is thinner and lighter than the S25 Ultra, although reviewers generally describe the design as a refinement rather than a complete redesign. Samsung also moves from the S25 Ultra’s titanium frame to Armor Aluminum on the S26 Ultra. That is a material change, not simply a cosmetic label.

Galaxy S26 Ultra S Pen: an important downgrade for some users

The S26 Ultra has a built-in S Pen for writing, Air Command, Air View, screen interaction, and other on-device stylus features. Samsung’s support documentation says it does not use Bluetooth and does not need pairing or charging.

That also means it does not provide the Bluetooth-dependent remote shutter, media controls, or Air Actions associated with older Ultra S Pens. If you are upgrading from a Galaxy S23 Ultra or S24 Ultra and used the pen as a remote, this is a material loss. The S26 Ultra’s pen is a capable writing and screen-interaction stylus, but not a fully featured Bluetooth accessory.

Design, durability, colors, and accessories

All three phones use Samsung’s unified S26 design language. U.S. color options include:

  • Cobalt Violet
  • White
  • Black
  • Sky Blue
  • Pink Gold, exclusive to Samsung.com
  • Silver Shadow, exclusive to Samsung.com

The Galaxy S26 and S26+ use an Armor Aluminum frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back. Samsung lists IP68 water and dust resistance for the series. IP68 is not the same as “waterproof”: Samsung’s laboratory qualification covers submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes, and resistance can diminish through normal wear. Avoid salt water, chlorinated pools, high-pressure water, and charging while the port is wet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The official U.S. specifications list 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi Direct, UWB, USB-C, Wireless PowerShare, and IP68 resistance. Bluetooth is listed as 5.4 on the base S26 and 6.0 on the S26+ and Ultra. Wi-Fi 7 requires a compatible router and suitable network conditions. Cellular bands, SIM arrangements, mmWave support, and network compatibility vary by market and carrier.

Samsung sells magnetic cases for the S26 and S26+. These cases can provide magnetic alignment for compatible chargers and accessories, but that is different from having magnets built directly into the phone. Review coverage identifies the lack of built-in magnets for direct Qi2.2 accessory support as a drawback. Check the exact case and accessory requirements before assuming a magnetic case provides every Qi2 feature.

Which Galaxy S26 should you buy?

Buy the Galaxy S26 if you want the smallest flagship

The Galaxy S26 is the sensible choice for one-handed use, a lower price, and flagship performance in a 167g phone. Its 6.3-inch display is smaller than the Plus and Ultra, and the 256GB starting storage is more generous than the previous entry-level configuration.

Buy the Galaxy S26+ for the large-screen middle ground

The S26+ is the model to choose if the priority is a 6.7-inch QHD+ display, 4,900mAh battery, and 45W charging without paying Ultra money. It is a strong fit for video, reading, navigation, and gaming, while remaining lighter and thinner than the Ultra.

The compromise is that it has essentially the base model’s rear-camera layout. It does not add the Ultra’s 200MP camera, Privacy Display, S Pen, 5x telephoto, 60W wired charging, or 25W wireless charging. At the same 256GB capacity, it costs $200 more than the S26, so buy it for the screen and battery—not because it is a cheaper Ultra.

Buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra for cameras, privacy, productivity, and maximum headroom

The Ultra earns its premium through its 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 3x and 5x telephotos, QHD+ 6.9-inch display, built-in Privacy Display, S Pen, 1TB/16GB option, stronger cooling system, and faster charging.

It is the right choice for photographers who regularly use telephoto lenses, people who take handwritten notes, professionals who need privacy in public, and power users who want the highest performance ceiling. It is not the best value for everyone: it is large, costs at least $400 more than the base S26, and its privacy screen can affect viewing characteristics. AI zoom can also look degraded at extreme magnifications.

Should you buy the S26 or an alternative?

Galaxy S25 series

A discounted Galaxy S25 or S25+ can be the better value if you want Samsung’s software and a high-end experience without paying launch-era pricing. The S26 generation’s clearest reasons to upgrade are the Ultra’s Privacy Display, faster charging, camera-aperture changes, new One UI 8.5 features, longer remaining support window, regional Snapdragon/Exynos changes, and the lighter Ultra design. The base and Plus models are less dramatic upgrades if your current S25 already meets your needs.

Galaxy S25 Ultra

Consider a heavily discounted S25 Ultra if you prefer its display characteristics or specifically want the older Bluetooth-enabled S Pen features. The S26 Ultra is newer and adds Privacy Display, faster charging, a lighter design, and camera changes, but the S25 Ultra may offer better value when discounted.

Google Pixel Pro phones

A current Pixel Pro model may suit buyers who prioritize Google’s camera processing, a cleaner Android interface, or Google-first AI services. The Galaxy generally offers a broader hardware feature set, including the S Pen and more Samsung ecosystem integrations. Compare actual camera consistency, zoom quality, battery, update policy, price, and preferred services rather than assuming one is universally better.

iPhone Pro Max models

An iPhone Pro Max is the more practical choice for someone invested in iMessage, FaceTime, AirPods, Apple Watch, and Apple’s continuity features. Switching platforms can matter more than a camera or benchmark difference.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Galaxy Z Fold7 or a later foldable

A Fold is worth considering when multitasking and a tablet-like internal screen matter more than conventional-phone ergonomics, pocketability, camera simplicity, or price. The S26 Ultra remains the straightforward choice for a traditional phone with an integrated stylus.

Things to check before ordering

  1. Confirm the exact model and region. S26 and S26+ processor, modem, storage, color, SIM, and 5G configurations vary by country.
  2. Separate MSRP from the offer price. Check whether the displayed discount requires a trade-in, activation, a particular carrier plan, or monthly bill credits.
  3. Budget for a charger. None of the phones includes a wall adapter.
  4. Choose storage carefully. The U.S. lineup offers 256GB and 512GB on the S26/S26+, and 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB on the Ultra. Photos, 8K video, games, and AI-generated content can make 256GB feel restrictive over a long ownership period.
  5. Check microSD information for your exact market. Samsung’s U.S. listings specify fixed internal storage tiers but do not list microSD expansion. Do not assume regional support; verify the exact model’s specification page before purchase.
  6. Test the Ultra’s Privacy Display in person if possible. It is valuable for public privacy, but display compromises are more noticeable to some users than others.
  7. Do not buy the Ultra for an S Pen remote. The S26 Ultra pen supports writing and on-device interaction but not Bluetooth remote functions.

Frequently asked questions

The answers below summarize the practical buying points and distinguish Samsung’s claims from independent testing where appropriate.

What is the difference between the Galaxy S26 and S26+?

The S26+ has a larger 6.7-inch QHD+ display, 4,900mAh battery, and 45W wired charging. The base S26 has a 6.3-inch FHD+ display, 4,300mAh battery, and 25W charging. Their headline rear-camera layout is the same, and neither has the Ultra’s Privacy Display or built-in S Pen.

Is the Galaxy S26 Ultra worth the extra money?

It is worth considering if you will use its 200MP camera, dual telephotos, built-in S Pen, Privacy Display, 1TB/16GB option, QHD+ 6.9-inch screen, or faster charging. If you mainly want Samsung software and a good everyday camera, the S26 or S26+ can provide better value.

Does the Galaxy S26 have an S Pen?

Only the Galaxy S26 Ultra has a built-in S Pen. The Galaxy S26 and S26+ do not include an integrated stylus.

Does the Galaxy S26 Ultra S Pen have Bluetooth?

No. Samsung says the S26 Ultra S Pen does not use Bluetooth and does not need pairing or charging. It supports writing, Air Command, Air View, and screen interaction, but it does not provide the Bluetooth remote shutter, media controls, or Air Actions found on older Ultra S Pens.

Does the Galaxy S26 come with a charger?

No. The phone box includes the smartphone, data cable, and ejection pin, but not a wall power adapter. The S26 supports up to 25W, the S26+ up to 45W, and the Ultra up to 60W wired charging.

Which Galaxy S26 models use Exynos?

U.S. versions of the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. In markets including India, the S26 and S26+ use Samsung’s Exynos 2600. The Ultra uses Snapdragon globally. Check the exact regional model number before comparing performance or battery tests.

How long will Samsung support the Galaxy S26?

Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the initial global launch date. Individual feature availability and update timing can vary by country, carrier, language, and model.

Is Privacy Display always on, and can it hide individual apps?

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display is integrated into the hardware, but its privacy behavior is configurable. You can control it from Quick Settings and configure privacy for the entire screen, individual apps, notification pop-ups, or PIN, password, and pattern entry. Maximum Privacy Protection narrows the viewing angle further and dims the screen.

Does the Galaxy S26 support Wi-Fi 7?

The official U.S. specifications list Wi-Fi 7 for the S26 series. You need a compatible Wi-Fi 7 router and suitable network conditions to benefit from it. Connectivity and cellular bands can vary by market and carrier.

Are the Galaxy S26 cameras better than the Galaxy S25 cameras?

The Ultra has meaningful camera changes, including wider apertures, a 50MP ultrawide camera, updated processing, and video improvements. The base S26 and S26+ retain a broadly similar headline rear-camera layout, so their gains are more dependent on processing, software, and video behavior than on a complete hardware replacement. A higher megapixel number alone does not guarantee better photos.

Is the Galaxy S26 waterproof?

Do not treat it as waterproof. Samsung lists IP68 water and dust resistance, qualified in laboratory conditions for up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Resistance can diminish through normal wear, and liquid damage is not a reason to expose the phone deliberately to water.

Does the Galaxy S26 have a microSD card slot?

Samsung’s U.S. listings specify fixed internal capacities but do not list microSD expansion. Because specifications can vary by region, verify the exact model’s official product page before buying if removable storage is important to you. Do not assume that the S26 family supports microSD.

What is the best Galaxy S26 storage size for photos and 8K video?

256GB is adequate for lighter users, but 512GB is the safer choice for people who shoot frequently, keep large games installed, or plan to retain the phone for years. The 1TB Ultra is aimed at heavy camera users and is the only S26 configuration with 16GB RAM. Since microSD support is not listed on the U.S. pages, choose internal storage carefully.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Galaxy S26 is a finished, currently available three-phone family—not an upcoming rumor. Buy the S26 for the smallest body and lowest U.S. MSRP, the S26+ for a large QHD+ screen and stronger battery value, and the S26 Ultra for the most versatile cameras, built-in S Pen, Privacy Display, and fastest charging. Before ordering, check the dated promotion terms, regional processor, carrier compatibility, charger cost, and storage needs. The Ultra’s Privacy Display and S Pen are distinctive, but neither is an uncomplicated upgrade: privacy modes can affect viewing quality, and the new pen no longer supports Bluetooth remote functions.
