Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: At First Glance

Samsung has a good reputation for producing top-notch high-end smartphones. However, their budget line of smartphones is not always spectacular.

But this Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown looks promising. A look at its specs is all you need to develop a keen interest.

Moreover, Samsung equipped Galaxy J7 Crown with a decent hardware configuration, that includes a beautiful 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display. Rounding up its intriguing features is a 13 Mp rear camera.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: Design, Dimension, and Weight

As I mentioned in the last section, Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown has a nice-looking design. It has a stealth look that makes its chunky top bezel invisible when the screen is off.

However, turning its screen on clearly reveals the large top bezel. But, the moment you turn the smartphone’s screen on, its 5.5-inch display immerses you in its beauty.

Above its display is a neatly designed Samsung logo that makes room for some sensors like the proximity sensor. You also get a front camera positioned a bit to the left of the Samsung logo.

Moreover, a recent apps button, a physical home button, and a back button are neatly arranged side by side below the screen.

Flipping the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown to its back, you will be fascinated by a matte finished covering that feels nice and soft to the touch. The back of the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown houses a rear camera as well.

Furthermore, the left side of the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown features two separated volume controls and a tray that houses both the microSD card and a nano sim card.

On the right side, you get a top-mounted side-firing speaker and a small sleep/power button.

This low-cost phone has more to offer! The bottom of the smartphone houses a microphone port, a USB charging port, and a headphone jack.

Moving on to this smartphone’s dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown weighs 171 g and measures 152.4 x 78.6 x 7.5 mm. Evidently, this smartphone is neither very light nor too heavy.

Overall, Samsung has done a good job to make this smartphone look and feel luxurious, despite being a budget smartphone. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown scores an eight in this review for its good design.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: Display Features

As previously stated, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display. This display offers an HD resolution of 1280 x 720.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown’s 5.5-inch display is big enough to satisfy anyone’s desire for a big screen. Interestingly, it also adequately tends to people who love big screens or people who love a portable display size that fits easily into the pocket or the palm.

Furthermore, this display offers a pleasurable viewing experience. Playing games and watching movies on this smartphone’s beautiful screen is a joy.

Also, this smartphone supports the one-handed mode feature that minimizes your screen to aid one-hand navigation. It also supports the multi-window feature that allows you to open two apps simultaneously on one screen.

Another exciting feature this display offers is its excellent viewing angles. Viewing from any angle doesn’t decrease the display’s sharpness.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown scores an eight in this review for its fantastic display.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: Camera Features

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown features both rear and front cameras. The rear camera is rated 13 Megapixels with 1.9 focus while the front camera is rated 5 Megapixels with 2.2 focus.

Surprisingly, the two cameras on this smartphone are good. This is impressive considering that Samsung usually tends to cut costs in this area when it comes to its budget line smartphones.

In fact, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown is one of the smartphones that offer a camera as good as this. Although it doesn’t capture the best images, it offers decent captures.

However, there are few problems associated with this smartphone’s camera. These problems are overexposure and underexposure problems.

But then, this camera comes with HDR mode to help with overexposure by balancing the dark and bright areas on the pictures. You can also reduce the camera brightness to deal with underexposure issues.

Moving on to the front camera, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown delivers awesome selfies. In fact, this front camera is a bit deceptive in a bid to offer perfection – meaning that it adds to the beauty of pictures.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown has amazing cameras. Therefore, it scores an eight in this review.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: Battery Life and Talk Time

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown comes with a 300 mAh non-replaceable battery. We consider a smartphone with a non-replaceable battery a disadvantage since users cannot replace the battery themselves if the battery gets bad.

For a smartphone with its display quality, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown offers a good average battery talk time. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown can last up to 18 hours.

Its battery capacity coupled with its efficient low power consuming processor helps this smartphone offer a good battery life. Practically speaking, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown should last close to a day with moderate usage after a full charge.

The disappointing part of the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown’s battery is that it doesn’t support fast charging. It also doesn’t support wireless charging.

However, this is not too bad considering that the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown is a budget smartphone. Therefore, it scores a seven in this review for its good battery life.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: Storage Options and Performance

Unlike the other features I’ve reviewed so far, the storage offered by Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown is disappointing. Samsung equipped Galaxy J7 Crown with just 16 GB of internal storage.

It gets even more displeasing when you discover that the smartphone’s Operating System (OS) uses some of the 1 GB storage. The available space left after subtracting the space consumed by the device’s OS is about 9 GB.

Installing about three large apps or games can easily consume a large part of the remaining 9GB of storage. Ultimately, you will have to make use of an SD Card for storage expansion.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown supports a maximum capacity of 400 GB SD Card. Unfortunately, you will have to spend extra to acquire an SD Card as it is not sold with the phone.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown scores a six in this review for its small storage capacity.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown: Security Features and Sensors

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown is equipped with face recognition. This face recognition makes up for its lack of a fingerprint sensor.

Furthermore, this smartphone also comes with a proximity sensor, Hall sensor, light sensor, accelerometer, and gyroscope. Evidently, this smartphone offers the major sensors usually seen in modern smartphones.

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown scores an eight in this review for its sufficient number of sensors and its face recognition security feature.

  1. I have had my J7 Crown for two years and the battery is going. One site says you cannot remove this battery, yet this site says you can? I cannot seem to get mine open, so what can I do to replace my battery?

    • Hi Adrienne,

Thank you for your question/feedback. We can confirm that Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown comes with a non-replaceable battery. When we wrote this review, we made the mistake of writing that the battery is replaceable even though our own product specs page for this product says otherwise – https://www.itechguides.com/product-specs/samsung-galaxy-j7-crown-specs/

Based on this we have updated the battery section of this review to reflect that the battery in Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown is non-replaceable by users.

We are sorry for the confusion this has caused.

To answer your question about how you can replace the battery on Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown, it is not recommended to try to replace the battery yourself.

If you need to replace the battery in Samsung Galaxy J7 Crown, take it to a Samsung service center near you. Alternatively, you can take the phone to an experienced Samsung replair shop.
