Short answer: The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G remains a well-equipped 2021 mid-range phone, especially for buyers who value a 120Hz Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 778G processor, an OIS-equipped main camera, IP67 protection, expandable storage, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Its important limitations today are its age, hybrid SIM/microSD tray, lack of mmWave 5G and Samsung DeX, and the fact that its documented current software is Android 14 rather than a newer Android release.
Before buying one, verify the exact model and regional configuration. The A52s 5G is model family SM-A528; the commonly documented international dual-SIM version is SM-A528B/DS. It is not the same phone as the standard Galaxy A52 5G.

What is the Galaxy A52s 5G?
The Galaxy A52s 5G is a 2021 Samsung Galaxy A-series smartphone and a distinct model from the Galaxy A52 5G. Samsung announced it in South Korea on September 2, 2021, with retail availability starting September 3. Other markets received it on different schedules and with different colors, storage options, and model suffixes. Samsung’s Korean announcement and Mexican announcement document the launch and regional differences.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.5inches Infinity-O Full Hd+ Display
- Processor Cpu Type- Octa-Core
- Quad Camera With 32Mp Front Camera
- 128Gb Of Built-In Storage | External Memory Support Microsd (Up To 1Tb) (Not Included)
Launch colors included Awesome Black, Awesome White, and Awesome Violet in Korea. Awesome Mint was also sold in some other markets. Color availability is therefore not a reliable way to identify a particular regional model.
Performance: the Snapdragon 778G is the key difference
The A52s 5G uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G, an octa-core chip with a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz. This is one of the phone’s most significant specifications because the standard Galaxy A52 5G uses a different Snapdragon 750G platform. A listing that simply says “Galaxy A52 5G” may refer to the older, slower configuration rather than the A52s.
In practical terms, the Snapdragon 778G gives the A52s 5G a stronger performance foundation for everyday multitasking, high-refresh-rate scrolling, photography processing, and many games than the standard A52 5G. The exact experience still depends on RAM, software, thermal conditions, and the age of the battery, but the processor is a genuine model distinction rather than a minor naming variation. Samsung’s A52s 5G announcement identifies the Snapdragon 778G, while Samsung’s A52 5G datasheet should not be used as the A52s specification source.

Display: 120Hz Super AMOLED
The phone has a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a resolution of 1080 × 2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The punch-hole front camera sits within the display.
Samsung measures the full rectangular display at 6.5 inches and the rounded-corner area at approximately 6.3 inches. The 120Hz mode makes supported system animations and scrolling look smoother than a conventional 60Hz panel, although it can use more power. Brightness, apps, network conditions, and the selected refresh-rate setting all affect battery life.
The resolution, panel type, and refresh rate come from Samsung’s official Galaxy A52s 5G product specifications.
Cameras and video recording
Rear camera system
- 64MP main camera: includes optical image stabilisation, or OIS.
- 12MP ultrawide camera: useful for wider scenes than the main camera can capture.
- 5MP depth camera: supports depth-related photography effects.
- 5MP macro camera: intended for close-up photography.
The 64MP main camera’s OIS can help reduce the effect of hand movement during still photography and video capture. It does not guarantee sharp results when the subject itself is moving, and it cannot turn an older phone into a modern flagship camera system.

- Equipped with a 6.5″ Super AMOLED display that supports 120 Hz refresh rate, the Galaxy A52 5G delivers buttery-smooth animations and responsive interaction, making it great for gaming, scrolling, and watching content.
Rear-camera video recording reaches 4K at 30fps. Slow-motion recording reaches 240fps at HD resolution. The front-facing camera is 32MP, but it is fixed focus and does not have OIS, so buyers should not assume that all four cameras or both sides of the phone have the same stabilisation features.
Battery and charging
The Galaxy A52s 5G has a non-removable battery rated at 4,500mAh typical capacity and supports 25W fast charging. Samsung quotes up to 20 hours of video playback, but that is a stated use-case figure rather than a guarantee of everyday runtime.
Actual battery life varies with 5G reception, Wi-Fi or mobile-data use, screen brightness, 120Hz operation, camera and gaming use, background apps, and battery condition. A used A52s 5G may have substantially less endurance than a new unit because lithium-ion batteries lose capacity over time. Samsung’s launch material and product page provide the official battery and playback figures.
Storage, SIM support, and physical connections
Regional versions include 6GB RAM with 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB storage. The statement that “the A52s 5G has 8GB RAM” is incomplete: memory depends on the exact market and SKU. Check the model number, retail listing, and device information rather than relying on a generic product title.

However, the documented international dual-SIM SM-A528B/DS configuration uses a hybrid tray:
SIM 1 + SIM 2 or microSD
That means it cannot use two physical SIM cards and a microSD card simultaneously in that configuration. You must choose between a second physical SIM and expandable storage.
For wired connections, the phone has USB-C 2.0 and retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. NFC is included for compatible uses such as contactless functions where supported by the region, carrier, service, and installed applications. Samsung DeX is not supported, so the phone should not be purchased with the expectation that it can provide Samsung’s desktop-style DeX environment.

5G and wireless connectivity
The A52s 5G supports Sub-6GHz 5G, not mmWave 5G. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB-C 2.0.

The supported bands, carrier certification, SIM provisioning, and local network rollout all matter. An imported phone can lack a band or approval required by a particular network even if it displays “5G” in the product name. Samsung also notes that availability and actual network speed depend on country, carrier, and environment. Check the exact SM-A528 variant against the carrier before importing one.
IP67 water and dust resistance
The Galaxy A52s 5G carries an IP67 rating. Samsung describes this as protection against immersion in up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes under specified test conditions.
IP67 is not a promise that every water-related incident is harmless. Avoid seawater, chlorinated water, high-pressure water, and deliberate underwater use. The seal can also be compromised by a drop, a damaged back cover, or a repair. Water resistance is not permanent and should not be assumed for a second-hand phone with an unknown history.
Software: Android 14 is the documented current position
The phone launched with Android 11, but Android 11 is not its current documented software. Samsung’s official update log for model SM-A528B lists One UI 6.0 based on Android 14 and later One UI 6.1 updates. The latest entry in the supplied official log is build A528BXXSBGYI4, released October 1, 2025, with the September 1, 2025 security patch.
This status applies specifically to the SM-A528B update record. Samsung warns that release dates and update contents vary by country, model, and carrier. A different CSC, imported model, or carrier-branded phone may receive an update at a different time or show a different build. The official SM-A528B firmware log is the best place to compare the phone’s build and patch level with Samsung’s published record.
Samsung also provides an Android 14 user manual for the A52s 5G, dated December 8, 2023. That is further confirmation that Android 14, rather than the launch Android 11 software, is the relevant operating-system version for an updated device.

If an over-the-air update does not appear, connect the phone to a Windows PC or Mac running Samsung Smart Switch. When compatible firmware is available, Smart Switch displays an Update option. Keep the phone connected and do not disconnect the USB cable while the update is installing.
What to do if no update appears
- Confirm the phone’s exact model under Settings > About phone; do not compare an SM-A528B log with another A52 or A52s regional model.
- Check the installed build and security patch under Settings > About phone > Software information.
- Allow for carrier and country differences. A phone that shows no update may already have the newest firmware available for its CSC or may be waiting for a carrier release.
- Try Samsung Smart Switch on a computer if the phone’s update screen does not offer the expected package.
Do not assume that screenshots or instructions from another country will use the same labels or show the same release. Samsung’s update schedule and package contents are region-, model-, and carrier-dependent.
Dimensions, design, and practical strengths
The phone measures 159.9 × 75.1 × 8.4mm and weighs 189g. Its combination of a 6.5-inch AMOLED display, moderate 189g weight, headphone jack, microSD support, IP67 rating, and 120Hz refresh rate makes it a particularly feature-rich design for its generation.
Its strongest practical advantages are not just the headline 5G support. The A52s 5G also combines a comparatively capable Snapdragon 778G platform with optical stabilisation, a high-refresh-rate display, expandable storage, wired headphone support, and water and dust resistance. Those features are useful to buyers who do not want a phone that relies entirely on wireless audio or fixed internal storage.
Should you buy a Galaxy A52s 5G now?
The A52s 5G can still make sense as a used or refurbished phone if it is priced appropriately and the specific unit is in good condition. It is most attractive when the buyer wants:

- stronger performance than the standard Galaxy A52 5G;
- OIS on the main rear camera;
- a 3.5mm headphone jack;
- microSD expansion;
- IP67 protection; and
- a relatively compact, familiar Samsung design rather than a very large phone.
It is a less suitable choice if long-term access to newer Android versions is the main priority, if the buyer needs two physical SIMs and a microSD card at the same time, if mmWave 5G is required, or if Samsung DeX is important. The documented SM-A528B software record reaches Android 14, so buyers should assess it as an older phone with a mature software lifecycle rather than as a current-generation Galaxy A model.
Used-phone checklist
- Verify the model: look for SM-A528 or the exact regional SM-A528 suffix, not merely “A52 5G.”
- Verify RAM and storage: 6GB and 8GB variants exist, and listings can incorrectly generalise one configuration to all models.
- Check the tray: confirm whether the phone uses the hybrid SIM 2/microSD arrangement if you need both features.
- Check the software: use Settings > About phone > Software information and compare the build with the appropriate Samsung update record.
- Check network compatibility: compare the imported model’s supported Sub-6 5G capability and carrier certification with your network.
- Assess battery condition: the advertised 4,500mAh capacity is the original typical rating, not a guarantee of the capacity remaining in a used device.
- Inspect water-sensitive damage: do not rely on IP67 protection if the phone has a cracked back, serious drop damage, or unknown repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G the same as the Galaxy A52 5G?
No. They are separate models. The A52s 5G uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G, while the standard Galaxy A52 5G uses a Snapdragon 750G platform. Verify the model number and processor before buying.
Does the Galaxy A52s 5G support two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time?
Not on the documented international dual-SIM SM-A528B/DS configuration. Its hybrid tray accepts SIM 1 plus either SIM 2 or a microSD card, so a second physical SIM and a memory card cannot be used simultaneously.
What is the latest Android version for the Galaxy A52s 5G?
Samsung’s official SM-A528B update log supplied for this article lists Android 14, with One UI 6.0 and later One UI 6.1 updates. The latest listed entry is build A528BXXSBGYI4 with the September 1, 2025 security patch, released October 1, 2025. Other regions and carriers can differ.
How do I update a Galaxy A52s 5G?
Open Settings > Software update > Download and install. The wording can vary by carrier or region. You can also connect the phone to Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac and select Update if an update is offered.
Does the Galaxy A52s 5G support Samsung DeX?
No. Samsung’s product specifications list Samsung DeX as unsupported on the Galaxy A52s 5G.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWill every carrier’s 5G work on an imported Galaxy A52s 5G?
No. The phone supports Sub-6GHz 5G, but bands, carrier certification, country, SIM provisioning, and local network conditions determine whether a particular network works. Check the exact regional model against the carrier before importing one.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Galaxy A52s 5G is still a sensible older Samsung phone when its 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 778G performance, OIS main camera, IP67 rating, headphone jack, and microSD support matter more than having the newest Android version. The two checks that prevent most buying mistakes are verifying the exact SM-A528 variant and remembering that the international dual-SIM tray is hybrid: SIM 1 + SIM 2 or microSD.
