The key distinction: removing the account from one device is not the same as permanently deleting it. Removing it affects that device; deleting the account can remove account details and data tied to Samsung services.
What is a Samsung account used for?
A Samsung account gives you access to Samsung services, including Galaxy Store, Samsung Pay, Bixby, and SmartThings Find. Samsung says one account can be used on multiple Galaxy devices. See Samsung’s account FAQs for service and account details.
How does Samsung two-step verification work?
Two-step verification asks for your password and then an additional security check, such as a code or approval. Samsung describes it as a feature intended to prevent someone else from signing in to your account. Depending on your account and region, methods may include:
- Text messages sent to a registered phone number.
- A notification or code on another Galaxy device already signed in.
- An authenticator app.
- Backup codes saved for recovery.
Samsung account security settings may also let you manage trusted devices. A trusted device can sign in without repeating two-step verification; remove devices you no longer trust. Available settings and labels can vary by device, software version, carrier, and region. Samsung explains setup and management in its two-step verification guide.

How can I find Samsung Account ID or password if I forget it?
Use Samsung’s account sign-in and recovery flow to look up your account ID or reset your password. If you need to remove the account from a device and have forgotten the password, Samsung’s UK instructions say to reset it online first, then return to the device’s account settings. The recovery screens and available checks may differ by region.
What if I changed my phone number or cannot receive a verification code?
First try another Galaxy device that is already signed in, or use a backup code if you saved one. If neither is available, follow Samsung’s phone-number update process for your region. Samsung Canada says a phone-number change request for two-step verification may take up to two weeks for security reasons; that timing is specific to its Canadian guidance, updated August 22, 2026, and should not be assumed for other countries. Can I use SmartThings Find after enabling two-step verification?
Samsung lists SmartThings Find among the services accessible through a Samsung account and addresses this question in its account FAQ. Two-step verification adds a sign-in check; it does not, by itself, mean the service is unavailable. Access still depends on being able to authenticate to the account and on the service being available for your device and region. See Samsung’s SmartThings Find and account FAQ.
How do I remove a Samsung account from a Galaxy device?
- Open the device’s account settings and choose the Samsung account you want to remove. Exact menu names and locations vary by device and software version.
- Choose the option to remove the account from the device.
- Enter the Samsung account password when prompted to confirm.
Samsung’s UK guidance requires the account password for device removal. If you do not remember it, reset the password online before trying again. Removing the account from a device does not permanently delete the Samsung account or necessarily remove data already stored with Samsung services. How do I permanently delete a Samsung account?
Permanent deletion is done through Samsung account settings on the website, not by removing the account from a phone or tablet. Sign in, open the account settings, and follow the deletion option shown for your account. The exact screen and labels vary by country and website version. Samsung Canada notes that unresolved payment or subscription issues may prevent deletion; see its account setup and management guide.
What should I check before deleting the account?
Samsung says deletion removes account details, personal information, and remaining data associated with connected Samsung services. That can include downloaded items and purchase history. Before proceeding:

- Sign out of the account on your devices. Deletion does not automatically sign devices out.
- Check services, downloads, and purchase history tied to the account, and save anything you still need where possible.
- Resolve outstanding payment or subscription issues that may block deletion.
- Consider whether you may need the account later to sign in to a device, reset it, or erase information.
Samsung India specifically warns that, after deletion, the account can no longer be used to sign in to devices for resetting them or erasing information. Its deletion guide, updated June 19, 2026, advises signing out of devices first.
