Saints Row (2022) does not support full cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. It does support two-player cross-generation co-op within the same console family: PS4 with PS5, and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S. On PC, Steam and Epic players have an optional cross-play route, according to PLAION’s Steam FAQ, but that does not connect PC players to consoles. Cross-progression between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC has not been announced.
Does Saints Row have crossplay?
Not between the major console and PC platform families. A PlayStation player cannot join an Xbox player, and console players cannot join PC players. The exceptions are cross-generation play inside a console family and the optional Steam-to-Epic connection on PC.
That distinction matters because “cross-platform” can mean simply that a game is sold on several systems. Saints Row is multi-platform, but that does not mean a friend group can combine PlayStation, Xbox, and PC copies. In this article, cross-play means playing together across platform families; cross-gen means joining across generations of the same console family.

In July 2022, a Deep Silver representative told GamesRadar+: “There is cross-gen play. So Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S co-op is doable, and PS4 to PS5 is too – but not cross-console play.” The representative could not then confirm console-to-PC cross-play. Later PC information added the Steam–Epic option, not console support.

Can PS5 play with Xbox?
No. A PS5 copy cannot join an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One copy, and the same restriction applies to PS4. Saints Row’s supported cross-generation play stays within one console family: PlayStation with PlayStation, or Xbox with Xbox.
So if one friend has a PS5 and another has an Xbox Series X, owning the same game is not enough to play together. They need compatible platform families. The game also was not released for Nintendo Switch. Google Stadia was among the launch platforms, but launch-era coverage described Stadia co-op as limited to other Stadia players.
Can PC play with console?
No. PC players cannot join PlayStation or Xbox players, and console players cannot join PC lobbies. PC cross-play is a separate, narrower feature: PLAION’s archived Steam Release FAQ said that optional Steam–Epic cross-play would use Epic Online Services.

Steam’s current Saints Row listing includes a “Cross-Platform Multiplayer” feature, while the FAQ identifies the PC storefront connection as Steam and Epic. Read those together as a PC-launcher option, not a promise that every version can join every other version. The live FAQ URL returned a 404 when checked on October 29, 2026, so the Steam–Epic wording here comes from an archived copy and an indexed version of the FAQ.
If you and a friend both play on PC but bought the game through different launchers, the available evidence indicates that you can use the optional Steam–Epic route. The available data does not establish that this connection is required for players using the same storefront, nor does it provide a current step-by-step setup procedure. Epic Online Services is the requirement stated by PLAION for the optional cross-launcher play.

Does Saints Row 2022 have crossplay and cross-progression?
It has limited cross-play, as described above, but no announced cross-progression between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. There is no confirmed way to transfer a save from one platform brand to another or to carry a single shared save across those ecosystems.
Do not confuse a platform’s own save feature with cross-progression. Xbox cloud saves keep saves within the Xbox ecosystem, and Steam Cloud is for Steam saves. Xbox Smart Delivery lets one Xbox purchase serve the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions; the Xbox store does not list Xbox Play Anywhere, so Smart Delivery is not evidence of Xbox-to-Windows save transfer.

According to Rock Paper Shotgun’s co-op guide, progress can carry between single-player and co-op for both host and guest. A guest’s XP, items, collectibles, and achievements return to that guest’s own save. That is same-platform save behavior, not cross-platform progression.
How does Saints Row co-op work?
Saints Row co-op is for two players and supports drop-in/drop-out play. You can explore the open world without staying tethered to your partner, but the host’s story progress determines which missions are available. If someone starts a mission, the other player is teleported into it.
The menu options reported in Rock Paper Shotgun’s guide are Host Game (using an existing save), Join Friend, Host New Game, and Matchmaking. Sessions are open to all by default; change Session Privacy to Friends Only or Invite Only if you do not want an open session. Exact menu wording can vary by version or platform.

Story progress is not shared in the same way as a single common campaign save. The host’s world controls mission availability and the mission progress made in that session. A guest can earn money and XP that return to the guest’s own world, and playing a later mission in a friend’s session does not force the guest to replay that mission in their own save. This arrangement lets friends help each other without making the guest’s campaign identical to the host’s.
- Maximum party size: Two players. The Xbox store lists online co-op as “2–2.”
- Friendly fire: Off by default. The game offers full, partial, or no friendly fire; the setting affects the damage you take.
- Co-op pranking: Both players must have it enabled.
- Base customization: The host-only HQ customization lock is off by default, so guests can redecorate the base unless the host changes the setting.
- Competitive modes: The cited feature information describes co-op, not a dedicated PvP mode.
Deep Silver described the experience in its marketing as “fully untethered drop-in / drop out co-op.” The practical limitation is that free exploration does not remove the host’s control of story progression: a guest joins the host’s campaign context for missions.
What should I buy to play with a friend?
Buy the version for the platform family your friend already uses. For a console pair, match PlayStation with PlayStation or Xbox with Xbox; cross-generation compatibility means the pair does not need matching console generations. For PC friends, confirm the launcher arrangement, particularly if one person uses Steam and the other Epic.
On Xbox, the store lists Smart Delivery, Xbox Live Cross-Gen Multiplayer, online co-op, and Xbox cloud saves. That means the Xbox One and Series X|S versions are covered by the same Xbox purchase, according to the listing. Steam and Epic are separate PC storefronts, so do not assume that buying on one gives you a copy on the other. The Steam–Epic play option is about joining sessions, not sharing a purchase.
Xbox console online co-op requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately, according to the Xbox store capability note. No current official PlayStation Plus requirement was published, so check the relevant PlayStation store or console account terms before purchasing if subscription access is a deciding factor.

If you are choosing between editions, base-game platform compatibility is the key issue for co-op. The Gold Edition bundles the Expansion Pass, which includes three story expansions; storefronts have also listed the expansions and cosmetic packs separately. An edition upgrade does not change the cross-play boundaries. Check the edition contents on the store where you plan to buy, since bundles and availability can vary by platform and date.

There is no announced plan for a PlayStation–Xbox or console-to-PC cross-play update, and it would be unwise to buy the game assuming one will arrive. The clearest current answer is the platform support that exists now, not a speculative future patch.
Volition, the game’s developer, was closed by Embracer in August 2023. Volition’s LinkedIn statement, quoted by Rock Paper Shotgun, said: “As part of that program, they evaluated strategic and operational goals and made the difficult decision to close Volition effective immediately.” That closure is a reason not to treat an unannounced cross-play feature as likely, although it does not itself prove that no publisher or other developer could ever change the game.
PLAION’s 2025 Steam FAQ described post-launch support as four major updates, two map expansions, and three story expansions, alongside fixes and features. Its wording was: “We have deployed 4 major updates – including fan requested features such as cheats, selfie mode, combat overhaul among lots more, fixed thousands of bugs and issues, released several cosmetic packs, 2 map expansions and 3 story expansions check www.saintsrow.com/news for a full picture of everything we have been working on.” That record shows substantial post-launch content, but it does not announce console cross-play.

Taken together with the studio closure and the absence of a cross-play announcement, it is more accurate to make your purchase decision around today’s limits than to wait for cross-family play.

Which platforms is Saints Row available on?
The reboot launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Google Stadia. Epic Games Store was the PC launch storefront; Steam released later, on August 24, 2023. Stadia was a launch platform and should not be treated as another current PC launcher for cross-play purposes. The game was not released on Nintendo Switch.
This is the 2022 reboot. It should not be confused with Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, which separately received PC launcher cross-play between Steam, Epic, and GOG. That older game’s launcher support does not describe the reboot’s console cross-play rules.
What is the practical answer for a friend group?
Before buying, write down each player’s platform and match them against the supported combinations:

- Steam and Epic on PC: optional cross-play is described in PLAION’s FAQ and requires Epic Online Services.
- PlayStation and Xbox, console and PC, or unrelated console families: not compatible for co-op.
Then check the online subscription requirement for the platform you will use, choose the same platform family or supported PC launcher pairing as your friend, and set session privacy after launching co-op. Those checks prevent the two most common purchase mistakes: assuming “available on several platforms” means cross-play, and assuming cloud saves mean a save can move between platform brands.

Can two Saints Row players use different console generations without buying a second copy?
On Xbox, Smart Delivery is listed for the game, covering Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S from one Xbox purchase. PlayStation cross-generation play is supported too, but the sources cited here do not establish a single cross-generation PlayStation purchase entitlement; check the PlayStation listing for the edition you intend to buy.
Does Saints Row have a PlayStation Plus requirement for online co-op?
No current official PlayStation Plus requirement was published, so it would be inaccurate to state one here. The Xbox store explicitly says console online multiplayer requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate; check the PlayStation store’s current terms for your region.
Does Saints Row have cross-play on Stadia?
Launch-era coverage described Stadia co-op as restricted to other Stadia players, rather than cross-play with PlayStation, Xbox, or PC. Stadia was a launch platform, not an extra route that joins those other platform groups.

Is Saints Row IV: Re-Elected cross-play the same as the 2022 reboot?
No. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected received a separate PC launcher cross-play feature involving Steam, Epic, and GOG. Its support does not apply to the reboot, whose PC launcher option is described as Steam–Epic and whose console families remain separate.
