S.W.A.T.’s final season gets a new streaming home following its third cancellation on Netflix: Season 8 arrived in the United States on September 15, 2025. Netflix made the completed season available to subscribers, but did not revive the CBS procedural, order Season 9, or change its status as a finished eight-season series.
The streaming move followed CBS’s third cancellation announcement on March 6, 2025, and Season 8’s 22-episode conclusion on May 16, 2025. The franchise’s next confirmed production is the separate spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles, coming to Starz in the United States on September 25, 2026.
Key takeaways
- Netflix added S.W.A.T. Season 8 in the United States on September 15, 2025.
- Netflix did not revive S.W.A.T. or order Season 9; the completed eighth season remains the original series’ ending.
- Season 8 concluded on May 16, 2025, after 22 episodes.
- As of a U.S. availability check on August 11, 2026, Season 8 was listed on Netflix, Netflix Standard with Ads, Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home.
- The separate spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles is scheduled to premiere on Starz in the United States on September 25, 2026.
Why did S.W.A.T.’s final season get a new streaming home?
The answer to where S.W.A.T.’s final season gets a new streaming home following its third cancellation is Netflix: Netflix added Season 8 in the United States on September 15, 2025. The move made the completed season and the earlier episodes available through Netflix, but Netflix did not renew the CBS series or order a ninth season. Netflix’s official S.W.A.T. title page identifies the show as the action/crime drama starring Shemar Moore, Stephanie Sigman, and Alex Russell.
That distinction is the most important part of the news. “New streaming home” describes post-broadcast availability for a finished season, not a new production order. CBS’s cancellation remained in force, so Netflix completed its collection of the original series rather than rescuing the show for another season. The original series should not be confused with the 1975 television series or the 2003 theatrical film.

What is the S.W.A.T. cancellation timeline?
S.W.A.T. was canceled and revived more than once before CBS ended the series for a third time.
| Date | Event | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| May 2023 | CBS canceled the series after six seasons. | CBS reversed the decision less than 72 hours later and renewed a shortened seventh season billed as the final season. |
| April 2024 | CBS renewed S.W.A.T. for Season 8. | The show continued after Season 7 had previously been positioned as its ending. |
| March 6, 2025 | CBS announced the third cancellation during Season 8. | The cancellation ended the original series; no Season 9 renewal is established in the researched record. |
| May 16, 2025 | Season 8 concluded. | The final season finished with 22 episodes. |
| September 15, 2025 | Netflix added Season 8 in the United States. | Netflix became a subscription destination for the completed final season and the broader series collection. |
TVLine’s cancellation report described the March 6, 2025 decision as CBS ending S.W.A.T. for the third time. TVLine also reported that the cancellation came before the season’s 14th episode.
Why did CBS cancel S.W.A.T. for a third time?
TVLine reported that Season 8 averaged approximately 4.9 million total viewers in Live+7 delayed playback, about 20% below Season 7, and ranked last in total audience among CBS dramas that season. Those figures are TVLine’s reported context for the cancellation, not an independently audited network result presented here.

The cancellation history also reflects the show’s unusual renewal pattern. CBS first reversed the 2023 cancellation and then extended the series again with an eighth season in 2024. That history explains why reports of a “new home” can be misleading: prior reversals created a reason for viewers to wonder whether Netflix might similarly bring the show back, but the available record supports only streaming distribution for the completed Season 8.

Where can you watch S.W.A.T. Season 8 in the United States?
U.S. viewers can watch S.W.A.T. Season 8 on Netflix as part of the subscription service’s series collection. A JustWatch U.S. listing checked on August 11, 2026 showed Season 8 streaming on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads, with digital purchase options through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home.
JustWatch’s U.S. listing identified 22 episodes and said it had checked 364 services. Streaming and purchase rights can change by country, contract, and date, so those listings are a U.S. snapshot from August 11, 2026—not a guarantee of universal availability. If Season 8 does not appear in a viewer’s local catalog, the most likely explanation is regional licensing rather than a contradiction of the U.S. listing.
| Viewing route | What the U.S. listing showed | Best for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Season 8 streaming; Netflix’s title page presents the broader S.W.A.T. collection. | Viewers who want subscription access to the series. | Catalog availability depends on country and can change. |
| Netflix Standard with Ads | Season 8 listed as streaming on this Netflix tier. | Viewers who prefer the lower-priced ad-supported option where available. | Plan availability and pricing are market-specific and change over time. |
| Amazon Video | Season 8 listed as a digital purchase. | Viewers who prefer to buy Season 8 rather than subscribe. | Purchase availability and playback rights depend on the U.S. storefront and account region. |
| Apple TV Store | Season 8 listed as a digital purchase. | Viewers who use Apple’s digital video library. | Digital-store availability can vary by territory. |
| Fandango At Home | Season 8 listed as a digital purchase. | Viewers who prefer that digital storefront. | Availability is subject to storefront and regional rights. |
How much does Netflix cost for S.W.A.T.?
Netflix’s U.S. page displayed $8.99 per month for Standard with ads, $19.99 per month for Standard, and $26.99 per month for Premium when the page was crawled. Netflix’s official page should be treated as the current reference because subscription prices, plan names, and availability are volatile; the displayed prices are not permanent guarantees.

Is S.W.A.T. Season 8 really the final season?
Yes. Season 8 is the final season of the original CBS S.W.A.T. series in the researched record, and it ended with 22 episodes on May 16, 2025. Netflix’s addition of Season 8 changed where viewers could watch the completed season; it did not create a Season 9.
The phrase “third cancellation” refers to CBS’s cancellation decisions, including the 2023 cancellation that was reversed and the later continuation into Season 8. It does not mean that Netflix canceled the show after acquiring it, and it does not indicate that the original 20-Squad storyline is continuing as Season 9.
What is S.W.A.T. Exiles, and where will it stream?
S.W.A.T. Exiles is a separate spinoff and follow-up series, not Season 9 of the original S.W.A.T. Sony Pictures Television announced that Starz would be the U.S. home for the 10-episode series, which is scheduled to premiere on September 25, 2026, with new episodes released weekly on Fridays through Starz’s linear and streaming/on-demand platforms.

According to Sony Pictures Television’s June 29, 2026 announcement, the story sends Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental unit made up of inexperienced recruits. Shemar Moore is returning as Hondo. The announcement also said the series had sold to major regions worldwide, but it did not establish identical premiere dates or streaming homes for every territory.
