Short answer: the Ryzen 7 8845HS is the only confirmed, shipping processor in this comparison. AMD specifies 8 cores, 16 threads, boost clocks up to 5.1 GHz, 24 MB of cache, Radeon 780M integrated graphics and a 35–54 W default TDP. The Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 is an unconfirmed October 2026 leak reportedly featuring the same 8-core/16-thread layout, 24 MB of L3 cache and a 16-compute-unit Radeon 890M. That larger reported GPU could make the HX 455 faster for integrated-graphics gaming and GPU-accelerated creative work, but there are no independent benchmarks, confirmed clocks, battery tests or shipping laptops yet. You cannot make an honest CPU-performance or battery-life percentage claim until a real HX 455 notebook is tested.

What is the difference between Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 and Ryzen 7 8845HS?

The biggest difference is certainty. The Ryzen 7 8845HS is an established Ryzen 8040-series mobile chip documented in AMD’s product tables. Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 appears only in October 2026 reports describing a leak attributed to Golden Pig Upgrade; AMD has not announced it as a shipping product. VideoCardz summarized the situation directly: “AMD has not officially confirmed the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455.” That statement describes an unconfirmed product, not a retail specification.

On paper, both processors are reported or specified with eight CPU cores and 16 threads. The leaked HX 455 is associated with a newer Ryzen AI 400 generation, while the 8845HS is a known Ryzen 8040 part. Without independent tests, the generation label alone does not establish how much faster one is in rendering, compiling, office work or games.

Is the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 faster than the Ryzen 7 8845HS?

There is no reliable answer yet. The leaked HX 455 and confirmed 8845HS share the same reported core and thread count, but performance depends on architecture, clock limits, sustained package power, cooling and firmware. No independently tested HX 455 notebook was identified, so publishing a percentage uplift would be speculation.

What can be said about CPU performance?

The 8845HS can boost to 5.1 GHz and has a 3.8 GHz base clock under AMD’s published specification. The leak does not provide HX 455 CPU clocks. A newer design could improve instructions completed per clock, efficiency or AI-related workloads, but those possibilities cannot be translated into a result for Cinebench, Blender, code compilation or game-frame rates without controlled tests.

Laptop implementations also matter. Two machines using the same 8845HS can differ because one allows a higher sustained power limit, uses faster memory or has a better cooling system. The processor name is therefore only one part of a performance comparison; complete notebook reviews using the same benchmark version and power mode are the appropriate evidence.

Which workloads should wait for testing?

  • Single-core work: browser responsiveness, many office tasks and lightly threaded applications require confirmed boost behavior and measured latency.
  • Multi-core work: video encoding, software builds and 3D rendering depend on sustained temperature and power, not merely the 8-core label.
  • AI workloads: the “Ryzen AI” branding suggests a newer AI engine, but the HX 455’s NPU throughput has not been published in the available reports.
  • Gaming with a discrete GPU: CPU limits vary by game and resolution; a faster integrated GPU does not automatically make the HX 455 a better CPU for a laptop that primarily uses a dedicated graphics chip.

Which processor has better integrated graphics?

The HX 455 has the stronger apparent graphics configuration, if the leak is accurate: 16 reported Radeon 890M compute units versus the 12 Radeon 780M graphics cores specified for the 8845HS. That is a 33% higher unit count, but it is not a 33% frame-rate guarantee. Architecture, graphics clocks, memory bandwidth, cooling and the laptop’s configured power can all change the result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why compute-unit count is only a starting point

An integrated GPU shares system memory with the CPU. Faster dual-channel memory can raise graphics throughput, while single-channel or low-speed memory can leave substantial performance on the table. The notebook’s thermal policy also determines whether the GPU can hold its peak clock during a long game or export.

Notebookcheck’s Radeon 890M database shows materially different results between laptops. That variation is a practical warning: an iGPU name by itself cannot predict a particular machine’s frame rate or sustained performance. Treat the 16-CU figure as a reason to investigate the HX 455, not as a benchmark result.

What gaming should you expect from the confirmed 8845HS?

The 8845HS’s Radeon 780M is suitable for games that scale well to integrated graphics, especially when settings and resolution are chosen realistically. Actual results depend on the laptop’s memory configuration and power mode. Look for reviews that report the game, resolution, quality preset, memory arrangement and average or low-percentile frame rates; generic claims such as “handles modern games” omit the variables that determine playability.

Could the HX 455 run games without a dedicated GPU?

Possibly, and its reported 16-CU Radeon 890M gives it a plausible advantage over the 12-unit Radeon 780M. However, there is no independently measured HX 455 gaming result and no confirmed graphics clock. Until an OEM ships a machine and reviewers test it, you should not promise a specific frame rate, resolution or quality preset.

Which one has better battery life?

Neither processor can be declared the battery-life winner from the available information. Battery runtime is determined by the complete laptop: battery capacity, display size and refresh rate, memory, storage, firmware, wireless activity, cooling and the selected power mode can outweigh differences between processor families.

Why the 8845HS TDP does not equal runtime

AMD lists a 35–54 W default TDP range for the 8845HS. That range describes a configurable processor power envelope, not the number of watts a laptop consumes continuously and not a promised number of hours. A thin system may configure the chip near the lower end, while a larger performance notebook can sustain higher power and deliver more speed at the cost of shorter runtime.

Why HX 455 battery claims are premature

The leaked HX 455 has no published default TDP, confirmed clocks or notebook firmware. There is therefore no defensible way to infer battery hours from the “Ryzen AI 400” generation name. Wait for complete reviews that identify battery capacity and use a repeatable web, video or productivity test; compare those results only when the test method is the same.

What to check when comparing two laptops

  • Battery capacity in watt-hours, not just the manufacturer’s “all-day” wording.
  • Display resolution, brightness, refresh rate and OLED versus LCD panel type.
  • Memory channel arrangement and speed, which affects both idle power and integrated-graphics performance.
  • Measured runtime in a standardized review, including the Windows power mode used.
  • Whether the laptop ships with a discrete GPU that can remain active and consume power during light work.

How do sustained power and cooling change the comparison?

Mobile processors are configured by the laptop maker. Cooling capacity, fan curves and firmware determine how long a chip can maintain high clocks before reducing power. A well-cooled 8845HS system can outperform a poorly cooled system with a newer processor in a long workload, while a quiet, low-power configuration may sacrifice peak speed for battery and acoustics.

Questions to ask in a laptop review

  1. What sustained package-power limit does the review measure after the initial boost period?
  2. Does performance remain stable in a 10- to 30-minute loop, or does it drop as temperatures rise?
  3. Are results reported for the same performance, balanced or quiet mode you plan to use?
  4. Does the chassis share heat pipes between CPU and GPU, and does that change graphics performance during combined loads?

These details matter especially for integrated graphics because the CPU and GPU draw from the same thermal and power budget. A higher-unit-count GPU can lose its advantage if the chassis cannot cool it or if the firmware assigns most of the package power to the CPU.

What is known about the HX 455 leak, and what remains unknown?

Reports from VideoCardz and ComputerBase in October 2026 attribute the specification to a Golden Pig Upgrade leak. The reported items are eight cores, 16 threads, 24 MB of L3 cache and a Radeon 890M with 16 compute units.

HX 455 item Evidence status What a buyer should do
Core and thread count Reported leak, not AMD confirmation Do not use it as a benchmark substitute
24 MB L3 cache Reported leak Wait for an official product page or review sample
Radeon 890M, 16 compute units Reported leak Treat the graphics advantage as provisional
CPU and GPU clocks Not stated Look for official specifications
NPU performance Not stated Ignore unverified AI-throughput claims
TDP, battery behavior and prices Not established Compare shipping laptop reviews only

A product name appearing in a leak is not proof that AMD will launch that exact configuration or that an OEM will sell it in your country. Availability, pricing and final specifications should be checked against an AMD announcement and an OEM product page before treating the HX 455 as a purchase option.

Which processor should you buy today?

Choose a Ryzen 7 8845HS laptop if you need a product you can purchase and evaluate now. It has a published specification, established laptop availability and independent testing of real systems. Choose an HX 455-based machine only after AMD and a laptop manufacturer publish a shipping model and reviewers measure it under comparable conditions.

Choose the 8845HS when certainty matters

  • You need a laptop immediately rather than waiting for an unannounced product.
  • You want verified CPU clocks, a known 35–54 W default TDP range and documented Radeon 780M graphics.
  • You are comparing battery life using existing standardized reviews.
  • You need predictable software, driver and support information from a shipping platform.

Consider waiting for HX 455 evidence when graphics are the priority

  • You want the best chance of higher integrated-graphics performance without a discrete GPU.
  • You can wait until the processor is officially announced and appears in a retail laptop.
  • You are prepared to compare memory speed, cooling, power limits and measured game results rather than relying on the Radeon 890M name.

Do not choose on the basis of a rumored percentage

No independent HX 455 notebook test establishes a CPU uplift, battery advantage or gaming lead. Any article or listing that supplies precise percentages before such testing is available is extrapolating beyond the evidence.

How should you compare a future HX 455 laptop with an 8845HS laptop?

  1. Verify the product: confirm an AMD product page and an OEM model number; exclude listings that provide only a rumor or an unverified specification sheet.
  2. Record the configuration: note RAM capacity, memory channels and speed, SSD, display, battery watt-hours and whether a discrete GPU is installed.
  3. Check power settings: identify the tested performance mode and sustained CPU/GPU power limits.
  4. Use like-for-like benchmarks: compare reviews using the same application version, game settings and test procedure.
  5. Separate short and long tests: a burst score measures responsiveness; a looped workload reveals cooling and sustained performance.
  6. Compare runtime independently: use the same web or video test methodology and account for panel brightness and refresh rate.
  7. Price the complete laptop: evaluate warranty, memory expandability, ports and display quality rather than paying more solely for a processor generation label.

What does the comparison mean for creators and students?

For CPU-heavy creation such as encoding or compiling, the 8845HS is the safer known quantity because its clocks and power range are published and systems have been reviewed. The HX 455 could improve GPU-assisted editing or effects if the reported Radeon 890M is real and the laptop supplies sufficient memory bandwidth, but that remains a hypothesis until measured.

For students and general office users, display quality, keyboard, weight, battery capacity and fan behavior often affect daily experience more than a modest processor difference. A well-built 8845HS laptop with adequate dual-channel memory can be a better practical choice than an early HX 455 design with an inefficient screen or restrictive cooling.

Bottom line: which is better?

The Ryzen 7 8845HS is the better-supported choice today because it is official, available and testable. The Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 is an unconfirmed leak whose reported 16-CU Radeon 890M is the main reason to watch it, but its CPU speed, NPU capability, power behavior, battery life, price and real gaming performance are unknown. Buy based on measured laptop results, not the leaked model name.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 laptops be available?

No launch date or retail inventory is established in the available October 2026 reports. Treat any listing without an AMD announcement and an identifiable OEM model as unverified.

Does Radeon 890M require a dedicated graphics card?

No. Radeon 890M is described as integrated graphics, meaning it shares the laptop’s system memory with the CPU. Its practical speed will depend heavily on memory configuration and the chassis power budget.

Can I upgrade a laptop from Ryzen 7 8845HS to HX 455 later?

Normally no. Mobile processors are generally soldered to the motherboard, so changing platforms requires replacing the entire motherboard or laptop. Select the processor when buying rather than planning a later CPU swap.

What information should an official HX 455 announcement include?

Look for confirmed CPU and GPU clocks, NPU specifications, power limits, supported memory, launch regions and named laptop models. Those details are needed to compare it fairly with a tested 8845HS system.
