You can enable AMD’s ML-based FSR Upscaling 4.1 on a Radeon RX 6000 in a compatible game either through the game’s own FSR option or, for eligible games, through Adrenalin’s driver upgrade. AMD added documented RX 6000 support in Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1, released October 20, 2026, and identifies the corresponding SDK implementation as FSR Upscaling 4.1.2. The game still needs the right integration, API and menu option. RX 6000 support covers ML upscaling; it does not mean every newer Redstone feature, including ML frame generation, is available.
What do you need before enabling FSR 4.1?
Check the graphics card, driver, operating system, game integration and graphics API before changing settings. The RX 6000 change is recent, so older advice saying that FSR 4 requires an RX 9000 is stale when the subject is upscaling. AMD’s October 20, 2026 Adrenalin 26.10.1 release notes added FSR Upscaling 4.1 support for RX 6000, while AMD’s October 28 SDK 2.4 article identifies the implementation on RX 6000 discrete GPUs as FSR Upscaling 4.1.2.
AMD’s formal feature name is FSR Upscaling. A game may still display FSR 4, and those labels can refer to the same supported upscaling path. The name alone is not proof that a particular build has the required implementation; verify the game’s current options and update status.

- Supported GPU: AMD’s 26.10.1 notes list Radeon RX 6900, 6800, 6700, 6600, 6500 and 6400 series products. The documented change concerns discrete RX 6000 GPUs.
- Windows driver: Use AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 or a later release for the documented Windows driver-upgrade route. Download it from AMD’s official support page rather than a paid driver-fix utility.
- Operating system: AMD lists Windows 11 21H2 or later and Windows 10 64-bit 21H2 or later, with support depending on the individual product.
- Laptops and all-in-ones: If AMD’s general package causes problems, AMD recommends the computer maker’s validated driver. The general Adrenalin package excludes handheld gaming devices, so a handheld owner should follow the device maker’s support path.
An existing RX 6000 owner does not need to buy a new graphics card to activate this feature. The driver and game prerequisites matter more than moving to a newer GPU.

Check the game, not just the GPU
A native integration exposes AMD’s ML-based FSR Upscaling option in the game itself. For AMD’s Adrenalin upgrade route, the title must contain an FSR 3.1-or-higher integration. A menu entry that merely says “FSR,” “FSR 1,” “FSR 2” or even a broad “FSR 3” listing does not establish that the installed version meets the requirement.
AMD’s supported-games page is a useful shortlist, but it is changeable and does not guarantee identical controls, a particular game build, a specific graphics API or a particular menu label. Treat it as a starting point, then check the title’s current update notes and graphics menu.
How do you enable FSR 4.1 in a game with native support?
Use the native route when the game itself provides an ML FSR Upscaling 4.1 or FSR 4 option. The game controls the integration, so there is no reason to force the Adrenalin upgrade procedure onto a title that already exposes the newer upscaler.

- Install Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 or later. Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Launch the game and open its graphics, display or video settings.
- Find the upscaling or anti-aliasing section. Depending on the title, the control may say “FSR 4,” “FSR Upscaling” or another developer-selected label.
- Select the FSR option, then choose one of the quality modes offered by that game.
- Apply or save the settings and return to the game. Some titles may require a restart after changing the renderer or upscaler.
Do not assume that a title listed by AMD exposes every preset or that its FSR 4 label means the same SDK revision as another game. AMD documents the supported feature, while the developer controls the menu wording and integration details.
How does the Adrenalin upgrade work for FSR 3.1 games?
The driver-assisted path is intended for a qualifying FSR 3.1-or-higher integration. It lets AMD’s driver provide the newer upscaling behavior in an eligible DirectX 12 game, but the game still has to be configured to use its FSR 3.1 option.
- Close the game completely. Do this before changing the per-game or global graphics setting in Adrenalin.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Go to Gaming > Graphics.
- Enable AMD FSR Upscaling.
- Launch the qualifying game again.
- Open the game’s graphics or video options and enable AMD FSR 3.1.
- Select the desired quality preset, apply the setting and test the game.
Both switches matter. Enabling the Adrenalin feature without selecting FSR 3.1 in the game does not turn on the upscaler, and selecting an older FSR mode does not prove that the driver upgrade can apply. Conversely, a title with native FSR Upscaling 4.1 should normally be configured through its own option rather than treated as a driver-upgrade candidate.

AMD describes an AMD FSR Frame Generation toggle on its feature page. That control should not be confused with RX 6000’s upscaling support: the newer ML frame-generation and driver-assisted frame-pacing features are restricted to RX 9000. Analytical frame generation is a separate feature with different support boundaries.

Does the driver upgrade work with DirectX 12 and Vulkan?
The graphics API determines which route is possible. AMD says the driver override applies to qualifying DirectX 12 games. An existing Vulkan game using FSR 3.1 is not automatically upgraded by the driver.

AMD’s GPUOpen explanation is explicit: “Vulkan support is provided by the FSR SDK 2.4 DLLs, so it requires integrating this SDK into your game.” In practical terms, a Vulkan title needs developer-side SDK integration; toggling the Adrenalin override alone is not enough.
If a game offers both APIs, do not assume that changing from Vulkan to DirectX 12 will automatically make every FSR option appear. The title’s own implementation, version and settings still determine what is available.
Which quality preset should you choose?
AMD lists Native AA, Quality, Balanced and Performance, with Ultra Performance available as an optional mode. A particular game may expose only some of these choices or use slightly different descriptions.
- Native AA: This is an anti-aliasing choice at the game’s native rendering resolution rather than a lower-resolution performance preset. It is appropriate when smoothing and native detail matter more than reducing rendering cost.
- Quality: Start here when you want the upscaler’s image-quality benefits while keeping a relatively high internal resolution.
- Balanced: Use this when Quality does not provide enough performance and you accept a larger resolution reduction.
- Performance: This favors frame rate more strongly and can be useful at demanding output resolutions, with a greater image-quality trade-off.
- Ultra Performance: This is the most performance-oriented option in AMD’s listed range and may be absent from a game’s menu.
Compare presets at the same output resolution and in the same scene. Switching from Quality to Performance changes the internal resolution, so a before-and-after test that changes both the upscaler and preset cannot isolate the effect of FSR 4.1 alone.

What performance evidence is available for RX 6000?
There is no generalizable RX 6000 frame-rate uplift number for this activation procedure. AMD’s example uses a Radeon RX 6800 XT at 4K Ultra in Crimson Desert and compares FSR 3.1 Quality plus frame generation with FSR 4.1 Performance plus frame generation. Those are different quality presets and include frame generation, so the example is an image comparison under stated conditions, not a controlled estimate of the standalone FPS gain from FSR Upscaling 4.1.
AMD says results vary with the game, output resolution, selected quality mode and hardware. The RX 6800 XT example therefore should not be converted into a percentage for every RX 6000 card. A 6900-series card, a 6400-series card and a laptop configuration can have very different limits, and the game’s own workload remains decisive.
Does RX 6000 support FSR frame generation too?
RX 6000’s newly documented Redstone support is for ML-based upscaling. It does not extend to every newer Redstone feature. AMD restricts ML frame generation and driver-assisted frame pacing to RX 9000. An FSR Upscaling 4.1 option on an RX 6000 is therefore not evidence that the card has the newer ML frame-generation path.

- Upscaling renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output image. This is the RX 6000 feature covered here.
- Frame generation creates additional displayed frames and has its own hardware, software and game requirements.
- Analytical frame generation is a distinct fallback technology and should not be described as the newer ML frame-generation implementation.
How much does activation cost?
For someone who already owns a compatible RX 6000, activation requires no new GPU purchase. The documented route is an AMD driver update and a supported game integration. Download the driver from AMD rather than paying a third party to “fix” or unlock it.
A physical purchase is relevant only if you are building or replacing a system and need a compatible card. AMD uses a Radeon RX 6800 XT in its comparison and lists US retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Micro Center and Newegg. An honest shopping search phrase is “AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card.” Availability, pricing and any retailer affiliate arrangement can change, so buying a card is not an activation step for an existing RX 6000 owner.
What should you check if FSR 4.1 will not activate?
Work through the prerequisites in order instead of immediately installing an injector or replacement DLL. A missing option can reflect the game’s integration or API rather than a fault with the graphics card.

- Verify the Adrenalin version. The documented Windows driver route starts with 26.10.1. An older package predates the RX 6000 support announcement.
- Verify the GPU model. Confirm that the system is using a Radeon RX 6000-series discrete GPU, not an unsupported graphics device or a different adapter selected by the game.
- Check the operating system. AMD lists Windows 11 21H2 or later and Windows 10 64-bit 21H2 or later, subject to product support.
- Check the installed game build. A supported-games listing does not prove that your current build has the same integration. Install the developer’s current update if one is available.
- Identify the game’s FSR version. For the driver route, look for an actual FSR 3.1-or-higher integration. A generic “FSR 3” label is not sufficient evidence.
- Identify the graphics API. A Vulkan title is not automatically upgraded by the driver and needs suitable SDK 2.4 integration. A qualifying DirectX 12 title is the intended driver-upgrade case.
- Enable both settings for the driver route. Turn on AMD FSR Upscaling in Adrenalin while the game is closed, then select AMD FSR 3.1 inside the game after relaunching.
- Check the quality control. Some games hide upscaling choices behind an advanced graphics menu or expose only selected presets.
- Account for laptop support. If the general AMD package behaves incorrectly on a laptop or all-in-one, use the system maker’s validated driver instead.
- Do not infer frame-generation support. Seeing a separate frame-generation control does not expand RX 6000’s ML Redstone support.
If the option remains absent, check the title developer’s current support information and API selection. AMD’s supported-games list can change and does not document every individual game’s present build, API path or menu wording.

Install Adrenalin 26.10.1 or later on a supported Radeon RX 6000, confirm that the game has the right FSR integration, and then choose the appropriate route. Use the game’s native FSR Upscaling 4.1 or FSR 4 option when it exists. For an eligible DirectX 12 title with FSR 3.1 or newer, close the game, enable AMD FSR Upscaling under Adrenalin’s Gaming > Graphics page, relaunch and select AMD FSR 3.1 in the game. Vulkan titles require SDK 2.4 integration instead of an automatic driver upgrade. RX 6000 provides the upscaling feature, not every newer ML frame-generation feature.

Should I use AMD’s general driver package on a Radeon laptop?
