For most U.S. players who care primarily about Japanese rhythm games and licensed anime-style crane prizes, Round1 is the better first stop. Round1’s U.S. arcade materials specifically highlight Japanese cabinets such as maimai DX, beatmania IIDX, SOUND VOLTEX, DanceDanceRevolution WORLD and Taiko no Tatsujin, and it promotes licensed plush and figures. Dave & Buster’s is a credible alternative when you want a larger mixed-group venue, substantial dining and bar service, or a qualifying game promotion. It also lists rhythm, dance and claw categories, but its detailed cabinet examples come from a pilot location rather than a chainwide inventory. Neither company publishes a universal U.S. price, machine count, prize-stock list or crane win rate, so the best choice depends on your nearest branch and the exact games you want to play.
Which is better for anime game fans: Round1 or Dave & Buster’s?
Choose Round1 if your priority is Japanese-origin rhythm gaming, browsing character prizes or combining arcade play with bowling, karaoke or billiards. Choose Dave & Buster’s if your group values a broad arcade mix, a full restaurant-and-bar outing or a local promotion on eligible standard games more than a specific Japanese cabinet.
This is an offering-based comparison, not a chainwide machine census or a firsthand test. Cabinets, prize stock, operating status, prices and promotions can change by branch. Before traveling, verify the exact location and ask whether the machine or prize you want is currently available.

Round1 is the stronger starting point for Japanese rhythm-game fans because its own U.S. arcade showcase names the games that define this niche. The showcase includes maimai DX, beatmania IIDX, SOUND VOLTEX, DanceDanceRevolution WORLD and Taiko no Tatsujin. Those titles cover touch-panel play, turntable-and-keyboard play, arcade-style music games, dance play and drum-based rhythm play.

Round1’s presentation is promotional rather than a promise that every venue has every cabinet. The company labels some games as select-location offerings or “coming soon.” A listing on the national page therefore tells you what Round1 is pursuing, not what is guaranteed at the branch nearest you.
For a specific title, contact the venue or check its current local information before loading a card. Ask three separate questions:
- Is the exact cabinet installed at this branch?
- Is it operating today, rather than powered down for service?
- Does it accept the current card and credit system at the displayed price?
That verification matters especially for fans searching for “maimai or SOUND VOLTEX near me.” A national showcase cannot establish local availability, cabinet condition or queue length. Round1’s locator and general arcade page do not provide a complete, continuously updated machine inventory.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Round1’s Japanese focus also affects the atmosphere of a visit. A player who wants to move between several music-game formats can potentially spend the session on rhythm titles instead of treating them as one small category among many. The actual mix still varies by building, so treat that as a reason to investigate a branch, not as a guarantee.
Does Dave & Buster’s have Japanese rhythm games?
Dave & Buster’s definitely lists rhythm/dance and claw/crane categories, but its public materials do not present the same nationwide Japanese-game showcase as Round1. A Dave & Buster’s games-in-store page says that every store carries the core arcade categories while individual machines and larger attractions vary by building size and market.
Its Crane City FAQ for Euless, the pilot location, names Dance Dance Revolution A20 and Pump It Up Phoenix. Those are useful examples of what can appear at a Dave & Buster’s, but they are not a chainwide inventory. You should not assume that another branch has either cabinet, or that a listed machine is still operating when you arrive.
Dave & Buster’s broad category mix includes fighting, racing, shooters, redemption games and other attractions in addition to rhythm and dance. That can be an advantage for a group with different tastes: one person can play a dance game while others choose racers, shooters or ticket games. It is less compelling if everyone specifically wants Japanese music-game cabinets.
When calling a branch, use the exact title rather than asking whether it has “anime games.” Staff may recognize a cabinet name more readily than a broad genre label. Also ask whether the machine is in the normal arcade area or a special zone such as Crane City.

Which arcade has better anime claw-machine prizes?
Round1 has the clearer documented advantage for fans seeking licensed character plush and figures. Its U.S. arcade materials promote officially licensed prizes, including some exclusives, and state: Fresh prizes land at Round1 every month!
That is a statement about the chain’s replenishment program, not a guarantee that a particular plush is on the floor at your branch today.
Round1 also announced new crane prizes in October 2026. An announcement identifies planned or newly promoted items; it does not prove quantities, arrival dates or remaining stock at every store. Prize selection, stock and machine settings can differ by location.
Dave & Buster’s has claw and crane games, and its Crane City program creates a distinctive prize path at participating locations. In the Euless pilot, eligible plush can be traded for Crane Bucks toward larger prizes. Only qualifying Crane City plush count. A plush won from an ordinary crane, or a prize from a different machine, does not automatically qualify.
Recommended Free Tools
Crane City is therefore a useful exception rather than a chainwide reason to choose Dave & Buster’s. The company’s FAQ does not establish that every Dave & Buster’s has a Crane City zone. Confirm that the location participates and ask which plush are eligible before planning around Crane Bucks.
Neither operator publishes a comparable U.S. crane win-rate figure. A display full of recognizable characters does not tell you the odds, payout strength or number of attempts needed. Set a spending limit, inspect the prize you would actually take home and stop when the entertainment value no longer justifies another play.
How do Round1 and Dave & Buster’s compare for a whole group?
| What your group wants | Better starting point | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Several Japanese rhythm and music-game formats | Round1 | Confirm the named cabinets and their operating status at the chosen branch. |
| Licensed character plush or figures to browse while playing cranes | Round1 | Exclusives, quantities and current stock are location-dependent. |
| Different players choosing fighting, racing, shooters and redemption games | Dave & Buster’s may fit | Individual machines vary by building and market. |
| Dining and bar time as a major part of the outing | Dave & Buster’s may fit | Compare the actual restaurant, seating and hours at both nearby venues. |
| Bowling, karaoke or billiards alongside arcade play | Round1 may fit | Not every Round1 location offers every activity. |
| A promotional day for eligible standard arcade games | Dave & Buster’s may fit | Check the live offer, excluded games and local pricing. |
This table identifies a starting point, not a universal winner. A large Round1 can be a better mixed outing than a small Dave & Buster’s, while a nearby Dave & Buster’s with the exact dance cabinet you want can beat a distant Round1 without it.
What activities does Round1 offer besides rhythm games?
Round1’s U.S. activity listings combine arcade games with other entertainment options. Depending on the branch, those can include bowling, karaoke and billiards, along with food and bar service. The location qualifier is important: the national activity page does not mean every building has every attraction.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThis makes Round1 a practical choice for a group that wants an anime-game-focused arcade session but needs a second activity for people who do not play rhythm games. Check the individual location’s activity list, age rules, operating hours and reservation requirements before promising bowling or karaoke to your group.

What activities does Dave & Buster’s offer besides rhythm games?
Dave & Buster’s positions the arcade as a broad entertainment floor with fighting, racing, shooters, redemption games, rhythm/dance and claw/crane categories. The operator says its stores carry core categories but that individual machines and larger attractions vary by building size and market.
The result is predictable variety rather than predictable titles. A branch may offer enough different game types to keep a mixed group occupied, but you cannot infer that it has a particular rhythm cabinet, VR attraction or large-format game from a national category list. Use the local branch as the unit of comparison.
How do the play cards and payment systems compare?
Both chains use rechargeable electronic play cards and ticket systems, but the mechanics and terminology differ.
Round1 cards
- Round1 offers a regular play card and a Club card.
- The Club card provides a special game-credit rate according to Round1’s arcade information.
- Electronic redemption tickets are associated with arcade play.
A special Club rate does not prove that Round1 is always cheaper per game. The final cost depends on the game’s displayed credit requirement, the amount you load, membership terms and which machines you play. Compare the price shown at the branch for your intended titles.
Dave & Buster’s Power Cards
- You can use a physical Power Card or an app-based digital card.
- Games can require different numbers of chips.
- Electronic tickets support redemption play.
The digital option can be convenient if members of your group do not want another physical card. It also means you should confirm that every player’s phone, account and card transfer are ready before buying chips at the venue.
Neither company’s general pages provide a safe, universal per-play price comparison for U.S. locations. Prices and credit requirements can change, and a rhythm cabinet may use a different number of credits from a nearby crane or redemption game.
Are Dave & Buster’s half-price and unlimited-play deals useful for rhythm or crane fans?
Dave & Buster’s prominently advertises half-price games on Wednesdays. The detailed arcade-page terms reviewed for this comparison also mention Sunday, along with exclusions and language allowing the offer to change or be canceled. Treat Wednesday as a clearly advertised possibility, but check the live terms for your intended store before planning a trip around Sunday or Wednesday.
The Eat & Play offer requires a Power Card purchase, has location-dependent pricing and may change. A generic starting price from marketing material should not be treated as a universal total for every branch.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Most importantly for this audience, the promotional unlimited-play upgrade excludes purple-swipe cranes and dance games, as well as VR and merchandise games among other exclusions. If your plan is DanceDanceRevolution, Pump It Up or crane play, unlimited play may not cover the games you care about. Read the in-store or current online terms, then ask an employee to identify the swipe color and eligibility before buying the upgrade.
A half-price discount on eligible standard games also does not establish that Dave & Buster’s is cheaper for a complete anime-focused session. If the offer excludes your rhythm and crane choices, it may have little effect on your actual spend.
Is Round1 cheaper than Dave & Buster’s?
There is no defensible chainwide answer. Round1 advertises a special Club credit rate, while Dave & Buster’s advertises promotions that can reduce the price of eligible games on particular days. The reviewed pages do not provide matched, current prices for the same cabinet type at equivalent U.S. locations.

To compare your likely cost, write down the games you genuinely intend to play and check each displayed credit requirement. How should you choose a branch before visiting?
Use this five-minute verification process to avoid the most common disappointment: traveling to a venue for a game or prize that is not there.
- Find both nearby locations. Use the official locators and note the exact address, hours and activities. A larger building may have more attractions, but size alone does not prove a particular cabinet is installed.
- Name the exact game. Ask about maimai DX, beatmania IIDX, SOUND VOLTEX, DanceDanceRevolution WORLD, Taiko no Tatsujin, Dance Dance Revolution A20 or Pump It Up Phoenix instead of asking for “anime games.”
- Confirm operating status. Ask whether the cabinet is powered, accepting cards and available for public play today. A machine can be listed yet temporarily unavailable.
- Check prize stock. If a character plush or figure is the main reason for the trip, ask whether the item is currently in the crane area. Do not assume a monthly-prize announcement means stock remains at every store.
- Price the actual session. Read the chip or credit cost on the machines you plan to use. Ask which games a promotion excludes, especially dance cabinets, purple-swipe cranes, merchandise games and VR.
Save the branch’s phone number and recheck shortly before leaving if the visit is long-distance. Inventory and promotions are operational details, not permanent chain features.

Start with Round1 and verify the exact cabinet at the nearest branch. Its national showcase is the strongest documented evidence of Japanese-game emphasis, but location labels and “coming soon” notes mean you still need confirmation.

Your group includes non-gamers who want dinner and a broad arcade
Dave & Buster’s may be the smoother choice when dining, bar time and many game categories matter more than Japanese titles. Compare the actual venues, because Round1 also lists food, bar service and additional activities at some locations.
You want bowling, karaoke or billiards in the same outing
Round1 may fit better, provided the selected branch offers the activity and has suitable hours or reservations. Confirm the local activity list rather than relying on the chain name.
You are planning around an unlimited-play deal
Read the current exclusions first. Dave & Buster’s unlimited-play upgrade specifically excludes dance games and purple-swipe cranes, so it may be a poor match for a rhythm-and-crane itinerary even when the headline price looks attractive.
What mistakes should anime arcade visitors avoid?
- Assuming a national showcase equals local stock. Named Round1 games and Dave & Buster’s category pages are not live machine inventories.
- Confusing a pilot with a chainwide program. Crane City’s documented pilot is in Euless; do not assume every Dave & Buster’s participates.
- Assuming “licensed” means a specific character is guaranteed. Licensed prize programs still depend on shipments, quantities and local turnover.
- Using a generic promotion to price a specialized session. Dance games, cranes and merchandise games can be excluded from unlimited-play offers.
- Comparing credit labels instead of total spend. A chip, credit or Club rate has meaning only alongside the machine’s actual requirement and any card purchase.
- Relying on an old social-media photo. A cabinet or plush shown in a past post may have moved, sold out or been replaced.
- Ignoring queue and maintenance questions. Even when a cabinet is present, downtime or a long line can change whether the trip meets your goal.
What is the practical verdict?
For a U.S. anime-game fan, Round1 is the better first search because its official U.S. materials directly emphasize Japanese rhythm games and licensed character prizes. It is the more logical place to begin when your must-have list includes a Japanese music cabinet or anime-style crane browsing.
Dave & Buster’s is the better alternative when your nearest branch has the dance cabinet you want, your group needs broader arcade categories and substantial dining, or a live promotion applies to the games you actually plan to play. Its Euless Crane City pilot and named dance cabinets show that it can serve this audience, but neither is a guarantee for every branch.
Make the final decision locally: verify the cabinet, check prize stock, read the promotion exclusions and compare the displayed credit cost. That process is more reliable than assuming one chain is always cheaper, always better stocked or universally superior.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check whether a specific Round1 rhythm game is at my nearest location online?
Round1’s national arcade page shows featured titles but does not expose a complete live machine inventory for every branch. For a must-play cabinet, call the location and ask about installation and current operating status before traveling.
Does winning any Dave & Buster’s plush earn Crane Bucks?
No. Crane City rules apply only to qualifying plush from participating Crane City locations. A plush from an ordinary crane or a nonparticipating store is not automatically eligible.
Are Round1’s licensed anime prizes guaranteed to be available?
No. Round1 promotes licensed plush and figures, but shipments, quantities and sell-through vary by location. Treat announcements as availability guidance and confirm current stock with the branch.
Can I use Dave & Buster’s digital Power Card without carrying a physical card?
Dave & Buster’s supports an app-based digital Power Card as well as a physical card. Set up the app and account before arriving so you can confirm the card is ready for chip purchases and game swipes.
What should I budget for a rhythm-game session at either chain?
There is no universal per-play price published for both chains. Check each machine’s displayed chip or credit requirement, include any card purchase or promotion conditions, and add food, parking or other activities to your branch-specific total.
