The right robot vacuum for a dog home depends on your floors and the kind of mess you need it to handle—not on a single “best” label. Tom’s Guide’s October 8, 2026 guide names the Roborock Saros 20 its best overall, while its other picks target value, carpet, hard floors and odor control. Below, each recommendation is tied to its intended use and the limits reported by the testing publisher.
Dog owners should also separate three jobs: collecting dry fur, avoiding objects and accidents, and wet-mopping hard floors. A robot can be excellent at one and merely adequate at another. The recommendations here therefore explain what each model is for, what its testing did not show, and what work you will still need to do.
Which robot vacuum is best for pet hair?
For an all-around starting point, Tom’s Guide selected the Roborock Saros 20 as its best overall in a guide last updated October 8, 2026. It reports 36,000 Pa suction, a pet-hair score of 80, strong hair pickup and strong obstacle avoidance. But it is not automatically the best fit for every dog home: carpet, long hair, obstacles, mopping and how much maintenance you are willing to do can change the choice.

The five picks below follow Tom’s Guide’s tested recommendations, organized by household need rather than presented as a universal ranking. Its suction figures and pet-hair scores are model specifications or results from that publisher’s tests, not a standardized rating that can be directly compared with another publication’s scores.

| Household need | Pick | What the cited testing reports | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| One robot for varied needs | Roborock Saros 20 | 36,000 Pa suction; pet-hair score of 80 in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 testing | Missed some sticky spots while mopping |
| Lower-cost/value choice | Eufy Omni C28 | 87% pet-hair test score in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 testing | Airflow can blow debris out of its path; navigation can be erratic |
| Carpet and lighter pet hair | Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow | 20,000 Pa suction and a pet-hair score of 75 in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 testing | Struggled with dense, tangled clumps |
| Hard floors and mopping | Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai | 18,000 Pa suction; pet-hair score of 82.5; Tom’s Guide reported strong mopping in 2026 | Bulky, premium design |
| Odor-related fragrance feature | Eufy Omni S2 | 30,000 Pa suction; pet-hair score of 84 in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 testing | Edge-cleaning and navigation caveats |
Scores and suction values in the table belong to Tom’s Guide’s named models and 2026 coverage. They should not be treated as population statistics or as directly comparable with scores from RTINGS, which tests and selects different models using its own approach.
Choose by the job you need done most
- Mixed floors and broad capability: Start with the Saros 20, then weigh its reported mopping miss against your need for wet cleaning. Its 36,000 Pa figure is a specification, while the score of 80 is a result from Tom’s Guide’s own pet-hair test.
- Value: Consider the Omni C28 if its reported 87% pet-hair result is appealing and you can tolerate navigation that may be erratic and airflow that can push debris out of the cleaning path. “Value” does not mean every feature or the lowest verified price; retail pricing and availability vary by market.
- Carpet: The Qrevo Curv 2 Flow is Tom’s Guide’s carpet pick, but its reported difficulty with dense tangled clumps matters in a home with heavy shedding or long coats. It is a better match for lighter hair than for compacted piles.
- Hard floors and mop performance: The Dyson is the targeted pick when mopping is important. Tom’s Guide gave it an 82.5 pet-hair score and reported strong mopping, but its bulky, premium design may be a poor match for a tight space or a budget-conscious buyer.
- Odor-focused feature: The Omni S2 includes odor-related fragrance technology and has a reported score of 84 at 30,000 Pa. Fragrance technology is an added feature, not proof that the robot removes every odor source or replaces cleaning a soiled area.
What is notable about each pick?
Roborock Saros 20: This is the broadest choice in Tom’s Guide’s list. The guide reports strong hair pickup and obstacle avoidance, useful for a home where the robot must transition between rooms and deal with ordinary floor clutter. Its limitation is specific but important if you expect a robot mop to remove dried food or sticky residue: some sticky spots were missed. Keep a manual mop for those areas.
Eufy Omni C28: The 87% pet-hair result is the highest numeric result among Tom’s Guide’s five named picks, but the same guide warns that airflow can blow debris out of the robot’s path. That can matter around loose kibble, tufts of fur or lightweight litter. Erratic navigation may also mean more supervision during early mapping and more floor preparation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRoborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow: Tom’s Guide reports 20,000 Pa suction and a score of 75, with good handling of lighter pet hair. Dense, tangled clumps are the dividing line. If your dog drops compacted tufts near beds or along baseboards, expect to remove some by hand or clean the brush more often.
Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai: This hard-floor-oriented option pairs an 18,000 Pa specification with an 82.5 pet-hair score and strong mopping in Tom’s Guide’s coverage. The trade-off is physical: a bulky, premium design needs enough clearance for its robot and dock. Measure the intended parking space and nearby passages rather than assuming every dock will fit under existing furniture.
Eufy Omni S2: The 30,000 Pa specification, score of 84 and odor-related fragrance feature make it a feature-led option. Tom’s Guide still notes edge-cleaning and navigation caveats. Hair and crumbs left along wall edges can require a hand vacuum even when the center of the room looks clean.
What should dog owners compare before buying?
Pet hair is not one uniform test. Loose fur on hard flooring, hair pressed into carpet, and long strands wrapped around a roller create different demands. Decide which floor surface and type of hair are the problem before using a score or suction figure to narrow the field.

Hair pickup on hard floors versus carpet
A robot can collect loose fur from a hard floor yet leave hair embedded in carpet. RTINGS’ 2026 guide illustrates that distinction: it describes its Roborock Saros Z70 pick as strong on hard floors and good at carpet pet-hair pickup, while noting that some embedded hair remains. Its MOVA P10 Pro Ultra pick is especially capable at obstacle handling but weaker at carpet hair pickup.
For carpet-heavy homes, do not assume that an obstacle-avoidance feature or a large suction number guarantees deeper hair removal. Tom’s Guide reported that the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow handled lighter pet hair well but had difficulty with dense tangled clumps. That limitation is particularly relevant if your dog sheds heavily or leaves clumps in high-traffic areas.
Carpet pile, rug edges and transitions can also change the result from room to room. Give the carpet performance more weight than a headline Pa number if most of your dog’s hair ends up pressed into rugs. Conversely, a hard-floor home may benefit more from edge cleaning, navigation and a dependable schedule than from the strongest carpet score.
Do robot vacuums get tangled with long pet hair?
They can. Tangle-resistant or rubber-brush designs can reduce hair wrapping, but they do not make brush maintenance unnecessary. RTINGS describes the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra as carpet-capable and equipped with a Tri-Cut brushroll, while still noting that hair may wrap around it. Eufy’s support guidance advises more frequent roller-brush cleaning for long-haired pets; that is manufacturer advice, not a comparative test result.

If your dog has a long coat, plan to inspect and clean the roller regularly, even if the product is marketed as tangle resistant. A brush that needs less frequent attention is not the same as a brush that never needs attention. Long strands can also wind around end caps and impede movement before the robot displays an obvious warning.
Obstacle avoidance and pet messes
Obstacle avoidance differs by model and may weaken on carpet. RTINGS describes the Saros Z70’s obstacle avoidance as very good overall but less effective on carpet; it also reports inconsistent avoidance of pet waste on carpet for the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra. Its MOVA P10 Pro Ultra is the pick it describes as especially capable at obstacle handling, while the budget Roborock Q7 M5 has basic hazard detection.

These distinctions are reasons to clear toys and other hazards before a run, not reasons to trust a robot with every object or pet accident. iRobot’s pet-owner guidance says liquid accidents should be cleaned manually first and describes its robots as designed for dry pet messes. A robot vacuum is not a substitute for cleaning urine or another wet accident by hand.
Even a robot with strong detection can encounter a new object, a dark item or a mess on a surface where detection is less reliable. Keep chew toys, cords and small bowls out of the route when possible. If your dog has recently had an accident, pause the schedule and inspect the floor rather than hoping the sensors will identify it.
Dock convenience and ongoing maintenance
A self-emptying dock reduces how often you need to empty the robot’s onboard bin. It does not eliminate cleaning the roller, maintaining filters or attending to the dock. Compare the convenience of fewer bin-emptying trips with the continuing upkeep your household will actually do; the available findings do not establish a single maintenance interval for all models or dogs.
Dock capacity also changes the ownership routine. A heavy-shedding dog can fill a bag or bin faster than a lightly shedding pet, so check the exact dock consumables and replacement schedule for the model you choose. Compatibility of bags and filters is model-specific and should be confirmed before ordering.
Vacuuming and mopping are separate jobs
A vacuum-mop combination should be judged on both functions. Tom’s Guide reported strong mopping from the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai, but said the Saros 20 missed some sticky spots. The same guide’s results do not establish that either robot handles liquid pet accidents; iRobot’s guidance is to clean those manually first.
Mopping is most relevant on sealed hard floors. It does not compensate for weak carpet pickup, and fragrance or a damp pass does not remove the need to treat a soiled area. If dry fur is your main problem, prioritize brush and floor performance; if paw prints and dried spills are frequent, give the named mopping result greater weight.

How do the two 2026 testing guides differ?
Tom’s Guide’s October 8, 2026 update and RTINGS’ 2026 guide do not produce one shared top-five ranking. They feature different models and surface different trade-offs, so their recommendations are useful as separate, attributed perspectives—not as a combined league table.

RTINGS’ qualitative descriptions and Tom’s Guide’s numeric scores come from separate evaluations. A score of 87% from one publisher cannot be fairly ranked against a score of 84 from another unless the test methods are known to match; they are not established as equivalent here. The different lists are not a contradiction: one guide may emphasize mopping or value, while another gives more weight to carpet, obstacles or a particular test surface.
How often should I run my Roomba® robot with pets?
iRobot recommends that pet owners run their Roomba robot daily to keep up with continuous shedding, dander and tracked debris. That is the manufacturer’s recommendation, not a universal schedule proven for every robot, home or dog.
Use it as a starting point and adjust to the amount of shedding, floor coverage and debris in your home. A frequent schedule can help keep up with ongoing shedding, but it does not remove the need to inspect brushes or handle wet accidents manually. A dog that sheds seasonally may need more frequent attention during coat changes, while a low-shedding dog may leave less dry fur but still track grit indoors.
How can you choose without overvaluing a spec?
Use specifications and test scores as clues, then match them to the mess and rooms in your home. Tom’s Guide’s figures are helpful for comparing models within that guide, but suction in pascals alone does not tell you how much embedded hair a robot removes from your carpet or how well it navigates around your dog’s toys.
- List your main surfaces. Note whether the robot will spend most of its time on carpet, hard flooring or a mix. Give carpet pickup extra weight if hair is pressed into rugs or carpet.
- Describe the coat and shedding. Long strands make brush inspection and tangling more important; dense clumps can challenge a model that handles lighter fur.
- Decide whether mopping is a real requirement. If it is, look for a reported mopping result rather than inferring mop quality from vacuum performance. Keep liquid pet accidents out of the robot’s job.
- Set your obstacle expectations. Choose a model based on the objects it is reported to avoid, but still clear toys and hazards rather than relying on detection in every room and surface condition.
- Count the upkeep you will accept. A self-emptying dock can reduce bin handling, but account for brush, filter and dock maintenance too.
- Set a realistic cost ceiling. Product prices, regional names and inventory are not fixed here. Check the current price of the exact model, then add the likely cost of compatible bags, filters and other consumables before deciding that a premium dock or feature is worth it.
- Check the exact model before ordering. Regional model names, availability, replacement-part compatibility and prices are not established here; verify those details for the product and market you intend to buy.
What maintenance should dog owners expect?
Robot vacuums reduce some routine floor-cleaning work, but dog hair and tracked debris still require attention. The most important recurring task for a hair-prone household is checking the roller brush, especially when a dog has a long coat or the robot is collecting tangled clumps.
- Inspect the roller brush: Remove wrapped hair when needed; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your model. Eufy specifically advises more frequent roller cleaning for long-haired pets.
- Keep up with filters and the dock: Self-emptying means less frequent handling of the onboard bin, not maintenance-free operation. Check the dock intake and replace consumables with parts listed for the exact model.
- Prepare the floor: Move toys and other hazards before a scheduled clean, particularly if your robot’s avoidance capability is limited or changes on carpet.
- Clean wet messes manually: Do not send the robot over urine or other liquid pet accidents. iRobot says to clean pet accidents manually first.
- Adjust the schedule to shedding: iRobot recommends daily runs for its Roomba robots in homes with pets; frequency needs can differ by home and model.
- Watch edges and corners: Models with reported edge-cleaning caveats may leave a strip of fur along walls. Plan occasional hand-vacuum passes instead of assuming the robot reaches every perimeter.
What is the practical takeaway for a dog home?
Choose the robot for the hardest job in your home, not the biggest headline number. The Saros 20 is Tom’s Guide’s all-around pick; the C28 targets value, the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow targets carpet, the Dyson targets hard floors and mopping, and the Omni S2 offers an odor-related fragrance feature. Each has a reported limitation, and neither obstacle avoidance nor a self-emptying dock removes the need for basic preparation and upkeep.

Before buying, confirm the exact regional model, current price, dock-bag and filter compatibility, and the space required for the dock. Then set expectations: run the robot regularly for dry debris, clean long hair from the brush, clear toys, and handle liquid accidents yourself. That combination of a suitable model and realistic maintenance is more useful than any single suction figure.

Do higher Pa numbers mean a robot vacuum will pick up more dog hair?
Not by themselves. A pascal rating is a suction specification, while pickup also depends on the brush, floor surface and the kind of hair; use a named test result alongside the rating rather than treating suction as a complete performance score.
Which robot vacuum is best for pet hair?
There is no universal winner. Tom’s Guide named the Roborock Saros 20 its best overall on October 8, 2026, while its other picks target value, carpet, hard floors and odor-related features. Choose according to your floors, coat type, obstacle concerns and mopping needs.
Do robot vacuums get tangled with long pet hair?
They can. Rubber or tangle-resistant designs reduce wrapping but do not eliminate it. Eufy advises cleaning roller brushes more often for long-haired pets, and RTINGS notes that hair may still wrap around the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra’s Tri-Cut brushroll.
Can robot vacuums clean up dog urine?
Do not use a robot vacuum for a liquid pet accident. iRobot’s pet-owner guidance says to clean liquid accidents manually first; the robot’s dry-mess guidance does not establish that another brand or model can safely handle liquids.

No. Self-emptying reduces routine emptying of the onboard bin, but the brush, filter and dock still need attention. The frequency depends on the model and household, and the guidance cited here does not establish one schedule that applies to every dog home.
How often should I run my Roomba® robot with pets?
iRobot recommends daily runs to keep up with continuous shedding, dander and tracked debris. Treat that as the manufacturer’s starting point, then adjust for your dog, floor coverage and shedding level.
Are pet-hair scores from different review sites comparable?
Not unless the publishers use equivalent testing methods, which is not established for the guides discussed here. Treat each score as a result within that publication’s own evaluation rather than ranking percentages from separate guides against one another.
Is a robot vacuum-mop combination enough for sticky or wet dog messes?
Not necessarily. Tom’s Guide reported strong mopping from the Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai but some missed sticky spots from the Saros 20. iRobot says liquid pet accidents should be cleaned manually first, so keep a separate method for wet messes.
