If your Ring doorbell is offline, check Ring’s service status and your home internet first, then inspect the doorbell’s power and Wi-Fi signal in the Ring app. This order helps distinguish a wider outage from a local connection or device problem before you restart or reset anything.
What offline means—and where to check first
Ring Support says, “If your Ring device falls offline, you will not be able to view live video, get alerts, or record events around your home.” Start in the Ring app: look for an offline icon on the doorbell’s device tile, tap the tile to see any error code or suggested steps, then open Device Health for the device’s current status. Ring’s offline-device guidance explains these checks.
Rule out a Ring service incident or home internet problem
Check Ring.com Status for a current service incident. The status page can change, so its condition at one time does not establish whether Ring is experiencing an issue now.
Also test whether other devices in your home can reach the internet. If they cannot, the problem may be with your internet connection or router rather than the doorbell. If other devices work and Ring reports no relevant incident, continue with the doorbell’s power and Wi-Fi checks.

Check the doorbell’s power
Power checks differ by model. For a battery-powered doorbell, review its battery status in the app and charge it if needed. If it will not charge, Ring suggests testing the outlet and trying another charging cable or USB adapter; use accessories suitable for your specific model. For a wired doorbell, confirm that it is connected to the correct power source or transformer for that model. Ring’s battery-performance guidance covers battery devices; consult the instructions for your exact wired model for its power requirements.

Improve a weak connection before adding equipment
If the signal is poor, first try moving the router closer to the doorbell if practical. Ring recommends a suitable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; all Ring devices support 2.4 GHz, while only some models also support 5 GHz. Check your model’s specifications rather than assuming it supports 5 GHz.

You can also restart the modem and router: unplug them for 30 seconds, reconnect them, and allow the network to come back online before checking the doorbell again. If the doorbell remains weakly connected and moving the router is not practical, a compatible Wi-Fi extender or mesh setup may help extend coverage to its location. Ring names Chime Pro and eero as possible options, but neither is a universal fix; confirm compatibility and whether the added coverage addresses the actual weak spot. Ring’s modem and eero troubleshooting guidance includes network steps.
Reconnect the doorbell to Wi-Fi
If the network is working but the doorbell is still offline, use the app’s network flow:

- Open the Ring app and select the offline doorbell.
- Open Device Health, then choose Reconnect or Change Network, as available.
- Follow the app prompts and the doorbell’s light or audio cues to complete setup on your home Wi-Fi network.
Ring devices require a home Wi-Fi network. Support for 5 GHz varies by model, so use the band supported by your device. If setup fails, check that the selected network is available where the doorbell is installed and that its password is correct.

If the doorbell remains offline or becomes unresponsive after the checks above, follow the reboot or power-cycle instructions for its exact model. Ring notes that an in-app reboot requires the device to be connected to Wi-Fi, so it will not help when the doorbell cannot connect at all. Do not begin with a factory reset: use Ring’s model-specific instructions and reserve reset steps for persistent problems. See Ring’s reboot instructions and its offline-device troubleshooting steps.
