How do I reorder PDF pages in Acrobat desktop?
Open the thumbnail-based page organizer, select the page or block, drag it to the new position, and save. This is the most flexible route when you also need to copy pages between documents or perform other page operations.
- Open the PDF in Acrobat desktop.
- Choose All tools > Organize pages. Acrobat displays a visual thumbnail for each page.
- Click a thumbnail to select one page. To select a consecutive or nonconsecutive group, hold Ctrl on Windows or Command on macOS while clicking the pages.
- Drag the selected thumbnail or group until the insertion indicator appears at the desired location, then release the mouse button.
- Inspect the first page, the last page, and both sides of the moved block. Save the result, preferably under a new filename until you have confirmed the order.
How can I move a page to the beginning or end?
In the organizer, select the thumbnail and drag it above the current first page or below the current last page. For a block, select every page in the block before dragging; checking the first and last page of that block afterward confirms that the entire selection moved together.
Can Acrobat move pages between two PDFs?
Yes. Acrobat documents cut-and-paste and copy-and-paste page movement in addition to dragging thumbnails. Open both PDFs, select the source thumbnails, copy or cut them, activate the destination document’s page organizer, and paste them at the intended position. Copying preserves the source file; cutting removes the selected pages from that document, so use a duplicate when you are not certain.
What if dragging is awkward with a long PDF?
Increase the thumbnail area or use the organizer’s scrolling region so the target location is visible before you begin the drag. For a distant destination, move a smaller group at a time and verify each insertion rather than dragging a large block across many screens.
How do I reorder PDF pages with Acrobat online?
The online organizer is useful when you need a quick browser-based edit: select or drop in the PDF, arrange thumbnails, save, and download the new file.
- Open Acrobat’s online organizer and choose the option to select a file, or drag the PDF into the organizer.
- Wait for the upload to finish. The page thumbnails appear after Acrobat processes the file.

- Choose Save.
- Download the reorganized PDF or share it from the result screen. Give the downloaded file a new, descriptive name so it is not confused with the source.
What are Acrobat online’s size limits?
Adobe’s 2026 product page says the online organizer handles PDFs of up to 1,500 pages and files under 100 MB. Those are stated service limits, not a guarantee that every unusually complex PDF will process identically; if an upload fails near a limit, use a local desktop workflow or split the source into smaller documents.

Is an online organizer suitable for confidential PDFs?
The online workflow uploads the document to Adobe’s servers. Adobe says files are securely handled and deleted unless you sign in to save them, but an upload may still conflict with an employer, client, legal, medical, or government data policy. For sensitive material, choose a local application such as Preview or PDFsam Visual instead of relying on a browser service.
How can I reorder PDF pages on a Mac using Preview?
Preview is built into macOS and can rearrange pages without installing a separate PDF editor. Its thumbnail and contact-sheet views make the page order visible while you work.
- Open the PDF in Preview.

Apple cautions that deleting a page from a PDF removes all annotations on that page as well. How do I reorder a group of PDF pages without losing the sequence?
Select the complete group before dragging it, then verify its first and last page after the move. This approach is faster than moving pages one by one and reduces the chance of putting an appendix, chapter, or form section in the wrong order.
Moving consecutive pages
Click the first thumbnail, hold the platform’s multi-select key, and click the final thumbnail or the other pages in the range. Drag the highlighted group to the insertion point. If the application selects only one page, undo the move and select the group again before continuing.
Moving nonconsecutive pages
Use Ctrl-click on Windows or Command-click on macOS in Acrobat desktop to select separate thumbnails. Move the selection only when every highlighted page belongs in the destination block; otherwise, move the groups separately so their intended order remains obvious.
Inserting a page from another file

How can I reorder PDF pages for free?

How do I check the PDF before saving?
A short verification routine catches most ordering mistakes before they reach a client or archive. Perform it after every substantial move, especially when you moved a selected block.

- Check the first page: confirm that the intended cover, title, or opening form is now first.
- Check the moved block: inspect the page immediately before it, the first page in the block, the last page in the block, and the page immediately after it.
- Check the last page: make sure the intended ending, signature page, or appendix has not been displaced.
- Check page count: compare the output’s number of pages with the source, unless you intentionally added or deleted pages.
- Check readability: open several moved pages, including a page with graphics or annotations, to ensure the output renders as expected.
- Save a copy: use a new filename until the order is approved. Keep the original unchanged so you can recover quickly.
What should I do if the pages are in the wrong order after saving?
Do not continue editing the only copy. Reopen the original or the last verified version, write down the intended sequence, and move one clearly identified page or block at a time.
The wrong page moved
Use the application’s undo command immediately if it is still available. Otherwise, reopen the saved copy, compare its thumbnails with the source, and repeat the move after selecting the correct thumbnail.
A block was reversed or split
Locate the first and last pages of the affected section. If the tool supports selecting the entire range, select it again and move it as one group; if the pages themselves are reversed, use PDFsam Visual’s documented reverse operation only when reversing the whole or selected set is actually the goal.
The browser upload fails

The output overwrote the source
Stop editing that file and look for an earlier copy, backup, or the original download. For future edits, save to a new filename first; after the order is verified, you can replace the old file deliberately.
