Neither Register.com nor GoDaddy is a universal winner in 2026. GoDaddy publishes clearer shared-hosting limits and a simple one-to-25-site progression, while Register.com advertises more storage and email on some packages plus malware services and a technical adviser. The plan names, prices, SSL terms and even Register.com’s advertised uptime differ by page, so the sensible choice is the provider whose capacity and security terms fit your workload after you compare the complete first-term and renewal totals at checkout.
This guide separates the providers’ published claims from independently verified facts, explains the conflicting Register.com package pages, and gives a repeatable way to choose for a personal, freelance or small-business website.
What is the short answer for most website owners?
Choose GoDaddy when you need published CPU, memory and concurrent-process ceilings, or when you are hosting several small sites and want a clearly tiered path from one to 25 websites. Choose Register.com when a package’s advertised storage, large email allowance, malware scanning or adviser support matters more and the exact offer is confirmed in your checkout. Neither provider’s marketing uptime percentage is an independent performance measurement, and neither displayed price should be treated as a permanent total cost.

|---|---|---|
| Best-documented site scaling | Package-comparison page lists one, three or 10 sites; a newer overview uses different plan labels. | US listing shows one, 10 or 25 sites on Economy, Deluxe and Ultimate. |
| Advertised storage | 15 GB to unlimited on the package-comparison page; newer overview says 300 GB for Web Hosting. | 25 GB, 50 GB or 75 GB NVMe on the surfaced US plans. |
| Published resource ceilings | No directly comparable CPU, RAM or entry-process table was surfaced. | cPanel documentation lists CPU, RAM and concurrent-entry-process limits by tier. |
| SSL wording | Premium includes SSL on the package-comparison page; the newer overview says Professional Plus adds SSL. | Economy lists SSL free for one year; Deluxe and Ultimate list free unlimited SSL for their sites. |
| Uptime wording | Different pages state 99.9% hosting uptime and 99.99% Unix uptime. | Hosting page says “99.9% uptime — guaranteed,” subject to its terms. |
| Price evidence | Promotional monthly amounts and four-week billing are described, but comparable current totals are not established here. | US introductory prices are shown for a first one-year term; a separate dated offer shows a different three-year total and renewal. |
Use the table as a starting point, not a ranking. A high-traffic application can hit a CPU or process ceiling long before it uses all its disk space, while a small brochure site may never need more than the entry tier.

How do Register.com’s published hosting packages differ?
Register.com has at least two current-looking descriptions that do not line up. Read the name and quantities on the page attached to the exact checkout offer instead of assuming that “Professional” means the same thing everywhere.
Newer Web Hosting overview
The Register.com hosting overview describes a Web Hosting tier with 300 GB of disk space, a free domain and 1,000 email boxes. It also advertises malware scanning and SFTP. Its Professional Hosting description adds unlimited disk space and email, automatic malware removal and defenses against common attacks; Professional Plus adds SSL. The overview advertises 99.9% hosting uptime and access to a technical adviser. These are provider descriptions, not independently measured results.
Separate package-comparison page
The Register.com package comparison uses four different labels and quantities:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Package shown on comparison page | Storage | Sites | Email boxes | SSL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 15 GB | 1 | 1 | Not listed as included |
| Essential | 300 GB | 3 | 3 | Not listed as included |
| Professional | 500 GB | 10 | 10 | Not listed as included |
| Premium | Unlimited | 10 | 10 | Included |
The page says annual cloud packages include a domain, plans auto-renew and rates can change. It also says monthly billing occurs every four weeks, so 12 monthly charges are not necessarily the same calendar span as a conventional 12-month subscription. Because these labels conflict with the newer overview, save a copy of the selected checkout summary showing storage, sites, mailboxes and SSL before paying.
What Register.com’s FAQ adds
The Register.com Web Hosting FAQ says most users can use Web Hosting without system-administration skills and contrasts it with VPS hosting for people who need more control. The FAQ advertises free 24/7 technical support and displays 99.99% Unix uptime. That differs from the 99.9% figure on the newer overview; neither percentage is an independently verified guarantee in this comparison.
What do GoDaddy’s Economy, Deluxe and Ultimate plans include?
GoDaddy’s surfaced US listing presents a more uniform three-tier progression. The prices below are introductory amounts displayed for the first one-year term, not guaranteed renewal prices.
| Plan | Introductory price shown | Websites | NVMe storage | SSL wording |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | $6.99 per month for the first one-year term | 1 | 25 GB | Free for one year |
| Deluxe | $9.99 per month for the first one-year term | 10 | 50 GB | Free unlimited SSL for sites |
| Ultimate | $14.99 per month for the first one-year term | 25 | 75 GB | Free unlimited SSL for sites |
The GoDaddy US hosting page also lists cPanel, free email and a domain offer. Treat “free” as a term-specific promotion: confirm how long email, the domain and SSL remain included and what each renews for. The page advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee subject to its terms.

A separate GoDaddy hosting offer captured a different three-year Economy promotion: $5.99 per month, $215.64 charged that day, auto-renewal in January 2029 at $551.63, and SSL renewing annually at $119.99. It is useful evidence of how sharply totals can change, but it is a dated offer rather than a current universal price. Do not combine it with the one-year US listing to calculate a present-day ranking.
Which provider publishes the more useful performance limits?
GoDaddy is more explicit about shared-hosting ceilings. Storage alone does not tell you whether a dynamic site will remain responsive under concurrent requests, so compare these limits with your application’s needs.
| GoDaddy cPanel tier | Accessible CPU cores | RAM | Concurrent entry processes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | 1 | 512 MB | 20 |
| Deluxe | 1 | 1 GB | 30 |
| Ultimate | 2 | 1.5 GB | 40 |
These figures come from GoDaddy’s cPanel resource-limits documentation, whose URL is for Canada. Check the resource page for your market and selected product before relying on a limit. The documentation also describes file-count and database constraints, so a site with many small files or databases should inspect those ceilings rather than looking only at NVMe capacity.
The Register.com pages surfaced for this comparison do not provide a directly comparable CPU, RAM or entry-process table. That is not proof that Register.com has higher or lower limits; it means you must request or locate the limits for the exact package. Ask specifically about CPU shares, memory, simultaneous processes, inode/file counts, database limits and what happens when a site exceeds them.
How do storage, website count and email allowances affect the choice?
Match capacity to what you will actually run, not to the largest number in a headline.
One small website
GoDaddy Economy’s one-site, 25 GB configuration is straightforward if your site fits its 512 MB RAM and 20-entry-process ceiling. Register.com Starter lists one site and 15 GB, while the newer overview advertises 300 GB for a differently named Web Hosting tier; verify which product is being sold before assuming the larger figure applies.
Several brochure or portfolio sites
GoDaddy Deluxe supports 10 sites and 50 GB, and Ultimate supports 25 sites and 75 GB. Register.com’s comparison page lists three sites on Essential and 10 on Professional or Premium, with 300 GB, 500 GB or unlimited storage respectively. A freelancer should also count mailboxes: the comparison page lists one, three or 10 boxes, while the newer overview advertises 1,000 on its Web Hosting description.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Large media libraries or many mailboxes
Register.com’s advertised 500 GB or unlimited options may be attractive for a legitimate storage-heavy workload, but confirm acceptable-use rules, backup treatment and actual file limits. GoDaddy’s 25–75 GB figures may be sufficient for normal business sites but leave less headroom for large media collections; moving media to a separate storage service can be more predictable than buying a larger shared plan solely for disk space.
Which provider offers stronger security and recovery terms?
Register.com’s surfaced materials emphasize malware services, while GoDaddy’s plan table makes SSL scope easier to see. Neither set of marketing bullets replaces a written check of backups, restoration and incident response.
- Register.com scanning and removal: the newer overview advertises malware scanning for Web Hosting and automatic malware removal and defenses against common attacks for Professional Hosting. Its benefits material also describes automatic backups in some hosting descriptions; confirm backup frequency, retention and restore fees for your package.
- Register.com SSL: the package-comparison page includes SSL with Premium, while the newer overview says Professional Plus adds SSL. Those are different page structures, so verify whether every domain, subdomain and renewal is covered.
- GoDaddy SSL: Economy lists SSL free for one year; Deluxe and Ultimate list free unlimited SSL for their sites. Confirm whether the inclusion continues at renewal and whether it covers parked or additional domains.
- Backups: do not assume that a provider’s backup is a substitute for an independent copy. Ask whether backups are automatic, how many restore points exist, whether databases are included and whether a restore is self-service or charged.
- Access controls: SFTP is explicitly mentioned in Register.com’s newer overview. GoDaddy’s listing includes cPanel. Confirm support for your preferred secure transfer method, two-factor authentication and separate administrator accounts.
How should you compare the real price instead of the advertised monthly rate?
Use a like-for-like worksheet with the same country, currency, billing term, number of sites, SSL coverage and domain treatment. Record both the amount charged today and the next renewal total.
- Select the same term for both providers, such as one year or three years. Do not compare a one-year introductory rate with a three-year promotion.
- Write down the full upfront charge, not just the monthly equivalent. GoDaddy’s dated three-year example shows why: $5.99 monthly corresponds to $215.64 paid today.
- Record the renewal date and amount. That same dated GoDaddy offer showed $551.63 at renewal in January 2029, more than twice the initial three-year charge.
- List extras separately: domain renewal, SSL renewal, privacy services, backup packages, email after a promotional period and migration or restoration fees.
- Check whether Register.com’s monthly option bills every four weeks. A four-week cycle can produce more billing events in a calendar year than a simple 12-month assumption.
- Save the checkout terms and cancellation deadline. Both providers state that promotional prices, package details or rates can change.
Current equivalent Register.com and GoDaddy renewal totals were not established by the available evidence. Therefore, any article or salesperson claiming a universal “cheapest” winner without showing matching checkout totals is overstating what the published offers prove.
How do support and uptime claims compare?
Both companies advertise support and availability, but the claims have different wording and are not a controlled uptime test.
Register.com’s FAQ advertises free 24/7 technical support, and its newer overview mentions access to a technical adviser. The FAQ says 99.99% Unix uptime, while the overview says 99.9% hosting uptime. Treat these as page-specific claims; read the service-level terms for exclusions, credits and maintenance windows before interpreting either as a guarantee.
GoDaddy’s hosting page states “99.9% uptime — guaranteed” and directs readers to its terms. A guarantee generally defines eligible downtime, exclusions and the remedy, so it does not mean zero interruptions or a measured 99.9% result for your individual site. Keep your own monitoring if availability is business-critical.

For outside context, Tom’s Guide’s guide published August 6, 2026 placed GoDaddy ninth among the services it reviewed, praised domain-registration convenience and said it found better value elsewhere. That is one publisher’s evaluation, not a controlled head-to-head test against Register.com, so use it as context rather than a verdict.
When is shared hosting enough, and when should you consider VPS hosting?
Shared hosting is usually appropriate for a standard content-management site, portfolio or small business page that does not require operating-system control. Register.com’s FAQ explicitly frames Web Hosting as suitable for most users who want storage, bandwidth and email without system-administration skills.
Consider a VPS conversation when you need custom services, unusual software dependencies, root-level configuration, isolated resources or predictable performance under sustained load. A VPS also transfers more patching, hardening, monitoring and backup responsibility to you. Do not upgrade merely because “VPS” sounds faster; first identify the CPU, memory, process or database constraint affecting the current site.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which provider fits common 2026 scenarios?
Personal blog or résumé site
Start with the least expensive plan that includes HTTPS for the entire term, a domain you will keep and enough resources for your content-management system. GoDaddy Economy is easier to size from the published table; Register.com Starter may be adequate if its 15 GB and one mailbox meet your needs, but confirm that the checkout product is the Starter package rather than the differently labeled overview tier.
Freelancer managing client sites
Count domains and sites first. GoDaddy Deluxe’s published 10-site limit or Ultimate’s 25-site limit offers a clear ceiling, while Register.com Professional and Premium each list 10 sites on the comparison page. Compare mailbox counts, SSL coverage per site, user access and the resource limits that apply when several sites share one account.
Small online store or busy campaign site
Prioritize RAM, CPU, entry processes, database limits, backups and restore speed over headline storage. GoDaddy publishes those shared ceilings; ask Register.com for equivalent numbers. If traffic is expected to spike beyond shared limits, price a VPS or managed application platform before launch rather than discovering the limit during a campaign.

Register.com’s advertised 500 GB and unlimited options may reduce the need for a separate media store, but verify acceptable-use, inode and backup policies. GoDaddy’s 25–75 GB NVMe tiers are clearer but smaller, so calculate your current files plus a 12-month growth buffer.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
What should you verify at checkout before committing?
- The exact product name and page URL, especially for Register.com, where labels and quantities differ.
- Website, domain and mailbox counts, including whether parked or staging sites count.
- Storage type and limit, plus file-count, database and CPU/RAM/process ceilings.
- SSL coverage, first-term duration and renewal price for every domain.
- Backup frequency, retention, database coverage and restore procedure.
- Introductory charge, billing cycle, renewal amount, taxes and optional add-ons.
- Cancellation, refund and domain-transfer rules before you point DNS.
- Support channel, hours and any service-level credit conditions.
Take screenshots or download the order summary. Hosting pages can change after a promotion ends, and a saved term sheet is more useful than a remembered monthly number.
What is the final recommendation?
Pick GoDaddy for transparent tier progression and published cPanel resource ceilings when you are comparing one, 10 or 25 sites and need to budget CPU, RAM and concurrent requests. Pick Register.com when the selected package’s verified storage, email allowance, malware services or adviser support better match your site and the checkout clearly states what happens to SSL, backups and renewals.
Before paying, compare identical terms and the complete renewal total in the same country. The available evidence supports a workload-based decision, not a universal 2026 winner.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFrequently Asked Questions
Are Register.com’s 99.99% and 99.9% uptime figures guarantees?
They are different claims shown on different Register.com pages: the FAQ says 99.99% Unix uptime, while the newer overview says 99.9% hosting uptime. The pages do not establish an independently measured result, so read the applicable service terms and remedy before treating either number as a guarantee.
Why can a four-week hosting bill cost more than 12 monthly payments?
A four-week cycle contains 13 billing periods in some calendar years, unlike a calendar-month subscription. Register.com’s FAQ and package page specifically note four-week monthly billing, so compare the annual amount and billing dates rather than multiplying one displayed month by 12.
Can I move a site from Register.com to GoDaddy or the other way around?
A move normally involves copying files, exporting databases, recreating email accounts, lowering DNS time-to-live, testing on the new host and then changing DNS. Confirm backup access, database versions, mailbox migration options and domain-transfer locks with both providers before scheduling the switch.
What should I monitor after launching on shared hosting?
Track uptime from an external monitor, response time, error rates, database growth, disk usage and resource-limit warnings. A site can be online while repeatedly hitting CPU, memory or entry-process limits, so review the host’s usage dashboard and keep an independent backup.
