Razer’s Mako X is a compact 2.0 desktop speaker set designed for desks where a separate subwoofer is impractical. It has two 2.75-inch full-range drivers and built-in passive radiators, supports USB-C, Bluetooth 5.3, and 3.5 mm audio, and is reported at $99.99 in the US. Its 30W RMS maximum requires a separately purchased 45W-or-higher USB-C PD adapter; the speakers can also run from their primary USB-C connection at lower power.
What the Razer Mako X is—and what it is not
The Mako X is a two-speaker, 2.0-channel system. It has no separate subwoofer, making it a more straightforward fit for a compact desktop than a system that needs room for a third enclosure. Each speaker uses a custom-tuned 2.75-inch full-range driver, with built-in passive radiators intended to support bass from the compact cabinets.
Razer lists a frequency response reaching down to 60 Hz, up to 30W RMS, and 45W peak output. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent acoustic measurements or a guarantee of how much bass a particular room or listener will perceive. Razer says its output figures use a compatible USB-C power source. Razer’s September 22, 2026 announcement gives the specifications and introduces the Mako X alongside the larger Mako.
Power: the 30W rating requires an additional adapter
The main USB-C connection carries digital audio and power. Razer says it requires at least 15W and can supply up to 15W to the speakers. To reach the stated 30W RMS output, Razer specifies a 45W-or-higher USB-C Power Delivery 2.0-or-later adapter connected to the secondary USB-C PD port.

- For USB-C audio and basic power: connect the speakers through the primary USB-C port to a compatible source providing at least 15W.
- For up to 30W RMS: connect a 45W-or-higher USB-C PD 2.0-or-later adapter to the secondary port.
- Budget for the required accessories: Razer says the power adapter and secondary USB-C cable are not included.
That distinction matters when comparing the headline output rating with the out-of-box setup: the maximum rating is conditional on the separate power supply, while the primary connection is rated for up to 15W. See Razer’s Mako X product page and FAQ for its current power requirements.
Connections, surround sound, and lighting
Mako X offers three ways to connect: USB-C digital audio, Bluetooth 5.3, and a 3.5 mm analog input. The choice lets it serve as a wired desktop set or connect wirelessly to a compatible device. Razer also advertises virtual 7.1 surround, but that is a software feature rather than a hardware connection mode: its FAQ says it requires Razer software, product registration to obtain an activation code, and Windows 11 or higher.

The speakers have angled desktop enclosures and a 10-zone Chroma RGB underglow. Razer lists 16.8 million colors and game-sync lighting for more than 300 supported titles; that does not mean every game has lighting integration. The virtual surround and game-sync features have different requirements, so neither should be assumed to work identically across platforms or games.
Mako X vs. Razer Mako
The main choice is whether the desk can accommodate a separate subwoofer. The original Mako is a 2.1 system with a dedicated forward-firing 3.5-inch subwoofer; Mako X keeps the system to two speakers and uses passive radiators instead. Razer’s stated figures are useful for understanding the product designs, but they are not a hands-on sound-quality comparison.

The Mako’s separate subwoofer and lower stated response make it the more relevant option if a 2.1 layout is acceptable and bass extension is a priority. Mako X is the compact alternative. The specifications do not establish how either system sounds in a particular room, and there is no verified independent listening comparison here. The Mako X’s specifications are in Razer’s announcement; the reported prices are from TweakTown’s September 2026 coverage.
Price, availability, and warranty
TweakTown reported a US price of $99.99 for Mako X in September 2026. Razer’s US product page says direct sales began October 6, 2026, and identifies RazerStores and authorized retailers as purchase routes. The product-page text reviewed does not state a price, so check the seller for current pricing and stock.

Prices differ by region: ITmedia PC USER reported ¥18,280 including tax in Japan, with sales starting in October 2026. That Japanese figure is a regional reference, not a conversion or equivalent US price. Razer advertises up to two years of warranty coverage; the exact term depends on the applicable product and local terms. Razer also says direct RazerStore purchases have 14-day risk-free returns. Check the relevant regional page for the terms that apply to your purchase.

- It fits the use case if you want a two-speaker desktop setup and do not want to place a separate subwoofer under or beside the desk.
- Check the power setup if you expect to use the full 30W RMS rating: the specified adapter and secondary cable are sold separately.
- Check software compatibility if virtual 7.1 surround is important, because Razer limits that feature to Windows 11 or higher and requires software and registration.
- Consider the Mako instead if you have room for a dedicated subwoofer and prefer the 2.1 configuration; the published specifications alone do not prove a sound-quality advantage in real use.
For gaming, movies, music, or streaming, the Mako X’s USB-C, Bluetooth, and analog inputs cover common desktop and device connections. Whether its compact bass design suits your listening depends on your expectations; the 60 Hz specification is not an independent test of perceived bass performance.
