Short answer: the Radic8 Hextio HX-100 is a compact, directional air-cleaning device for a desk, bedside table or other personal breathing zone. Its 12–20 CFM airflow combines composite carbon/HEPA filtration with a 6 W UV-C reactor and titanium-dioxide (TiO2) elements. That makes it more specialized than a basic desktop filter, but it is not a substitute for a properly sized room purifier or HVAC filtration. What is the Radic8 Hextio HX-100?
Hextio is a freestanding personal air purifier designed to direct treated air toward the user’s breathing area. It can be worthwhile if you specifically want a small, directional device for a desk or bedside position and accept that its performance claims are largely manufacturer or distributor claims. It is a poor fit if your priority is independently verified room-scale clean-air delivery, a published long-term running cost, or regulatory validation for virus protection.

How does Hextio clean the air?
Air is drawn through the composite carbon and HEPA section, where particulate filtration and gas adsorption are intended to occur. The stream then passes through a UV-C reactor using a lamp specified at roughly 253.7–254 nm. Ten TiO2 hexagon elements are part of the treatment assembly, which Radic8 presents as a gas-neutralization and microorganism-control system.
The outlet is directional. That matters more than the small enclosure suggests: placing the hood so its treated stream reaches your face or upper body is central to the product’s personal-use design. Turning it toward a wall, hiding it behind a monitor or placing it under a desk can reduce the practical benefit even if the fan continues to run.

How much room can Hextio cover?
The product is labeled for “Personal” coverage. A Henry Schein product sheet gives a conditional estimate of up to 215 square feet with an 8-foot ceiling. That number is a stated product assumption, not an independently verified room-performance result, so it should not be read as a guaranteed equivalent of a full-size purifier’s clean-air delivery.
Use the coverage estimate correctly
- For a desk or bedside table, aim the outlet toward the breathing zone and keep the intake unobstructed.
- In a small office, position Hextio close to the occupant rather than at the far end of the room.
- In a 215-square-foot room or larger, treat the figure as an upper-bound marketing condition and use a room-rated purifier or HVAC filtration for general background cleaning.
- Do not add multiple room-volume claims together; the published material does not establish a room air-change rate for Hextio.
Is Hextio quiet enough for a bedroom or desk?
Radic8 and distributor material publish a 40–49 dB sound range and describe a sleep mode. That is consistent with relatively low-power personal use, but no independent sound measurement was conducted for this review. Perceived loudness will depend on fan setting, distance, room acoustics and whether the unit is placed on a resonant surface.

For a bedside setup, place it on a stable table rather than directly against a wall or headboard, and use sleep mode if the control system permits it. For a desk, position the outlet so it does not blow papers or create an irritating stream across your hands. If the sound rises over time, inspect the intake and filter for dust before assuming the motor has failed.
Does Hextio really kill viruses?
Henry Schein product information states that VIRUSKILLER technology has a “99.9999% kill rate–in a single pass” against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 or harder to kill, including Coronavirus DF2, adenovirus, influenza virus and poliovirus. The same document explicitly says the product has not been tested on SARS-CoV-2 and is not FDA cleared or approved.
Those qualifications change how the number should be interpreted. A single-pass result describes air exposed to the treatment system under the test conditions used for the named organisms; it does not describe the percentage of viruses removed from an occupied room, the protection provided to a particular person, or a reduction in infection risk. Airflow rate, source strength, room mixing, filter loading and placement all affect real-world exposure.
Use the claim as evidence of the manufacturer’s intended technology, not as a substitute for ventilation, masking when appropriate, vaccination, isolation of infectious people or public-health guidance. The user-guide material likewise states that the VIRUSKILLER range is not FDA-cleared or FDA-approved.
Does Hextio produce ozone?
Distributor and manual materials describe the technology as ozone-free or as creating zero ozone. That is a manufacturer or distributor claim; the reviewed material does not provide a current independent quantitative emissions report. If ozone sensitivity is a deciding factor, ask the seller for the exact emissions documentation for your revision and keep the return terms available.
Regardless of the ozone description, follow the safety instructions: use only the supplied or specified power supply, keep liquids away, do not open the enclosure, and have service performed by an approved distributor or technician. UV-C radiation is intended to remain inside the reactor; unauthorized disassembly can defeat that protection.

How do you set up Hextio safely?
- Confirm the model and adapter. Check the rating label for 12 V DC input and confirm that the included adapter matches the local mains supply. Newer documentation specifies a universal 100–240 V adapter, but do not assume every revision includes the same accessory.
- Choose a stable location. Use a level desk, counter or bedside table with space around the intake and outlet. Keep the appliance away from sinks, drinks, humidifiers and direct splashes.
- Aim the outlet. Point the directional airflow toward the intended breathing zone without blocking the hood or pressing it against a wall.
- Start at a comfortable setting. Use the lower or sleep setting when noise is more important; increase airflow when the room is occupied or when faster local turnover is more useful.
- Check for unobstructed operation. After startup, listen for rubbing or rattling and verify that air is moving. A sudden change in noise or airflow warrants an intake and filter inspection.
- Record the running hours. A simple calendar or smart-plug log makes the 4,000-hour filter and 8,000-hour reactor schedules easier to manage.
How often do Hextio filters and reactor parts need replacing?
The published service intervals are approximately 4,000 operating hours for the composite carbon/HEPA filter and 8,000 hours for the reactor cell. At continuous operation, those figures correspond to roughly 5.5 months and 11 months respectively. At eight hours per day, they work out to about 16.5 months and 33 months; actual replacement may be earlier in dusty or smoky environments.
The manual directs owners to distributors for replacement filters or reactor chambers. Current prices and exact part numbers were not established, so the total cost of ownership cannot be calculated reliably from the published information. Confirm stock, shipping time, return eligibility and whether a technician is required before committing to the device.
Signs to inspect the filter sooner
- Airflow is noticeably weaker at the same setting.
- The fan becomes louder or develops a whine after the unit has accumulated dust.
- Visible dust coats the intake or the filter surface.
- Odors return despite normal operation, suggesting the carbon media is saturated.
Do not wash the composite filter unless the manufacturer specifically approves it. Moisture can damage the media and create an electrical or microbial hazard.
What does Hextio cost to own?
The unit’s maximum draw is 15 W, so its electricity use is modest compared with high-power appliances. Electricity cost still depends on your tariff and runtime, while the larger unknown is consumables: the filter and reactor have finite lives, but current prices and part numbers are not established in the available product material.
When requesting a quote, ask for the complete first-year cost rather than only the appliance price. Include the replacement filter, reactor chamber, shipping, taxes, service labor if applicable and the length and geographic coverage of the warranty.
How does Hextio compare with a conventional room purifier?
The meaningful comparison is not the number of technologies listed on the box. Compare how much treated air reaches the room, what evidence supports the claim, and what it costs to keep the device operating.

A conventional room purifier with a published clean-air delivery rate is usually easier to size for a whole room. Hextio’s advantage is placement: it can put a treatment stream close to one person while consuming little power and desk space.

Choose a different solution if you need documented room air changes, independently tested SARS-CoV-2 performance, a current emissions certification, or predictable filter pricing. What are the common problems and fixes?
Airflow feels weak
Check that the intake is not against a wall, under a monitor or covered by dust. If repositioning does not restore flow, the composite filter may be loaded and should be replaced according to the distributor’s procedure.
The unit is noisier than expected
Move it off a hollow or resonant surface, inspect the intake for debris and compare the sound at the same fan setting. Persistent rubbing, grinding or electrical noise is a service issue; do not open the enclosure.

There is a persistent odor
Confirm that the carbon section is within its service life and that nearby sources—cleaning products, smoke or cooking—are not overwhelming the small airflow. Replace the filter through an approved distributor if the odor remains.

The device will not start
Verify the adapter connection, outlet and 12 V rating. Stop using the device if the adapter becomes hot, damaged or wet, and obtain a replacement through an approved service channel rather than substituting an unverified supply.
Final verdict: a niche personal purifier, not a room-wide virus shield
Radic8 Hextio HX-100 makes the most sense as a directed, low-power breathing-zone appliance. Its UV-C and filtration stack may appeal to users who want more than a basic desktop fan-filter, but the evidence does not justify treating its 99.9999% figure as proof of SARS-CoV-2 protection or whole-room sterilization. Buy it only when the personal-use form factor fits your situation and the seller can document replacement parts, service and the exact model revision.
